"Singing bring on the night, To have and to hold, The sodium lights, Turning silver to gold". Just beautiful. Guy is one of the finest lyricists of our times.
The first Elbow song I fell in love with and still gets me every time: the richness of the imaginative world created by the words/music...the soaring, melancholy beauty of Guy's voice...the intensity of the whole band's focus... I've been lucky enough to see it live a few times and was so thrilled when I requested it on Elbow Rooms in March 2020. Thank you, Elbow.
About 3 weeks ago I dropped my mum and dad off after a blood test for my dad as he was feeling unwell. As I watched my mum try and place the key into the door for what felt like forever this song was playing. Suddenly for some reason I saw my mum and dad when I was only a small child full of life and now not so. Tears flowed. Tears are flowing now as I listen to this whilst my dad lies in hospital unwell. No song has ever got me like this one does. Love u Elbow x
Sitting here this evening just clicking on random tunes. This has to be one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a long time. Makes you want to search every song they've ever done. I can see how they very quickly gather fans of great music. What a voice he has.
I really want to leave a comment that praises this song, but I just can't find the words that will do it justice! It always leaves a tear in my eye and a warm feeling in the pit of my stomach. Everything about this song is perfection and will no doubt tug on the heartstrings of every person who has the extreme pleasure to listen to this. I can only hope that Elbow decides to 'UA-cam' themselves one day and sees the level of admiration for this band.
"you were the sun in my sunday morning, you were the sun in my sunday morning telling me never to go. so, ill live on a smile and move down the isle of the last bus home". fuckin hell maaan. no matter how many times i hear it the hairs stand up on the back of my neck and my eyes fill up. im creased now..
Every so often I come back to this song, and I get stuck. Literally, I cannot move until I have felt it through me at least ten times. Poetic perfection, I wish Guy Garvey was my Dad.
honestly, you cannot make elbow a soundtrack. don't just listen to them when you commute, or work, you have to go and sit in a room with a pair of good headphones, turn off the lights, close your eyes, and listen. you will get chills. God bless ya elbow. Music like no other.
Wonderful fantastic gorgeous music form the best band I have ever heard. Who could believe that something so beautiful could have ever come out of Bury?
This isnt the perfect song or the perfect performance but then only nature can be 100% perfect. This is close to perfection. Love you Elbow you make things bearable.
Exactly my friend, I mess around in a band making genral noise, thinkin it sounds pretty cool. Then I listen to this and realise I wish I had a tenth of these guy's talent!
I had great expactations for this song. Not great enough it seems. I'm getting into the welding trade, so a soothing and rythemic song like this would be really nice for TIG welding, which is a nice, clean and quiet process. Love the work.
Type in 'Great Expectations tabs' in Google. They'll be only one link (A lot really, but they're all the same). It has most of the intro, and that's it. Not great, but its something to start. Maybe slow down song on editing software to hear it note for note. Its still a bit hard.

This song gives me chills every time I hear it, even after years. Can't believe I just discovered this acoustic performance!
Imagine being born with that voice. Can't listen to Guy singing enough and this is just about as beautiful as it gets.
I had forgotten how beautiful this song is :)
Pure genius, so utterly beautiful and completely unequalled...
This is so very gorgeous, so sensitive, ambient and deep... Beautiful.

Who wants perfection? This is human - much more important.
heart stoppingly beautiful. like you have to breathe gently so the sound of your breath doesn't interrupt your hearing of the song...
the most beautiful storyteller!
Exactly my friend, I mess around in a band making genral noise, thinkin it sounds pretty cool. Then I listen to this and realise I wish I had a tenth of these guy's talent!

Just rediscovered elbow what a talented man.

It's inspired...
Just saying, Elbow is the band, Guy Garvie is the singer :)
I know but thanks for pointing it out. :)
