Crusoe is lucky to grow up in such an environment, in a family. He has a real childhood!
He absolutely LOVES it on the farm Sandor ❤️❤️❤️
I love the way Crusoe is so involved in the restoration of his farm. Lol. He is so cute.
He always wants to help us with the projects Lorraine, very cute and helpful little guy. Thanks so much for watching friend 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Crusoe is so dang cute!!!! I love how patient John is with him by letting him help.
Thank you Donna, we love our little apprentice ❤️❤️❤️
I love watching Crusoe having his best life, you two are great parents to your boys, they are going to learn how to be very handy ❤❤❤❤
I think Crusoe needs his own play tools for Christmas...😊 🌴🍊🐊
That's a great idea Sheryl 😊🙏🏼❤️
I think it's cute that you think your children will ever know where they put your stuff that they 'borrowed'. 🙂
Trying to be optimistic Ashley 😂 Thanks so much for watching friend 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
I am 49 years old and the joy I got from seeing Crusoe play around in that muddy puddle is immense. John we have all seen your handy
wood skills in the vans so I am sute that kitchen will be lovely, was happy to see you left that fireplace, it gives soo much character.
We started our veggie garden with hugelkultur raised beds and we love that. Anyway as always enjoyed this video. Hope the water issue
will be fixed and wish you all a great weekend/week
❤
We are so glad he could put a smile on your face Anja. Thanks so much for watching friend, we love the idea of raised beds 🥕🥔🇵🇹😊❤️
Thanks for sharing your beautiful farm. Its so beautiful there. Crusoes living his best life. Nice to see hes helping Daddy. Awesome
Thanks Conni! What a lovely comment to read. Thank you friend. we are having so much fun here on the farm. Great to have you joining us. 🙏🇵🇹🏡
Definitely raised beds and the Hugelkultur method all the way for your veggie garden. Although possibly more work at the start, over the years it will save you time, money and effort and will also save you from backache and sore knees. My advice would be to make them twice as big as you think you need 😘. Long and thin(nish) is better than long and wide so no stretching to get to the middle is involved. Good luck!
Thanks Madeleine, we like that idea 🥕🥔🇵🇹😊❤️
Crusoe must make the hard work a little easier to get through 😊 and shouldn’t all remember the pure joy of a rain puddle ?☔️ thanks, Crusoe 🥰
He does indeed A-Chau, Thanks so much for watching friend 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
I am so impressed. It is hard enough to take care of a toddler AND a baby. To do this with Tara's brave smile and a not yet ready home - chapeau! Love the positivity you both exude!!
Thanks so much friend, you are too kind ❤️❤️❤️
I have a no dig garden which had weeds and Bermuda grass which is almost as bad as bamboo.. I had no weeds come up through the cardboard and mulch.. And as I planted bulbs this fall the cardboard had decomposed and enriched the soil.. When you don't disturb the soil you don't bring weed seeds up to the surface. It's a great method.
The 'not garage' and now the 'not fridge cupboard' love it lol! Great work on the kitchen cupboard and the fitting of the oven, brilliant work John.
😀splashing in a mud puddle is good for the soul 🌈- adorable seeing Crusoe showing us how simple things in life bring us joy! Such a great job on the woodwork esp the built in cabinet! Can’t wait to see the finish.
Crusoe absolutely LOVES puddles and mud! Thanks so much for watching friends ❤️❤️❤️
Hello Newby's... no dig gardens are the best. Covering the walkways between the beds will kill the weeds... no tilling necessary. We found putting tools out of reach will keep them from getting "misplaced". So happy that you're doing the permaculture farm. Another thing you might want to look at is "food forests"... make sure you make a map for the perennial edibles. John "losing" track of Caruso is hysterical... my oldest was the adventurous one... had to put bells on her shoes to keep track of her. Caught her, at about Caruso's age, half way up a ladder almost a story and a half in the back of the house... didn't panic, just bribed her with a bowl of ice cream. Last time my dad left a ladder up. She's 50 now, more cautious now. The odor at the sink is from you drain not the sink. You need to put in an 'S' trap, you smelling gases coming back up. Some of your dripping issues could or maybe resolved with gasket replacements. See you next week... love to you all.
