Hi everyone! Something a little different for you today. I hope you enjoy it! Just something to keep in mind: I filmed this on a warm day with both my regular podcast camera and my iPhone. The AC is running every so often which explains the occasional hum you may hear. Also, the audio on my iPhone isn't the greatest. This was spontaneous and actually quite enjoyable for me so I'll take the good with the...slightly subpar. 😉Enjoy! PS: I'll be having my de-stash on Saturday, July 1st at 8 AM PDT. www.woolneedleshands.com/taylersdestash
I love your room/crafting space! You must get those comments all the time. It’s so inviting and beautiful. I dream of having my own creative space like that one day.
Gotta give your husband props for that amazing gift!!! I absolutely love that he did the traditional gift but kept your personality in mind. SO SWEET!! ALSO! Love that you're donating yarn to your local library - I host a knitting/crochet program at the library where I work and I know I would be thrilled to get your donations, I'm sure your local library will, too.
Thank you! He’s a keeper, this man of mine. 🥰 And I’m always happy to donate yarn to the library or anywhere that has knitting classes. I think that’s so cool that you host a program like that at your library. We need more of that in places outside of yarn and craft stores. ❤️
I was working on a sweater and sadly ran out of yarn and it is a discontinued yarn. I searched high and low. I was delighted to locate a sweet woman on Ravelry who had a skein to spare. She sent it to me and I finished the sweater. Because she is in Minnesota and I am in coastal NC, I felt she was the perfect recipient for the bundle of bulky and super bulky yarn in my stash. I sent that as a thank you. Why oh why, did I buy bulky yarn? I am streamlining my stash to hold primarily plant based yarns because we have far more warm weather than winter.
Awesome!!!! Don’t EVER let that Fishermen’s wool in natural go because I have been trying to get some and just when I think I will I get an email stating that they are once again out of it! 🙄😂😂😂
I recently discovered your channel and have been binge watching while trying to finish some socks for Christmas. May I say that I love, love, love your space? I am dreaming of having a space to myself and yours looks cozy, inspiring, artistic, and just wonderful. I also really like the color grading of your videos. Together with your content, you have quickly become one of my favorite channels. Thank you!
It was fun to watch someone else de-stash 😄😄. I recently did my own de-stash and donated it to a local non profit thrift store for all types of crafts. The only problem is when I go to donate items, I end up buying other crafty items 😳🤔🤔🧶👍
And I am the one everybody's decluttered yarn end up with. I receive yarn, fabric, patterns, tools, books. And I do my best to not add anything except to finish it off. 😂
Lol! Every time anyone acts like their phone is lower quality footage all i can think is "oh gawd no worries hun, i remember when UA-cam was all bootlegs and web cam recordings. You are so so good." Lmao 😂
It's so funny this came up today. I ran into a friend at a big box store--she's a crotcher and isn't working right now. I have a bunch of yarn I'm gonna give her.
Thanks, Taylor. I enjoyed watching you get organized. I unburied my quilting frame and got quilt top loaded. I started quilting it today. It is a scrappy quilt. I'm practicing free motion quilting with lots of different quilting motifs. I'm just having fun with it, whatever pops into my head.😂❤Getting it done. Part of my Swedish "death" clean, so my kids won't have to deal with it when I'm gone. 😅
Tayler, you have inspired me to throw away garments that i had started (and did not enjoy the yarn) that have in no way brought me joy, yarn that I’ll never use, and tools that just hurt my hands. Yay me! 🥰 I loved this video!
I have wool I bought in 1999, when I went on my Honeymoon to Ireland, I have made two sweaters from it and I have a ton more of it. I become attached to my stash, but I am sure it could be better organized.
I love the colors you used on the hibernation shawl and how you coordinated the colors. Nice southwest-y color combo. Great idea on binding it off and making it into a bandana. The colors suit you. Your written comments at unexpected times made me have to "rewind" and read your comments and laugh about it because it would be close to what I was thinking if I was doing this kind of destash/decluttering.
Hey Taylor! Happy anniversary girl !! Your hubs did a great job on the gift. I so need to do clean up my yarn stash hoping this inspires me to tackle it.
I live pretty close to Green Mountain Spinnery. I think this is the first time I’ve seen a Vermont brand on a major UA-cam channel. It got me all excited hehe
I don’t like scrappy projects much either. What I usually do is to weigh my leftovers and then put the remainder amount into Ravelry, which then translates into yardage or meters and then look up patterns that will fit that leftover amount. Don’t know if this is helpful but just another idea. The other thing I will do often is to try and use up the yarn from the current project as soon as it’s done. That way I don’t have any leftovers. Right now, I am working on a pair of mitts from leftover yarn. That yarn was first a pair of socks and then a cowl and now finally, the mitts. I sure got a lot of use out of that skein!
