It's nice that your father is 92 years young. My own father is 97 years old, but he is living in a Senior's Home with his 92 year old 3rd. wife. His first one was my deceased mother.

I’ve felt really lucky to follow along with this series. You might not realise it, but you’re a godsend to anyone who didn’t have a da themselves to teach them these things. From those of us who are aspiring to your level of handiness, and wanting to fix up our communities - thank you. Not only do you explain your process clearly and give useful tips about farming and repair, you do the same teaching about what it means to be a hardworking, humble, and dedicated man.
I hope your own father recovers quickly, and that he can take a well deserved break without guilt knowing that his son is setting the best kind of example for the next generation.

Good work, love your abilities! The door frame concrete ends are to keep the timber doorframe off the ground, keeping them dry, and the spike holds the frame.

That is so great to have lights going through the building. It really makes a structure come alive and feel homey. Very interesting to see how much different this house is built versus ones in the USA.

To keep the kitty door closed, drill a hole at the base on the inside and put a nail (or in my husband’s case-a drill bit) and it can’t be opened from outside. We had a cat who could unlock the door with the tab lock. He also eventually started pulling the drill bit out of the hole. Darn cat.🐈

I hope your dad has a speedy recovery, I know things take longer to heal at that age. Congratulations on reaching 100,000 Subscribers 🎉. Great job getting the lighting into the cottage even if it is temporary. The weather here has been better, we have had nearly two weeks with only a small amount of rain and the ground is now drying out. I hope you get your fertiliser spread, that is going to be a lot more work with the quad over using a tractor but needs must.

Wish your dad a speedy recovery. Falls are a nightmare. My grandfather who is 91 came back to bed from the bathroom and fell onto a carpeted floor and broke 6 ribs and punctured his lung. He spent 2 weeks in ICU and 1 week in the Hospital ward and 3 weeks in respite care. On the mend. The doors and light make a huge difference. Just need smoke out the chimney now!

I have a Land Commision house built in 1952 which is mass concrete. All the heads of the door frames were built into the concrete the same as yours. Instead of concrete lintels there are two lengths of box section steel about two inches up into the concrete. Yours may be the same. If they are over the doors they will be over the windows as well. I'm renovating mine and getting close to finishing it. Lots of hard work but if you can do it yourself you'll save a fortune. All you need is time and lots of it. Best of luck and I'll certainly be watching it

Very exciting to see the next steps towards this project. I found you because of this house but I’ve watched every week over the last year because of your humor & ingenuity around the farm.
Wish your Dad is back home with you soon. My Dad is 90 on Tuesday and he’s only a month after breaking his shoulder in a fall. My Dad worked hard his whole life and it’s tough seeing him suffer but it’s been great being the one to care for him
Adrian, you’re really a jack of all trades & your videos make me laugh. Can’t say that’s ever happened for me on a farming channel
Wishing you a warm & dry few weeks. You all need it ✌️💚

The spikes at the bottom of the reveals were to hold a door frame in place, at that POINT,, that’s why also there was concrete up a few inches on the bottom to keep the timber off the ground and from rotting. Older doors used be sunk into the ground and used always fail at that point. A lot of building work during the 50s through to the 90s was trial and error. Keep up the good work

I’m sorry your father had a fall and broke something, but it’s good he seems to be making the best of it.🤗
I grew up on a farm that’s different from yours, so watching the farming on your channel interests me. But I came here because I saw you uncovering the brambles from the little cottage one day. So, I’m pleased to see you get started on the building part of it. Your unreasonable happiness at the electricity was contagious lol🤗 How something that small, in a little abandoned cottage half way across the world, could make me so happy is the magic of the internet. It may do bad things, but it does good as well.❤️🤗🐝

I remember having a discussion with my dad one time about what we thought was the most important invention of the 20th century. We settled on the lightbulb, because it turned night into day. Hope your dad is keeping better Adrian, and looking forward to watching more of this restoration. There is something special about restoring an old place; it's a labour of love and adding to the history of those who lived in it before you. Have a think about keeping those lightswitches as well; they're a link to the past of the cottage.

Hello Adrian, temporary lighting good job Just want to say you need to change the outside blue female socket you are going to supply the lights with to a 16 amp male inlet .The reason the plug you are going to connect to the socket you have will have exposed pins which will be live and someone disconnecting it with the gen on could get a shock or worse.

Adrian, the blue socket you put on the outside of the house for connection to the generation should be a “inlet” type and not a socket, to connect your generator in the current set up you will need a lead with a male plug on both ends and could cause a situation where one end is plugged in and you have bare live pins at the other end

Plug the lead into the wall socket before plugging into the generator. And unplug from the generator before unplugging from the wall socket.

Your channel popped up on my feed. Subscribed and just got caught up on your work to the old cottage and I'm loving the vision. Even learned a little about cattle. I'm working on a small 2 bedroom cinderblock house built in 1945 in Birmingham, AL about 2hrs from where I live in Atlanta, GA. So far I've put a new roof on and some temporary windows to keep the elements and people out. As you said! No rush to complete it. Some of the work I can do myself, some I don't want to do or cant do like electric. I've been to Scotland, always wanted to visit Ireland. Years ago I watched the John Wayne movie "The Quiet Man" film in Conk, Ireland I believe. You said you're in Northern Ireland, what's the closest town to you? Cant wait to see more!

I like the looks of the doors. They look like they belong on that house. Lights are important to have so you can work on the house when it is cloudy. Sorry to hear about your dads fall. Hopefully it will not be a long hospital stay.

I love how you show the struggles and not just a super edited version. It's like watching my Dad fix things as I used to do. So glad your Dad is ok. I lost mine when he was 92 from COPD and even though that was in 2010, I still miss him. Looking forward to you getting the fertilizing done and I am hoping for better weather for you!
