      Hi Omar, i have a theory why camera has hard time focusing the moving subjects that are close to the camera rather than the subjects far away. But i have to explain it to you through a diagram or something. Can you please drop me a test email so that i can share my theory to you so that if you feel legit then ubcan make video on that for others. My email id is anoop143hcl@gmail.com.
      Love from north Dakota.

    I agree for the personal custom setting n°6 in photo, sensitivity 4 and AF speed 2. Same for video, I put sensitivity +4 and AF speed +5 and it"s nearly perfect now. It's just depending of the lens that I use. But as I have nearly all the fuji lenses, I can say that the best results are with the 100-400mm F4.5/5.6 and the 16-55 F2.8 in video. I was disapointed in video by the 50-140mm F2.8 and the 90mm F2. they were not reliable enough. Thanks for your super video Omar !

      I saw a UA-cam video that did some trials and the difference in AF with some lenses (IIRC including the 50-140) was huge with different settings. What works well with one lens won't necessarily work with a different lens. Each lens needs its own settings.

    I love your videos, a really good example of efficient delivery of expert information, and you're also really funny. I did see another vid where they were addressing the tendency in video for the focus to 'look away', suddenly lose confidence in the focus, and the suggestion they made was to turn off eye autofocus altogether, and set the Range Limiter to On, pick a Custom setting and Set, and set it from the camera's closest focussing distance to just behind your subject. You use the manual focus ring to focus up close, point A, press OK, then move it to the most distant point using manual focus, and press Back. It's good for vlogging where you have a relatively static image. Obvs have to remember to turn it off when you're doing other work. Thank you - I learnt a lot!

    I would have gone for Fuji (almost went for X-T30) but seeing this video made me realize I chose right to get a Canon RP instead (also considered Sony A6100). I'm just a photo enthusiast that needs reliable AF for my autistic daughter. Still wanting those film simulations tho...

    Nice follow up. Very few reviewers follow up on their initial conclusions, and I think this is where the line is drawn between quality content, and just content. Yes, this was a pretty intense test on the focus system, also because there's a chance that when you pan in so closely (and quickly) to a subject, you might be exceeding the lens's minimum focus distance as well (depending on lens/focal length as well of course) which will confuse the camera as to what situation it's in :D

    Omar: had an xt1 before I left Photography and all my photos were in focus. im contemplating getting back into photography and fuji BUT, i recently tested out Canon R6 with 24-105 f4 and oh my gosh, it’s out focus was amazing I cried. Now have a dilemma, fuji is more affordable and love the colors but the R6 hit rate was 100% - My 8mth old granddaughter crawl towards me super fast, every shot was in focus.

    I didn't see your previous vids yet but lighting indoors is way less bright than sun by a factor of 100 times and that matters a lot for speed of focussing at least on my xt2. I think many cameras will struggle to focus on the fly with indoor lighting scenes of moving objects. It's really tough. How did it go outdoors with similar movement? On the xt2 the CH mode will often only focus at the start of the sequence and just use prediction for the rest where CL recomputes during each frame since the processor had enough time. CH also on the xt2 limits focus area detection to only the central area but perhaps that's now the whole sensor on the xt4. In any case I'd like to suggest a repeat using CL mode with all your current settings which I agree with. And in brighter lighting.

Than small APSC sensor will be limiting your ambitions. You can buy a7 iii with one prime like 35 or 50 mm prime lens which may not be as big. Omar has many cameras including sony a7 . Photography is enjoyable and you will always try to improve and if not than use mobile itself.

    THIS!
    I'm considering switching from Sony to Fujifilm; but in my first two weeks of testing Fujifilm x-t3 and x-t4, I have been VERY underwhelmed with the Fujifilm autofocus performance, especially when compared to my Sony a7iii workhorse. Well, after changing to the AF-C custom settings (4,0,auto), and switching the AF priority to Focus, now my Fujifilm camera's autofocus is ALMOST as good as Sony.

