Green crabs would make good fertilizer. Crab meal is a thing for home gardens. You can also eliminate bag limits in areas they are not native, and use them for fish bait. Just a thought.
Depends on the area, but bag limits are not a thing for green crabs. In some areas such as Washington, you’re encouraged to report sightings but leave the crabs, because not all European green crabs are green, and native kelp crabs, shore crabs, and juveniles of larger crabs can look similar. However, you can keep and kill as many as you want, but the responsibility to identify them properly is on you, and if you’re wrong you will be fined.
I have seen them used for fish bate on charter boats in Niantic CT before. The fisherman literally cut them in half with scissors and put them on the hook. I caught several black fish with the crabs as bait this way. This was about 2 years ago.
Mhm That’s a great idea but it would have to be only males for bait to cut the chance of eggs getting out there All should be ground to pulp and dried and could probably be used for certain animal feeds as well

crab sticks/imitation crab (surimi) is actually made of fish, not crab. it's extremely impractical to process crabs in a way a product like that would be manufactured. look how small they are also, the amount of meat per crab is abysmal with these you really have to find them when they're moulted so you can eat them soft but like the video said.. their shells harden particularly fast, so this is also probably very impractical

I would guess ground crabs are high in nitrogen! place like the north west always has plenty of wood chips that could use some nitrogen for composting.....
First, they look like they’re perfectly edible … pretty much like “Maryland” Blue Crabs (steam in beer & cover with Bay Seasoning). Second, crustaceans of this type make excellent fertilizer (soil remediation) … much like Maine Lobster was once used. I get they’re “invasive” and destructive but … maybe when you’re up to your ass in alligators, you start making luggage … and stew and soup and … I’ll bet they could be a pretty good substitute for “Sludge”.
For people wanting to know. Its mainly bc the meat the green crabs have arent worth the trouble it takes to get it out. So they dont get as big. And they just arent as tasty as red rock, dungeness and alaskan king crabs. You can eat them. And they arent bad tasting. But if people are going to put in the work to catch, cook and eat them. They expect to have their meat be worth it as far as amount. And they just really arent worth the trouble. Plus, with how quickly they breed. They are taking all the spots, food etc for other crabs that actually do produce a good amount of meat that also tastes better. If we didnt kill as many green crabs as we do. They would take over and just out compete all the other “better crabs.” Bc the better crabs dont reproduce as quickly. I myself dont really eat fish and shellfish. Only fish i do eat is fish i catch myself out of one of my ponds which are either channel catfish or crappie bigger than your hands lol. And i rarely am in the mood for fish. The average size of the channel catfish in my ponds are 7lbs. And thats average. The bigger ones are roughly 20lbs. Myself, i have found the bigger the catfish the worse the meat tastes. So ill open my ponds up for people to fish every couple of years and let them take as many channels as they want to thin the big ones down. Then ill get a few tank loads of .5lb-2lb channels. To me, those are when they are at their best as far as meat tasting wise. And if your not big on fish that has that real fishy fishy taste and smell. Thats when you can get that kind of fish. I do also have a really big deep pond that is full of flatheads and blues. I think the biggest one is 70lbs. I dont even have to worry about ducks wrecking my ponds bc all the ducks are to scared to be in any of my ponds bc one pond has catfish big enough that will eat grown ducks. And yes i have seen it. Lol Everyone asks me how i can have my ponds like i do without having to have air filtration etc in them. And thats bc all my ponds are spring fed. And when my great grandpa dug them. He dug them in a way where all 4 ponds have waterfalls, and those waterfalls are constantly filling up the ponds with nice spring water. I do have air filtrations i will put in the water when we have dry spells and the water is really really warm though. But i havent had to use them in a few years.

Hi Steve, how is your day going? I didn't know about green crabs! Thanks for the interesting information! Catch you again next time!
This is the beginning of a waaagh of crabe for sure
What's the easiest way to catch crabs? Open a underwater Mustang Ranch. 😮
This is the first UA-cam video I've watched where I've noticed the like button gets highlighted when the narrator asks to 'drop a like'.
To witness for yourself, go to about 1:07 and watch!
turns out you can eat them. so just tell everyone that they're tasty
The reward can't be $5 per crab...
It seems they could be processed for animal feed or soil nutrients.
makes me think about the boarder
So that's the secret formula to the crabby pattie 😂
Are they eaten by halibut? Octopi? Are they preferred?
Do you take IOU's?
Just kidding, added a 👍.
after cooking they are good as others. in italy there are the blue crab
As commercial fisherman, green crabs are invasive from Europe
In my country that is not a problem..we cook them called "ginataan alimango" and very delicious
I never heard of these things before but my initial guess was that they were highly damaging invasive species. Seems that was right.
5 bucks a crab? that's a serious payday for a enterprising fisherman! also they would be great to grind up and add to compost in the areas where they are being fished! I would guess ground crabs are high in nitrogen! place like the north west always has plenty of wood chips that could use some nitrogen for composting.....
This won't be a problem anywhere in Asia as long as Sze Chuan sauce exists
green crabs be like
WITH THIS TREASURE I SUMMON
First, they look like they’re perfectly edible … pretty much like “Maryland” Blue Crabs (steam in beer & cover with Bay Seasoning).
Second, crustaceans of this type make excellent fertilizer (soil remediation) … much like Maine Lobster was once used.
I get they’re “invasive” and destructive but … maybe when you’re up to your ass in alligators, you start making luggage … and stew and soup and …
I’ll bet they could be a pretty good substitute for “Sludge”.
The inner geek is getting out. They are like the damn tyranids in 40K universe
Lol
Everyone asks me how i can have my ponds like i do without having to have air filtration etc in them.
You can use them as fertilizer
