People have a bad conception of "selfishness". They think that doing something good for yourself is bad for others, that's not true. There are no conflicts of interest. Or they confuse it with someone acting for short-term gain and suggest that's selfish when it hurts others. But being impulsive is not actually good for you, so you obviously don't actually care about yourself much if you do it. So how can it be selfish? It's selfless to do that because you're not considering your own well-being. So really all selfishness means is that you're doing something for yourself. Making music for yourself, according to your own values is selfish. It also shows integrity. The two are not at odds with each other. Selfishness is a virtue.