Hello Cathy. We like the sound of food forests, will definitely look into that! Thanks so much for watching and for your constant support friend, we always love hearing from you. See you next Sunday ❤️❤️❤️
What a lovely way to start my birthday. I loved the segment with your farm sitting in the magical morning mist. I am in total awe of the respectful way you both parent Crusoe. Most busy parents would see a toddler jumping in a mud puddle as an annoying interruption to your work and a mess to clean up afterward. John, you always seem delighted when Crusoe is exploring the world and share in his joy for life. Lucky boy! 😊
Happy Birthday Elizabeth! We love that our little man is exploring the farm and learning new things every single day. Thanks so much for watching friend ❤️❤️❤️
Happy Birthday!
Hi guys, I do the no dig method on our allotment. It saves all that backbreaking digging and once the cardboard and compost has gone down you can plant straightaway. The crops have been amazing as well this year. Just getting another area started ready for next spring. Definitely worth a go, and our ground is full of docks with massive roots. Also you could do raised beds with the same method and see how that goes. I know I say it every week but Crusoe is just adorable. Love and hugs to all of you xx
Thanks Jenny, that is definitely something we are leaning towards. Our little Crusoe gets cuter every single day friend. Sending love and hugs to you, we are so appreciate of your constant support ❤️❤️❤️
I can hear your lovely British accent in your words.
The no-dig method is really great. I’ve tried it in my garden with just one flower bed and regret not having researched it sooner so that I could use it with all my previous beds.
That is definitely something we want to do Agda. Thanks so much for watching friend 🥕🥔🇵🇹😊❤️
@@TheNewbys No-dig has been my method on my various allotments for years. Happy Permaculturing, it's so much easier on your back as well. Everyone needs to be doing it for soil health, biodiversity and the health of the human skeleton. Permaculture suggests there needs to be three reasons for any action, when decision-making. Fun could be one of them.
Crusoe did not abandon the plumbing job,he was just taking a mental break which is very importante when you renovate a house ,talking from experience 😂
Great progress you guys, love your happy go lucky disposition,it’s an inspiration for sure
We love that Paula, his mental break running through the puddles haha Thanks so much for watching friend 😊🇵🇹❤️
Caruso is living his best life, puddles, mud pies, etc So much joy
He is indeed Nancy ❤️❤️❤️
Your entire property is INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL. I SO LOVE IT and all of you.
😍
Thank you Bev! Thanks so much for watching and taking this journey with us, your support is so very much appreciated! 👍🙏🇵🇹🏡
Great progress on the new space!! Beautiful! ❤ And your wonderful neighbors are such a blessing!!! ❤
Thanks so much for watching Sandra 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
Crusoe and the puddle was the cutest thing ever!! Good job with the sink John, hope to see it all come together soon! Happy Sunday friends, see you next week. ~ Jen
He absolutely LOVES puddles and mud Jen! Happy Sunday friend, sending you lots of love ❤️❤️❤️
Muddles, memories and a Mom who knows where everything is! I eye spy a little man who needs his own tool box for Christmas! ❤
Great to hear from you friend, we are so grateful for your support! 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
A mucky kid is a happy kid x
You are quite right friend 😊🙏🏼❤️
I think the bottom field is a perfect place for your veggie patch. The shade likely won’t be an issue as most plants do better with morning sun and afternoon shade in hotter climates.
With the weed problem, especially mint, I think you’re correct that you will need to till the area once and then do cardboard. Another option is to get thick tarps and cover the area for months - ideally in the summer when it’s hot - to kill the plants underneath.
Personally I would do raised beds, with a few heavy layers of cardboard in the bottom to prevent weed regrowth. Given it’s a hot climate in the summer and water is a precious resource for you I would look into wicking beds - they will help suppress the weeds and conserve your water, whilst being kinder to your back. They also require less watering - always a bonus when you have 2 little boys to tend to as well!
Try and find a source for bulk wood chips ASAP - using them on your paths around the beds will help with the weed suppression and soil health. You may be able to find tree companies that will drop them off for free/small cost - if so take as many loads as you can - they will be useful for making compost which you’ll likely need a lot of to get your garden established - as well as for the paths.
Thanks so much Claire, wicking beds sound great. We appreciate your advice friend! 🥕🥔🇵🇹😊❤️
I totally agree with the raised bed design.
