I tend to lean toward skepticism when it comes to relics like the Shroud, but with all the recent findings coming out, I can honestly say that my confidence level is very high for this being the real deal. Never thought I would say that a few years ago.

On his podcast, Father Carlos Martins, exorcist, said that a priest gave him a tiny strand from the shroud. He did not know for fact if the string was authentic but he assumed so. When he had a really terrible possession case that was very difficult and nothing was progressing, he pulled out the envelope with the strand of the shroud. The demon of the possessed person immediately became quiet, subdued, and it positioned the person's body to match the image on the shroud (crossed wrists etc) and if I recall, he said it was whimpering. Father knew then the strand was authentic.

At any rate, what has been proven is that shroud is a fake first mentioned and displayed in the early 14th century. The fact the carbon dating confirmed that date should be enough for anyone even remotely rational.

It is fake and he is being dishonest. For example at around 9-10 minutes in when he is talking about Peter at the empty tomb and the author uses 3 different words. No competent writer will use repetitive words if they can avoid it. I learned this in like 3rd grade when they taught us about dictionaries and thesauruses.

@robertstephenson6806 Not sure how you conclude the truth of (1).
      (2) While there does seem to be tension between the idea of a face-cloth and the image on the shroud, this is not conclusive evidence. It is evidence, but I'm not confident in our ability to know precisely what the nature of the face-cloth is at this point. Perhaps there is a way to reconcile the two. I'm sure shroud scholars have looked into the question and have presented some alternatives. One would need to interact with their work before declaring the evidence was conclusive.
      (3) This seems the weakest of your arguments. Reconstructing the features of the man of the shroud is not nearly precise enough to tell us how attractive he was, how good his posture was, whether he had a lazy eye, if he had yellow teeth, or many other things.

Do you know how God defines faith? The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things NOT SEEN. This is fleshy carnal filthy degeneracy. You keep thinking that if I can see it and touch it that brings some great power. That it somehow strengthens faith. Your foolish and understand nothing about the kingdom of God. Your flesh is stuck in the kingdom of heaven. It's a mental disorder at the least. The CAT-holics claimed to have Jesus' baby linen. Why you'd keep a dirty diaper for 2000 years idk. Claimed to have John the Baptist head and some of Mary's breast milk. Ya have to be mentally sick. What does do it? Absolutely nothing, just a perversion and distraction from the one thing undeniably that is from God. All scripture is given by inspiration of God. The superior and pure words of God found in the authorized KJV.

Just looked into it. Apparently, the carbon dating that was conducted the first time was flawed. A new non-destructive test via Wide-Angle X-Ray Scattering was conducted, which dates it back to the 1st century AD, and the blood remains shows high levels of bilirubin (this is released by the liver), which is consistent of someone who was tortured. Not only that, but apparently the only way for the image to have appeared the way it has, is through electromagnetic radiation, which increases carbon 14! So because the original researchers that did the initial carbon dating failed to factor this in, they got faulty results with respect to the date to which the shroud dates back. This is fascinating information.

Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the LINEN CLOTHS [plural] lying there, and the FACE CLOTH [singular], which had been on Jesus' head, not lying WITH the LINEN CLOTHS [plural] but folded up in a place by itself.
And there has to be a comparing view on how Jews were buried at that time although all steps happend after Christs' death were done in a hurry and it is therefore maybe not comparable 100 % with the standard e.g. the story of Lazarus:
      John 11:44
The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with LINEN STRIPS [plural], and his face wrapped with A CLOTH. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
But if we would refer to this standard then it debunks the authenticity of the shroud even better than John 20:6+7.

