Warrior is the only job I've ever played that genuinely makes me feel like I am the one who will make the difference. This wall to wall pull is mine and mine alone because warrior's survivability and self-healing through damage is second to none. One thing I can promise, for every expansion I have played and will continue to play; I will main warrior
This would explain why Raubahn could take getting his arm sliced off and still coming for more from Ilberd. Guy was tapping into his inner beast in combat. xD On a serious note, I hope we get an offshoot DPS class of the Warrior job that fights like Raubahn using two swords and flaming aether combined with their blade work, like him and Ilberd, that devastates the battlefield with their fiery rage.
There was always something beautiful about the warrior in most rpgs imo, being just armed with a blade in a world of magic has a certain amount of charm
Warrior means pressing one button 50% of the time and getting dopamine from every fell cleave sound. It means using the fell cleave sound as a ringtone, It means charging into shit and scream UNGA BUNGA while using nascent flash + chaotic cyclone to heal urself for 3 times ur helth.
WAR is considered the "Angy Tank", but I don't think that anger is the only emotion they feel in abundance. I think they're more passionate than anything, and like anyone who feels so intensely about...anything, they can take things too far. But a good WAR is aware of this, and while we feel everything with pure intensity, we also keep a disciplined mind.
I've levelled all the jobs to 80, but after the events of Shadowbringers, when tanking, I take up the axe. I like to think I wield the beast of a hero, from a very distant shard. Enjoy Endwalker my favourite scribe.

Thank you for pointing out that the warrior is very much lucid and strategic in spite of their savage rage. That's the key to what makes them so horrifically dangerous - they are indeed beasts that can hit like a freight train, but also clever and temperamental, strategic and understanding of both their and their foes' strengths. If I had to speculate, the original tribe was probably taken out bit by bit, systematically and through extensive levels of underhanded scheming. That the warrior tradition of old was intentionally orchestrated to be forgotten, as Eorzean powers throughout all times feared their potential. The uncompromising soul of raw, primordial humanity. Best fucking job, accept no substitutes.
My first class was reluctantly Maurader since I wasn’t super keen on the other options. Was so uncertain in the beginning about tanking but now over 200+ hours later I really love WAR and how it fits in with the story and journey of my character. Thanks for a great lore view on the class!
Thank you for this video!! It’s nice to think my Hellsguard Roegadyn has basically gone back to her roots! I started the game with her being a marauder - the axe just really suited her! (I actually had no idea what being a tank even meant when I started the game xD FF14 is my first MMO, so I was a serious noob when it comes to MMO terms and gameplay.. Thank god for all my amazing friends who’ve been helping me out :’D) I played all of msq as a warrior (even if it meant losing a lot of exp I could’ve used for other jobs). She’s been a warrior since the character creation menu so it seemed right to let her be just that through all of msq. It really brings me joy that that kinda lines up with the lore too :)
Loved the video, warrior main here loving the lore. One side note, I see this missed all the time. The word decimate comes from decimal, it means to destroy only 10% of something
While that is true of the origin, colloquial use has changed the meaning to be something akin to "thorough destruction." And actual use trumps old definitions.
I always like to compare warriors with the likes of Achilles, while yes he was incredibly brutal and cruel in battle he was by no means incompetent and it was his ferocious tact (and many blessings) that led to many victories.
The Warrioir truly is the best Tank there is. True story, I was running The Cutters Cry once as a Warrior and finished off the final boss on my own. It's that badass if you know what your doing :)
I had a similar experience in the same dungeon. But I was leveling bard at the time. Terrifying experience, but good thing I knew how to kite the boss. Had to do like 25% of its health on my own lmao.

This job is a MAJOR part of my character's lore. She is a warrior by default thanks to Arbert's soul. But i literally wrote that the first manifestation of her inner beast happened when facing Thordan and the knights of Heavensward, that ended in a bloodbath of her enemies. EW has now roused the beast once again. Absolutely fantastic job, with awesome lore 👌
As a warrior let me say this. You did a outstanding job. Down to the slightest detail you were spot on. Second to my fellow warriors I have one request for you all, no matter your race. Stand tall. Not because it's your job to as a tank class...but to protect what you hold dear. No matter the cost. And to all you Lalafell Warriors out there know your some of the bravest out there. Smaller then most yet you go in and fight on the front lines. We may be tiny, but we ARE mighty.
A theory, looking at this - I have to wonder if things such as the Darkside of Dark Knights, Inner Dragons for Dragoons, and Inner Beasts for warriors, are just - different manners of drawing on the same source (that not just being the person's personal Aether) - some darker center that finds different expression in different cultures.