The opening shots are breathtaking! I’m convinced that Crusoe is reincarnated from an African boy, because he just loves the outdoors, no matter what the weather is like, I just love his enthusiasm. The project is starting to take place, can’t wait to see the end product 🥰🥰🥰🥰
He absolutely loves it on the farm Rene. Thanks so much for watching friend 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
A pair of gumbbots and wet weather gear are the best investment for a child. Crusoe is so lucky his mum and dad understand the freedom to fully explore his environment that those things give him
It is indeed Lisa! Thanks so much for watching friend ❤️❤️❤️
Hi dear fab Foursome again!!, so great to see the progress, wow, nearly there John.!! Cant wait to see next Sundays episode...yes, get a new sink in HA HA....Lovely to see you all again. Well done folks,
lots of love, Jen, UK
Hi Jen, John has done an incredible job with the kitchen! Can't wait to see the finished product. Sending you lots of love and thanks friend, your constant support means the world to us ❤️❤️❤️
Hi, the Newbys. Again big smiles on my face with this episode when John said to Crusoe : "it' s time for work now" and Crusoe thought it was time to have fun and play in the puddles.😀 Sooooo nice.
I send you my best wishes for the renovation and all the challenges you're facing.
The day will come when you enjoy the fruits of the hard labor you put into this process. Step by step...
A really warm hug to all 4 of you.
Hi Laurence, Crusoe seems to think that playing in the puddles is "work". Thanks so much for watching friend 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
I promise this is my last comment but after watching your video this week I am struck by how amazing you both are and how hard this must be. But your journey is 90% of the joy all of this will bring to your lives and to each other and your boys in 5-10-15 years not to mention the joy it brings me today. The carpentry skills, the baking skills, the patience you both have and the laughter your boys bring to your world are like 24 karat memories. We don’t all get to do what you’re doing now. It thrills me to see you accomplish what you do. Be brave. You’re building something great.
Thank you friend! Such a kind and generous comment, greatly appreciate by all four of us and read with a big smile on our faces. Thank you so much. 🙏🙏❤️❤️
Oh my gosh my heart melts, the father son bond is a beautiful experience to observe. Fabulous!
So special isn't it Jennifer! Thanks so much for watching friend ❤️🇵🇹
I enjoyed seeing Crusoe's joy playing in the mud puddle 🥰😂. May the water flow on this farm soon. All the best
Thank you Fatima ❤️❤️❤️
Newby family, you are just so amazing and adorable! Like the majority of us who look forward each Sun to catching up on your progress at the farm, this was no exception. No matter what road blocks appear, your spirit and enthusiasm continues each week.
Thank you Jeannine, you are too kind. We are so appreciate of your support 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
The opening visuals were stunning. It’s amazing what you’ve accomplished outside inspite of so many things going wrong. But today, with a new baby and great helpers, all must seem pretty damn good.
Thanks Karen ❤️❤️❤️
I admire your carpentry skills John and that oven looks so good in your cupboard that you designed. Great idea to have it elevated to protect those little hands. Love how sweet Crusoe tries to imitate your renovation jobs with enthusiasm. Puddles are the best and brought back childhood memories. Look foward to your new kitchen. 😊
Thanks so much Martine, we are so grateful for your support friend 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
The views are just spectacular and things are shaping up beautifully! That sweet boy needs his very own tool box.
Thanks so much for watching friend 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
Hi Newbys Congratulations on your fiftieth vlog of your farm renovations. Your new kitchen is coming along beautifully. I can't wait until next week to see how it all comes together.
I enjoy seeing Crusoe each week to see what he is getting in to around the farm. I enjoyed seeing him play in the mud, he really is developing a personality of his own. John you are so lucky to have him as your apprentice. Cheers until next week. Looking forward to see what Tara decides with the vege patch. Sandra.
