honnestly for a character like that its absolutely incredible that he takes the time to take care of civillians
I think it has to do something with human nature. You can geniunely care about a stranded family in front of you, but at the moments notice you rain literal fire and brimstone on your enemies.
Whoosh. The entire scene is about mass murder. The injured child scene was a genius move to show how deranged Kilgore was. Save the kid but reminisce about slaughtering 'stinkin' dinks'
'Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell? The whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end'
War IS about mass murder. @@ArthurDentZaphodBeeb
Its just an excuse. Even Willard said so.
so what ?
you wanne say the us army was not supossed to fight the vietcong?

Absolutely fantastic movie. The music and the actors really brought it! Great movie!
What an incredible movie and acting, he doesn't even flinch with the explosions going on around him. incredible
Luv how he doesn't flinch when the bombs explode, smells like victory, and then they took his board, lol
Eh. It was acting. A real person would duck. Are you for real?
@@jimmymcjimmyvich9052 I know, but it's still Kool
@@jimmymcjimmyvich9052 Patton didn't flinch. MacArthur didn't flinch. Chesty Puller didn't flinch. In real life, when they were on the front lines. As said, so to speak, in this movie, there are those that know they will not get a scratch.
One of the best films ever made.
In real life when that detonation went off... he didn’t even flinch.
Duvall is clearly one of the best actors of his era and maybe ever. He could do it all, whether badass or tenderhearted. One of my all time favorites... Check out Second Hand Lions for an entirely different sort of role but just as well acted. That movie is another of my favorites...
One of the top 3 war films ever made IMHO. So well written and acted. Terrific photography. And done BEFORE there was CG!!
Details....when the Vietnamese old woman approaches the Col with a baby....they don''t smack the old woman or shoot her and the baby (as would happen in some airhead type war film...low budget"....Col "Duvall" has the baby and old woman taken to safety. Well done. Small things...
Would have loved for the same people to have made the movie today....releasing AN on 4k Bluray with a Dolby Atmos track....reference qulity.....
It isn't really a war film though, war isn't its main focus. Its more about morality and philosophy of human nature, a journey into deepest corners of human soul.
Crazy this is the same man that played Tom Hagen. Incredible actor.
Sublime iconic film excellent cast WILL NEVER BE MADE AGAIN AS NOONE HAS THE GUTS OR BRAINS TO MAKE A MOVIE LIKE THIS ANYMORE
Crazy... but endearing how he takes the time to make sure the mom and kid get rescued.
"Just give me back the board, Lance. It was a good board and I like it. You know how hard it is to find a board you like."
For some reason I always laugh when I see him slap that guy's rifle in the beginning of this scene.
That should be everyone's reaction when somebody flags them with a weapon. The way the guy says sorry I would assume it was unintentional and not part of the script, but left in.
Robert Duvall is amazing. He is always a scene stealer.
can not believe Robert Duvall was ever this young .the man is one of the best actors ever .. out ... P.S. love the smell of gunpowder in the morning !!!😁
Напалма по утрам
Napalm not gunpowder... you poor soul... 😂😅😂
"Some Day This War Is Gonna End"
With what I feel like is an unspoken phrase that's attached to it, "What will you be left with then."
someday this war will end...sad face
It was deliberately vague. He kind of grimaces and smiles.
It's hard to see whether it upsets or cheers him.
Gives me chills when he says (smells like victory)
What a masterpiece of cinema
A lot of Vietnam war era movies were shot in the Philippines, because of similar terrain, climate and plant life..
This was one of them..
The civil war cavlry officer hat is a great touch.
I want one
Apparently Duvall brought it with him when he flew out to start filming. He was really focused on nailing the character of Kilgore.
Robert Duvall makes a great super gung-ho military type. "The Great Santini" is another good one.
