And he has a such a talent to ad lib so naturally. He’s a “natural” racing announcer. I’d hire him in a minute & I was in radio for 20 years.
I know he is a commentator for virtual Le Mans presented by Gran Turismo Sports TV. He does commentator stuff there maybe soon he might if he pleases do that kind of job as well :D
I mean I don't wanna be a dick and I agree that Jimmy is a great dude making interesting content, buuut. You know, he has a speech impediment. That's quite an issue to be a commentator on TV.

Until the mid 70s they did run open wheelers at the track until a dreadful accident where a car got airborne over one of the 'humps' going down conrod.
No the chase was added to comply with regulations for the World Touring car competition, which Bathurst became a round for in the late 80s. I think they also lowered one of the humps at the same time though which would have made life a little easier for open wheelers.
Correct. Well almost. Quarry is turn 6 just past where Dick Johnson hit the rock. You're talking about turn 5. Some call 5 & 6 quarry so you're not totally wrong. Quarry is also where many drivers mention going under the tree.
Wooooooooooooooow, you were on fire in this one! So many great overtakes & so much push, so exhiliaratingly quick in clean air! Just one small note: I have found that the realistic AI in R3E might actually be 107, not 105, at least that's the one that roughly matches leaderboard times for the M235i on Road America and the Salzburgring... So maybe the AI was a bit low, but hey - an average Joe like me cannot even beat the 105 AI this consistently on pace, let alone the 107 one. Great video.
I've literally just spent the last 5 or 6 hours racing F1 cars round Bathurst in the Nations Cup on Gran Turismo Sport, and UA-cam decided to recommend this video to me lol. Racing F1 cars around Bathurst is *REALLY* fun! You can proper chuck them around this circuit, especially the newer cars.
not really a big deal but T2 is actually called Griffins Bend. Quarry is the T5-6 section of track after the Cutting. Loved the video regardless, as always
I am in a league on iRacing and we run everything around the mountain every fortnight. We have done from the Indy car to the Mazda to the NASCAR to the GT1s . Always great fun.
How in the name of god are you able to drive an an F1 car on a race at Bathurst, react to what happens around you, manually stift gears AND still comment what you`re doing all the time- I salute you👍🏻
Australia has a new open wheel category called S5000 that will be starting soon with cars based on the old school Formula 5000 cars from the 70's but with a whopping great 5L V8. The cars will have moderate downforce levels to emphasize the drivers skills and modern safety features like the halo. If we are lucky in the next few years we can see these S5000 monsters racing around Bathurst in the days before the Bathurst 1000.
Hey Jimmy! I saw on your stream yesterday that you were down cause you wanted to do more real car stuff but noone watched the content. Well, I just wanted to let you know, it's cool content! Seeing you go through this experience is the cool part, cause you do it as you, not as a commentator. It may not get as many views, but keep doing them because they are cool to watch!
F1 cars have raced at Bathurst in the Australian Grand Prix in 1958. The race was run to Formula Libre and F1 cars were in it. The last time wings and slicks cars ran was F3 a few years ago.
I don’t know how often you look back at old videos for comments Jimmy, but I am a longtime fan who loves all of your mashups. I especially like when you jump into older games. I was wondering, have you ever thought about doing a run on Grand Prix 4? Maybe running a season in its original format, or modding it, to make it more modern. Anyways, I hope that BMW puts you in a GT4. Cheers.
The RaceRoom guys clearly have been fans and gamers since those days. I was browsing the RR store and noticed that many of the team names for these cars are the names that Geoff Crammond's Formula 1 Grand Prix used (as it had no licencing) such as McPherson-Alpha.
I don't think they should, they'd have to widen the track itself, install run off zones, build new stadium parts etc. That would ruin Bathurst as it is now.
Ferrari only semi auto in 1990. 1991 saw Williams bring there's out, wasn't until Brazil 92 that mclaren release theirs, a rather rushed effort because the FW14 b was miles ahead, benneton had there's by 93 and also a few other teams. Crazy how it all works, with so little computer advancement by then, now it's just the norm. Great video jimmer 👍👌
I really like the looks of the early 90's cars since they look similar to the CART cars of the time. they're definately not the same but you could probably have a much more even race between the two.
LOL I saw Formula 5000 race there in the 70's and they were crazy. The straight was also without the kink and I believe they were maxed out RPM wise for the last third of the straight.
Jimmy, F1 at Bathurst would be Epic! I feel like while we are on epics, I don't know if Formula 1 at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway would be fun and the opposite of Tilke. And, I'd wonder if an Alan Wilson Road Course Work (Heartland Park Topeka) would be more alert to the Natural Terrain of the Natural Terrain Road Course (IE, Lighter on the Shenigans, pertinent wanting the NHRA National Event Dragstrip as part of Sim, if available.)
One of the main reasons for not being able to race is at the chase due to the speed it is common in V8 supercars for a crash in the dirt and because of the fact it's not level leading to the high possibility of flipping which will be extremely dangerous and expensive.
With the "second half" of F1 cars being essentially their engine and gearbox, V8-powered cars were shorter than V-12 powered cars in reality, drastically increasing handling in low speed corners*. As far as I know, this is not simulated here, making the differences between different engine concepts less pronounced than in reality. *one of the main reasons of teams gradually abandoning V12 engines. V10s were the better compromise of output and dimensions / weight.