Hi Sandra, thanks so much friend! Our little man absolutely loves helping with the projects. We are so appreciate of your support friend 🍂😊🇵🇹❤️
I think she said 30th episode not 50th
I love watching your adventures once a week. I can't tell you how many memories it is bringing back for me of years gone by with my Husband and two now adult kids. Good times treasure them they really do go fast 🥰
Thanks Cathy, we definitely do treasure every moment together ❤️❤️❤️
WHOW JOHN ..... IT'S ALL LOOKING SO WONDERFUL NOW 💕
Thanks so much Candace ❤️❤️❤️
So wonderful to watch you both parent your children. Little boys and puddles magical. Know the issues with no sink to clean up a little boy makes it even more amazing. Blessings from Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks so much for watching Tracy ❤️❤️❤️
John you have such a lovely gentle nature! I was waiting for Crusoe to plop down into the mud! The new kitchen is going to be lovely and we will be here Tara to see your garden in full bloom one day! Always another wonderful video! See you next Sunday ~Cara 💖
Thanks Cara, this is so kind of you to say. Crusoe did indeed plop into the mud, looked up and smiled haha he is a little champion. Thanks so much for watching friend ❤️❤️❤️
The images at the beginning of this week video shows a magical and beautiful land! What a great place!
Trying to work with a children around is also a big challenge. I adored Crusoe playing in the mud - it's great that he can play like that without parents being very upset about it. I remembered Cat Stevens- let the children play! It's good for their growing.
The farm is so beautiful at the moment Teresa. Thanks so much for watching friend, we are so appreciate of your support 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
Tara you look radiant and poor John looks knackered. Must be that dang plumbing. Loved watching Crusoe playing in the mud; what fun! Have a great week. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much Denie ❤️❤️❤️
Crusoe is a happy child. I love him 😍❤️.
He is so happy Lolybel ❤️❤️❤️
Loving watching Cruso getting wet and muddy. John well done keep plodding on. Tarra full of ideas with the garden, keep it simple to begin with. Think about how it works when you go off traveling etc nice one guys and it's looking great.
Thanks Gail, he absolutely LOVES the mud and any kind of puddle! Thanks so much for watching friend, we appreciate your constant support and advice 🥕🥔🇵🇹😊❤️
Hey lovelies! I loved this episode progress on the kitchen - I’ve loved seeing John’s exceptional wood work may I borrow him for my van build please 🤣. He”s going to make a fab kitchen - can’t wait! Veggie garden has to be a no dig just easier to weed, to pull out the root vegetables to keep the whole natural system working as they are meant to be. (Soil bacteria, worms, fungi) we had a no dig veggie, fruit and herb garden using small raised beds, with cardboard, hay and compost. We planted randomly and densely, used garlic, onion, mint and other herb sprays for natural repellents, along with soft bristle tooth brushes to remove eggs off leaves, encouraged spiders to the garden, birds too but that’s a double edged sword eat bugs and tomatoes, planted veggies where one was a barrier to protect the other, maintained healthy soil with rotational growth, and regular weeding. Also used grass clippings around the veggie, herb and fruit gardens, used soapy water sprays too, sometimes tin around certain plants and tin foil. Slugs and snails our biggest problem so used traps with bran , or potatoes slices and burned up any heavily infected plants. It’s keeping a balance of not having too greater range of plants to limit the different predators and parasites attracted. Certain flowers planted with veggies can be good barriers too. The thing about veggie gardens is that if you go away for to long period of time and haven’t got someone who know what they’re doing to look after it whilst away, it gets infected or dies and that can be disheartening something to keep in mind. We grew what we knew we could consume if we had more than what we could eat we shared, canned, pickled, pressed, braised, freezed, dried, and fed to chickens, pigs, goats, and composted cuttings. We were fortunate with usually abundance of rainfall in NZ and volcanic rock bed, bird life, bees- wow things grew fast, huge and in abundance in the suburbs! Your weed issue usually boiled hot water in a weed sprayer with targeted soaking should do the trick but not sure how voluminous your weed issue is?
Crusoe puddle playing and Dad’s apprentice - he’s just a bunch of cuteness!
Hi Piper, some really great tips and advice there, thank you! Borrowing John for your van build, no problem friend we will be in NZ one day I’m sure!! Great fun! Good luck with your build, let us know how you get on!! Thanks so much for your support Piper, great to know you are out there! ❤️🙏👍
Oven fits like a glove! Well done John. The wood work look sharp!!! Tara will be pleased!
Thanks Ruth! Great to hear from you, thanks for watching friend.
The new kitchen is going to look phenomenal!
Fantastic work John! I can’t wait for it to be finished and see Tara and your entire family enjoy it all!
