Just a couple of tips from a guy who used to race bikes, and almost went to the TT: When you feel or see the rear wheel backing it in, turn slightly opposite (into the direction you see the rear wheel going) and it will stabilize. You can brake when leaned in but it should be rear brake and very light, only use it to change your trajectory through the corner slightly. Also, when you brake hard, I've noticed you aren't pulling out of your tuck. Pulling out of the tuck while braking makes it easier to brake as the weight on the wheels are balanced, and the air pressure on your chest acts as a speed brake like what you'd see on fighter jets when they land. In real life it has the effect of taking some of the stress off your arms as in many cases you're pulling 2-3g's of forward acceleration under brake. Remember, you derive about 94% of your braking force from your front wheel, so having that Cg behind the front tire makes it feel more controllable.
Trail brake into the corner with the front, leave the rear alone. Sylvain Guintoli won the 2014 WSBK championship and didn't touch the rear brake once. The only people that really need to use rear brake are Moto GP riders.
A trick to use when you're riding a bike, when going around a corner pay attention to the road. If it looks like the road is getting closer, slow down, if it is the remains the same distance, maintain your speed, if it moves away, speed up. Should help with faster but also safe cornering.
As someone that has grown up around two wheeled racing that has gotten more into four wheeled racing due to your channel, I have much respect for the cross over as it is totally different! Thanks for being open minded and making me laugh as watching you improve is both funny and amazing.
great attempt, you're not as bad as you think you are. I'm a life long biker, father and grandfather both bikers, and believe me, I have no ambition to race the TT. I'm happy watching.
"It's like a dance through the corners" -Jimmer, 2018. As a motorcyclist I think that is the most beautiful thing I heard about riding a bike. Thanks for that. You already are learning how to dance quite well, so keep it up!
You really have to split the brakes ! You will be able to brake in turns ! Braking from front or back makes a huge difference on bikes "! "Front rise, rear dives" A bike is essentially a double "gyroscope" Heavy breaking from front will lock the direction ! You have to mind that constantly on a bike
On modern bikes the rear brake is pretty useless on track. btw the physics on this game are pretty ridiculous. Especially the weight transfer and traction loss.
I use both front and rear brakes for heavy braking, it feels better and helps to keep the bike stable (unless your bike has combined braking in which case it's not needed, i still do it because my bike is old and has no electronics :P)
He said he doesn't have it split because somebody told him that it isn't working right in the game. Other than that I'm with you, combined brakes is basically what we call braking assistance in car racing.
What you say about setting up things before getting to the corner, holds for real bikes too. Mostly because it is very hard to change direction once commited to a corner. Just two things change how hard you can turn: speed and lean angle (angle of contact patch to center of mass) (of course ignoring things like wheel slip). The dangerous part is of course going in a corner too hot, changing the lean angle to tighter for racers is usually not possible because they are already close to the maximum lean angle. Backing off the throttle on a bike shifts all the weight forward, so if you do this too abruptly it can overload the front tire making it break away, but more importantly it does the opposite of what you think. By putting more weight on the front tire it makes the bike stand up, making your turning radius larger, before the bike settles and the radius drops again. You often see these in crash videos where the biker panics when a turn is too tight, then closes the throttle abruptly making the bike stand up sending him straight into a guard rail or worse. The same is true for front brake. Using the rear brake a bit is possible, but too much can of course lose the rear end resulting in a low side (or if the rear brake is suddenly stopped and the wheel gains traction again, a high side). tldr; changing radius/direction on a motorcycle is very hard in a turn, thus setting a proper cornering speed (and entry point) is very important.
Love the fact that you've lent your time to this particularly difficult game. It took me 3 months to get close to Peter Hickman's 16:42 lap time. My best is 16:18 (flyingdogs) I challenge you to beat it jimbob!!
Great video jimma. I urge anyone that has never ridden a bike before to take a CBT.. it's about £100 and even if you never want to ride a bike again it's a great experience and day out. I love cars always have but you will never get the same feeling that you get from a bike in a car. Like this to get jimma to vlog himself doing a CBT lol.
Good effort Jimmy. The game is a difficult challenge when played like that. When your just starting to get the feeling that you know where going, Really delivers a sense of achievement.
