Yes when I saw the version where they performed it with the choir and orchestra, I couldn't stop crying, dammit! In fact, thinking about it now is choking me up. Arg.
"I plant the kind of kiss, that wouldn't wake a baby" I've been doing this to my wife at 5:30 every morning for the last 30 years as i leave for work, it goes by so quickly
I remember watching on TV. I went to their gig in Edinburgh, Queens Hall, 2005, 800 or so capacity on the back of LOTFW roughly 1 week before my 19th birthday, I had never before and never will feel anything like that at a gig ever again. The emotion in the music and the feelings they generate especially in live shows is on another level.
One Day Like this is one Elbow song that I ALWAYS put on in morning where I really can't be arsed amd it always put a smile on my face, more so the louder I have the column up lol. Poor neighbours sometimes must hate me. Lol. This while live session is spectacular really. They've taken down 'One Day Like This' from UA-cam, it used to be up on here and other sites, but now it's nowhere at all to be found, like it didn't happen. Which is such a shame cos ot was utter perfection and jaw dropoingky good with the full orchestra amd choir. Their version of 'Lonelyness of a Tower Crane Driver' from this same live orchestral session at the BBC studios is another truly remarkable version of that song, everything I listen it strikes me just how good not just Elbow are as a band but with the added BBC Symphony Orchestra amd that amazing choir too. Breathtaking really. I'd recommend yiu do a UA-cam search for 'Abbey Road Live Sessions' here on UA-cam. Amazing UK artists (mainly) with the odd US band/artist who get invited to do a live session at Abbey Rd in the same studio the Beatles recorded their albums at. Most bands have arrangements of their songs made so the BBC Chamber orchestra can join them, totally elevtaes the songs. The Abbey Rd Live Sessions are invite only and they've gotta do it in 1 take (obv they get to rehearse n prob do multiple takes b4 choosing the perfect one) but jas ro be a 1 take with no post recording editing or effects added and they're not allowed ro use autotune either. Some ro check out.... Biffy Clyro- Spaces (Abbey Rd Live session with orchestra) Paulo Nuttini - Iron Sky (Abbey Rd Live session) The singer Adele was at Abbey Rd the day Paulo recorded his session there and dashed to his studio to see n hear him record the song I just mentioned and then she posted it on her twitter saying it was the best live performance she'd ever heard n witnessed. Very high praise id say! lol Also, Birdy - Wings (Abbey Rd live) London Grammer - Lord its a feeling (Abbey road live session with orchestra) Architects - Animals (Abbey Rd Live with orchestra). They're a quite heavy metal band but adding the orchestra to that mix is somwthing else really. Not a huge metal fan personally but this songs awesome! Erm, also another to check out too is Bastille & Hans Zimmer - Pompei XXIII (The composer Hans Zimmer arranged the orchestral music & reworked the orig song. slowed it down a little and uses the Welsh Symphony Orchestra & choir, can see the joy in the lead singers face as it all builds to a crecendo. Really superb version of their song. I think I've given yiu and recommended about 6 songs now haha. All very different artists/bands and genrees too. I really hope you take a note of the ones mentioned.as I say just UA-cam search 'Abbey Road Live Sessions'. All I mention will pop up in results except bastille and Hans zinmer that youll need a seperate search for that 1. ENJOY! I think ur in for a wee (well HUGE) treat! lol LET ME KNOW WHAT U THINK! 😊😉😜
this song has filled me with so much emotion, its made me realise things move on and you gotta let people and the past go, but that doesn't mean they/it should be forgotten, wish them a happy life, even if they don't know you are wishing it for them.
This song takes my breath away each time I hear it. I listened to it the night I went into labor with my first child, and remember thinking "...everything has changed". Thank you Elbow.
Incredible I was fortunate to see them live, at House of Blues in Chicago, two tours ago. They played this I cried. So fortunate to have seen them. I went to show alone and pray I get to see them again.
I totally agree... I first heard it while my wife and kids were out of town. I've always loved my wife--she's the kind of love Guy sings about--but suddenly I felt this overwhelming joy take over, and I couldn't wait for her to get back home! Just to see her face, even... I don't know what it is about this song, but it's by far one of my favorites of all time. Can't wait for Elbow to get to the states so I can see them live!
It was supposed to be me and my fiancés wedding song. We didn’t make it. This song is so beautiful but this is the first time I’ve been able to listen to it in 4 years since we separated
Saw them perform this song on Tonight with Jimmy Fallon. I was drawn in and hypnotized by the pure beauty of the song. I purchase every cd there after. This song has so much emotion in it. It's very rare that a band or song can touch your soul and spirit so deeply.