@@wipo3654 You could use a _lot_ Bible study as well as Shroud study.
Those of us that have _actually studied_ *both* the Bible as well as the Shroud know that the face cloth is in Spain today where it has been for the last 1400 years. It is known as the Sudarium of Oviedo.
And no, Jesus was *not* wrapped up like King Tut. Funny how some people are that silly to think so.
. 1. 'And Joseph bought a linen *shroud,* and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen *shroud* [Mark 15:46] 2. 'And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen *shroud'* [Matthew 27:59] 3. 'Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen *shroud'* [Luke 23:53] Each of the synoptic Gospels mention Joseph of Arimathea making use of a single linen cloth to wrap the body of Jesus for burial. The Word 'Sindon' (singular noun ) means 'A clean sheet' and the Word 'Othonion' (plural noun) means 'bandages'. Luke uses the same plural noun (Othonion), “funeral linens,” in his account of the Resurrection (Luke 24: 12) after earlier speaking of the singular burial cloth (Sindon) or *shroud* (Luke 23 :53) . This plural noun mentioned in (Luke 24: 12) is intended to include all the funeral elements such as : 1) A long *shroud( - It's used to wrap whole body 2)A face cloth or 'Soudarion' - It's not used to wrap whole head but to wipe the perspiration from one’s face. The Greek word 'Soudarion' was derived from a Latin word for “sweat.” 3)A few stripes of linen - They help to tie a shroud around a body The Fourth Gospel never mentions such a 'Sindon'. Instead, John writes of Joseph and Nicodemus “binding the body of Jesus in strips of linen” The verb 'Binding' ( δέω) is frequently found in the context of binding a prisoner with chains. (Mark 5.3; 6.17; Acts 12.6; 21.33) John uses the same verb in Revelation for the 'binding' of the dragon (Rev 20: 2)
Those "strips" were there to hold the body in place during rigor, as well as to secure the Shroud to his body. Duh!
And who out there is dumb enough to believe _anything_ from Wikipedia? Wikipedia is an anti-religious, anti-Christian business with political answers based on personal bias. You should doubt almost everything they write on contentious issues. Same with Snopes kids.
All intelligent people that have spend even a couple for hours studying the Bible and the Shroud _know_ that is is no fake.
. It was *proven* by many dozens of doctors, scientists, archeologists, and other highly trained researchers and their _tens of thousands of hours_ of examination that the Shroud *most definitely* wrapped the body of a severely beaten, scourged and crucified man that was wearing a crown or cap of thorns before he died. *PROVEN.* Only an imbecile would be dumb enough to think that this was someone other than our Lord Jesus.

Thanks for statement. Tell me please your reliable sources that the sudarium matches with the shroud. I only know the controversy of the sudarium on Wikipedia and there is also mentioned that it covered a man with a squeezed nose.
Apart from this occupy yourself with the burial tradition of jews 2000 years ago. Compare this info with the gospels. I am still of the opinion that the body of Jesus was wrapped with linen strips in the same way as Lazarus. And Lazarus could come out of the tomb on his own. This would be impossible beeing wrapped in one piece of textile.
The gospel of John clearly mentioned that Jesus was buried according to the tradition at that time. And remember that Joseph and Nikodemus were rich people so we have to consider also this.

What is interesting is that the Catholic Church has never claimed the church is genuine.
The carbon dating of the shroud places it around the time the shroud appears in history.
Even if the shroud dated to the first century, there is no evidence that it was Christ’s burial shroud. Many people were crucified in the first century. There is no chain of custody for the shroud.
If a body was wrapped in the shroud, when you flattened the shroud the image would be distorted because of spherical excess caused by projecting a three dimensional image onto a two dimensional surface.

Thing is, the shroud has a strip of linen attached to the side of it (just google image it) other documentaries state that part was sown back to the shroud. Theory is it was really the strip that binded the body together from the outside (and also caused the image disruption close to the neck). The face cloth hasn’t been found (could be the Oviedo cloth, google it). So the passage doesn’t invalidade the shroud, people just assume that, for some reason, if we have just the shroud, then that’s the only thing used in the burial.

For starters, a 14th century artist would have to create something we are unable to create today, with artistic means that were never again used. It would be easy to say it was just a regular Roman crucifixion because they are found other people and remains with similar nails in the feet, etc. but the only one in all of history had a crown of thorns. Also, Roman soldiers knew exactly how many lashes with the whip, that would kill a man and when to stop and the lashes with the whip with that metal matches the scars on his back. The Greek words mentioned "οθονια" (othonia)11:50 is the one in Luke 24:12. He's right, it's plural. σινδονα (sindona) is the word from Mark15:46 where Joseph of Arimathea buys cloth to wrap Jesus's body. It's singular. He's right, there's a shroud and something plural that contextually looks more like strips.

