Frankly I loved everything about this video except that sneaky UpGrad advert. But still, kudos to team @warikoo for putting together this content. I can vouch for one suggestion in this video and this comes from my own experience - Likability is one of the biggest factors that makes or breaks ones appraisal results. So one must work on it and it definitely impacts the relationships in both professional and personal life. It's easier said than done but then there is no harm in trying, isn't it?

    1. Highlight your achievements instead of your job description on your CV
    2. Improve your skill set
    3. Take on additional responsibility
    4. Be likeable
    5. Don’t complain/gossip
    6. Embrace feedback
    7. If you don’t ask, the answer is always ‘No’.

Thats so true Ankur, I am a HR from almost a decade and 90% of the time people do not take pain to understand "Increments" , mostly assume it as a desired hike... but its actually more of what a company/employer wants..

Great points ! But in Reality in most of the cases manager decides in his head beforehand how much to give to a particular employee , infact in most cases your comments against your goals are not even read by your manager , at the end of the day everything is business and I personally feel Appraisals , Rating , Increments , etc. should be a by product not the ones which require your focus , so just chill and work honestly!
    P.S. - I strongly agree with the point "we shouldn't complain" !

  • @gauravagarwal8634

In many companies the appraisal process is just a formality and all the things decided by hod or 1or 2 person.
Personal likes or dislikes also matter.

Me apni company me aik point p akay stuck hu. meri grading sab say high hogai hai mere JD level p. ab company mujhay average keh rahi hai.
Best performer say shuru huwa kuch years.
    Phir Excellent performer
    Aur ab average
kaam wohi acha hi kiya hay aur us may har year ki tara company ko acha benefit mila.
Par chu kay mere apnay role me koi khas change ni aya to ab mujhay average kar diya gaya.
Aik waja ye bhi hota hay kay company kay budget fix hotay hay, aur aap us budget say ab baher hojatay ho to company ab tal matol say kaam laiti hai aur apka salary increment aur Ziada nahi karna chahti...
To iska solution ab sirif 1 hi hai: Switch and apply to new and better role

I couldn't agree to a few points. When you are working in a big company
    1. Most of the time the feedbacks are not proper because the higher management have already decided what would be the increment that you get. It's an average increment.
    2. The best thing to get an increment now a days is to get a job offer. it literally is the most effective way to get increment.
    3. Your increment does not depend on the achievements but most of the time it depends on project's dependency on you.
But you can always take it in a proper way to be
    1. More likeable, understanding the pain points of your colleagues and leads, being more approachable.
    2. Handle stressful situations calmly
    3. Always trying to learn.
That way you can ensure that you are practicing those qualities which will take you towards career success irrespective of your current or future employers.

Management don’t want to see the gaps in their decisions. Harsh reality is management prefer those people who simply give butter . In my 15 years of corporate career found that management gives promotion to only those people who are in good book not by their work but by chaplusi… the quality of butter matters( Amul butter is more preferable ). If anybody Pursue skill upgradation then present organisation becomes insecure as they think that he might replace us one day if I promote him. If you have never seen this type of work culture politics then you are lucky enough

But sir let me tell you one true story
At Lalbaba seamless tubes pvt ltd there is a senior engineer in mechanical maintenance dept. When he completed his 1st year in this company, his dept's assistant manager left the job, after few days his dept's DGM left due to his family matters. There was no one to take the responsibility to run maintenance dept. At that time that senior engineer as usual take that responsibility and run the dept without any senior for next 4 months. In this period all records are up to date, production also remain same. After that new DGM come and take the charge. After one month of joining of that DGM That senior engineer is fired from that company by this DGM just at the time of appraisal or increment. That senior engineer never disrespect any one, he love and teach his juniors, workmen, respects seniors, guide every one , learn from them. Now that DGM 1st bring one senior engineer and one manager and then fired that senior engineer just at the time of increment.
Now tell me sir why it happened?
This is common case in industries