My daughter and her new husband bought me back the Manchester Bee scarf. I'm so happy. I'ma bee gurl and love me Manchester sounds. Bless you Manchester. Love from Australia. xxxxx
He’s an incredible vocalist live, he was on pitch perfectly in 2009 at Bencassim when I saw them play live there years back and he was still pitch perfect last year too 👌
Funny how I remember that as I was the only one that was adamant I wanted to watch them play and all my group of English friends went off to see other bands, but EVERYONE drifted back to me to watch their set it was so good ❤
I love the way it builds and the atmosphere it creates. That little piano riff although very simple is a great little floating sound. Saw them at Sheffield supporting U2 and just loved their slow ballads.
i tell ya, im a death metal guy and i saw them do this for the first time on tv at the glastonbury coverage. i was thinking the beginning piano was a bit repettitive but by the time the strings came in my eyes were watering. absoloutely beautiful. Not the hardest song to play instrument wise, but you have to be a really special musician to write something like this. Amazing isnt the word, its amazing what a soundscape thy create with all the instruments and vocals. love em!
Like some of my friends i was an Elbow fan on some songs and not others but this album but more so the DVD of this concert that came included changed me in many ways and certainly made me devour all the back catalog of Elbow stuff i could. Still after all these years when i listen to this version the girl singing Soprano just melts me... such talent, vocal range and incredible arrangement. Just watch the woman's expression to the left of her to see how great she thinks it is too. Thanks for uploading.
This is such an amazing song. It speaks volumes, as do all of Elbow's lyrics - some of their songs tickle my chuckle muscles, some tug at the heart strings and some just make me want to hold on tightly to the one I love. I have the album version of Mirrorball on my ipod "YEAH!" playlist but I REALLY like this version.
Lyrics to one of the greatest love songs I plant the kind of kiss that wouldn't wake a baby On the self-same face that wouldn't let me sleep And the street is singing with my feet And dawn gives me a shadow I know to be taller All down to you, dear Everything has changed My sorry name has made it to graffiti I was looking for someone to complete me Not anymore, dear Everything has changed And we made the moon our mirrorball The streets, an empty stage The city sirens violins Everything has changed So lift off love Lift off love We took the town to town last night We kissed like we invented it And now I know what every step is for To lead me to your door Know that while you sleep Everything has changed We made the moon our mirrorball The streets, an empty stage The city sirens violins Everything has changed Everything has changed Everything has changed So lift off love Lift off love (down to you, dear) Lift off love (down to you, dear) Lift off love (down to you, dear) Lift off love (down to you, dear) Lift off love (down to you, dear)
My fiancé introduced me to Elbow's music, and the more I hear this song in particular the more it describes how I feel ever since our first date 14 months ago. I love this!
This song and performance is perfect! I was introduced to the song just over a week ago and it’s speaking to me on so many emotional levels. Simply beautiful ❤️
An epic bad performing in a legendary studio. This is absolutely top class music. The orchestral accompaniment completes the track in a way I hadn't realised until I had heard it. Bloody first class!
I've only just discovered these guys and I'm obsessed! This is a truly amazing concert, so incredibly executed but with a heart of gold. Truly powerful.
Phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal. Off the charts. I love this band so very, very much. Met them before a gig in LA last year; we talked for about 10-15 minutes about the album. Guy remembered me from 2 years earlier, when they toured "Leaders" at the same venue; "We've met before, 'aven't we?" Solid guys, unbelievable writing and performance. The next elbow record can't come soon enough.
Siete fantastici.
simply wonderful... !! Imagine standing in THAT studio with THAT orchestra - with all those musical souls that stood there before you.. and nailing it.. like a pro..
Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful how things change good goes bad bad goes good the rebirth of life the soothing warmth of this song makes ya fall again in the mind and then ya remember the end puts ya back to reality 🫶❤️✌️
If you have ever floated home, feet not touching the ground, after falling in love. That is what this song is for me. Every sound and motion is a new and beautiful thing. Everything has changed.
This is just the epitome of how powerful music can be! It touches something inside you and really makes your hair stand on end! Elbow are just an awesome band and Guy Garvey is such an amazing song writer!! Get the DVD/CD Box set now from HMV!! Its the best purchase I have made probably EVER!!! I just cant stop watching it!