That’s awesome man. Downloaded and played the game for 15 minutes and was incredibly frustrated, and I actually am a bike rider. It’d be nice if they had incorporated a rewind feature like Ride has. Wreck 2 or 3 times and there’s no hope of catching back up to the other racers. Your video makes me consider giving it another try but I’m gonna have to think on it. lol
its by the way not true that you have to brake in a straight line, the race drivers in real life often brake almost to the apex, but only as much as the tire can handle. its incredibly hard and you need to have a really good sense of whats going on. riding a bike on the edge cant be simulated by no means, its way more complex than a car.
The game looks very cool. Would be nice to try. That said, Nothing but respect for 'The Isle Of Man TT and all it's riders. Past, Present and Future.'.
I got the game nine days ago - I've never used the racing line, never used any HUD and I only play helmet cam. I can't get round without crashing but I do have a 18m:35s which I'm pretty pleased about. A brilliant, brilliant game
That was a good lap, don't be hard on yourself, I have only managed an 18 mins 20 secs on the faster bikes with medium assists while I learn the track. It's a great game and the challenge of learning the whole circuit so you know every corner and the perfect line will take 100's of laps. I find it addictive, always time for just one more lap!
Jimmy De'Souza stomped it down into first. Pretty much tip toe walked as I gave it a little gas and let the clutch out. Got my feet off the ground , panic ensued, hit a fence going 3 mph
salvador242 if I was you I'd definitely get a deeper look into bikes they are quite astonishing and handling one is nothing like people actually imagine it's like (for example, to turn left you turn the handlebars to the right, it's called countersteering and to understand how that works you have to really get into the physics of a bike and gyroscopes but it's fairly easy) plus the fact that a 25k dollar litre bike will out-accelerate even cars like the P1 or 918 Spyder until it hits redline in 6th and then the cars catch up due to higher top speed obv.
VtecGoesBwaahh bikes are insane. I've had one bad experience with one and never really got a chance to learn. I always want one on a nice day when I see people riding them. Maybe one day I'll buy a cheap dirt bike, fall a bunch and beat it shit to learn then buy myself something nice.
Your bike slides out like that because of the combined brake set up, if you put the front brake on a trigger and rear on a bumper (maybe turn down the pressure exponent for the rear if you can since it will be either full on or off) then you would be able to apply proper pressure front and rear, along with rider alignment.
Couldn't agree more, I've driven for 5 years but just started riding 5 months ago, I think jimmy unintentionally summed up everything I love about riding without having ever done it. I find riding can be so much more satisfying than driving, especially around corners, largely because of the points he made in this. Also great video, never seen this guy before but you nailed it from what sounds like little practice and whilst talking the entire time
Excellent stuff man, I also started riding a long time after driving. I think having experience of roads and all the useless drivers who use them helps ease the transition into riding a bike, as opposed to starting with no experience whatsoever.
People that don't ride motorcycles are insane. Top tip for life on planet Earth... Don't be insane (if you can help it, if not fuck it... If you ride bikes, you are probably ok)
TT riders use trail braking when entering a corner. Which is when you slowly let off the brakes as you lean into the corner. The further down you get the less you should be braking. At the point when you're fully leaned you should have no brakes on and be ready to roll on the throttle. I'm not very good at explaining but I tried.
Test Drive Unlimited is quite arcadey compared to what I've seen of this game (due to analog control actually making the bikes harder to ride vs keyboard in that particular incarnation of 'driving' powerfull bikes), whereas, without having played it, this game seems more like a graphically more impressive version of SuperBike 2002.
You can still brake while going through a corner on a bike. Its called trail-braking. Im not sure how well this game simulates this but it helps to keep the bike stable in a corner.
Not sure if you know Jimmy, but once the front comes up use rear brake to bring it back down. Do not go off the throttle, it will increase your time in those bumpy sections. Also, use split brakes haha!
Well done man, I was so excited for this game and I have never been so frustrated with a game ever lol unfortunately it’s being traded in for god of war
Ian Hutchinson crashed on the begining of the "mountain mile" last year. Who you saw on the documentary "Closer to the edge" was Conor Cummins low-side on the "Varanda". :)
A tip: Use more engine breaking and give your front tyre enough time to load before turning. Don't break and immediately turn. That's why you are coming off on fast corners.
I'd love the Isle of Man TT track to be an option in sim Car games like AC, it just looks like a great fun long-lap track challenge. Like the Nordschleife, only even more terrifying in VR...
