Can’t wait til you do Saffron City and we get to witness the horrors of trying to survey the employees of a labyrinthine office building full of teleportation tiles.
In case it ever comes up in future surveys involving Team Rocket, illegal income is still subject to federal income tax and is required to be reported as income for tax purposes (although the 5th Amendment means you don't have to report what the specific illegal activities were, just that the money was obtained illegally), so individuals working in a criminal organization are technically employed.
"Of course, that's always going to get us at the Bureau quite tickled. uh...sorry" I didn't think it was possible for even a fictional press conference to make me laugh
I would argue the lady with the Gloom is actually employed. She seems to be trying to direct you to where the handmade goods for sale are, which would make her something like those sign spinners pizza places employ in the summer. ETA: I just realized how brain-breakingly hard it would be to try to do a direct survey of Castelia City in Unova. Thankfully you have four regions to enumerate before you'd get there.
I actually tried to do it for fun in W2 and gave up incredibly fast. Not only are there tons of office buildings full of NPCs (many of those buildings having multiple floors), zubat infested sewers which are never completely accessible thanks to the changing water level between seasons, forcing you to change your DS's date to reach all the NPCs (on top of using dozens of repels to avoid getting attacked by a bat every 5 steps), but there's also huge waves of salary men and women speed walking through the main streets, none of whom can be stopped or talked to. They'll just speed right by you with a "sorry!" if you get in front of em cuz they're rushing to get to work. There's no end to them, and they make the total population of this city uncountable, but it's easily in the hundreds. But that also means the employment rate is likely incredibly high, which makes sense since it's a huge fast paced capitol. Most of the population is probably young people who've moved there for work, along with a few retired Castelians and some kids. I'd assume most of the people not originally from Castelia move back to their home town (or a different town) after retirement, or even after having kids for the sake of the kids growing up in a more peaceful environment. This also points to a very high-stress work culture and lifestyle in Castelia city, but going into that could be a whole separate essay. I'm also not sure which of the people on the docks or in the cruise ships would count towards the total population, since you can't really tell which ones are tourists and which are living in Castelia. I also believe you can't actually talk to all the passengers each trip because of a time limit, and the trainers change with each trip too, though I might be misremembering this one. TLDR: It's impossible to get an even close to accurate percentage on the employment rate of Castelia city, but it'd be fun to watch someone go insane as they try to count the endless waves of people. Maybe he could count the NPCs on screen per second and then multiply that by the typical 9 to 5 or something, though I bet many of the employed Castelians work even longer hours or work nights.

Only 43 views so far? You're gonna blow up soon man. I just know you can do it!
Yeah, I believe in this small UA-camr. He can get views someday.
He's already at 9/11 views he's certainly blowing up
Did you even check the sub count before commenting? Or do you just comment this on every video you get suggested with less than 100 views
@@Joseph_D_Mama I believe this is what you call "a meme comment", not a serious inquiry.
@@TheBreadPirate shittt, I’m pretty gullible so I’m guessing you’re right lol. Comment retracted
Thanks for this Austin. Glad we are doing the work to learn more about our economy.
When are people gonna figure out that Pokémon battling IS the economy?
I love Austin's definition of "people who buy stuff": Or you work or you leech of your partner.
LMAO
genuinely one of my favorite series on UA-cam right now. Please continue lol
7:31 you really made me cry during a direct survey. Thanks, Austin
i'm a simple sleepy guy. i see any austin unemployment survey video, i hit play so fast the sound barrier is shattered and i can't hear anything for the rest of the video
Oh good, I've been binge watching Eggbusters and was running out of videos to watch. Thanks for these
Got here through recommended and the Gym Leader Larry energy is so on point.
This series is honestly fantastic - i'm becoming an unironic bureau of labour statistics stan
I love your tone delivery during the press conference. It's very press conference-y
it's always a good day whenever i see Austin and his hair clips in my subscription feed
These are great! Please keep doing these unemployment surveys!
I wouldn't have called you crazy if you said this would be my favorite series because your first unemployment survey was what got me into watching you. I thought it was a neat concept and I was right. These are so comfy to watch, I swear. ❤
THIS IS THE HENTAI ARTIST ON STAFF
One of my favourite videos series ti frequent, with the handsome Austin to watch alongside it 😊
I wish i understood why this series hits so good but im just happy to be here
6:49 that’s actually ¥10,000. Just under $70.
Just over $90 with the 1996 exchange rate
23:12
His soul left his body for a second
Please keep making these
You forgot the guy at the top of the building with the Gamefreak headquarters that is accessible through the back door and there is 4 people in the building next to the casino
I like to imagine that the dude gossipping about the game corner's secret floors is actually just a contractor or something that they hired to help build it all out.
Love these videos, I’m going to start commenting about it more often. You’re one of the funniest people on UA-cam imo
straight up, i literally sent the playlist to someone today calling it my new favorite youtube series
"This is a big place with big people" God damn dude I love you so much
Love the enumerator content! Please keep it!
this video was particularly funny, keep up the good work!
Great series! Genuinely good stuff to think about for worldbuilding, just makin' the world feel lived-in. Obvs that'll vary depending on the world and how internally-consistent you want it to be within your other goals, but it's a fun thing to consider.
I was having a stressful day but then I saw your notification and now I'm so happy to chill here, thank you
Excellent video and survey, as always.
My compliments to yourself and the esteemed Bureau.
Kinda wild that Niantic puts the anti-suicide fences in the game
UA-cam was missing its purpose till you made this series! Thank you!
Nothing quite like a direct survey to start the weekend
I need to give you the context that the old man in the curry restaurant (14:30) is wearing traditional Japanese clothing. It looks like a men's kimono. Also Japan has a decent history of their own curry culture at this point. I greatly enjoy these videos, just wanted to give you some cultural context! Keep up the great work.
The woman at 2:16 I was expecting to be employed. it seemed like she was trying to beckon you to the 5th floor, acting as an advertiser for the handmade accessories.
That or she makes them
Celadon City always seemed like one of the more realistic towns in Gen 1.
you taught your eevee cut. can't believe it
1:21 "This is my trusted Pal"
You're in the wrong game, dude. That's clearly a Pokémon.
Nintendo in their evil corporate labs: Just you wait
Finally, a Palworld reference that's actually funny
Wait I just started rewatching the other Kanto videos like 2 hours ago, did you upload this just to make sure I had a good day?
A little sexist that you assumed the first girl was only shopping for Handmade Pokemon accessories. Clearly she owns the shop and is trying to advertise her own business.
Agreed in hindsight