God bless you. You're a good man.
Still listening in May 2019. I'm sure that one day people will realise the that this is one of the greatest concerts of all time.
I remember watching it live, sitting forward in my chair, locked to the screen, hardly believing what I was seeing and hearing
Feb.14 ,2020.Happy Valentine's Day everybody.

Recently discovered elbow.....omg what a revelation!!! Have the CD on permanent loop, guy Garvey has such a fantastic voice.

One of the greatest love songs ever written.
THE greatest. And I'll die on that hill! I've believed for years that it's the most romantic song I've ever heard.
Could you imagine what it must have been like to be in that room , or even in the orchestra ?
Total bliss .
Career defining moment
Would have given up a testicle to be in that room
I know right!
Me and my wife's first dance. Celebrating a year married today :)
Congrats
*my wife and I's
I can only hope that everyone has a walk like this in their life. Mine, I couldn't feel the ground, I was floating the whole way home. Masterpiece.
The best thing about this whole performance are all the moments when the choir and orchestra realise what's happening.
Love it.
“And now I know what every step is for, to lead to me to your door” Beautiful turn of phrase, and a real romantic song.
"We kissed like we invented it"...that's such a good line. Damn.
And "we took the town to town last night" that precedes the kissing line. Both sheer poetry.
@@SuperAllanjames the tram. We took the tram.
@@kildogery I think it is Town to Town, - well that’s what lip reading him says to me…
@@ILICCOELIA turns out I've been hearing it wrong. I always imagined them snogging on the tram into Manchester city centre 🤣
I stand corrected.
@@kildogery now you mention it, snogging on a tram in Manchester might be a better lyric. Takes me back to my University days! 😉 keep well sir.

Mate this comment just broke me, pure truth
That has to be the best live performance I have ever heard. It is unbelievable how good it is.
This song takes my breath away each time I hear it. I listened to it the night I went into labor with my first child, and remember thinking "...everything has changed". Thank you Elbow.
This song reminds me of when my daughter was born, still brings a tear to my eye
The lyric: 'Know that while you sleep / Everything has changed'. So unbearably beautiful and unbelievably powerful. 😍
This was the song I kept skipping to get to Grounds for Divorce faster. Facepalm! This song is beyond anything. Definitely in my top 3 Elbow songs.
Incredible I was fortunate to see them live, at House of Blues in Chicago, two tours ago. They played this I cried. So fortunate to have seen them. I went to show alone and pray I get to see them again.
Same! Never listened to it until my daughter shared this version with me!.
"I plant the kind of kiss that wouldn't wake a baby". This is one of my favourite lines of all time!
This performance is insanely perfect… the hairs on my arm rise, and the goosebumps follow every time I am lucky enough to hear this song.

So beautiful and haunting. I can’t believe I’m just now discovering this band in 2024. ❤
It is now July 2022 and I have just listened to them play Mirrorball at the LYTHAM Festival. Sounds just as good now. This is great music. 😎👍
Saw them in Cardiff last year, post pandemic what a brilliant night, some of the greatest songs of all time are sung by this band !
such a great song and message - his voice is truly remarkable
My daughter and her new husband bought me back the Manchester Bee scarf. I'm so happy. I'ma bee gurl and love me Manchester sounds. Bless you Manchester. Love from Australia. xxxxx
Guy sings pitch perfect, almost identical to the studio record. Can’t say I know many bands or singers that do that

I wish I loved someone enough to write a song like this.... hopefully, theres still a chance
It’s so incredibly special when it happens. Hopefully you won’t lose them like I did.
Any luck??
My god, those backing vocals add such a dynamite element. Brilliant.
Just speaks to the quality of the composition and the beautiful, heartfelt performance. These guys are are musical geniuses!
this song gives me chills anyway, with the orchestra & choir, it's even more chill worthy.
Seriously, I haven't bothered to look up the lyrics to a band's songs in ages. Thanks Elbow for renewing my musical passion.

Lyrics to one of the greatest love songs
I plant the kind of kiss that wouldn't wake a baby
On the self-same face that wouldn't let me sleep
And the street is singing with my feet
And dawn gives me a shadow I know to be taller
All down to you, dear
Everything has changed
My sorry name has made it to graffiti
I was looking for someone to complete me
Not anymore, dear
Everything has changed
And we made the moon our mirrorball
The streets, an empty stage
The city sirens violins
Everything has changed
So lift off love
Lift off love
We took the town to town last night
We kissed like we invented it
And now I know what every step is for
To lead me to your door
Know that while you sleep
Everything has changed
We made the moon our mirrorball
The streets, an empty stage
The city sirens violins
Everything has changed
Everything has changed
Everything has changed
So lift off love
Lift off love (down to you, dear)
Lift off love (down to you, dear)
Lift off love (down to you, dear)
Lift off love (down to you, dear)
Lift off love (down to you, dear)
is this a goodbye love song? something about things had changed and so he go away and wishes the best for the lady?
