That’s AWESOME that you figured that out!!! Every disabled person has the right to their adulthood and often times that is taken from us. Thank you for acknowledging our adulthood.
I agree. I was a caregiver for disabled adults for about 12 years and always spoke to them the same way I would speak to my friends and family and colleagues. It would bother me when other caregivers would use baby talk with them. I know their intentions were good but it felt disrespectful to me.
I have been a pca to many people with a variety of disorders and diagnoses.... i dont baby talk but i do choose to keep things on a simple basis especially if neurologically they are a great deal younger then their physical age.
I do appreciate it most times but when I open up to people more I do tend to act very childish (I’ve grown up way too fast and I want to be a little kid again)
The youngest sister is so adorable, she’s the most attentive with Ezri and seems to have kind of a special relationship with him. What a blessing for the parents to have gotten a daughter like her

Honestly it sounded like the dad misunderstood Chris' question, which was how it feels for you as his parent the times when you cannot recognize Ezri's words? Maybe the dad is used to getting a question about how does Ezri feel when he cant communicate, and thats the answer he uses to challenge people to relate to Ezri, which is really cool.
Aw, Ezri looks like he's having a really good time. He definitely has a very, very good sense of what is going on around him -- and he was lovely, supportive sisters. What a wonderful and beautiful family.

3:50 I'm fascinated by how well the youngest sister knows how to ask him a this/that question. I get the vibe from this that she has her own distinct way of understanding and interacting with him because she's further in age from him than the other two younger sisters are. She's never known anything other than a much older disabled sibling. As an age gap older sibling, I really do believe that siblings who are further apart in age have a much different relationship than siblings who are closer in age.

My heart goes out to Ezri's mom because of the pediatrician dismissing the concerns about Ezra. Valuable time was lost. That part is so heartbreaking. I have had problems with not being taken seriously by doctors as well, and receiving incorrect diagnoses leading to inappropriate treatments and medications which further increased the severity of my problems rather than improving my condition. It is lovely to see Ezri with his sisters and to hear his father speak about Ezrais affinitty for Jewish religeous services. Yom Kippur is challenging for anyone to sit for 6 hours. Even if you go with the simplistic notion that God is love, it's easy to see Ezri's connection to love in his family and so spiritually encouraging to hear that he recognizes that love in the practices of Judaism.
i was ignored for a while about my concerns about having adhd, which resulted in me not getting diagnosed til i was 16, and then being diagnosed with high functioning autism this year (19). explained a lot.
He’s definitely a very special young man, and I imagine he finds the services soothing in their ceremony and the calm and predictable way the messages are conveyed. His behavior is a reminder to never pigeonhole anyone, they may just end up surprising you.
This one made my heart happy. I’m not a religious person, but for whatever reason the spirituality of this family hits home for me. This family is so incredibly full of love for each other. It doesn’t feel forced. It’s genuine love and care for each other.

I've seen this thread throughout several of the videos on this channel where a sister, generally an older sister, already knows without a doubt that her disabled sibling is going to be part of her household as an adult. I'm so moved by the sentiment and certainty they possess, and of course, the love, adoration, and care they bestow on their sibling.

