Custom Flatbed Build

  • After the bed of the Dodge Ram 2500 was damaged from a faulty tire Gil decided to build a custom flatbed. He pulled out all the stops. Nearly every piece is custom from the tie downs on the side to the weather-proof toolboxes made from scratch. It is truly a work of functional art!
When life throws you lemons (or faulty tires) you make...a custom flatbed!
Although the Flatbed build was a one-time deal for personal use, Gil is available on a first come first served basis for other custom projects including custom headache racks as seen here - with custom removable/replaceable window guard. Follow us on Facebook at / fireforms and Instagram @st._michael_metal_art and visit our web site at notyourmamascom....

I love how folks build & design their own truck beds that will most likely end up on a few more trucks in its life time. I always think when i see a bed being redone into a better design that something seems to be missing. I thing of a truck in general, and one thing comes to mind. Why no tailgate? I mean a truck needs a tailgate or its just not complete. Like say you was to add a tailgate to the back area with the lights built into the back of the gate, and when the gate was down there could be pull out ramps tucked in behind it along with other hidden stuff to make it fun. Like Maybe a vise could be in the corner of the gate or two or three pull out toolbox like drawers along with some slide out ramps. The tailgate could act as a spot to rest or a quick work bench or what ever you can think of. Thanks for the awesome video all the same........ , , ⎝⧹╲⎝⧹ÐΛЯΞ †o ÐЯΞΛM⧸⎠╱⧸⎠ ✨[̲̅$̲̅(̲☠)̲̅$̲̅]✨¹°°

Gil, as a metal fabricator and metal artist myself, your craftsmanship and design are superb. I will have to admit that as I ponder a flat bed for my Dodge I am going to steal some of your concept ideas to incorporate into my build.

I sure need to start my bed before the year is over. A shop and fork lift would make things a lot easier. I guess once my truck is finished I can start a shop for my projects.

Very nice job! Love the bed, hate the red, just my two cents. That shot of the bead should be on a Miller welder commercial! And last but not least, it's about time someone on UA-cam put some good music to their video instead of that techno crap!

Thanks Dany. Gil is from a small mountain community in northern New Mexico. He does not make flatbeds for others but he does make headache racks as well as smaller artistic pieces :).

Very nice work! I spotted your video while looking at other videos on truck flatbeds (as made by CM, Pro-tech, Alum-Line, Hillsborough, etc.). Each pre-manufactured version has shortcomings which a custom flatbed would resolve. Are you located anywhere near northern California?

Darn. 1000+ miles is too far, especially when it's not Summer travel time. I'll likely just pick one of the stock beds and either retrofit them or live with compromises.
