1975-1976 Trick is among my favorite era; very creative with more and more originals being introduced into the sets. PLEASE give us a clean version of Arabesque! For some reason, that gem still has not made it to any of these shares.
Amazing record of Cheap Trick's development. Robin was still singing more like his acoustic duo voice, yet to really use his grinding Rock voice later heard in, say, 1977.
Go-Go girls could not be released these days without some PC lyric changes. Also, I always thought that this *one* song would have been better sung by RN. He could convey the sick humor better than RZ tried to. After all, RN is the one who wrote those twisted lyrics!
Interesting.....La Crosse is my hometown and I've done a ton of research on concerts that took place there in the 1970s, and I'm finding no record of this show, only that they were there in September opening for Fleetwood Mac.
No better way to start the week; Disco Paradise is a new one for me! I have to ask, when traveling outside of Rockford to WI, was the band staying at hotels or driving back that same night? Were there connections in WI which you could stay with for these shows? Thanks again
Somebody told me they played at Beachcombers [I think that was the name of the club but my memory might not be exact these days] on Geneva Lake in Fontana.
Cheap Trick played at Beach Roamers(now Gordy’s)on Geneva Lake, Fontana WI on 03/19/75 & 06/30/76. They have also played of course many times in Lake Geneva WI at Top Deck(now Riviera Ballroom)& Black Knight(now Hogs & Kisses). For those that don’t know, Riviera Ballroom has placed a beautiful plaque sign titled Stars of Riviera Ballroom on the 1st floor. It’s lists all the big names that have played there before. Cheap Trick is included on this list.
@@MrBobbytot Thanks for the correction. We lived in Indian Hills from about 1970 to about 1975. I went to Fontana Elementary. I went back there for our Big Foot High School Reunion in 2004 -- I think -- and some of us went to the lake front there at that club and I think somebody told me about it then or it could have been my brother. At any rate I thought it was pretty cool that they played there and I had no clue that they did while we were living in Fontana, going to school there, etc. I was not old enough to have been there so I could not have seen them anyway.
@@MrBobbytot My aunt and uncle [part of Reed's Construction] lived in Lake Geneva. The only other bars I remember were Bopsie's in Walworth and the Red Eye in Linton which we called something else. A nickname. Memory is getting so bad these days! Oh well. I don't think Bopsie's had live music. Red Eye was a big place. They might have had bands there. I graduated in 1978 and shortly after we moved to Florida. Kind of lost touch.
Yes, Cheap Trick has always had a important footprint in the Lake Geneva area from their beginnings. Lyrics were inspired from the Lake Geneva area for the great song High Roller. They recorded there at Sound Summit(Standing on the Edge album & Mighty Wings/Top Gun Soundtrack)located at the Americana Hotel(Prior Playboy Club)at the time, now Grand Geneva. They have played at nearby Alpine Valley too. Also Bun E, I talked to Sammy G a short time ago in Kenosha. He lives in Florida but comes back to visit. When we talk about Sammy G’s Circus, we always talk about Cheap Trick playing there of course. When I recently talked with Xeno at one of his gigs, I told him also I had been with the one and only Sammy G. Sammy is doing well.
@@danhendrickson7708 how cool is that. I know they played at the silver dome ballroom in Neillsville. He posted a flyer about a hear ago from a gig there. What I wouldnt give for that as I'm from Neillsville. Used to live in Marshfield for about 25 years. Also I know they played at chili corners in chili and the name of thg bar in Marshfield they played at constantly, escapes me at the moment. I'm sure you know it. Small world man. 😊
@@rogerj1037 I'm not 100 % sure of course but there used to be a place called the Airway bar in Marshfield. It was a pretty popular place back in the 70's. It sat doorment for many years and then it was turned into a teenage non alcholic place before becoming a bar called Bubbles in the early 90's. The placed burnt down in 1994. My band actually played there in 1993 a year before she burnt down.
@@danhendrickson7708 you nailed it. That's the bar. Airway. I have a couple newspaper advertisements with them appearing there. Just couldnt think of it at the moment. Ahh memory lane. First we had Jamesway, spent alot of time there lol, Bubbles, like you mentioned, hung out there on some weekends. After it burned down I never went to where they moved on the other side of town. Rear end lol. That's interesting that bubbles was the airway. I was never sure, being so young, where airway was when me and my parents would come over every weekend to shop in the 70s and I was so young. Was it remodeled quite a bit when it turned into bubbles? Where was the stage or the area bands would play during it being airway? And did that bar on the corner of highway 10 to neillsville ever have bands and what was its name in the 70s? What band where you in and are you still today?
@@rogerj1037 The airway bar was way before my time. I don't know if it was remodeled after it was reopened. There's a storage place there now and the old parking is a grassy field. The rear end closed down a few years ago. The building was tore down and church holds christian music concerts on it now. Chili corners is the bar on the corner of 10. I don't think they have live music anymore though. The band I was in was called toy guns. We played mostly around the central wisconsin area from 1991 to 1993. I haven't played out since 2016. I might start playing acoustically (solo) starting next summer. Been working on a song list but I get kind of lazy about practicing!
This appears to be the same La Crosse show as posted last year, only missing "Downed" and "He's a Whore." I don't know if the 9/23 date or this 7/20/75 one is correct, though.

Oh thanX Bun E!..a new Cheap Trick FiX!.🏁.X
Loving these archives, Bun. I Dig Go Go Girls live. Wow!
Great stuff, particularly loved Come On Come On in its early form. Thanks Steve & Bun.
Glad to see I Dig Go Go Girls, it always felt like their attempt at a Sparks song with some... intersting lyrics
In the studio album and afterwards Robin would sing Come On, Come On in a deeper tone. I never get tired of that song.
Thanks Bun E👍🏻
Thanks as always.
Amazing

A load of frantic energy there.

That’s where these tunes are from., “Mary Sawyer Auditorium.”
I believe it was in 1974 they played at James B. Conant high school in Neenah Wisconsin. They were just getting started and nobody knew who they were.
Actually that was September 1973 we played there opening for Ides Of March.

Is the pitch off, sounds like it's running too fast.
It was recorded a bit slow and then played back a little fast. But it's a bootleg.
I changed the playback speed to 0.75 and it sounds somewhat 'Normal'.
