- "Bring Your Enemies AGAIN" Class can include the philosophy behind my award-winning method, The Grid, which turned improvisation into a science. This way, when someone tells you, "you just don't have it," you can use this method to be able to improvise in less than 30 seconds after hearing a one-minute description of exactly what to do to prove that baseless claim wrong. Discussing this in the April 8 Class ought to be a lot of fun.

Professor of musical Mr. Mike Mangini
This video title drew me in instantly and simultaneously reminded me of all the many things your deep-thinking, envelope-pushing, truth-seeking, quirky-in-all-the-right-ways presentation of your material that have resonated fully with me of the years, and also how profoundly your artistry and the window into the magnificent musical mind of Mike Mangini you have gifted me has helped and inspired my own journey.Thank you.
The more videos you post, the more I want to take part in some classes. Gonna try book some spots in the group classes in the next weeks
Hi Mike the greatest
❤❤❤
the god of over the bar rhythms
Awesome Mike!
Fantastico come sempre
Hey. Just inspired my orchestra with your lectures. You are seriously inspiring. As a teacher myself I can never reach your standard in this life. Keep up the great work! And I’m glad I watched DT live. Greetings from Singapore.
He can’t be bargained with, he can’t be reasoned with, and he absolutely will not stop. He is the Drumminator.
Awesome...just awesome.
You da Man Mike!
Great Mike
Hi Mike!! I Love Portnoy, grew up on him. You leave nothing to be desired. Almost a seamless transition. I Love DT throughout all time. I am not saying you are "copying", your unique style is top notch with the new stuff and keeps the older songs alive. You are genius. And pretty damn FAST!! 🤪
Mr Mangini we hugely love you from India 🇮🇳
Excellent
Gracias

Isn't improvisation more of an art than a science?
artistic impro is more natural to us
@@mirzasalkic2617 science and methodical playing really isn't improvisation? Is it?
@@davidolson558 well, improvisation in science would benefit the scientific approach, not art
i mean, its 2 different things
THE UNIVERSALITY OF IMPROVISING
People are improvising all the time when they converse. There is no science that I know of for being an inventive and creative speaker. There is nothing I know of in recorded history to indicate that anyone ever used principles of science to improve the quality of their improvising. I mean 3 year olds can improvise simple but musically enjoyable songs at the piano (singing while playing) when left to their own devices, with no musical training whatsoever. Unfortunately most stop improvising after they are taught to spend most of their music-performance-learning time preparing to play or sing other people's music and rewarded for getting it "right".
SCIENCE?
I imagine the only science involved may be studies that show that the more improvising people do the better they become at it. This may be what was happening with Mangini's students, and nothing to do with his grid system, which could be restricting his students' creative possibilities when they're improvising.
EVIDENCE
"Scientific" evidence to support Mike's "grid" system could come from controlled studies of groups of students using it versus groups not using it but using an alternative, such as simply practicing improvising under their own devices and/or being asked by their teachers to improvise during regular lessons and to practice improvising between lessons . Double blind assessments could be done of recordings of each student in the study improvising under identical conditions.
AN EXAMPLE OF ANOTHER OPTION FOR MUSICIANS
Improvising at least one complete piece of music as the first thing you do at every practice session on your instrument, (be it voice, drum set, or anything else).
For music teachers: asking your students to do the same at the start of your lessons.

Where is your Drum Tech? Your drums seem to be a bit dusty 😂
“Improvisation can be an enemy”
Like in the beginning of this video 🤦🏻♂️
I think a lot of us were thinking this. Very surprised he published this video. That was quite a disjointed and unmusical solo. Might work excellently though as a drum corps (drums only) composition performed with some fancy marching.
Writing down a grid system what a great idea