Jimmy, you HAVE to seperate the brake controls. Your braking issue seems like your rear tyre is locking up. Even on light breaking. Either you find some setting akin to break balance in cars, or you may want to skip using the rear brakes entirely.
The 600cc wants to be ridden at high rpm, even in corners. Try being down a gear in the faster corners to keep the tires sticking and keep the rpms in the sweet spot.
If you want to put the best possible lap time down. You almost always want to use a super sport instead of a liter bike because of just how much better they handle. It’s almost night and day. Although I would have recommended using Yamaha, as they will out turn and out brake just about every other bike.
Really interesting to watch you learn the course over time and get used to the bike physics, get ready for the Sidecars because that'll be a whole new style to get used to! Also at Ballaugh you have to go over it 100% upright otherwise ripperino because you land slightly sideways.
Also interesting note is how I've noticed the game doesn't actually name all the corners, even some of the more notable ones such as Ballagarey at 3:22, hopefully the devs will add more later on, makes commentating and learning the track from scratch a bit awkward without it.
Well as a bike racer I was actually put off by people saying don’t get it but this vid without all the assists and the wheelies it looks rather realistic
Ride 2 is in no way more realistic than this. The bikes wheelie more in Ride for sure, but yeah. This game is more realistic. In Ride, you can just slam the brakes on (as long as you're upright) and you're going to fine, in the TT game, you cannot do that. There's also almost no engine braking in Ride, whereas there's a lot in this. The traction physics in the TT game are not right though, and Ride is a bit closer with that. Nonetheless, Ride is... easy going. I regularly do upper 6:30s on the Nurburgring on Ride 2, and I just could not go that fast on this game. My TT record is 17:42, and that was unbelievably difficult to do. A 6:30 nurburgring lap is not that difficult
"Pulling away in first gear, these bikes are Not Fast" That's because you don't have a clutch in the game. IRL you rev up to high range and ride the clutch out, since that's where all the torque is
I was at the isle of man TT this year and there was a challenge at a festival where you could play a section of the game on a honda 600 and try to get the fastest time. It startet a bit in front of the bungalow and ended after union mills. Best time there was 5:11 for the section. Maybe try that. If anyone was there as well what was your time??
Does anyone remember a few years back (maybe during the PS2 era) that you could get a motorbike peripheral that was similar to a steering wheel? Obviously it wasn't a steering wheel, it was handlebars with brake levers and a twist grip throttle that you'd mount on a table or a stand. I actually owned one for a bit, and it was.....alright. Sadly there weren't too many games to use it with though. It's a shame that you can't get anything like that anymore. There are so many options when it comes to steering wheel set ups for car games, but nothing when it comes to motorbikes. I guess motorbike games just aren't abundant (or popular) enough to warrant making things like that, but it would be cool if there was something similar these days. I hate racing bikes with a control pad lol. (and the sit-on Isle of Manx TT arcade machine was the best thing ever!)
Car's only work in two axes, X and Y. Motorcycles work in three, X, Y, and Z, just like an aeroplane. Riding a motorcycle is more like flying then driving. It's why when Japan could no longer make airplanes after WWII, they started making motorcycles.
11:12 there is so much about riding a motorbike competively which doesn't translate well to the virtual environment and I don't see how it could be done without some hybrid mechanical bull/full 6 degrees of freedom flight simulator setup in order to pull the experience off. Which is not to say SBK2002, on the PC, with a force feedback joystick, wasn't worth playing and attempting to get good at... and I would expect the same for this game The thing to take away is, instead of just doing it, one has to think about the appropiate action for the given situation.
lol jimmer, I actually have a trackworthy(ish) 600, and I can tell you, you REALLY need a back and front brake separation. Im basically on the back brake up into third just to take off properly, you also need it to settle the bike alot. for cornering the combined braking might sort of work, but as for real life riding, I'd fall off on a straight! thats literally how important it is. as to how you would manage all this on a controller, I have no idea :p. good luck!
Good effort Jimmy considering you're not a bike guy. You've got the basic idea in that preparation before the corner is 90% of it, and you can't really correct mid course. I'll take your word for it that the front and rear separation doesn't work properly, which is a shame, because it makes a big difference. You say you lean the guy forward during acceleration, do you lean backwards during braking? If not, you should try that too (if its correctly modeled, sitting up creates aero drag which is a decent part of braking especially at high speeds). Also, if its modelled correctly in game, you SHOULD be able to brake into corners a little bit. You start with heavy braking in a straight line, and then decrease the amount of brakes you use as you tip it over. If you get a chance, watch a bike racing video (like MotoGP) that has the actual brakes used by the rider showing on an overlay so you can see how much brake they actually use into the corner.
