Having symbol tattoos and runic clothes still seem like a valid and useful method even in the modern era. If a summoner gets separated from their tomes, got a backup on hand as a precaution.
You're absolutely right. It wouldn't be a bad backup at all. But against someone who has dozens of pages of incantations you'd run out of tricks before they did.
I am a huge lore junkie and I used to play wow. Summoner is one of my favourite jobs I've played and learning the lore behind it is amazing. Keep it up! Excellent video!
A very good video ! as an old SMN main, it's nice to have an easy place to recap some of the lore- or even some bits I may have missed. With the reworks coming in Endwalker, it'll be interesting to see how much of this remains accurate! I know the dev team have stated even the job quests are going to be reworked, so I'm sure you'll have some work cut out for you. Thanks again for all your work making this series for us ! Your love for this game really shines through in every single one.
I will admit im late watching this video but hey sunmoner is cool. Though i will admit the process of a grimoire filled with runes and array holds a lot of ultility than i thought. Just imagine that the Wol take a page from Alisaie and G'raha book and use the girmoire to channel aetherpool weapons. Each weapon a single page to represent another job the Wol knows. Helps with equipment cost, travel cost and hey definitely aurprise somebody.
I was debating soul crystals in reddit a while ago, and I was told that while they are only for recording and bestowing memories, the summoner soul crystal is a more strict requirement for the job because the egis are stored inside of it Yeah, I don't think that's how it works
I only discovered your channel today (well, yesterday now technically) but I’m really enjoying your lore videos. Summoner is of particular interest to me as it’s been my main or secondary job since Heavensward and I’m incredibly excited by the rework coming in Endwalker.
Summoner is my favourite casting class so far and the one I'm most comfortable using. Having started as an arcanist, I'm utterly bias but it's so good. This video highlights a lot of why I enjoy it too.
@@SynodicScribe summarizing the class/hob quest storylines in ARR would be really helpful because it doesn't have quite the impact after you've cleared MSQ to have context of the world.
@@SynodicScribe it may be worth considering as the motive and process for a primal opting for tempering and how it happens was clarified further, and some parts retconned.
Of course! I plan on covering all the jobs in time. So far I'm going in order that they appeared in Eorzean History. But everyone single one of them will get all the care and details they need!
It would be interesting if we would be able to choose the order we summon phoenix/bahamut/L-Bahamut in a future expansion as proof of our growing control over aether (similar to PvP lb or something)
That's entirely reliant on the Primals they defeated (and created an Egi/Trance/etc. out of). But in terms of raw destructive power, they're still second to Mhach's Black Mages.
I have to say the potential explanation for the horn is plausible, but looking at the thing is always going to be perceived silly by a lot of people to put it mildly.
Glad you improved your sound quality down the line. This was nearly a whisper to me. Considering the big gameplay changes made in Endwalker, do you think you'll remake any of these older videos?
Nothing in this video contradicts summoners as they are now - they are still wielding the same type of magic, they're just using it somewhat differently
Excellent lore recap, but you forgot two details: 1) In order to first manifest an Egi, a Summoner must perform a ritual called an "Austerity" in a location elementally compatible with the Primal they want to create an Egi out of (after being imbued with their residual essence, of course). Then, the Summoner must defeat it in order to "tame" it. 2) Trance is an alternate form of summoning, relying on using a Primal's essence directly onto one self (instead of using it to create a separate construct). "Demi-summons" are basically extensions of their respective Trances (Dreadwyrm Trance -> Demi-Bahamut and Firebird Trance -> Demi-Phoenix).
@@GayLPer I'm pretty sure I did _not_ hear them mentioning the "Austerity" ritual by name (let alone having to perform it in an elementally-compatible location). Do you have a timestamp for it?
They kinda explained in the job quests that a person's aetheric body can only hold so much extra aether and thus we are limited to what we can summon. It's why we moved to bahamut. Ymithra believes that at our current point its quality primals not quantity primals now. I've not seen the lore reason why we have Phoenix but it's why we moved to bahamut instead of shiva, Levi, rah, odin ect
@@SynodicScribe ima need ur help tonight or whenever. Ima be makin a theoretically lore video as a live stream event to kinda talk about a possible future for endwalker and beyond. So, if the Allagans had summoners, and we have summoners now, does that mean that we don’t need the Echo to survive a Primal? I’m asking for role playing purposes!
Interesting, I co-main Summoner for solo content, though we’ll see how it goes after Endwalker. I use Scholar for group content as I really enjoy healing. I’m also a White Mage, yup I like healing. But relearning the lore is fun.
I really have to say this but its most certainly pronounced E-JEYE and not EGGY. You make amazing videos and I love your channel I just couldn't help myself.
The summoner headpiece is actually the stick these Allagan heroes used to beat women away with. You can't save the empire if you're waste deep in batcaves all day, you see.

@@SynodicScribe Which is why it would primarily serve as a distraction to acquire your tome back or run away.
I’ve got to admit tattoing the best spells/summons, or weaving it into clothes does indeed seem like a good backup should one lose the book in battle.

This channel is going to be huge. I've been waiting for so long for someone to cover FFXIV lore! Keep up the good work! Subbed!
Tell your friends! I plan on covering as much as I can!
This is exactly how I feel!! Also subbed!!
Summoner is a cool job to start this series with. It is the oldest known job in the setting, as you said. But I also just find it to be really unique.

Beating pyromancer at his make believe lore love, keep it up! Been playing since 1.0 but always excited to rehear the lore from your perspective
Pyromancer is a fraud.
Or at the very least, he's nowhere near as good at lore as he claims to be.

@@nervnerd Phoenix's aether was intertwined with Bahamut's. Our time in the First may have taught us to discern the difference
Is this video also going to get pulled and updated given the new lore on primals we got in Endwalker?
Summoner lore is pretty much the same still. What happened in Endwalker didn't change what happened in the Third Astral Era.
By this logic i want a tsukiyomi demi/egi.
It's technically possible if the primal's aether was dense enough to partake of.
