One of my favorite habits is taking a bath with my husband 1-2 times per week. Similar to a walk, it strengthens the bonds of the marriage, keeps us comfortable with each other, and using epsom salts, makes our bodies feel better too.

We have a shoes off house. Years ago, an Indian friend asked, 'Is your home your temple then?" I liked that phrase and use it in invitations. When visiting people I have to steel myself to ignore all the outdoor shoes being worn! I am British by the way and we had slippers but also wore shoes in the house. Best wishes

A lot of these habits are very common in Europe too. Shopping for fresh groceries daily, taking off shoes after you enter the house, opening the windows for “lüften”.
What habit I took from my Chinese husband is: changing clothes right after I come back home. And my personal new habit is: cleaning the bathroom after every use (morning and evening). 😊

Same here. I actually change my clothes not so much because of culture but because I have cats. Firstly I don't want to have cat hair everywhere and I feel like it's better when working with people who might be allergic. And when I come home I change into something more comfy which also has the benefit that I don't sit on furniture in the same clothes I had on in public transport.

I actually lived in Japan for a while and there are so many parts of the Japanese culture that have changed my life, health and perspective for good. For example:
    1) Drinking healthy tea instead of soft drinks or water.
    2) Washing rice before cooking!
    3) "Shouganai" which means "it can't be helped!", a phrase they use instead of complaining or thinking negatively, for example when there's a long waiting-line or something negative that you cannot control happens.
    4) Showing respect to people older than you, as well as your parents, employers or teachers, oh and even peers who are just more experienced than you in something.
    5) Not eating till you're stuffed but till you're around 80% full (I can't say I always follow this, but it is a very good rule xD)
    6) Humility, taking responsibility and apologizing when you've wronged someone. Not bragging or complimenting yourself outwardly.
    7) The intentionality - for example how every movement has a purpose in traditional Japanese tea ceremonies (Sadou)
I could go on forever 😂😂

I didn't live there yet, but I'm fairly often in Japan (3-4 times per year) and I just love the way how things of everyday life can be ritualized. It gives you more awareness of your own habits and mindset and that even the little things can bring joy. Everytime I return home, I try to experience my everyday life and surroundings with more awareness. My ability to enjoy the small things at home like taking care of my garden or enjoying a good tea, definitely increased.

The habit I developed that has helped me the most is after breakfast I plan the evenings dinner and prep as much of it as I can and then I 100% clean my kitchen, unload the dishwasher, wipe counters and stove etc. I run out of energy late in the day and used to have anxiety about 4 or 5 o'clock thinking what are we having for dinner.

One thing I like to do almost every day is to write down at least 1 thing I'm grateful for that day. This is challenging to do when I have tough days but right after I do it, it completely changes my mood and I go to sleep feeling lighter and fortunate to have lived another day.

One habit I always had, then lost for a while, and embracing back since almost 2yrs now, is to take every day some time to enjoy nature. Even, if you live in a very busy city, the flower that is cracking from the tiles, or a nice balcony, or a tree, or any animal, for as small as an ant, is amazing to look at. Gives an instant peace of mind, gentleness and happiness boost moment.
And if I only can, I watch everytime the sunset and thanks for the daylight and warm it gave.
Little things goes far and have a huge impact we don't often consider on a daily rush.
    Cheers from Poland!

Four things- Gratitude- three things. Prayer- some people I’m praying for.

I’m originally from Indiana too! I live in LA with my wife now whom is first generation Thai. Something I noticed is how sweet her family is to each other, like ridiculously gentle in speaking to one another, not just nice- but like overly crazy sweet. I think if I saw a white American family like that it’d be so weird to me but it’s definitely rubbed off on me and I was recently told by a stranger that I’m the calmest person they’ve ever met which is a huge change to me.

I love to pair the habit of airing the home first thing in the morning with the habit of making all the beds, folding the throw blankets in the living room, fluffing all the pillows and picking up every room to it’s tidy state (because most of the time I am too tired for it the night before).

