- Are Metallica untrained metalheads who just got lucky goofing around with music....or do they actually understand songwriting and music theory? In this video I'll answer that question by analyzing "For Whom The Bell Tolls", from Ride The Lighting

The one thing that metallica definetly doesn't suck at is songwriting. James Hetfield definetly knows how to write catchy melodies while still sounding "aggresive". So i don't know who said that.
It’s just his form of clickbait
James is THE songwriter. Man's blessed with some songwriting abilities
4:20 lol
(awesome video as always, love your analysis and how you talk about scales)
i love these videos, it actually helps with learning Music theory ! i'd be curious to watch you breakdown and analyze more "complex" metal such as Shadow Of Intent,Wintersun or the popular Lorna Shore
Great video as always ! learned a ton ! 😁
Was never the same after Cliff passed
get over it Karen
@@JacksonCharvelRULE go back to yer kids-bop, tourist.
That’s Understandable, but we must keep moving on.
Get over it
@@bern475 go self-pleasure over kids bop, knuckledrager
love ya papa shred
I noticed that if you listen to Hell's Bells, you can have the riff from For Whom the Bell Tolls going right along with it.🎸
How is this even a question when they're literally the most successful and well known metal band in the world? 😂
yeah having Cliff there who knew music theory and arrangement didnt hurt
I've got another question Uncle Shred, if Cliff was alive today what kind of direction would Metallica have taken after Master Of Puppets?
Please sir analys the song where gods creation ends by lost dreams (it's available in UA-cam)
Bring back Jason!!!
Yes
Its a album with cliff so its not too far fetched to say that he likely helped alot with this song. After his unfortunate passing they've went pretty down hill tbh. Comfort and greed don't go together and create amazing music lol
Used to perform this song with my band just like a slow opening headbanging song 😂😂😂 it's pretty good even if it feels not too complex.
I believe that Metallica had a different way to perceive reality on those times, and now they are not exposed to the same things, that's the reason for the change
man who gives a shit as long as we headbang thats all matter😂
? How did you break your nose?
Shr🎸d, have you heard Sabaton's cover of 🔔z? If not, check it out🤘🤘 "YEAH❗️"
Dude bro can you talk about anyone other than Metallica or megadeth? If so, please do. Thx.
Songwriting I don't have a problem with but their music is what bothers me especially the new stuff ever since the black album everything else before that is awesome
I maybe thought he would talk about 72 seasons or something, I find that album pretty boring song-writing-wise.
With Cliff gone? F yes.
Facts 🏆
Absolutely not 😂
Metallica have always written better songs, and sonically, they sound better. Their live shows are great, crowd participation is spot-on, and they've broken out of the "thrash bubble" to become one of the biggest bands in music. Overkill, Exodus, Testament, Death Angel are still stuck in the thrash scene. They only play large outdoor venues at festivals and as openers.
Megadeth write busy riffs and complex twists and turns to compensate for the weak vocals and because Dave wants to prove he's better than Metallica . Their live crowds don't have as much energy and very little participation - Buenos Aires being the only exception.
Slayer write to be fast and heavy but the songs sound the same and the bass never gets enough of a presence in the mix.
Only Anthrax sort of match Metallica with their songwriting and live sound, but they don't sell as much tickets.
Metallica excells at song writing
Metallica are the best band ever in existence
Sorry, cant like this video. It's on 69 and I can't bring myself to do it.
Metallica is random hyped . Like ozzy osbourne etc.
No good voices...
There are so much really better little Bands they kick your fucking ass.
666 Times 😊
But Kill EM all, ride the lightning are Albums i love.
There is great reason why Metallica is considered the best. I’ve listened to hundreds of metal bands and have yet to find a band that made better compositions; that’s especially true of the thrash genre.
Τους Μετάλικα δε θα τους ξαναπιάσεις στο στόμα σου😡…😊😊
They do suk
Metallica's Best song 🤘🤘🔔
So sick of Metallica.... Their early years were good but then they figured they ride on the coattails of Cliff and not let Jason shine as a Bass player nor their current bassist. They are the Justin Bieber of metal and corporate rock.
Give me a thrash album that isn’t by Megadeth or Slayer that is as good or even better than Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets. Call them whatever you want, but Metallica are the best to ever do it. Their thrash compositions are powerful enough to get non-metal fans into metal.
@@Goofballhero like I said corporate rock... Justin Bieber of metal. I'll take Testament and Annihilator, Anthrax, Megadeth, or Exodus. Screw Metallica... You a Swifty too??
@@trance9158 Nope, not sure what Taylor Swift has to do with metal but you 100% sound exceedingly over the age of 50. I’m a MAJOR fan of Testament, but not even The New Order or The Legacy are as good as RtL or MoP. That’s just being honest; Metallica angers a lot of metal fans because they are extremely against anything that is popular, as metal fans are often hipsters by nature.
@@Goofballhero hipsters huh... That's a new one for metalheads. Ironic you can only refer to the original Cliff era material... Like I said they're milking his tragedy. As a Bass player since the early 80s I find everything after Cliff era as weak and drowned out and limited the bass material and players. Guess they were afraid of backlash.... SMH