Thank you for the look at your stash. I always find it interesting to see others' stash and how they organize it. I have to say as fun as the yarn was I was drawn to your needle organizer. That was a cool idea, and I have to say I plan on giving it a try.
Wow Taylor!! Good for you for going through your yarn stash! I seriously need to do the same thing! I also need to go through my huge fabric stash as well! I'm currently working on my cotton dishcloth yarn in hopes of knitting at least half of it up!
I'm glad you chose to keep the shawl WIP and turn it into a bandana/scarf. It looks great! 👍🏾👏🏾It will be just the thing in the Fall to spruce up your look (especially if or when a jacket is necessary).
The little blue bamboo balls would be good for a summer weight bandana. Like the Purl Soho pattern in the rustic silk, or maybe one of those tiny neck scarves or bandana from Petite Knits. So pretty and cute! Keep it!
Eek. I SO need to do this! Primarily because I haven't moved in 22 years, and did have the space for it, so just keep adding to the stash LOL.Thanks for the inspiration!
I organized my yarn at the end of last year because I am working thru it all this year. I am being cut-throat and I have no qualms about letting something go. I also went thru my knitting and crochet supplies and found a lot of needles/hooks; I wouldn’t mind recouping some of the cost, but have thus far been unsuccessful…alas, tis better to have less clutter than to hold onto the things hoping I get some of the cost back. All that rambling to say…my goal is to have no stash (like when I first started knitting) so I can buy yarn for the next project and immediately cast it on. Happy belated Anniversary! Dye up some aubergine to go with the mohair and knit an anniversary sweater!
It's getting hot here in Kansas, nearing 100 f. My knitting was kaput, until I looked at my stash. Thanks to your Ravelry tutorial, I fiund a free sweater, grabbed a big skein of yarn and got knittiing. Now Im looking at my bookshelf of yarn and thinking of decluttering all the random balls of yarn for donation. 😊
I just did a major destash of yarn, fiber, material and cross stitch. It was donated to a charity that helps with hospice. It feels great to free up space and give things a a good cause. I love your craft room!
Love scraps and the challenge...your shoe mojo will come back...and do hang on to them...and the soft green bamboo would be gorgeous with ivory or browns 😍
What a good exercise! Maybe you could put a dollar value on the yarns you are de-stashing so that you can use it as a tool to curb any future impulse buys? This works very well for me! The blue yarn for your husband’s sweater could be held double so that you can still use it if you wish. Great exercise and I bet you feel a lot lighter now you have all that ”stuff” out of your head!
I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I am moving soon and absolutely dreading having to de-clutter all my yarn.. Watching this is giving me motivation!
Love the work you have done here. I did something similar a little while back. Even went so far to load the stash into Stash on Ravit so I could pattern match. Love the look of the WNH destash. Some beautiful yarns there. ❤❤
Super inspiring! I’ve decided summer months with super hot weather is declutter time for me. It’s too hot to really enjoy outside in the Deep South right now. Thanks for helping with the declutter mojo. Can wait to check out the de-stash! ❤
I love the idea of going through my stash and see what hidden gems I can find in there 😂 I’m also not much into the scrappy aesthetic but I do like opening little packages so I’m thinking to create my own advent calendar with scarps and opening one each day in December and make a blanket out of them 😅
I did this recently and pattern matched yarn bundles. I purchased two gallon ziplock bags and married the yarn in labeled bundles. Then all the bags went in a plastic bin labeled projects. I can stay busy for a year or more. But my local yarn shop is so wonderful….I still buy yarn. Habits are hard to break.
I'm halfway through the video and I love the completely unorganized, hectic energy. I feel like I look exactly the same when I try to organize my yarn!!!
You’ve inspired to get my stash in order! I’m not a scrappy gal either but I keep them because I feel bad. I’m going to find the scraps a new home, thank you!
Destashed a few weeks ago. Gave my extras to the kids in the crochet class i was teaching. I think i will start a bin of scraps for the fall class - would make great motifs or appliques. Especially with lots of different colours. Edit - btw, your background music has some serious Twin Peaks vibes!😊
I love that you found good use for the extras. Very cool. And I’m also loving that you felt Twin Peaks vibes with the music. My David Lynch-loving self is pleased. ☺️
oooh. thank you for your stash tour. I feel like I need to do this. however my stash is much, much larger than yours so it might have to be done in parts. haha
You inspired me to do this while I’m on summer break from school, so thank you!! Sewing FYI to share - when you do start to sew, find the McCall Learn-to-Sew patterns!! They will go step by step with you to make the process more beginner friendly. 🥰
Make a weekender with the lucky. That’s what I used (red) and I was inspired by a lys during a yarn crawl. I absolutely love it. I made the size 3 and used 5 skeins.
