One of the greatest openings ever. Possibly the greatest. I love the voice over of Willard. Almost has a film-noir feel to it.
When you are unemployed but you know a friend is going to find you a job in a couple of months.
"Saigon Shit"! .Incredible Realistic Acting from Martin Sheen. Who had a total Nervous Breakdown shot Live on Camera !
God I miss real movies.
That opening scene with the sound of Huey rotors flying overhead reminds me of Ft. Wainwright 80-82,when 222 aviation battalion would fly right over the row of barrack's at -50degrees F! Sounded like a M60 barking,at those frigid temps!
One way to appreciate a movie is to just listen to the audio. See what images come back to you. If you can watch a movie just from the audio, it's a good movie.
Whenever I see this scene of Martin Sheen, totally drunk, method acting in front of Coppola's cameras, I think, "Well, he wasn't so far gone to forget to cover himself with the sheet." - Right or wrong, I always think that.
Natural reaction to cover yourself. There are different levels of drunkeness.
He had a total personal nervous breakdown live on camera, incredible Acting !
personally, i see the characters and not the actors. i truly feel sorry for the 'sane'.
Can clearly see his dong
same thing happened to me during the covid pandemic in my apartment 🤔
😂
What pandemic?
I don't mind being closed, don't like go out tòo much, I'm out only if it'ts for shopping or visit to the doc, throw out the garbage, othrerwise I'm always home.
Lol hilarious
Hardly the only one😂
Can’t stop thinking about Malevelon Creek
"i wanted a mission, and for my sins...they gave me one"
And I’d never want another…
Probably my favorite scene of the movie
There had never been an opening scene like it and never would again
They’re gonna make it be a major for this one
me after the dentist
Sometimes, the most memorable movie scenes are filmed when the actor is totally drunk.
"Someday this wars gonna end....that would be just fine with the boys on the boat. They weren't looking for anything more than a way home. Thing is I'd been back there, and i knew it just didnt exist anymore"
Amazing film. Always loved it.
I am NOT paying that incidentals bill.
Retired from teaching, wall don't move on me. Bing not being haunted as a greatest blessing Buddha could bring me, in he does. That character is gonna get a mission can't refuse
Me waiting to get picked up in Switzerland. Oh shit everything I have is right. I’m probably going to jail.
The more you think about It the more you realize the lieutenant was being tortured by the CIA agent as his handler to be "readied" for this mission mentally. Like when the mission was Delivered he made a strong emphasis with the few words he said
hmmmm
He’s a captain. And more like Willards mental state has made him less than ideal for the higher ups until the Kurtz situation happened, making him the perfect candidate.
Wow, that "chop chop chop" is sooo chopper
The greatest war film ever made... Its hard to explain how good and fucked up this film is... Masterpiece
And the end of the most beautiful Story.... SOMEONE hat sich überzogen....
this is madness and theater, and I can testify that this is ... real
At the end it's real booze, real blood and real tears.
this is so fucking sad to watch especially how this could actually happen to veterans
I knew three Canadians that volunteered for Vietnam through the US Army. ALL were alcoholics long, long before Vietnam, but the war gave them cache to wear it well. A great percentage of my LA junior college were Vets, married, getting on with their life. Met a few that did two tours and LOVED the whole war and guns thing. Met a few criminals as well in SF that it was a good experience for them. Platoon is a more realistic film of war on the ground as far as I'm concerned. Hard to rate these two films as they speak a language we all lost.
Still in Saigon..
How many movies start off with the lines "Saigon- Shit." Let's you know what you're in for, really.
Jungle war is when you only work with five men so do not tell stories of horror of friends you forgot on battle
PTSD ahead of its time lol
Love it
Only God damn beach break 🇺🇸💀🇻🇳
why do I watch this movie to fall asleep?
Se circuncido?
Literraly me
Sheen was high on drugs when he did the karate routine and punched the mirror.
He was drunk, not high.
@@garretthberne3035 alcohol is a drug, same thing.
@@TehSpury then anything is a drug by that logic.
@@TehSpury You don't get high from drinking alchohol. You get drunk. There is a semantical difference, even in common vernacular.
you mean Captain Willard I guess

What do you do after shooting a deer? Your blood yourself with the deer is blood all over you. Now we see this character blooding himself. What are you readers? Couch chair potatos. Get out in the forest and kill something before it finds you. Load yourself with the kill and don't come home oh washed up and clean.
