Thanks for watching! I know drums are not my normal type of video, but I thought some of you could benefit from this. I'm a big believer in maximizing what little time you may have to create, and get your ideas out to the world. And for me, having an e kit up and ready to go has really helped that process for my band!
Also, if you haven't, subscribe!!
thanks man
A great video and exactly the decision I am currently trying to make (Alesis or Donner). Which kit does your drummer prefer? He looks tall and I'm 6ft 2in and the Donner kit looks better for taller people. Thanks
This content isn't available at the moment - Facebook.
From my research Donner DED-200 drum module has no midi off, making it useless for midi recording. The Nitro wins out.
I love the drums so much! I'm a 20 year old boy with adhd and autism, and I think the drums are my passion now😊❤️
I actually appreciate you doing this one. Would have like to hear it in one of you awesome mixes.
Maybe you have and you just didn't know it! 🤔 Honestly though, I use this to record midi and then use Perfect Drums in my mixes, so chances are you have heard this (sort of) 🙌
Thank you! It's been so hard picking one!! Ill definitely keep all of this in mind!!
🙌
@@TaylorDanley This video has made me decide, I'm getting the Donner, they are so comparable sound wise that I am going off of how quickly I can start just out of the box. Donner provides more for the price then Alesis. Thank you for this video :)
@@idontwantahandlebutok how do u like the donner? Did u get the 3 cymbal set...4 cymbal set or the starter kit? I wish they had a starter kit with 4 cymbals but they dont. Any advice..or regrets
@@timmartinez9901 Haven't bought it yet sadly, will definitely let you know if I get it soon!
@@idontwantahandlebutok I'm getting the Nitro today & will let ya know what I think!
What’s with the tattoos ?
Thank you for the video - I just ordered my Donner 8 piece July 25 - I'm patiently waiting . . .
Donner has just impressed me with everything they make. Even their ridiculously inexpensive guitar pedals.
thank you, this was very helpful!
It's awesome to see good electric drums at such great prices. My ministry just purchased a Nitro mesh and we use Mainstage 3 to run our drums via midi. It's actually awesome to have all of the heads with room for expansion and flexibility on our sound. The best part is that I can fold the kit up, let our drummer practice on it for a week, and quickly set it up for service in about 5 minutes. If you're doing mobile church, are gigging in lots of inconsistent environments, have limited space on your sound board, or are teaching drums, these kIts are awesome! Especially if you can pair them with a good DAW or midi controller software to tweak the sound.
I'm so glad i found your channel! Great vid! Can't wait to see more (:
Welcome aboard!
Thank you. A vid that I DEFINITELY NEEDED.
The longer this Covid stuff goes on
The more I become a one man band
A one man studio
One man Engineer
Guitarist turned Bassist
ETC..,
Once again.
Thank you.
Same! glad it helped.
OMG SAME 🤣🤣, my friends keep making fun of me because I became a one man band at this point.
Same here
Well said m8
Same! Lol
I appreciate you so much for this!!
Thanks for the review! I'm looking at both of these sets and would purchase the Donner but have read about issues with MIDI which you've also pointed out. Did you ever solve the issues with MIDI? Anybody else use it successfully with MIDI recording?
When I bought my Alesis set it came with headphones , drum seat , monitor and a few other accessories. I purchase my set about a year ago maybe the package set changed. The kick pad is to small like you mentioned tho. Great review.
Thanks for the video..definitely the alesis I'm leaning towards.
Your video was great ...i just brought a Donner 200 but still waiting on delivery
Very informative thanks
Received it? What’s your thoughts on it?
@@pieterjansenvanrensburg7322 it's taking AWHILE getting used to it I'm only interested in kit one ilike it I'm GONNA out grow it but for now i like it .....for the price
It's been allmost 2 month with the kit got a better bass pedal but i am allready thinking of getting a better kit around the 1000 dollar range
@@RubenDrums812 hello, sorry for responding to a year old comment. Did your donner drum kit ever break? I've been seing videos of the snare and kick being broken after some time, I am interested in buying one myself.
Shout out to all the guys named Taylor, absolute legends!!
YAY Me
@@Taylor-xi6eb yes!!!