Love it!!! 😘
Thanks so much Renalda 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
You are truly blessed with incredibly helpful neighbors and the most adorable toddler. The pure and innocent joy of jumping in muddy puddles is lost too soon in our lives, nice to see a little video tribute to this stage of childhood where most everything is wonderous and a chance for fun! 😍 Boy o boy do I wish I had those carpentry skills. I'd love to rip out my kitchen and replace it with my own updated design, but carpentry is not in my skillset and where I live even getting a flatpack kitchen installed is expensive. Happy first sundar of Advent! 🌟
We really are blessed with the best Gnarbel! Thanks so much for watching friend, we are so grateful for your support 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
John you have the patience of Jobe. I congratulate you wholeheartedly.
Thank you Storrie. Your support means so much to us ❤️❤️❤️
It's funny John when you/Crusoe loses something you find everything but what you are looking for. I have about 4 tape measures in this 2 bedroom apt. I wish I could throw you one thru the screen.
That always happens Kathy haha we will be sure to have a few tape measures lying around for this exact reason 😂😂 Thanks so much for watching friend 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
Congratulations Newby family on your 50th video on your farm North Portugal. Loved the view of your farm caught in the early morning mist. It is the reason you are all there. Planning ahead your vegetable garden is a breathtaking experience as well as your other projects. Tara you know what you want, it is good you thought of the composting with animals grazing. The adventures of Crusoe and the tape measure was bringing tears of laughter. Sorry John your lovable Crusoe it is one reason we love your family. Taking time to watch him playing in the mud puddles is rewarding. Here I go being nostalgic about watching these little ones grow. We love watching your weekly endeavours and the promises of a beautiful land you are preparing for your family. Cheers and see you all next week🙏🌺💖👍🥰
Thank you so much Joanne! Crusoe definitely makes life very entertaining. He brings such joy to our lives! We love hearing from you friend, see you next Sunday ❤️❤️❤️
@@TheNewbysNov. 2022 so much done in 1 year, kitchen reno done, tiny house built, outside deck built, hobbit house built, garden planted and harvested, chicken coop built and chicken very happy, composting done, and so many other things. So much just in 1 year and Crusoe and Sawyer got older and getting more excited about the farm. Many blessings this year 2024 new home project. Cheers 💖🙏💖🙏🥰💓👍🇵🇹🏡
Hello John, Tara, Crusoe and Sawyer…..Happy Sunday morning to you all. Great to see how well things are coming along with your new kitchen and really looking forward to the grand reveal …..🥳 How beautiful the farm looks in the early winter sunshine with the steam coming off the ground, the great views over the valley and all the lovely colour in the trees. As always…Crusoe continuing to be the star of the show….no offence mum and Dad lol……what is the fascination with muddy puddles!! 😳 best wishes and ❤️ Julie
Hi Julie. Happy Sunday to you too friend. The farm is absolutely beautiful at the moment. Each season is beautiful in it's own way. Thanks so much for watching friend, we always love hearing from you 🍂😊🇵🇹❤️
I loooooove that Cruise absconds with your tools. And that grin on his face. ❤️❤️
Thanks so much for watching Julie ❤️❤️❤️
Greetings to my wonderful Family
💓💓💓💓💓💓💓☺️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹😃😃😃😃😃😃😘😘😘😘
Thank you Teska ❤️❤️❤️
Honestly guys, we've just got so much love for you and your wee family and this epic project you have taken on. Your land is soooo dreamy. We will defo have to come visit when we are back in Europe. Put us to work!!!
Thanks so much Philly & Keely, we absolutely love our little piece of heaven! You should definitely come visit!! Sending you lots of love ❤️❤️❤️
Great carpentry skills John. I like your garden plan Tara. Nice content guys. Looking forward to next week series 💯💯
Thanks Rueben 😊🙏🏼❤️
Cruseo running through the puddles has made my day, such fun xx
Thanks so much for watching Sheila ❤️❤️❤️
É isso aí, não parar e por a mão na massa para transformar e deixa linda , como tudo que vocês fazem.
Thanks Maria! Great to hear from you, thanks for watching friend.