We lived in Shanghai for 5 years and I noticed everyone stuck to a steady schedule for arrival, lunch, and departure. At lunch, everyone left at the same time (at 12:00 noon) and took exactly a 1 hour lunch break and returned to work at 1:00 pm. They would often eat together and socialize. In the US, so many of colleagues would eat lunch at their desks alone and continue working. I realized then that’s important and beneficial to take a lunch break, so my husband and I would often meet and take a walk together. We’ve been back in the US for a few years now, but I still make it a point to take a break from work during my lunch break. I also try to follow their approach and end the work day at a reasonable time.

In Europe lunch it is the bigger mail in the day, and longer. Its a menu with first, second dish and dessert. With less than an hour you dont have time to cook and eat, and if you have a family you have to eat with them etc. An hour is not much time, in same places is 1.30. And eating in your desk sounds dirty, xD.

Putting my kitchen to bed at night is a habit that I’ve learned benefits morning me more than anything else. I clean the kitchen well. Loading the dishwasher, making sure everything washable is off of the stove and counters, pots and pans dried and put away, degreased cook top etc. I’m always so happy to have a clean space when I wake up in the morning to make breakfast. It’s a habit that if I compromise on, I’m ALWAYS regretful the next day.

Spend 15-30 minutes a day in a quiet atmosphere. I enjoy time in my cool basement listening to soothing music but it could easily be outside under a tree listening to the wind and birds. Other values I've adopted (live in Thailand long term): Giving so much grace- a mai pen rai attitude (it's okay, it doesn't matter); giving little gifts to friends often to show you thought of them (especially after you travel or just something small they like, like a fruit), respect for elders, -bending the head a little as you walk by to show deference, teaching children care and politeness toward adults, respecting others by using a low voice outside/on public transport and covering the mouth when speaking on the phone in public, being a generous host (definitely with you on the no shoes inside the home). Thanks for these great reminders of how we can adopt so much from the good in each other's cultures.

I just found your channel. I am Indonesian and almost everything you say we practice in our daily life. I just want to add a habit that our family here and most other Indonesians do: smile more and be grateful more. I mean for everything. For good or bad. Even if bad things happen in your life, smiling and being grateful that they happened with a purpose, will make you a better person and always think positively in life. Even smiling at someone you meet on the street is also what we usually do here. You can brighten someone else's day without even realizing it. Well, even though we don't smile all the time at strangers, because it would feel weird but you get what I mean right? Thanks for sharing all this on your channel. I hope you and your family are always healthy and happy. Greetings from Indonesia.

Speaking as someone with over a decade in healthcare... #8 "Move Your Body" is really, really, REALLY important. Many bodily systems (especially the lymphatic system) are dependent upon motion to some degree just to function, much less function well. Even something as prosaic as sitting in a chair, like in an office or classroom, can become less than healthy if done for too long. Much of the human body is a "use it or lose it" proposition, so... Move! :-)

I loved this video! As an Italian, I' m used to eat fresh food, our cuisin is very basic and we don't use much canned or processed food. My parents didn't teach me to take off my shoes at the entrance, but WE ABSOLUTELY do it now, as well as changing our clothes and wearing home clothes. I always open the windows and in winter this is a big issue with my husband, who's like you😂. I love Asian culture and please make more videos like this!

same in Portugal, we keep the windows open untill dark (unless no one is home); the markets with fresh food are very common although younger generations prefer the supermarkets.
      most people change into slippers and "home clothes" when they get home but not at the entrance (guests walk with their shoes in the home);
excercise in public was not common but now it's very normal to see people running or using excercise machines at public parks. In the past and still now, people would walk everywhere

As a German, a lot of these habits were familiar to me. Except we did use quite a lot of canned food still and I had to improve on that in my cooking as an adult. My Irish husband laughed at me for insisting that 'shoes live in shoeheim' when we first got together but he got on board easily enough. In turn, I've learned to appreciate sodabread and storytelling.

I agree about the fresh air. When I lived in South Korea, my school would open all of the windows in the classroom in the dead of winter. I started getting into the habit of doing that. I still air out my room weekly.

I was born in Iran and lived there till I was 16. Respect for people who are older and have had more experience is valued in the Persian culture. It could be family, neighbors, teachers, or coworkers. It is specially important to spend time with your older grand parents and being in their presence. I remember my great-grandmother was the oldest person in our family. Other family members would visit with her and ask for her advice if they were faced with an issue in their life and they felt her insight would be helpful to them.
Also, teachers are respected because they are educators. At the end of the schools year we would thank them for their efforts.