    Hey Omar! Amazing work man, truly helpful! I run into a problem that you might know a solution for on the X-T4! In movie mode (not in photo mode!), whenever I set my aperture to anything else then wide open, the camera doesn't actually open the aperture to the set value unless I half-press the shutter button. I've found that it is possible to go to BUTTON/DIAL SETTING - FUNCTION (Fn) SETTING and then set (e.g.) Fn2 to PREVIEW DEPTH OF FIELD. Then, when I press that button it does the same thing as half-pressing the shutter button (closing the lens to the set aperture value). BUT I would much rather have the lens just be set constantly to the set aperture value so I can properly preview my shot. 'Funnily' enough, it works exactly as I want it to in Movie mode. Would you know how to set the camera in Photo mode to work the same as in Movie mode regarding the previewing of Depth of Field?

  • @duaneshort186
    @duaneshort186 4 роки тому +4

    I think you've missed the most important "setting" to help your hit rate. The Fuji's are amazing! They scan the scene for explicit clues as to where to focus. Therefore, all you need to do is pin or paste a bunch of white pieces of paper on your daughter telling the camera to "Focus here" with an arrow pointing to her face (or eye), and perhaps also a hat of some sort that can be worn with several pieces of paper containing the same instructions. I suggest you design whatever wearable head gear as a one size fits all solution so you can just use it with all your paid clients / gigs as well. No need to reinvent the wheel every time.

    I achieved 100% hit rate with girls running towards me from filling 1/3 of the frame to filling the whole frame, except maybe the last 2 shots. The settings were: continuous AF, single point of medium size, eye detection turned off. The point must be on one of the girls. Fuji 35mm f/2 at f/4. The buffer is to small on X-Т4, so I have to do a little pause in the middle. But generally, yes, I agree, X-T4 continuous AF has much to improve on... I hope they will do it in FW update. Anyway I am thinking now of buying Canon R6, but not sure, maybe I should give them another year to mature in mirrorless:):)

  • @grahamowen4336
    @grahamowen4336 4 роки тому +1

    Hi Omar. I enjoy your videos but I have to disagree with the first tip in this video - use Focus as the priority when focus is continuous mode. Why? Well, you are right when you say that you will have more keepers BUT you have a much greater chance of missing that once in a lifetime shot that you will never see again. If you are photographing action use the highest frame rate you can and the camera will re-focus on every shot so there are chances that one image will be better than the rest and even if the focus is not tack sharp, a slightly soft image is better than no image.

    In my experience the subject does not need to fit into the 'zone'. For instance, a small detail of a very large thing, such as the eye of an elephant is tracked very well on my X-T4.

    Thanks for the video. A few people mentioned that lighting played a huge role in the the auto focus capabilities of the Fujifilm cameras. Can you test the difference in a space that is better lit? Cheers.

    With the XT4 IBIS feature would you leave the OIS on or off?

    Maybe a stupid question, but my X-T4 is extreme fast in bringing the object in focus. Faster than me on MF;) But the 56mm hunts like $^$#.. What about shoot in C modus and bring it in focus and when in focus, switch while recording from 'c' to 'm' in front. Can I assume that my object stays in focus and I can take it over manually if necessary?

    The continuous focus is the worst thing of fuji compared to canon, second is aperture change in video and also i found the mtrix exposure metering a bit more reliable on my old canon. Fuji tend to focus more on sky and clouds.
    And still actual shooting with it makes so much more fun then it did with my canon.
    Also higher Iso and noise levels are so much better on Fuji compared to Canon APS-C.
    I can't really say one is better than the other,
    both have their pros and cons. It's important to know the limitations, then you can deal with them.

    Hey,
    So if I use continuous focus around f5.6 or f8 but zone... i should get better street shots as people walk towards me?
    I find I walk quickly so my pace sometimes affects shots too....I've been using 1/250th when possible..... yesterday I put everything in auto towards end of day and got consistent results but dialing in my iso min and max

    So many options for tracking, faces, eyes etc. It’s like they gave up trying to get the autofocus working and just added all the options for users to play with. I don’t want to have to program it myself.

    One test I didn’t see u do was tracking focus. So when u put the af box on the subject it stays.

    I just purchased an XT-4 and for some reason, when I take pictures, it takes it, but I cannot view the photos by clicking the playback button. The playback button pretty much doesn’t work. However, I noticed that if I turn off the camera and turn it on and click the playback button, it will say no images. But when I start to shoot again, the playback button will not work.
    Also, the wrench icon in settings is grayed out?
    Anyone know what this could be? Thank you!
