The short Version = The perma Frost is melting and Releasing Gas pockets wich "explode" once the perma Frost Cap / lid gets weak enough to let the Gas (wich is under pressure ) Break thru the Former perma Frost layer that trapped the gas...
More likely is that the water turns into steam after getting super compressed by expanding methane and causes a chain reaction making other pockets of ice turn into steam until the whole area explodes. So, if it's steam then it's not exactly gas that explodes.
Hi Steve! Coffee was better than none, wasn't it? Sometimes you just have to tough it out! LOL life is tough! I sure hope you're having a good day! More great information, thank you for sharing! Catch you again!
Wait a minute! 🤔 Is this sorta like what happens when you get a grass bubble in your lawn? A grass bubble is a trapped pocket of water under the grass layer of your lawn. It can push the lawn upwards into a dome shape. Some grass bubbles contain methane gas from decomposing plants, but most are trapped water. They are most commonly found on even terrain, particularly golf courses. 😊
LOL I had a bunch of old timers cracking up and losing thier crap, I was ride mowing a golf course and it had this 20 foot long, 4 foot wide lump in it from water buildup. I took the Pulaski out at the start and punctured a hole in the lump, then started ride mowing. As I got closer it started pushing the water out the hole through the sod and gushing everywhere, and I was yelling at the top of my lungs, 'HOOOOOOOO YEAHHHH MAKE ME SQUIIIIRT'. 6 older guys were cracking up and they had that 'one friend' shaking his head not entertained at all. Which made it even funnier. They looked pretty bored before that lol, I started cracking up just from them cracking up.
I know how the big hole is made, we got a few of those here in Canada. A place called the Larose forest. Its a forrest in the middle of farmland. Kinda close to the city of Ottawa. Despite the area around being filled with farms, no one want to farm or develop the forest itself despite being rich black dirt, one of the most fertile soil on earth. Why? Its because its too dangerous: There are underground rivers all over the area of the forest and the underground soil is all clay. The only thing holding the ground from collapsing into on massive hole is the forest itself. Some fools built a road through the forest at one point and then one day, as a small pickup truck was passing on the road, the ground gave in and the truck fell down 80 feet deep and was a huge part of the road that collapsed. By some miracle, the driver survived. But the road was closest down since. There is no permafrost in the area. But because of the underground rivers constantly shifting the ground and of the fact its a forest, it didn't take very long for the hole to be reclaimed by nature and not be visible anymore.
Hey upstairs neighbor! Thanks for the information. At the beginning of this video, I was curious if other arctic circle/antarctic (hopefully not yet) circle regions were getting this effect to the same degree. And, if not, why? Age/Total land area/Carbon concentration?
TLDR at the end. Been brewing my own coffee for about half a year with the pour over style, I even grind up beans. Pretty good coffee ngl, it's satisfying grinding the beans and brewing the coffee. Been doing a mix of dark roast bean and medium dark roast bean. I don't have some advanced water pourer specifically for coffee, just a kettle and the coffee pot and mesh. Grinding whole beans probably makes a difference, and if you didn't know all coffee grounds sold are allowed to have some bug stuff in your coffee. Unless wrong, or changed from 2022, up to 10% being bug is acceptable, think about that. If the only problem is that your machines water is too hot, then pour over may be the thing you never knew you needed. TLDR: Try looking up pour over coffee. if you want to easily brew your own coffee, pour over is a simple method to start.
It's definitely something to do with ground water. Like a sinkhole but explosive instead of implosive. The melting and thawing of permafrost and larger pools of ground water are expanding and shrinking again making the subterranean caves larger. Then they disturbed natural gas viens. After a few more years of pressure building it pops.
I love your videos, they became neater and based on more research, I love that. If you can convert the units from feet to meter considering and so on. you have fans all over the globe
The massive sloughing of the surface, is following a natural gas/methane "vein" Like the Pennsylvania coal mine that caught on fire, and now continuing to burn out the entire coal veins, and moving and expanding until the whole area of coal is burned out, ... this natural gas and methane gas vein will continue to explode, evaporate, melt the permafrost, and slough out the former frozen gas vein. It will continue until the whole area has its gas vein removed.
The thumbnail looks like a giant... well, never mind. Back in the 90s the folds of roast beef in a picture of an Arby's roast beef sandwich in one of their ads looked like a "well, never mind" too. I also see by the comments that I'm not the only one with "well, never mind" on my mind (LOL).
I forget the comedian's name, but many years ago I saw a video of this guy saying that "well, never mind" after a certain act, looked like a grilled cheese sandwich turned sideways, looking at the edge. The audience both groaned and laughed. He said oh, not funny enough for you? You will NEVER forget this joke, or see a grilled cheese sandwich the same way again. Damn, if he wasn't right.

Hydrocarbons trapped in the rock from the last full eruption leaves lots of compressed gas that was cooled too quickly by the "normal" environment.

Important note: When we industrially trap CO2, we do trap 2 oxygen atoms with each carbon atom. That's not how it works in natural CO2 cycle through plant photosynthesis. In other words, infinitely long process of trapping CO2 will not result in permanent removal of that little CO2 in atmosphere as we keep adding it together with all life in nature and many natural chemical processes. But it will result in actual reduction of O2 in atmosphere, and we are not replenishing that.
It’s also being released in little amounts all throughout the millions of square mile of permafrost…all of which is still but a trickle compared to what happens when the warming reaches a tipping point and the permafrost melts out the top 30 feet or so that doesn’t refreeze.
Actually, these crators look like sink holes. Dig out the hole, as much as the length of the drop, they will most likely find very old volcanic made caves. Pressure building up from other sink holes, and gas build up, is what is most likely whats exploding new ones. Think of it like safety bubble wrap. Push on one, it sinks but doesn't pop, but you can feel the other bubbles in the line get much harder. Eventually, one will pop if you press down on several in a row.
Methane traps significantly more heat per molecule than carbon dioxide. When permafrost thaws, microbes decompose organic matter, releasing both methane and carbon dioxide, but the methane has a greater warming effect.
Thankfully they don’t occur in populated areas that would be a horrific thought I didn’t agree and consent to that. Being claustrophobic for the fear of heights the thought of being swallowed up by a ginormous sinkhole due to melting permafrost is truly terrifying