So, wouldn't the warrior's anger and bloodlust stem from personal injury? There is merit to Rezzarch's idea, that these all draw from a similar source - at least emotionally, if not practically.

I like thinking every race at one point has had this type. Highlanders are known apparently for sewing amulets and such inside their clothing. I’m of the mind that before coming to Eorzea they had their own gods and warriors while still being somewhat nomadic amongst having its standard folk as hunters, farmers, shepherds or fishermen. Just my thinking.
Kind of out there but would it be safe to assume that an ex monk gone warrior would have an easy time taming their inner beast through meditation? Or would their meditative focus conflict with having something as primal as rage?

WAR becomes too angry to die. With skills that give you HP back based on how much damage you inflict. They were even more busted in the older expansions when they still had Bloodbath as a CD.
While I’m very much a Summoner and Scholar, I do so love learning the lore of the other classes. I’ll have a special fondness for warrior as it’s what I would have played as a kid. I even started warrior in FF11 thinking it was DPS. But once I got into group exp parties I learnt the uncompromising superiority of Rdm in that game. It led to a huge mental change to Mage classes. But warrior is what I would have been. The road not taken.
My favorite part about this is- ok, Sch/Smn are obviously linked, but. XIV Warriors and Scholars are canonically buddies. The scholar job quest/trainer being based out of the marauders guild. Scholars being the healers for the Nymeian Royal Marine corps, a group of warriors/marauders, heck, the fact that their 2nd job trainers are both based in camp bronze lake, or how the new endwalker abilities have some fun similarities to older tools the other job. -A warrior main whose favorite healer is scholar

i work for a company where comments that contain just full on negativity shouldnt effect me. i cry in dungeons alot because yeah i cant even make time to practice for the dungeon. i do my best i am average i except that. listening to this lore is simply empowering for me as i play ffxiv because of this video i still prefer doing the stuff i had problems with when i first started…kinda helps to help others sometimes
Honestly I think Warrior is OP but I also think there's nothing wrong with it that. It's an enjoyable class to play and I think it's one of the better tanks in any game and works really well due to it not being a PVP game

That would kinda defeat the purpose of how the job system works. Though i agree that they could put in more skins to make the weapon look like hammers or maces. Not 2h sword though. DRK has that and once you do it for one you have to do it for all jobs.
It means having a rotation so easy a 5 year old can do it,turning off your reason,and eating more crayons than the marines. Oh and not being disappointed every expansion.
@@bearandthebull2372 Lack of fun, or even remotely busy or active rotations and or mechanical gameplay, and the fact GNB shits on it for damage. I would love to lose some utility and defensive power to focus on the healing and damage needing to be kept up by not fucking up rotations and having to work on uptime.
Every single tank rotation is easy. Do combo, press damage buttons off cooldown. But warrior has the most interesting defensive options because every other tank can only mitigate stuff. Where warrior can choose to not mit and heal after, hold resources, align vengeance to optimize retaliation damage, situationally boost its raidmit by feeding other cooldowns into it. I'm sorry drk is so wack and awkward right now, but stop hating lol
really hope you do a sage vid when its lore become clear enough cause tbh my fav jobs thematically are sage and scholar cause i like the smart mage fantasy more than the mage who learns for power lol

Most of the tanks can do that the boss hit like a wet noodle but WAR and PLD are the best soloers out of the tanks

They're all different unfortunately. The only reason the WoL has an Inner Dragon is because of the Eye of Nidhogg.

PLD has spells and shield based stuff to add to their kit. Warrior just runs in and commits Axe to Face until the thing is dead.

I would love to lose some utility and defensive power to focus on the healing and damage needing to be kept up by not fucking up rotations and having to work on uptime.

Every single tank rotation is easy.
Do combo, press damage buttons off cooldown.
But warrior has the most interesting defensive options because every other tank can only mitigate stuff. Where warrior can choose to not mit and heal after, hold resources, align vengeance to optimize retaliation damage, situationally boost its raidmit by feeding other cooldowns into it.
