@@bagwipes I'm only 20 and I've been a fan since 17! They are definitely an elegant band and turn off a lot of crazy teenagers I'd suspect. But Elbow are just amazing!
Each time I hear this beautiful creation I cry since losing my father. How you have moved the bleakness of the woodwinds into warmth with the piano and bass. This is such human beauty from all of you. Thank you.
The roses are heavy With rain and for ages Veil after veil And the pictures are whispering The ones we belong to Caught in forever Startled and proud all laughing together And babe if you'd met him I picture you'd sit Blasting my wisdom With two-barrelled wit Then he'd steal you for dancing And you'd lend him your arms And I'd stooge for your laughing And you'd twirl in the chaos of charm The roses are heavy With rain and for ages Veil after veil And the pictures arе whispering He'd steal you for dancing And you'd lеnd him your arms And I'd stooge for your laughing And you'd twirl in a chaos of charm
I wish so many people who are in my life now - especially my kids - had the chance to meet my grandad, my hero. This encapsulates that beautifully. Not the first time I've shed a tear to an Elbow song. x
If you loved him which I am sure you did and he you then they will definitely know him because he is a part of you due to the feeling of love . Feel it and know it. It is true . Best wishes
What a great tune, simply sublime. Elbow get better and better, fantastic. Guy's voice is one of those rare voices that could sing you the telephone book and it would still be awesome.
As beautiful as Guy’s voice and the lyrics are the combination and melodic synchronisation of the two woodwind instruments through the song is musical genius.
This song makes me think of my dad.... he never met my wife, or any of my children, but I know they would have loved him and I know he would have adored them.... and it breaks my heart every time, but I'm glad that it does...
Chills, absolute chills. Those first few piano notes put such a lump in my throat. So bittersweet, so beautiful. Thank you for the wonder you bring to the world, Elbow.
I am late to the Elbowsphere. A British acquaintance of mine introduced me to their music last year and what a gift it has been. The comfort of their sound bringing light to a dark time of pandemic and isolation. This is another beauty. Thank you.
And the sublime arrangement of instruments. How the guitar and piano start at the same time. Almost colliding but then merging. And the reed section blowing this veil of sound carrying the song. Beautiful.
I love this song so much, I makes me cry everytime I listen, my cousin Chris took his life a few years ago and this is feels like it is written about him. Miss you Christopher x
I love Elbow, there I said it and have since their first album came out. Guy Garvey has the perfect voice and the lyrics they write together just come together so well. Not many bands can reduce me to tears but these guys do.
At the risk of repeating myself….. beautiful song, wondrous lyrics, a song that will mean so much to so many and with Guy’s voice, it’s all just perfect.
Ah this is just beautiful and reminds me of last year with the Elbow Rooms where Fridays gained a new meaning and something to look fwd to. Gorgeous track and definitely inspires me to finish several projects to start another novel. Not often music moves one that much so kindest thanks
I find it incredible that the quality of their music never wains. Album after album are full of divine music. they have set the bar so high than all I can say is in my opinion Elbow are the greatest band on the planet right now
If you like this, I suggest you to listen to the album of the same name (The Seldom Seen Kid) especially songs "Friend of Ours" and "Starling". "Starling" can be unsettling at first but it's quite a beautiful track. Also, can't find enough solace in a song like Scattered Black and Whites!
I've been lucky enough to see them in concert twice... I too get lost in his beautiful voice, and the lyrics are mesmerising and intelligent.. there just so tight as a band.
Fantastic. This is precisely why Elbow is my favorite working band today. Well done everyone, jolly good show. Blessings, peace and love, from your loyal fan, Joe.
This is just the most beautiful song. The woodwind harmonies>dissonance>resolution chords are so unusual! Then you add in the words and it is just spine-tingling awesome. Can't wait to hear the whole album!
I never thought there's be another song to share my personal top shelf alongside Lippy Kids but here it is. Both of them do it for me... I hear Guy can be found in pubs in 'town now and then. I have this notion that I'd love to buy him a pint and pass a few minutes to say thanks... the truth is I'd be a blubbering wreck so maybe not, eh ?
To me, this is their most successful musical achievement to date. It says so much, yet with so few words. I feel emotional every time I hear it. Perhaps this new album, marks a new chapter in Elbows ongoing quest to create music that moves people. I have a suspicion this will last the ages.
Elbow - the absolute pinnacle of grown ups music
I'm 14 and they've been one of my favourite bands for seven years. Just shows how they can attract audiences of any age...

