Similar models are ST-4700, ST-4703, ST-5800, ST-9000, ST-9001 found in the Tiagra, 105, Ultegra and Dura-Ace groupsets.
Symptoms of cable failure are gradual, include chain not changing gears on cassette when shifter is operated, derailleur not moving at all when shifter is operated. Braking is totally unaffected.

My rear derailleur cable did this on my last 40 mile ride…..shifting had become erratic and it finally gave up. It had been awhile since I’d done one of these. Thanks to your video I went ahead and did all four cables just in case. Thank you, great video.
Used this video yesterday, saved me loads of time thank you! I needed to remove the lower piece of plastic too to get the broken cable head out.
Excellent video - just the detail I need. Thank you so much.
ok not much new here except one key piece for me. The finger nail pull back of the flap without removing it starting at 6:10. Man, that saved me so much effort and time.
Thanks, mate. I just found your video and resolved my problem exactly as you've demonstrated. You've saved me an expensive trip to a bike shop. Top bloke :)
You're welcome!
Woooooooow save me lot of money two shops told me I needed new shifters. I remove the boat like suggested in the video in the old cable was still there. Oh my God thank you for this video.
Glad it helped!
Excellent! You are a lifesaver, i managed to get that broken cable head out thanks to this video. Many thanks!

Thanks so much got it fixed
My screw has rusted, i cant open that bottom panel. Any tips? Great video
Oil? + patience ... awww ... it's a tricky one. Just don't butcher it, you need all the metal remaining in the screw head to turn that thing, eventually ...
Here is the next video to show to set tension?
Great video, Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Very good thanks.
Good
ALR is not a carbon frame
Ah but now I have removed the broken end of the cable - like yours - from underneath, but the ratchet wheel will not turn.
Ouch. Keep looking, a bit of broken wire strand is stopping it.
@@theoverengineer I found the problem! The rubber hood cover was contacting one of the ratchet pawls and stopping the wheel turning - because I had removed the round plastic cover underneath to get the broken end out. Thanks again for the excellent video.
I had the same problem. Turns out the rubber hood needs to be flipped back for it to work! Thanks to my friendly LBS!
Excellent video but man get yourself a workstand! I cringed when you turned that bike upside down.
(Was done at friend's place, I only carried the tools I needed. And camera)
Too slow, not requiring such a long video.
I know, was too lazy to edit raw footage down. Thanks for visiting!
Great job many Thanks