Seperate breaking and big bikes please. Assists don't really matter on 600's. And clean the hud boy. Body positioning is key. You're already gentle on the throttle and know the course pretty well. Fly on the Suter!
So many challenges on this course. I think you did well for your skill level. After racing on this track I'm sure nurburgring feels a bitter smaller Hey?
Really enjoyed this again Jimmy. It would be great if you upload a few more or do another stream so we can see your progress, as I think with more practise you will get very good at it and hopefully you will be able to do this on a Superbike.
Cause of crashing was stucked throttle according to informations and witnesses. When i first watched the video without knowing what caused crashing into the pub he seems like he was going waaaaay too fast for ballaugh bridge
Oh man, This feels super slow I run this on the BMW S1000RR I'm fine until almost the end of the lap when you get into the countryside I just crash everywhere haha nice video tho man.
Wonder how hard it would be for somebody with more skill than I to take this amazing 60+km track and port it into something interesting like assetto corsa or pcars2 (yea I know, no mods, but I can dream..) or MudRunner for all I care, something where we can put four wheels on the road. It almost feels like a waste this way, such an awesome track and not a car in sight.
You should try it in real life. Riding a bike is amazing. I'll be at Road America in two weeks on a liter bike. I just bought a new gopro for footage with gps data. Motorcycles are very inexpensive and depending on the tracks it can be quite cheap. I am doing a good 18 track days this year for 1k. You can't come close to that with a car. It's well worth trying and you would be surprised how much sim racing prepares you for a real track day. I found it odd how you stated you can't brake on a turn in this game. In reality you trail brake almost every fast turn on a bike.
You mentioned that you go down if you touch the brakes at all in a corner. That's actually not particularly true on a bike, sure if you slam one of the brakes a wheel will lock up and you'll go down.. But if you get on your rear brake in a corner (not too hard), you're fine. The rear tire grip and brake physics are terrible in this game.
I’ve said this before, but your knowledge of the TT Circuit is quite impressive considering how long and technical the course is.
Just a couple of tips from a guy who used to race bikes, and almost went to the TT:
When you feel or see the rear wheel backing it in, turn slightly opposite (into the direction you see the rear wheel going) and it will stabilize. Remember, you derive about 94% of your braking force from your front wheel, so having that Cg behind the front tire makes it feel more controllable.
A. I. You can brake while turning while trail braking as well
McLarenBMW how about u tell us what’s correct then ? I guess u can’t because there was nothing wrong YOU squid
Now can you explain that in idiot for the rest of us to understand. 🤣😌
Thank you!
Trail brake into the corner with the front, leave the rear alone. Sylvain Guintoli won the 2014 WSBK championship and didn't touch the rear brake once. The only people that really need to use rear brake are Moto GP riders.

I'd like to see them add the Subaru as an option as it's the only car allowed to do a timed lap.
DJNokem how come they only allow subarus
Subaru are Title sponsors, have been since 2011.
They have gonna civics this year too
Moe Lester I know the guy how drives the Subaru (mark Higgins) he is only allowed to do it because he was born on the island
Why would subaru sponsor a bike event?
Should have done this in test drive unlimited lol it has bikes. Great stream yesterday mate. Hoping you get to 100K soon :)

A 6:30 nurburgring lap is not that difficult
gixxerollie when you say "bike racer" hahaha you mean on a peddle bike right. Nothing about this game is realistic. Well maybe the graphics.
I thought you did a wonderful job Jim. Well done indeed.
"Pulling away in first gear, these bikes are Not Fast"
That's because you don't have a clutch in the game.
Love these tt vids :)
Car's only work in two axes, X and Y. Motorcycles work in three, X, Y, and Z, just like an aeroplane. Riding a motorcycle is more like flying then driving. It's why when Japan could no longer make airplanes after WWII, they started making motorcycles.
Use spilt brakes instead of combined. That way you can use only the rear when you have the bike leaned over.
Lol I really wish you didn't say anything about your lisp. I hadn't noticed it until now! Great content keep it up.
Nice! I wish that the track gets officially ported, I saw the Asseto Corsa mod but this looks far better.