Inspiring. I feel now that after I finish a project, I don’t necessarily have to keep the leftovers to weigh on me. It’s a scrap down year so that’s great. I’ll make one scrappy project and the. Donate the yarn for its third incarnation thanks
I love the built-in cabinet you keep your stash in! Is it something you made or did it come with your house? It's really a cool way to display and organize everything :)
I redid a de-stash and it felt good to get it out of my yarn cabinet. However I am still driving all the bags of yarn around because it is all still in my trunk! Donating it to a local senior center and need to coordinate this with my sister in law. What I have left in my cabinet has pattern matches(ish) 😂
Pattern matches(ish) is perfect. And I chuckle because I know what it’s like to have it in your car as you get it to where it’s going. You’re like yarn Santa 🤶. ❤️
This is in my to do list. I need to do some yarn organizing. My target month is around Fall Season. Crossing fingers I get it done before the end of this year. 😊
Doing the same thing, have bundled up yarns for projects, for me and😊 for my students and for friends, just not with pattern match...GASP...keep your sewing things, the changes are minimal in patterns to make them in "style" and sewing is fast...compared to needle/hook..and just do it..you'll love it...
I’m going to do this with my Friday night this week! Might sound boring but I’m excited. I need to have better intentions for my yarn 🤫 someone will benefit from my lack of follow through.
I think that Green mnt spinery yarn would make a beautiful long cardigan ❤ your yarn shelf is about the same size as my setup, I’m trying to get my stash to all fit within it 😂
I'm wondering how many people bought one of those neck lights a couple years ago, when they were The Current Thing That All Knitters Must Have, and now not only never use it but can't even remember where they put it. I'll start: me. I'm one of those people.
I dont necessarily want to destash but i definitely desperately want to organize. Unfortunately right now i dont have space to keep my yarn accessible. Its packed away in totes that are hard to get out and riffle thru. I really like to let the yarn inspire the project but with it all constantly out of reach i sometimes buy more to make something specific because i just cant get to the things i have. It makes me sad. I wish i could narrow things down sometimes but i always end up making different kinds of projects in every weight both knit and crochet so my stash is kind of large and random. And sometimes i start to feel guilty with all these videos about destashing, unburdening , simplifying, organizing, mindful making and buying, and only buying supplies for one project at a time. No one makes videos on yarn collecting or unapologeticly currating a large unorganized stash lol
I find that's one of the perks of making Amigurumi (I crochet). But for some projects, you only need the smallest amount of yarn, and you're good to go for many more projects! Or there is the occasional game of yarn chicken, which is always fun.
Personally I like the use what I can of my scrap yarn for amigurmi just because it generally doesn’t take up much yarn but I like the concept of donating yarn you know you aren’t going to use. If I could create a charity thing related to yarn I would love to do a pay it forward where you could donate the materials to craft or help teach others how to make stuff sprinkled with doing group projects to donate to other charities like hats blankets and scarves to the homeless or something like that

Hi, Just wondering if the destash is July 1 or July 5? I see both dates posted.
@@truffles12506 Hi! I moved it to July 5th at 8 AM PDT. ❤️
I recently destashed and donated a TON of yarn to my friend’s 96 yo mom who crochets hats for charity. Win-win! 😊
I love that your hubby bought you some yarn for your anniversary. He's a keeper :)
I love your room/crafting space! You must get those comments all the time. It’s so inviting and beautiful. I dream of having my own creative space like that one day.
"I love an empty basket, it's just potential for..." and then the text on screen. I literally laughed out loud. LOVE your videos.

I just discovered Laerke Bagger when I checked out her new book from my local library. Do you know her work? She does amazing things with scrap yarn!
I love her work. So I never destash. I just knit more scrapyarn sweaters 😅
I’ll definitely look into that! Thank you for the recommendation. ❤️❤️

KnitDallas is my local yarn shop, isn’t it the greatest? Meredith (the owner) hosts us on Wednesdays and Sundays, sweet group of yarn lovers 🖤
It is truly a treasure! Such a gorgeous shop. ❤️
I love your yarn stash shelf!! Was it purchased or did you make it??
Personally I like the use what I can of my scrap yarn for amigurmi just because it generally doesn’t take up much yarn but I like the concept of donating yarn you know you aren’t going to use. If I could create a charity thing related to yarn I would love to do a pay it forward where you could donate the materials to craft or help teach others how to make stuff sprinkled with doing group projects to donate to other charities like hats blankets and scarves to the homeless or something like that
Some yarn can be kept in a “pile of ambiguity” you like it sort of and aren’t ready to get rid of it.
I love the “pile of ambiguity”. 😎😎❤️❤️
When my yarn mojo peters out, I return to cross stitch-another ridiculous stash..
He's a keeper!
Oh my God your rug is só beautifull I need one for my house😅
Great job!
Thank you!
Throw those scraps on the Sentro :D
Make a headband to match the frankensweater and if you made a huge investment on the plum color...make something else, for you or someone else