Lovely to see you all again. Another productive week plus making memories ….. a suggestion for your veggie garden is to incorporate Marigold’s intermittently in the garden to keep insects ( bugs) from destroying your produce. It really does work., especially for tomatoes. Loved the latest video. Thank you. Cheers Noeline.😊
Thanks Noeline. We like the idea of Marigolds! 🌼🍅🇵🇹😊❤️
Good morning Newby Family! I was so excited to see you uploaded a video. I am in Florida visiting my 37 yr old daughter. I had to the North East today. Your filming has become amazing. Thank you for bringing us such great content! You can buy apple chips to put on your tape measure for $5.00 and locate it by your phone!😊🙏🙏🙏Blessings
Good morning Laura. We do hope you enjoy your time with your daughter. So special. Thanks so much for watching friend, we are so appreciate of your support 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
@@TheNewbys I don’t know if you saw that I suggested you buy the apple tags about $5.00 a piece to track your tape measures from lil Curoso by using your phone to find them!😊
John and Tara you both have amazing ideas about your farm. Tara the idea of allowing neighbours sheep to graze on your land is a win win situation. I can see in a couple years your orchard will be in abundance. Proving crusoe doesn't devour then all 🤣. When Sawyer is older crusoe will show him the ropes., then you will have two little helpers. Thankyou for sharing your beautiful family and farm renovation. 💚
It is indeed a win win situation Sheila but I think both Crusoe and Sawyer will make sure to taste every single fruit and vegetable on the farm 😂 we always love hearing from you and reading your comments friend. Sending you lots of love ❤️❤️❤️
Wow! The early morning light & birdsong in first few minutes was stunning! Can’t wait to see your finished Newbyld kitchen 👌
Thanks so much Siobhan 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
you're thinking British with regards to growing seasons. I mentioned to you about Make Do Grow who are also in Portugal. They are planting stuff right now, so you might want to pop over and look so you can get a few bits going. In a previous vlog they mention HugelKulture which you also might find interesting. Your carpentry skills are so good. It is also time to buy Crusoe a tool kit of his own and you to buy a box with a combination padlock on it lol.
Thanks Tracy, we are so appreciate of your support 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
This is so fun and I love the fact that you let Crusoe get involved in everything that's amazing he's going to have the best upbringing these are memories for life 🤗❤️❤️❤️ and thank you guys so much for sharing it with all of us I'm sitting here in Fresno California at 5:00 in the morning and you guys made my morning so thank you 😁👍✌️😎🇺🇸
Thank you for spending your morning with us Bill, our little Crusoe absolutely loves helping out with all the projects. Sending you lots of love to California ❤️❤️❤️
What an expansive episode.
Loved the early morning photography. Magical.
Crusoe The Investigator continued to discover the most astounding things. Measuring leaves, making waves in puddles, how to fix a sink. And how to build his own secret tool kit. (It will be sooo useful for him ... and daddy ..... when he remembers where his tool stashes are!) His daddy sharing the joy of discovery was an absolute pleasure to witness.
Tara I suggest that you have a variety of heights if you go with raised beds. Sometimes you will need to dig deep, at which stage you discover it would have been better to have used a ground level garden bed. There are highly functional timber potato box designs that dismantle when it comes to harvesting potatoes. Beats digging for them! And gives John more timber projects. Nothing is nicer than eating your own baby potatoes! Mix up your plantings to reduce losses to insects, birds and animals, ie very few mono crop beds. Make sure you intersperse lots of bee attracting plants in and around your garden to support pollination all year. Also have a few black plastic locking lid bins by the beds to brew your own plant teas, eg manure, comfrey, seaweed and seedless weeds are all brilliant. Locking lids will keep the boys safe. You will need a tool shed (nothing worse than moving a wheelbarrow and your tools up and down the hill every few days) and a compost zone. I cannot recall his channel, but a fella on the Isle of ? has some excellent hints. I have tried his tomato growing hint, very very closely planting, pruning each plant to a single stem, run each plant up a string, for big harvests ..... and it worked a charm. Also plan for summer heat. Some produce will be lost/ungrowable due to sunburn and bolting. I grow my greens near my kitchen door in a few planters that slide, so I can keep them out of direct hot summer sun. My thriving mint, parsley, sweet basil and lemon balm plants are grown in bright pots near the kitchen door, so I can easily snip off leaves, whilst keeping all but the basil in shade. I think you will have fun designing your garden - sounds like you have already put a lot of thought into it.