Every time I have a fight with my boyfriend my older sister will tell me "Sis. The doors always open. Forever. No matter what. Amd no matter how long. I'd love you to be here" My sister is the best sister in the history of sisters.
Yes! I have 2 autistic sons and my 4 other children know that when their dad and I for whatever reason can’t take care of them anymore, they will most definitely welcome them into them into their homes. We don’t know who is going to take who yet because they are all still young but they know what to do when it’s time!
The one sister that speaks to Ezri like the adult he is, is a smart young lady. It is respectful to Ezri and will likely help with his communication skills and behaviors as well. Great job! Wonderful family with wonderful faith.
I love the discussions on the intersection of Judaism and disability. It’s wonderful to see how different religions and cultures embrace disability. Seeing disability so engrained in deep spiritual belief is really encouraging to see
I like how he gets excited being bossy, not because someone does what he says but because they listened and understood, especially with a stranger. He's definitely blessed to have such a loving family, and I'd say the way they feel, they're blessed to have him.
as a speech-language pathologist, I can't help but think that Ezri would really benefit from AAC, whether it be a pointing system or an electronic device. I really wonder how much he'd be able to express!
My daughter has an aac and I was thinking the same thing. It would open a whole new world for him especially since he wants to communicate so much and really intentionally just doesn't have the motor skills to speak the words.
I have an aunt with severe autism. My gran (her carer) sadly died from cancer when my aunt was in her 40's. Before my gran died, my other aunt offered to become her carer. Both my aunts are in their 70s now, and still coping very well together. It's so nice to hear this sister offering to take her brother in
That was fortunate. I always wonder what will become of the profoundly non-functional when a family isn't around. I don't know how it is in the UK but other than psychiatric facilities, I don't know what kinds of fulltime care facilities exist here. Not that many I don't think.
First of all, this family has huge respect from me. I work as a special instructor for infants and toddlers and see children when they are first diagnosed when possible. I can't help but be angry at the pediatricians that didn't put a newborn into the hospital within the first 24 hours after seeing Ezri. He could have been medically supported sooner and possibly less brain damage could have occurred. Outrageous!! Secondly, Ezri and his siblings were a joy to behold. Many siblings feel put upon for helping out and these 5 sisters showed such an outpouring of love and respect for him. Kol Hakavod!! Thirdly, thank you Chris for showing religious Jews in such a good light. My heart was truly full to see my fellow brothers and sisters shine brightly. Finally, May HaShem bless this family with much Yiddishe nachas from all of their children. The story of Ezri and davening actually brought tears to my eyes. May Moshiach come quickly!!
Seeing a disabled person and a Jewish family is so lovely to me. I am personally Jewish, raised that way and practicing now, and seeing this family and their love for their son and brother as well as their love for their religion is lovely to me. This was a heartwarming interview and I adore Ezri. They all seem so lovely to be around. Judaism is a loving and caring religion and seeing it being practiced in this way makes my heart warm with the love of my community and my religion.

The Dad's (I'm sorry, I never caught his name) body language indicates to me that he has a really good sense of humor and they are all so charismatic, especially Ezri.

I'm mad that the nurse/doctor didn't take the mom seriously when she called about Ezri not being nursed. I'm surprised they didn't even get alarmed when she said there's blood in his diapers!
A lot of medical professionals are like that. Some of them are way too proud of their knowledge and in bad way wherein they don't listen properly, disregard patients experience, misdiagnose and do not take them seriously. Not all obviously but it's like a pattern that exists in many of them.
Ezri has a VERY infectious smile... I found myself unconsciously smiling whenever he did. Thank you to the whole family for letting us into your home and hearts to share in this happiness. :)
Ezri is a gift from God !! I was born a-ok. I was in a coma one week later. I had Encephalitis. the sleeping sickness. That was 69 years ago. There i.s alot that flies overl my head. I cannot understand many things but Bless his heart ❤. EZRI HAS BEAUTIFUL EYES!!!
Ezri is wonderful. Reminds me of our Noah who lived 32 years on this earth. I was so blessed to have been his Momma. His brothers and sisters were like Ezri's sisters. Very close to their brother. When she talked about memorizing his favorite book..we did that too!😄 Such a wonderful family for Ezri❤ He is well loved.

Whoa, this video was like looking in a black mirror episode with my family 🤯 it was kinda hard to relate with other children growing up because it was hard to explain that your sibling needed more attention and your family life had to adjust outside of the norm to raise them. Religion played a huge part too. We Unfortunately got kicked out of a church or two because my brother was having a tantrum or sensoryoverload but we eventually found a church with server members who were absolute angels. God bless this family and your channel for sharing their story ❤️
I worked with special needs in a church. It didn't take me long to realize, when our Sunday school class was a closet of broken and discarded desks, that the church's goal was not to teach them...but to hide them from mainstream. I went to the copastor and told him it was a disgrace, and they were just as worthy of a regular classroom as everyone else. When I mentioned my suspicions, "So, you don't care what I teach them, you just want me to hide them", his response was, "Basically?...Yes!" They were the only reason I didn't leave that church, then and there. I'm so glad you found a loving church who accepts him as a member of the human race. ❤️ We need more churches who are loving and accepting instead of comparing and judging.

there's a list somewhere of all the resources girls trying to get an autism diagnosis should use, good luck nora, it may take a while. you actually may find out you don't have ocd and you were just thrown a diagnosis because of the lack of information on autism in girls... though maybe not, who knows

