  • In this episode I fabricated the entire flatbed. Pretty long video so stayed tuned for some cool things!
First thing I did was fabricate the main frame and made sure it was square. Once the frame was done it was removed from the truck so we could continue to work on the cab of the truck.
Once removed, I fabricated the flat steel deck as well as the headboard. Next I used the plasma cutter to cut and fit lights into the rear plate. After the plate was installed the bed was moved from the trailer to barrels. The purpose of this was so I could weld underneath so the deck didn't pop up and down.
Next I built a custom bumper step on the back. After that was completed We got to work on grinding down the seams and cleaning the bed up for paint.
The bed was removed from the barrels and flipped up on its slide for a couple reasons. The first is so I could weld some more of the deck down, the second is so we could clean and paint the underneath. The next reason is for wiring. I pre wired about 70% while it was on its side so I didn't have to lay down under the truck, and finally the last reason was because I silicone all the seams and graps closed to help prevent rust.
As for paint we used a 2 part epoxy primer with 2 coats and we coats of enamel black paint.