I am 900. Been waiting a long time for a band like them.
Ive listened to elbow seince 4 years old
Heard that
זה אחד מהשירים היפים ביותר ששמעתי

Elbow and Wilco, for me are just THE finest songsmiths. Bands that set a mood and tell a story so well.
I wish so many people who are in my life now - especially my kids - had the chance to meet my grandad, my hero. This encapsulates that beautifully. Not the first time I've shed a tear to an Elbow song. x
Yes amazing how music holds a link and memories of the past.
It is palpable, powerful stuff. Lippy kids gets me every time....Guy's talent is out of this world
@@deketk “it’s palpable, powerful stuff” …nailed it David. No more need be said.
If you loved him which I am sure you did and he you then they will definitely know him because he is a part of you due to the feeling of love . Feel it and know it. It is true . Best wishes
If he was half the man that my grandad was you have my upmost sympathy. Mine passed 30 years ago and I still miss him terribly
all those hesitant and seemingly random, meandering notes that eventually find their way home......... magic, pure magic
What a great tune, simply sublime. Elbow get better and better, fantastic. Guy's voice is one of those rare voices that could sing you the telephone book and it would still be awesome.
I think you are right. I know them since 2004 or so and they get better and better all the time.
As beautiful as Guy’s voice and the lyrics are the combination and melodic synchronisation of the two woodwind instruments through the song is musical genius.
Agreed. The layers of bass clarinet carry the song effortlessly
i'm very happy to find a kind soul at the bottom of a cruel story
I'm gonna have a drink to this song, preferably on monday
My wife-to-be will be walking down the aisle to this, 2 months today. Can’t wait, it’s going to the best day ever…😍
This is a Sunday-morning-coffee-in-quaint- kitchen-sunlight-with-the-love-of-your-life song.
I couldn’t have said it better
This song makes me think of my dad.... he never met my wife, or any of my children, but I know they would have loved him and I know he would have adored them.... and it breaks my heart every time, but I'm glad that it does...
His face at 3.50, says it all ... floors me completely. A song of stunning beauty.
Well spotted.
Fridays is for drinking to the Seldom Seen Kid
9 brilliant albums in a row...no other band ever done this
God, that's just beautiful.
I could just get lost in Guy Garvey’s voice
I often do
Amazing, to all those we wish we could dance with again.
Chills, absolute chills. Those first few piano notes put such a lump in my throat. So bittersweet, so beautiful. Thank you for the wonder you bring to the world, Elbow.
Evrytime I listen to this song it brings tears to my eyes. Outstanding peice of art
I have the exact same thing with 'lippy kids'. This band just touches my soul differently than any other. (In a good way)
Watched them in Manchester on Wednesday night. As ever the band were phenomenal! Cheers Elbow!!! 😊

I am late to the Elbowsphere. A British acquaintance of mine introduced me to their music last year and what a gift it has been. The comfort of their sound bringing light to a dark time of pandemic and isolation. This is another beauty. Thank you.
You have a lot of joyful catching up to do!
@@frankiegeorge2353 I've been working at it.
And you twirl in a chaos of charm
Beauuuuutiful. Cheers everyone.
Wow. I can’t get over the warmth that radiates from Elbow’s music. Brilliant track
Listen through headphones to appreciate the true beauty of this song.
So true... and high-end ones please, with a good soundstage. This entire album is brilliantly recorded.
And the sublime arrangement of instruments. How the guitar and piano start at the same time. Almost colliding but then merging. And the reed section blowing this veil of sound carrying the song. Beautiful.
This track makes me feel happy ..
I love this song so much, I makes me cry everytime I listen, my cousin Chris took his life a few years ago and this is feels like it is written about him. Miss you Christopher x
Song of the year for me, hands down. A sublime piece of music. Timeless, sad, beautiful, I could listen to this for days.
Beautiful song, I mean this is a real piece of art. And the voice of Guy is amazing too.
The warmth of the memories is enhanced by the embers of the woodwinds. And spare, poetic lyrics. Class. 🙏
I'm just blown away by this...
The lyrics, his voice, the emotion, oh my word...
There is so much lyrical beauty to what they do.
Brilliant Elbow, brilliant and well ... simply breathtaking. If tracks like these didn't exist there'd be nothing to look forward to. Thank you

This is why we love you Elbow, your words back to you from my heart.
"What am I without you!"
I'll field this one, peeps.
It's bloody beautiful, isn't it? Enough to break your heart all over again, on every listen. What a very pretty song.
The simplicity of - What a very pretty song - is a perfect comment.
So true. With every listen my heart breaks yet I can’t get enough. How fitting they recorded this in an empty theater as well. Simply amazing.
I’m still astounded that they have broken wide open in America. They’re so sublime.
Agreed! I was lucky enough to see them in the states before all the unpleasantness. They were great live.
Sun rises. Dark clouds part. and look
New Elbow music.
Elbow have the key to my heart. They get me every time, I swear.

Absolutely brilliant, elbow have the most pure sound, and they appreciate all musical instruments.....this song is simply majestic.
Wow! Just Wow!! I am new to Elbow and Guy.... beautiful poetry, music and his voice..... Blows me away

Such talent and gorgeous music and songwriting.
Such a beautiful song, they are as special as they ever were, I love Elbow.
Woke up. Listened to this. and ugly cried. Thanks for something so beautiful
These lyrics are perfection, I read and sing along and find myself tearing up without ever having even lost a friend like Guy did.
Had this playing at our wedding, was the only song we were ever going to choose, absolutely perfect ❤
I am genuinely weeping. I needed this today. This is a good thing.

I clicked the like button as soon as the song started. I can ALWAYS trust Elbow to put out "most excellent" tunes. Love, Love, Love!