Thank you Verandah, we appreciate your advice and suggestions! Sending you lots of love 🥕🥔🇵🇹😊❤️
In all the despair and things meaning it was adorable watching the cute smart active little dude excited in all his many doing ...kkkk...so happy and so adorable cute, but also I loved how you mom and dad reacted calmly and always positive in all the many challenging events...loved it ❤
Thanks Ilona! Great to hear from you friend, its been quite a week! Thanks so much for watching and taking this journey with us, your support is so very much appreciated! 👍🙏🇵🇹🏡
You both have so much patience you never take the easy option, your both amazing and your little apprentice Crusoe well he’s going to have so much knowledge in the building game . Love you all so much look forward to the next video xxx
Thanks so much for watching Christine 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
I look forward to visiting with you every Sunday morning. You are such a loving family. Crusoe reminds me so much of my brothers Keith and Wayne. They followed our dad around. Dad was a mason/carpenter. Like Crusoe, they watched, imitated and learned. Today, my brothers are very talented builders, known for their incredible craftsmanship. Dad's legacy lives on. ** Have you considered building Crusoe his own little toolbox, filled with his own tools?
Sounds like Crusoe is just like your brothers Rhonda! We have thought about something like that, hopefully we can do something like that for him 😊🙏🏼❤️
We should all follow Crusoe’s example- pausing to jump in the puddles and savor life. It’s so sad that as adults, some of us ( myself) forget to do that. Thank you for reminding me of what’s really important Crusoe.
You are quite right Blake, we need to enjoy every moment in life! Thanks so much for watching friend, we are so appreciate of your support 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
Big hugs of warmth and protection from Fafe.
Thanks so much Andrew 😊🙏🏼❤️
Hi Tara and John we have been watching your journey for awhile now and wish you every blessing and success in your adventure.
just on the permaculture garden. We set up a permaculture garden on our last property 4 acres and we used Linda Woodrow's mandella design garden.
She sets out the garden with round mandellas and uses a chook tractor to fertilize. At the end of the growing season in each mandella she releases the chooks
to dig and fertilize the garden. The chooks or fowls also eat all of the bugs and then the madella is ready to plant out.
We used some of her methods but located our chook run in the middle of the garden and rotated the chooks around each bed after we harvested the last of the veges.
It worked really well. Good luck with your endeavours its so much fun.
Hi Jeanette, thanks so much friend. We appreciate you sharing your advice with us! Sounds like a great idea 🐔🥕🥔🇵🇹😊❤️
Mucking around in the mud. What a joyful boy that Crusoe❤️💕
❤️❤️❤️
I’m a fan of the no dig method. I developed a small herb potager last year and it was quite productive with little to no weeds. I enclosed the area with foraged stones and placed cardboard down and then organic soil and compost. I used smaller stones and foraged bricks to delineate my herb patches. I have used the same method for a flower garden. I was able to establish a garden very quickly. The key with flowers is to place the cardboard around the plant planted into the soil. Now in my second year, I continue to build up the soil bed. It was a good solution for the environment but also because I have rock underneath about eight inches of soil. You might check out The Elliott homestead UA-cam channel. Their large market garden feeds their family and they used the no dig method.
Sounds incredible Grace, definitely something we want to do 🥕🥔🇵🇹😊❤️
Hi. I love watching your renovations. I'm so glad you didn't put your fridge beside the boiler! Smart move. You're both doing a great job. xx
Thanks so much Hazel 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
haha Crusoe reminds me of my youngest son when he was young, no fears, always on the go.. miss those times
Thanks so much for watching Els 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
Bless 🙌 your beautiful amazing neighbours ❤ thank you so much for sharing your water 💧 with this family on there journey.
We have the best neighbours friend! So lucky ❤️❤️❤️
I kept thinking... get a string and cut it to the measurement of the window and that will be your guide 😜
Not so easy with kids around, but definitely so rewarding. Beautiful children.