Cool video. I've been considering to buy the donner for 3 months. I do have a request, I'd like to see the cymbal muting feature on the donner setup. Thanks
We just got the Donner for my 6yr. Old. I am impressed with the sound. Once I get flicking sticks and lost in the game of it, I stop thinking electronic. In that demo the other had more of an eDrum sound. I am sure there are options on the head unit, but out of the box, the Donner has great acoustic like sound. I was super happy to get a pretty decent stool and headphones with the deal. I like the white screen heads too. It has an acoustic like resemblance that I hope my daughter will appreciate of she ever gets on an acoustic set. Oh, before I purchased, I took into account that the kit had more space for a double kit if we ever wanted to add on. Glad to hear the frame is a bit sturdier on the Donner. The kit will move around some when we need space and we don’t want to have any frame issues. I think the only other thing we would get for it is a set of smaller sticks with nylon tips. We are pretty stoked on our purchase. It’s added a nice vibe to the household.
Thank you for the video!
The donner has a better sound especially with the double kick
I have the Donner kit. I ran a splitter off the bass drum quarter inch cable and bought a second Simmons bass drum module for double bass. I have a double pedal but the Donner bass drum module just couldn't keep up with it. Super happy with the rest of the kit though.
Double triggering or not sensitive enough? I was wondering if it was just the pad I happened to get..
@@TaylorDanley it wasn't sensitive enough. And as far as the double triggering, I know exactly what you're talking about, I loosened the bass drum head and the springs on the pedal and that seemed to help.
Wow, I had the opposite experience, mine was way too sensitive! 🤔 but again that was for really fast double bass parts 🤷♂️ we ended up buying a pad that's made for fast double bass, which seems kinda necessary for our application
@@TaylorDanley I'll be honest with you my foot's not as fast as your drummer's! Ha! I can roll the bass drums but I can't blast fo' shit.
Great video, I’m 13 trying to learn drums. Got my first drum kit and I’ve only had it for three days. I’m having a blast. Im thinking about getting my own E Kit, so I’m currently saving up money for one. This video was super helpful, thank you!
rock on young person, rock on
Thank you for this! It won’t be for a while, but quarantine 2020 got me to get a guitar, and it made me remember all the reasons I stopped before. It just wasn’t the instrument for me. I’ve always thought drums were cool, and my friend recently scored rock band 4 drums online and playing it made me realize that drumming was something I might be interested in and found myself enjoying it more than I ever did with guitar
Thanks for the great side by side! I'll going with the Donner. Unknown brand but I'll take my chances. Better sounds.
Are you happy with your choice?
I love the faces your drummer is making while playing the cheesy stuff. So great!
You should see it when he’s playing full clip death metal 🤣 nice to see ya Brian!!
@@TaylorDanley I bet it’s awesome! Love your channel, brotha! Takes me back to when we were little and made those cheesy stop animation films with toys.
😂 that’s why I started it originally… then it just kinda turned into this
I've been teetering on buying the Donner because I've been trying to find a video that better demonstrates double bass potential and this has done it! Great review!
I use a double pedal no real issues. Also the pads have zero damage no matter how hard I kick. Had it for about a year.
I have an Alesis Nitro, added another dual zone pad and cymbal, programmed the hihat pedal to play kick, and am just about to add a Pad Pro 8 and run them both through a mixer. I do wish the module had an SD port. The pad Pro 8 does have an SD port so I can run any sample into it. I should be getting that in January. I have had the set about six months and it can take a beating. I know nothing about the Donner set, but if anyone decides on the Alesis they will not be let down.
You must get the penguin to come on the channel and jam out with you! What a phenomenal collaboration! 🤘
😂
@@TaylorDanley In all seriousness though I really appreciate the review, and the honesty! I’m gonna snag one to keep at my fiancés house so I can still play while she is on her phone lookin at Tik Toks (I’m not a clock kinda guy)...I don’t do the Internets or the Tweeters and Instant-telegrams, so I’m definitely a boomer. I still call it the information super highway. Regardless, thoroughly enjoyed this! Thank you again sir!
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it! 🙌
My alesis kit is amazing.before i had double bass pedals I programmed my hi hat pedal as another kick..which gave me double bass..now that I have double bass pedals no problem at all with the pad and lining it up..the Donner kit sounds too distorted.
I'm looking at these for my son, thanks for the vid, great comparison samples at the end there. I think I'll be getting the donner kebab one.👍
I need help I saw this kit for sell for $180 to $250. For the alesis kit?