As recently as the 1960's/70s, these things were also commonplace in the American South, in both black and white households. I am not sure exactly what brought about the changes to this. The 70s seemed to bring more mothers working outside of the home, more divorce, and more adults focusing on themselves as individuals, rather than as members of a family. This is not to say that there is not a time and place for these things, just seems like these would be even more reason to seek out others with life experience and time to share-like grandparents, aunts, and uncles. As someone who spent as much time as possible with extended family growing up, it seems odd that younger folk are eager to dismiss their elders as 'being out of touch' or 'not relevant', then consider it remarkable and fabulous when social media tells us ways to save money or grow a garden or any number of things that used to be just a way of life.

I was born and raised in the Philippines. I came in the US when I was 19. My grandma always said, “don’t place your purse on the floor”. She said that your purse is where you house your money or valuables and by putting it down on the floor - you’re lowering the energy of welcoming the abundance in your life. You suppose to always carry it up high or place it elevated.
I’m surprised when I see some women place their purses on the public bathroom floor - it’s very unsanitary. I think it’s a double whammy for a chance to have life’s unfortunate events. 😅

My mom is 85. She opens the doors and windows wide first thing in morning to let out stale air. She has winter and summer house slippers. She changes into indoor clothes when she’s back from outing. She walks in the morning and collects edibles on her way around the neighborhood. She makes dough and skin and cooks from scratch. Grocery stores are with 3 minutes driving so we buy enough for a week. She’s strict in keeping house dust and clutter free. Chewing and eating slow is a given because this is how the flavor can be savored and appreciated (also showing respect to the one who made the food). I am retired and single. Other habits non asian I believe are: having lemon water in the morning and having a tablespoon of evoo with lemon! It’s very cleansing! I feel that some of these habits are also European and Latin American, like eat slow and enjoy your food, as eating is also a social event!

I grew up in Eastern Ontario Canada and we always removed our shoes at the door of homes. ALWAYS. Some businesses even have slippers at the entrance for you if they expect you to remove your shoes there too. And it’s a common thing for older family members to carry house slippers or shoes with them.

Stoßlüften in Germany is done only to exchange the air. In winter time it takes just a few minutes until it is considerably colder in the room. It reduces the moisture in the air. And dry air heats up much quicker with much less energy than humid air. That actually saves money. (there have been studies done on this). If you let your walls cool out (opening the windows for longer than 30 - 60 minutes, depending on outside temperatures!), moisture will kling to the cold walls and mold can build even then!
I love Stoßlüften and the fresh air you have afterwards, but I do take care not to let the room cool down too much.

Removing shoes at the front door. Letting the energy flow in the house, and opening the windows. I LOVE this, thank you for this video. I get planters fasciitis so i can not go without shoes. I have to have good support or it flairs up.
But a habit i developed was rotating everything i use. I got this idea because i used to give dinner parties for a wealthy gentleman every Fri night.
The person before me used the top china plates over & over. The beautiful china had faded out. But there was a large stack & the ones starting in the middle of the stack were as crisp in color as if they were new! So every time i put the dishes back up i would place them on the bottom of the stack.
This soon became a habit to always rotate everything. Glasses, cloth napkins, towels, washcloths, underwear, shoes. Everything.
It makes everything last much longer. Stay brighter etc.
One note, i do clean my shoes every morning spraying & wiping them inside and outside before i put on the next pair to rotate of course.

Love these! Especially the orderly entryway one (goals ngl). I am American but have travelled a bit so have acquired some of these habits over time. One that I actually got from childhood in Minnesota is taking shoes off at the door. We had wall to wall carpet and my mom was a stickler for clean carpet. We had one relative who would not do it which made her bananas (understandably).
One habit I try to do lately is clean the kitchen while I'm cooking, so that I basically sit down to eat and there are no dishes except the ones on the table. It's also an ADHD hack. Whenever I am preparing food/coffee/waiting for something to cook, I use that time productively so that when I'm done, I have very little left to do. Has really improved my quality of life