This relic has x-ray qualities on the cloth. We know that the outer fibers are oxidized to form the image. It’s like a negative like film. It’s basically and X-ray because you can see the arm, underneath the arm. Certainly it can only be due to a strong burst of radiation coming from the body. It could not be faked in that era. The injuries where exactly what was described in the Bible. The AB blood type is another give away. It’s rare in the population with one exception. Jews in northern Israel have this blood type in far greater numbers. The only person that I ever knew with this blood type was a friend of mine who is half Jewish. Those two facts stood out giveaways as to what this is: x-ray image and AB blood type. Furthermore, the face cloth in Spain also has AB blood type and the odds of that coincidence are too unlikely for it to be coincidence. For both to have the same blood type by chance would be .02 x .02.
We all know what this is.

Everyone should also be aware that the carbon dating sample or area,Where the samples were taken. The area chosen just happened to be a woven medieval repair that was cleverly spliced into the linen fabric and then died to match the rest! Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus by night, came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds [about 32 kg] in weight. So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in LINEN CLOTHES [plural] with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.
      John 20:6+7
Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the LINEN CLOTHS [plural] lying there, and the FACE CLOTH [singular], which had been on Jesus' head, not lying WITH the LINEN CLOTHS [plural] but folded up in a place by itself.

Such as the if the image was a fake that an artist painted, the blood had to be painted before the image of Jesus was painted. I feel that the fact that it was a negative when photographed is one of the best pieces of evidence. The flash of light had to be so immense to produce the negative. Something no avaliable until around 1836. Great video, thank-you.

The absence of evidence is not evidence of the absence of knowledge about photography. Leonardo da Vinci did experiments with a camera obscura, and his alchemical knowledge might have included that of photo-sensitive chemicals. You don't need a bright flash of light to create the image on the Turin Shroud, just a camera obscura working on a well-lit corpse, projecting its image onto a genuine burial cloth brought back from the Holy Land by a pilgrim and covered in a solution of some photo-sensitive chemical that might have been known to alchemists of the day. You cannot rule out a possibility simply for want of any evidence.

One of the most moving accounts of the veneration of relics is that of the very body of Christ itself. Rather than leaving his body on the cross, to be taken down and disposed of by the Romans (as was the customary practice), Joseph of Arimathea courageously interceded with Pilate for Christ’s body (Mark 15:43, John 19:38). He donated his own, newly hewn tomb as Christ’s resting place (Matt. 27:60). Nicodemus came and donated over a hundred pounds of spices to wrap inside Jesus’ grave clothes (John 19:39), that amount of spices being used only for the most honored dead. And after he was buried, the women went to reverently visit the tomb (Matt. 28:1) and to further anoint Christ’s body with spices even though it had already been sealed inside the tomb (Mark 16:1, Luke 24:1). These acts of reverence were more than just the usual courtesy shown to the remains of the dead; they were special respect shown to the body of a most holy man-in this case, the holiest man who has ever lived, for he was God Incarnate.
Keep in mind what the Church says about relics. It doesn’t say there is some magical power in them. There is nothing in the relic itself, whether a bone of the apostle Peter or water from Lourdes, that has any curative ability. The Church just says that relics may be the occasion of God’s miracles, and in this the Church follows Scripture.
The use of the bones of Elisha brought a dead man to life: “So Elisha died, and they buried him. Now bands of Moabites used to invade the land in the spring of the year. And as a man was being buried, lo, a marauding band was seen and the man was cast into the grave of Elisha; and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood on his feet” (2 Kgs. 13:20-21). This is an unequivocal biblical example of a miracle being performed by God through contact with the relics of a saint!
Similar are the cases of the woman cured of a hemorrhage by touching the hem of Christ’s cloak (Matt. 9:20-22) and the sick who were healed when Peter’s shadow passed over them (Acts 5:14-16). “And God did extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, so that handkerchiefs or aprons were carried away from his body to the sick, and diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them” (Acts 19:11-12).
If these aren’t examples of the use of relics, what are? In the case of Elisha, a Lazarus-like return from the dead was brought about through the prophet’s bones. In the New Testament cases, physical things (the cloak, the shadow, handkerchiefs and aprons) were used to effect cures. There is a perfect congruity between present-day Catholic practice and ancient practice.