I'm ordering the Donner this week. It just seems like the quality is going to last longer than the Alesis. I'm getting one to essentially play/record on as exercise/artistic expression. I played for a decade, battled with addiction and have been finding joy in music again after being sober for a few months (I smoke weed, but sober from everything else). I haven't been able to stop air drumming and have been messing with rudiments on a small dab pad. It's helping my precision and getting used to the wrist roll muscle memory. Cool video!
Amazing you compared these two probably gonna get the donner but idk if it was just my headphones but when you was playing the donner it was distorted a bit
Donner sounds more like real drums to my ear
im going to be buying one of my first drum kits ever, so i decided to get an electric. this video was helpful.
Me too.
Awesome drum set. Happy Thursday.
🙌
Thanks for this review! I would like to know how quiet they really are. I’m using an old DTXpress, but its still rather loud, especially the kick, which is why i’m looking into mesh. Can you (or anyone) give me any insight into this?
Nice review
This video saved my life.
Glad it helped! 🙌
Great video. Thanks for the info. Quick question. Is there anything preventing you from using a different brain on the Donner? I have an old Alesis DMPro rack module that uses a quarter inch connection for every drum and cymbal. It looks like this Brain only uses a few? Do all the cables merge into one via some kind of breakout cable?
I love your shirt can I ask were u got it
Cool video dude. I gotta try to figure out mine one of these days. The sounds we heard were stock from each unit? Or was that from a plugin?
Stock sounds out of the unit! Which one did you have again?
@@TaylorDanley I believe it's the same Alesis set you have but an older model
I've never played drums, always wanted to learn and well being in an apartment I can't have the real deal lol. But that Donner sounds and looks great for the price
Alisis sounds better because the donner is worse at handeling 2 sounds at once
@@utube4robd I disagree
Alexis has always made good stuff for a fair price. I just saw this kit on line for$89.95. A mistake or scam?
They are a good kit I have a nitro but mine is expanded to a 10-piece kit. I also have re did my bass kick with a mesh tom to become a double kit bass pad.
What do you think about the Yamaha DTX452K Electronic Drum Set
I like how the Donner bass drum is larger but I like the head unit better on the other one
what would a good electric drumset for a beginner be. i live upstairs in an apartment. lol. any sets? under 500?
i had the original alesis. now i need another one for phase shift.
I'm looking for a (3rd) drum kit that's quick and easy to set up for small lower volume gigs. Considering the DED-200, and from this video it sounds to me that it sounds less electronic and more acoustic-like, which would be great. So hard to judge without playing it yourself. I have not found any local stores here in Brisbane yet that have these on the floor. Would love to know how well things like cymbal chokes or dynamics work on these cheap kits.
Watching and support
Thinking of buying a new
Where can I find the video of the penguin playing on the subway that's seen in the beginning?
"Penguin drumming subway" in the search duhh lol
Please do a review on Carlsbro CSD 600
I have my Gretsch drum and I love it but not so great to for night practice especially with them neighbor. I wish I gotten an electronic kit especially now with the f-ing pandemic 🙃. I might check this one out.
They definitely come in handy when you need to practice quietly!
If youre in an apartment even an e-kit makes alot of racket.
I got plastic sticks for mine, strongly recommend.
Cool video, Taylor. I didn’t know that donner made electronic drum sets and guitars. I’m mostly familiar with their pedals. Between the two drum sets, I like the donner electronic drum set the most.
great video
Cool how you play in the dark......
What do y’all think?
Can you use the Donner snare and kick with the nitro controller?
Awesome video! Do you mind if ask where you got the tshirt?
Draculabytes!
@@TaylorDanley Thank you!
A couple of questions on the DED-200: Do all the buttons on the top row light up when pressed? What happens when you press the "Kit" button?
Uh, why is the donner kit distorting so much? Recording issue? Or an issue with the kit?
I have been watching several videos on the donner trying to decide if I wanted one for quiet practice. They all seem to have this distortion. I think I'm going to have to go with the Alesis. Too bad about that double kick limitation.
@@dmcdlrn
Huh, weird. And everyone is just ignoring the distortion?
@@ThePentosin Kinda seems like it.