It must be such a joy to Ezri to know he can go to any synagogue and know what he and everyone around him is going to do. He is sharing and communicating with LOTS of people at one time - and for a really extended time for some services!
When my son was little he had delays due to being a preemie and issues at birth. He would get so frustrated when we couldn't figure out what he wanted. It was so heartbreaking as a parent to not know what I needed to do to keep my baby content. He caught up as he got older, thankfully. I can't imagine the lifelong struggle for Ezri. I am glad he has a great support system.
I LOVE this beautiful family! I worked with people with developmental disabilities for over 40 years. I have seen every type of family from those who can't accept or cope with the disability, to families that love and support. I agree with the dad when he says, I believe he sees angels. I believe they do too, and spending 40 years in this work, I have seen it over and over again. God-bless you! You are a wonderful family!❤
He has such beautiful happy blue eyes! Love the relationship his sisters have with him. His oldest sister said she was his primary care giver but I think she means his protector because she was 4 when he was born & able to form that bond they needed. His parents cracked me up when his dad felt the need to clarify when he drinks... I don't think any of us thought his mom was referring to alcohol. Love this family & knowing that he'll forever have someone to love & take care of him if anything were to happen to his parents. I'm not Jewish, I'm Wiccan; I love how spiritual this young man is & how he is calmed in any synagogue by angels he may see or even by God. No matter the difference in our spiritual beliefs I pray that he & his family always be blessed by both their God & my Goddess. Blessed be beautiful souls

I kinda love that she used the word trapped. My boyfriends son is 6, and can't walk or talk, and I always explain his behavioral issues come from the fact that he feels trapped. He can't express himself and that's frustrating. So when he swings, it's not that he wants to hurt someone, he just wants to get his point across, and his siblings ignore him so much sometimes, that he resorts to hitting to get attention, even if it's negative. I just hope the other kids grow up and can be more apart of helping him, because a lot of the time, he gets frustrated because he just wants to do what his siblings are doing. These videos really have helped me become a better parent to my two special needs kids, and I can't thank you enough for giving these people a voice.
Lmao I love the youngest, she's so funny. She reminds me of me. I also try not to give in and let my youngest get whatever he wants. He can destroy something within a second, so there's things he's not allowed to play with, and it upsets him, but he has gotten so much better at accepting no as an answer. He knows that I will give him whatever he wants that's his, but he can't have his siblings tablets or certain toys like Legos, and of course, those are the things he wants most lmao. But it's really good to give him some limits because he is learning to accept no and find something else.

I could barely listen to the story the mother told about the discovery of Ezri’s condition. 😭 You can tell how special and amazing he is listening to the story the dad told about Ezri in temple. This is like watching my favorite childhood book “All-of-a-Kind Family” brought to life in the 21st century. A loving Jewish family living in/near New York with 5 sisters and 1 brother where the sisters play a role in caring for the brother? It’s perfect! I hope they all read it as kids and enjoyed it as much as me and my sister did :)

Please do more videos with families who have children with severe mental impairments such as this family. People saying things like suggesting ASL, as though a family wouldn't know about ASL or has not thought of it, when you have this much brain damage you are literally physically cognitively wired differently including your physical functioning, which makes processing different, and I don't mean "different" in the very "soft" way that our society is getting adjusted to, it's full on processes that are debilitated. And also don't you think a family who spends so much time with him, and takes care of him, would already know whether or not ASL is an option, given that ASL is not anything new or rare. People really don't understand this level of brain damage, mental impairment, etc.
I'm a speech therapist. I say he can definitely learn some basic signs even with this level of brain damage to express wants and needs. Of course not the entire ASL system but SOME. He also can use a communication board like pointing to simple symbols to communicate words like "eat", "drink", and "bed".
I share your sentiments - that the family would know (with professional guidance) what was best for their son. Out of interest, do other countries use Makaton (sign language for those with special needs or learning difficulties etc)?
My friends brother has brain damage from illness as a little child too. What I know is they are just as important as all of us to get to know. What an amazing family, and young man. Each sister is so amazing to their brother, and he is blessed with a great family!
I will say I'm pretty upset about the doctors who didn't take this mom seriously. 😤 It's very annoying that that's a story that constantly comes up when I see videos like this. On the up side, Ezri has a beautiful family who loves him and his personality really shines through.

Wow this girls are great. Very well raised. Their parents must be so proud and happy. Love to see not only diversity in diagnoses but also diversity in people, race, religions... we need more of that to have a better world with no hate against (or fear of) anyone who just happens to be different from us. This is so incredibly touching. They need an Amazon wish list for the whole family. If anyone deserves it, it’s this family. It’s 💯 % genuine and you can tell!
Going through behavioral health classes working towards a psych degree, I’ve learned that within 100% of communication between 2 people only 7% of it is verbal. 93% is all internal and we do not even know how to process that fully. I challenge myself everyday to make sure that 7% counts. Love his spirit and I will be challenging myself to be as positive and uplifting as him. And for car rides!!