Thanks so much for watching Susana 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
Aah! The small joy's with a muddy puddle! 🥰 It is true, when the kids suddenley goe's quiet, they're up to something! 😅 My mum always said, that when me and my sister was playing, arguing, singing and talking, she always knew we where ok. But,when we got quiet, she would shout to us: "What are you doing??" And,if we said for example: "we are playing with ..." (a spesifique toy) she knew we where ok. But if we answered: "NOTHING!" 😁 She would come running,to stop us from doing something we shouldn't be doing!😅😂
Hi Marita, what a lovely story friend! Brilliant! Great to hear from you, thanks for watching. 👍❤️🙏
As always watching your beautiful life in Portugal id amazing. John you are so patient with fixing things. The sink, muddy little man and see your tape measure was your reward. What more can one ask for. All joking aside you are a remarkable young man, my husband now 80 was just like you, always fixing something. With 4 children we could not afford proffessional, so he would tackle it all. Love watching your beautiful life and family. Thank you for sharing. Always Donna from Brookfield Ma. USA
Thanks so much for watching Donna, we are so appreciate of your support friend 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
Crusoe’s enjoyment of the puddles was the cutest! He’s one happy little guy 😍 I can’t wait to see your kitchen for £500
Thanks Ally 😊🙏🏼❤️
Hi, there Newsby. Good morning! Great go!I have a little question in observing you building your beautiful cabinets for your built in oven... Did you remember to place a few venting holes in the back for of the cabinet for venting your oven? It needs it. If you didn't, perhaps you could make a line of vertical holes or slats into the left wall opening towards the boiler space. Your cabinet fits very snug around the edges, a great job!
Good morning Eonia, John did make sure that there was ventilation behind the oven. Thanks so much for watching friend 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
Great cinematography. The farm is looking great (love the lawn - definitely the right call), and watching Crusoe in the puddle slow-mo was great. Fun to watch the projects come together too. And John - I probably own 10 tape measures and it's still not enough....I'm lucky to find one, and I don't have a toddler measuring leaf piles to blame....
Thank you Stew, seems like we will also need to own a couple of tape measures 😊❤️🙏🏼🇵🇹
At last i got the time to watch my favourite people in Portugal! Its all coming along nicely and hopefully you will be in by next Sunday? Keep smiling friends. Xxx
Thank you Mary! Sorry for the slow reply friend, it’s been a very busy week!! ❤️👍🤗
Of all the properties we see on Utube from Portugal your’s is the prettiest! Great job on the oven.

Those morning views take
away the renovation blues,
don't they? 🌄 What a great
job on the oven cabinet! 👍
It won't be long before you

The weather in Malibu is
lovely at the moment too,
the beach is so calming!
Sending you lots of love,
too, My Friends! 🤗💚⛱️
Asliding shelf next to the oven is so practical. Imagine bringing a big heavy plate of lasagna and having to open the hot oven door while holding the lasagna with one hand...not safe. That's what I have in my camping car and I love it. Thanks
Great idea, thanks Sylvia 😊🙏🏼🏡❤️
Oh, I missed this on Sunday as I was driving home from visiting my nephew and his new son! 7lbs 9oz. What a gorgeous boy. I hope that John will consider buying a wet-dry vac so he can vac up all the dust and not sweep it. He'll ruin his lungs! Have a great week.
Thanks so much Merry, we will definitely look into a wet-dry vac. Great to hear from you friend, we are so grateful for your constant support!❤️❤️❤️
Good morning from the beautiful Cascade Mountains of Washington State. I have finally caught up on you magnificent videos and have decided to become a Paetron. You have shown me parts of God's country that I have longed to visit. My family and our friends on our prayer team are praying for your progress and protection as you make a home for the boys. God bless you.
Hi Terre, thank you so much for your support friend. It means more than the world to us ❤️❤️❤️
Maybe you should get Crusoe his own set of kiddy tools and tool box. This might encourage him to put his tools back in his tool box. Then he can get his tool to help dad or mom. Love following you all on UA-cam. Rikki from Texas.
Thanks Rikki, that is a great idea! I am sure he would love that. Great to hear from you friend, we are so grateful for your support! ❤️❤️❤️
Great how you are letting Crusoe discover adventures. And more importantly the tape measure was found.
Thanks David! Yes, phew the tape measure was found, on to the next search, car keys, hard drives etc!! 😂😂 Great to hear from you, thanks for watching friend.
I like box gardens. Above ground. Build the size you want. Lay the gardeners cloth to keep weeds out and fill with soil. They look clean and uniform.
Great idea friend and I think we might be doing something like that somewhere down the line! Great to hear from you, thanks for watching. ❤️❤️🙏👍