11:12 there is so much about riding a motorbike competively which doesn't translate well to the virtual environment and I don't see how it could be done without some hybrid mechanical bull/full 6 degrees of freedom flight simulator setup in order to pull the experience off.
Which is not to say SBK2002, on the PC, with a force feedback joystick, wasn't worth playing and attempting to get good at... and I would expect the same for this game
The thing to take away is, instead of just doing it, one has to think about the appropiate action for the given situation.
lol jimmer, I actually have a trackworthy(ish) 600, and I can tell you, you REALLY need a back and front brake separation.
Im basically on the back brake up into third just to take off properly, you also need it to settle the bike alot. for cornering the combined braking might sort of work, but as for real life riding, I'd fall off on a straight! thats literally how important it is.
as to how you would manage all this on a controller, I have no idea :p. good luck!
Holy shit I want to travel to the future so I can play this in VR
If you get a chance, watch a bike racing video (like MotoGP) that has the actual brakes used by the rider showing on an overlay so you can see how much brake they actually use into the corner.
now we need a FFB bike rig
Top tip. Ride a higher gear to help with wheel spin
Really love your videos though, keep it up!!!
9:42 Qui-Gon Jimmers feels a disturbance in the force
Go soothingly on the greasemud for there lurks the skid demon
Seperate breaking and big bikes please. Assists don't really matter on 600's. And clean the hud boy. Body positioning is key. You're already gentle on the throttle and know the course pretty well. Fly on the Suter!
I have learned that you should always play a race game with no assists from the get go, you get rid of habits quick
I do believe that the raven pub is also the location of a fatal crash from the tt.
that was fun. you should do more runs on this course.
So many challenges on this course. I think you did well for your skill level. After racing on this track I'm sure nurburgring feels a bitter smaller Hey?
good driving, game looks amazing
Really enjoyed this again Jimmy.
It would be great if you upload a few more or do another stream so we can see your progress, as I think with more practise you will get very good at it and hopefully you will be able to do this on a Superbike.
Tt looks fun unless you live on the isle of man like me and all the nice roads are shut for ages
Wall Nutt unless you live in glen maye and it’s far away
hey jimmy great lap...especially with no line... what is that song at the start of this video?
Damn that's great riding. I suck at it without assists even though I do ride IRL
What is this game called? What systems do they make it for? PC, Xbox, PlayStation?
Jimmers come to the Isle of man for this years TT!
Looks so realistic. Might have to get it. Does it support FFB joystick?
you have a golden television voice
On the top of the screen you can see which direction the next corner is, isn't that an assist?
Hutchinson crashed at 15:30 and broke his leg once at least
Take the MX5 out to to the IoM! You might have trouble driving it there but it'd be fun once you made it 🤷🏻♂️
Funny you mention The Raven. One of the better documented fatal crashes happened right in the same place where a rider crashed into the pub.
Cause of crashing was stucked throttle according to informations and witnesses. When i first watched the video without knowing what caused crashing into the pub he seems like he was going waaaaay too fast for ballaugh bridge
You shall overcome the lisp Jimmy.
NO LISPERINO JIMMO
Would be good to have the record lap on one side of the screen and your go at beating it on the other side as a race scenario
Oh man, This feels super slow I run this on the BMW S1000RR I'm fine until almost the end of the lap when you get into the countryside I just crash everywhere haha nice video tho man.
THANK YOU! I Thought I was plain stupid bc I couldn't make a damn lap without any assist on F1 game, but I play with a controller. Dah
Well I got diassapointed when he said that 19:10 is a terrible time while I am happy when i do something less that 20 minutes...
The AI in this game is pure garage!
I'm from the isle of man and my uncle is in the grand prix which is the same course but for semi pros
Look up Irish road racing. Similar roads. Similar bikes. It's not a time trial, they're racing each other.
What track is playing at the end of the video ?
Isnt most of the cost savings for bikes primarily in the less complex vehicles and safety equipment?
Because I want a bike but dont know how well my mechanical experience would be with the safety.
Did game have counter steering?
You mentioned that you go down if you touch the brakes at all in a corner. That's actually not particularly true on a bike, sure if you slam one of the brakes a wheel will lock up and you'll go down.. But if you get on your rear brake in a corner (not too hard), you're fine. The rear tire grip and brake physics are terrible in this game.
If this game implemented track IR to control body movement it would sell a million copies.