I’m 2 years older than my sister but people think she’s older because I’m disabled. It makes me so mad.

My heart goes out to Ezri's mom because of the pediatrician dismissing the concerns about Ezra. Valuable time was lost. That part is so heartbreaking. I have had problems with not being taken seriously by doctors as well, and receiving incorrect diagnoses leading to inappropriate treatments and medications which further increased the severity of my problems rather than improving my condition. It is lovely to see Ezri with his sisters and to hear his father speak about Ezrais affinitty for Jewish religeous services. Yom Kippur is challenging for anyone to sit for 6 hours. Even if you go with the simplistic notion that God is love, it's easy to see Ezri's connection to love in his family and so spiritually encouraging to hear that he recognizes that love in the practices of Judaism.
i was ignored for a while about my concerns about having adhd, which resulted in me not getting diagnosed til i was 16, and then being diagnosed with high functioning autism this year (19). explained a lot.

He’s definitely a very special young man, and I imagine he finds the services soothing in their ceremony and the calm and predictable way the messages are conveyed. His behavior is a reminder to never pigeonhole anyone, they may just end up surprising you.
This one made my heart happy. I’m not a religious person, but for whatever reason the spirituality of this family hits home for me. This family is so incredibly full of love for each other. It doesn’t feel forced. It’s genuine love and care for each other.

I'm so moved by the sentiment and certainty they possess, and of course, the love, adoration, and care they bestow on their sibling.

I have 2 autistic sons and my 4 other children know that when their dad and I for whatever reason can’t take care of them anymore, they will most definitely welcome them into them into their homes. We don’t know who is going to take who yet because they are all still young but they know what to do when it’s time!

My daughter has an aac and I was thinking the same thing. It would open a whole new world for him especially since he wants to communicate so much and really intentionally just doesn't have the motor skills to speak the words.

I have an aunt with severe autism. My gran (her carer) sadly died from cancer when my aunt was in her 40's. Before my gran died, my other aunt offered to become her carer. Both my aunts are in their 70s now, and still coping very well together. It's so nice to hear this sister offering to take her brother in
That was fortunate. I always wonder what will become of the profoundly non-functional when a family isn't around. I don't know how it is in the UK but other than psychiatric facilities, I don't know what kinds of fulltime care facilities exist here. Not that many I don't think.
First of all, this family has huge respect from me. I work as a special instructor for infants and toddlers and see children when they are first diagnosed when possible. I can't help but be angry at the pediatricians that didn't put a newborn into the hospital within the first 24 hours after seeing Ezri. He could have been medically supported sooner and possibly less brain damage could have occurred. Outrageous!! Secondly, Ezri and his siblings were a joy to behold. Many siblings feel put upon for helping out and these 5 sisters showed such an outpouring of love and respect for him. Kol Hakavod!!
Thirdly, thank you Chris for showing religious Jews in such a good light. My heart was truly full to see my fellow brothers and sisters shine brightly.
Finally, May HaShem bless this family with much Yiddishe nachas from all of their children. The story of Ezri and davening actually brought tears to my eyes. May Moshiach come quickly!!

Seeing a disabled person and a Jewish family is so lovely to me. I am personally Jewish, raised that way and practicing now, and seeing this family and their love for their son and brother as well as their love for their religion is lovely to me. This was a heartwarming interview and I adore Ezri. They all seem so lovely to be around. Judaism is a loving and caring religion and seeing it being practiced in this way makes my heart warm with the love of my community and my religion.

I'm mad that the nurse/doctor didn't take the mom seriously when she called about Ezri not being nursed. I'm surprised they didn't even get alarmed when she said there's blood in his diapers!
A lot of medical professionals are like that. Some of them are way too proud of their knowledge and in bad way wherein they don't listen properly, disregard patients experience, misdiagnose and do not take them seriously. Not all obviously but it's like a pattern that exists in many of them.
Ezri has a VERY infectious smile... I found myself unconsciously smiling whenever he did. Thank you to the whole family for letting us into your home and hearts to share in this happiness. :)

Ezri is a gift from God !! I was born a-ok. I was in a coma one week later. I had Encephalitis. the sleeping sickness. That was 69 years ago. There i.s alot that flies overl my head. I cannot understand many things but Bless his heart ❤. EZRI HAS BEAUTIFUL EYES!!!

