      Honestly, he might need a new coach. He's had form issues for quite some time now. He definitely has the speed to when pretty much everything, but if somebody can't clean up that form for him it's not likely to happen.

    • @Keepdapocket
      @Keepdapocket 2 роки тому +10

      @@micdeleon I thought after his freshman year, they would work on his form starting out this indoor season, it looked like the corrected it. His shoulders were dropped, he didn’t look like he was overstriding. But, then I thought to myself, he hasn’t been pushed. He was always in front most of the indoor season. Perfect example is in this race. Look at his shoulders and turnover in that first 100. He is relaxed. Shoulders down. It’s no until the end he starts to press because he is behind, then form reverts back. Happened at last year’s outdoors as well. When he gets pressed, he is done unless he is in front.
      So much talent, and rooting for him, but I think it’s mental. He reverts back to what he knows. He is young though. Plenty of time to fix that mentality.

    I've said it all the time, college athletes compete too much during the season including my self when I use to compete back in the 90's ,so by time the championships comes around,they're burned out and this Boling guy is a prime example of that. The potential is there but in order to make it to the next level, competing at college needs to stop right now.

    Good race from Harding. I have to say tho, this has to be one of the worst indoor meets hands down. You really can't blame it on the athletes but the officials, so many races where people were getting disqualified due to noises in-crowd, and starter not making sure all athletes have their hands on the line and are completely lowered before setting. When I saw this track I knew there would be issues with the curve. Indoors tracks are known for having very bad turns but this meets track has one of the worst I've seen. It wasn't just Boling struggle with running the curve on that lane but lots of athletes also in this meet. Oh well, what's happened has happened off to Outdoor seasons where the real fun begins.

    One more observation that could apply to Boling that applies to a lot of athletes is that he may want it too bad. Sometimes your passion works against you. It can lead to sleepless nights ahead of big competitions. It can fill you up with so much anxiety to constantly ruminate over the race. When this happens you end up mentally fatigue and flat come race day. I know this isn't conclusive but it is something that happens to extremely passionate athletes that want it really bad. You can tell by his strained face, loosing control of his body in his race that he really wants it. Regardless, I hope he figures it out but in the mean time the focus should be on the people who are getting it done.

      @@MimontheSitchell I find it interesting that you also substituted tends to which is what's written with always. Big races are not 1 single race. I assume because you're watching track and field you also may have competed. If that's the case then you clearly know that there are bigger races then a championship. There are many big races throughout the year that get you to the big race. Even when boiling wins a big meet, many times he doesn't run a great time, just good enough to win. Where as if he doesn't have that added pressure he does better. It's probably more of a nerves thing. Laird was his daddy last year. He also fell apart and was lane impeding. A common problem with Matthew Boiling on Big races. The only way to prevent that is if he draws the outside lane. He isn't a horrible curve runner either so it isn't that. He does that when he is losing and under pressure. Head game