Also to illustrate just how thin the image is on the fibres, it's around 2microns, A4 paper thickness is around 80 microns. There's so many facts that could've been mentioned here, like in the blood on the cloth a chemical called bilirubin which permanently makes blood red instead of turning it black, this chemical is released under immense torture and pain. Regarding how the image was formed two scientists ( can't remember their names) theorised that the image was formed by light shinning from inside the body from every angle equivalent of around several billion watts for around a millisecond, whilst at the same time the cloth was sinking into the body, muscles, bones etc whilst the body was bilocating so to speak, as on the shroud it also provides an x-ray image showing bones, teeth and nails... the reading of several billion watts is also similar to readings found on an electromagnetic read from inside the alleged tomb of Christ. These are just tips of the ice berg when it comes to what scientists have found.

Too bad this wasn’t a much longer discussion as the Shroud is a fascinating relic. I’m familiar with most of the original Carbon dating test issues, though I must have forgotten about them “averaging out” the years. Even if the carbon dating is sketchy, I think the dirt and pollen give a better support for its authenticity.
Not only due to the location of where the material is found, but I believe the stuff was imbedded in the fibers. So the dirt and pollen wouldn’t be something one just casually rubs on, but have to go through the whole processes of falling and getting wrapped up in the clothes. Which seems pretty extreme for a hoaxer to do.

What is the difference between a two dimensional, like a flat surface, and three dimensional, like a spherical surface, shape? When you flatten a three dimensional shape , like a head or body, into a flat two dimensional shape like the shroud, you have to account for spherical excess. The shroud does not reflect spherical excess, it is a two dimensional shape, like a painting.
You do not need the shroud to test that it’s not an imprint of a body. You can test this yourself at home. I have: cover your face in face paint. Lie down and place a white cloth over your face and gently mould it to your face so that it contacts the contours of your face. Carefully remove it. Stretch it flat like the shroud. You will note that the image is distorted and looks nothing like you. That’s because you have taken a spherical image and flattened it. You have to account not just for the front of your face, but also the sides. Also, your forehead is not flat, and we have protrusions called nose and mouth, which also has to be accounted for.
Even if the shroud was a burial cloth, how do we know it was Jesus’s burial cloth? There is no chain of custody from the tomb to its appearance in the 13th or 14th century.

    • @beverlyhurd8556

You have not studied anything at all about the Shroud, have you? How the fabric, the pollen and dirt on it at date to Biblical days of Jerusalem? All they have proven was that it contained a body that was beaten like Jesus was, scourged like Jesus was, was crucified like Jesus was AND wore a cap of thorns (only Jesus in recorded history was crucified wearing one of those) like Jesus was. To those of us that are blessed with better than average intelligence that spells it out quite clearly. And the thousands of manhours of research do a fine job at showing who was on the Shroud as well.

You have fundamentally misunderstood how the science proposes the image was made. May I respectfully ask that you watch some of the other analysis of the shroud scientific analysis. They cover your objection. All I will say in support of your view is that the blood that appears to be in the hair of Jesus is actually from his cheek where the cloth touched his face. It shows the cloth was away from the body when the photographic projection was made. The image is a photographic negative image.

You also wanna know what's the width of 200-500nm? Ultraviolet radiation. These wavelengths are important to know when etching silicone chips in the 90's, as you are limited to the size of transistors you use by the wavelength of the radiation you use. Of course now we use more specialized techniques by firing particles at chips for tens of nanometer sizes. But I bring up the point to describe that the staining might have only been possible by exposure to radiation, as it's in a very specific depth of absorption.

In true Christianity faith is greater than " fact", as the Risen Lord told Thomas. But the Shroud of Turin is a miraculous witness nonetheless. And it perfectly fits the Gospel Narrative. This amazing relic has been supernaturally preserved for the modern "Doubting Thomases" of Our precious Brotherhood of true Born Again From Above Believers. Faith is the "substance" of things hoped for, the "evidence" of things not seen. The Shroud ot of Turin is the substance, ancient linen cloth, that is seen, the tangible evidence of a real event in His Story of True Faith. It is living proof of the Way, the Truth and The Life of Jesus Christ the Son of God, the Saviour of the world! I have not seen The Risen Christ, but I have seen where He laid in the tomb, wrapped front and back by this piece of cloth. I have no doubts in the shroud or the Resurrection, Ascension, or The Second Coming! Amen.