Whoa, this video was like looking in a black mirror episode with my family 🤯 it was kinda hard to relate with other children growing up because it was hard to explain that your sibling needed more attention and your family life had to adjust outside of the norm to raise them. Religion played a huge part too. We Unfortunately got kicked out of a church or two because my brother was having a tantrum or sensoryoverload but we eventually found a church with server members who were absolute angels. God bless this family and your channel for sharing their story ❤️
I worked with special needs in a church. It didn't take me long to realize, when our Sunday school class was a closet of broken and discarded desks, that the church's goal was not to teach them...but to hide them from mainstream. I went to the copastor and told him it was a disgrace, and they were just as worthy of a regular classroom as everyone else. When I mentioned my suspicions, "So, you don't care what I teach them, you just want me to hide them", his response was, "Basically?...Yes!" They were the only reason I didn't leave that church, then and there.

It must be such a joy to Ezri to know he can go to any synagogue and know what he and everyone around him is going to do. He is sharing and communicating with LOTS of people at one time - and for a really extended time for some services!
When my son was little he had delays due to being a preemie and issues at birth. He would get so frustrated when we couldn't figure out what he wanted. It was so heartbreaking as a parent to not know what I needed to do to keep my baby content. He caught up as he got older, thankfully. I can't imagine the lifelong struggle for Ezri. I am glad he has a great support system.
I LOVE this beautiful family! I worked with people with developmental disabilities for over 40 years. I have seen every type of family from those who can't accept or cope with the disability, to families that love and support. I agree with the dad when he says, I believe he sees angels. I believe they do too, and spending 40 years in this work, I have seen it over and over again. God-bless you! You are a wonderful family!❤
He has such beautiful happy blue eyes! Love the relationship his sisters have with him. His oldest sister said she was his primary care giver but I think she means his protector because she was 4 when he was born & able to form that bond they needed.
His parents cracked me up when his dad felt the need to clarify when he drinks... I don't think any of us thought his mom was referring to alcohol.

I kinda love that she used the word trapped. My boyfriends son is 6, and can't walk or talk, and I always explain his behavioral issues come from the fact that he feels trapped. He can't express himself and that's frustrating. So when he swings, it's not that he wants to hurt someone, he just wants to get his point across, and his siblings ignore him so much sometimes, that he resorts to hitting to get attention, even if it's negative. I just hope the other kids grow up and can be more apart of helping him, because a lot of the time, he gets frustrated because he just wants to do what his siblings are doing.
These videos really have helped me become a better parent to my two special needs kids, and I can't thank you enough for giving these people a voice.
Lmao I love the youngest, she's so funny. She reminds me of me. I also try not to give in and let my youngest get whatever he wants. He can destroy something within a second, so there's things he's not allowed to play with, and it upsets him, but he has gotten so much better at accepting no as an answer. He knows that I will give him whatever he wants that's his, but he can't have his siblings tablets or certain toys like Legos, and of course, those are the things he wants most lmao. But it's really good to give him some limits because he is learning to accept no and find something else.

Please do more videos with families who have children with severe mental impairments such as this family. People saying things like suggesting ASL, as though a family wouldn't know about ASL or has not thought of it, when you have this much brain damage you are literally physically cognitively wired differently including your physical functioning, which makes processing different, and I don't mean "different" in the very "soft" way that our society is getting adjusted to, it's full on processes that are debilitated. And also don't you think a family who spends so much time with him, and takes care of him, would already know whether or not ASL is an option, given that ASL is not anything new or rare. People really don't understand this level of brain damage, mental impairment, etc.
I'm a speech therapist. I say he can definitely learn some basic signs even with this level of brain damage to express wants and needs. Of course not the entire ASL system but SOME. He also can use a communication board like pointing to simple symbols to communicate words like "eat", "drink", and "bed".
I share your sentiments - that the family would know (with professional guidance) what was best for their son. Out of interest, do other countries use Makaton (sign language for those with special needs or learning difficulties etc)?
My friends brother has brain damage from illness as a little child too. What I know is they are just as important as all of us to get to know. What an amazing family, and young man. Each sister is so amazing to their brother, and he is blessed with a great family!
I will say I'm pretty upset about the doctors who didn't take this mom seriously. 😤 It's very annoying that that's a story that constantly comes up when I see videos like this. On the up side, Ezri has a beautiful family who loves him and his personality really shines through.

The family is so laid back. He is so loved. I really liked this family and how awesome they are.
Going through behavioral health classes working towards a psych degree, I’ve learned that within 100% of communication between 2 people only 7% of it is verbal. 93% is all internal and we do not even know how to process that fully. I challenge myself everyday to make sure that 7% counts. Love his spirit and I will be challenging myself to be as positive and uplifting as him. And for car rides!!