Hi! I have a question, Can mix the kick pad Donnor with the Alesis drum kit?
alesis nitro mesh hack. unless you play jazz and need the high hat pedal, make the high hat sound your kick sound and adjust the latency so it matches your single pedal on the trigger and voila, double bass kit. works amazing, ill post a video later.
Make a video please.
I've found that not to work
It works for my cheap Simmons drum I’ve always done that works pretty well
Yooooooo that's brilliant
@@jamesharlen4286 Thanks man! Im working on a video about it. should be up soon!
Great video!! Now I wanna be a drummer xD
😂🙌
Can you compare the TourTech TT 22m Vs the Alesis Nitro Mesh. The Tourtech is sold in Uk but gets good reviews and could be an alternative to the Nitro Mesh.
Great video but still can’t decide which one to get lol. I used to play snare drum in school but that was way back. I’m trying to get back into drums and always wanted electric drum kit so I can play different sounds and have my headphones on without annoying my family. I just can’t decide between the 2. I herd lots of good things about the donner kit more but most people who bought the donner kit swapped out the brain with Alesis brain cause it’s much better according to reviews. Have you tried this yet?
Both kits for Black Friday are almost same price range. But Donner set comes with pair of headphones and a throne. But I can’t decide between the 2 😭 please help. I need to buy something this week cause I want to start playing drums again!
What it sounds like using Donner pads with Alesis brain? Is it the same as the Donner sound or Alesis sound?
@@tianhuili9203 I’m not sure nobody made a video yet. But I read with Alesis brain the donner pads sound way better.
That Donner was recorded pretty hot. Shame, sounded better than the Alesis otherwise.
From Alesis to donner
Which drum kit u prefer to buy it
Where did u get your shirt at?
Thanks for the comparison. Just purchased the Alesis Nitro and just love it. Prefer that over the Donner.
So did the double bass sound better on the dinner?
I absolutely love all sub genres of metal especially the extremely heavy shit like slam however it comes at a price everything is so damn expensive instrument wise because it has to be able to take a beating like a savage brutal beating from a conan style zombie from a Stephen King Book on roids daily forever lol It sucks playing metal music sometimes cuz you can't get cheaper shit really cuz it'll break in a day after some blast beats at 300 beats per minute over and over lol I love metal it is my heart and soul but it definitely came at a price apparently i appreciate this video for trying but we all know at the end of the day may as well spend your life savings 🤣
donner sounds better?
i like the sounds donner has
If you had to pick which one would you go with and why?
🤔 hmm. Good question. Really depends on your situation I think. If it helps, we ended up with a hybrid of both, using the alesis brain.
Speaking of donner stuff their guitar pedals are actually amazing for only being around $40 each, i've had a few over the years
So im still wondering wich one i should buy.
I aint gonna get a double pedal. And i play reggae? Im so lost between the two
Alesis for sure. Better Midi capabilities and like you said, you won't be doing any double pedaling.
Can you adjust the height for the donner?
Can you tell me please what you mean by slightly smaller sticks? Also I am not sure but did you say I can't plug in my two amps - L and R! Great video BTW!
Is your headset sounds fully on the set ? If so what headset you’re using ?
Does it register rim shots where you have the stick on the snare, like with a one drop rhythm?
the penguin got me
Do you need a pc or computer for Donner DED-100 Electronic Drum Set ?
What a great video
The look of the hardware is really good, esp the donner mesh heads, the sounds are very 'drum machine' like though, limited samples done? I presume you can trigger a drum sample from a higher quality library via daw?
Is the Alesis foldable for a studio apartment?
Yes you can fold it for apt use
But can you connect them to superior drummer with no fuss?
People say the Donner sounds more like a real drum set. But doesn't the Alesis Nitro Mesh let you use programs to program the drums to sound however you want? If that's the case, it seems like you could make them sound like real drum sets, no? Can you program the Donner DED-200 drums to sound differently too?
I got the Alesia kit due to being affordable and just learning and not being in the way when not using it and also hooking it up to rock band game which people saids this kit is the best when using it so we’ll see. Can’t wait to get it in 2 days and try it out.
im intrigued, what game are you talking about?
@@F00FS rock band 2 n 3
I beat the nitro every day for 2 years it's still allll good
And I BEAT it playing cannibal corpse, death, dying fetus
if you are going to use ezdrummer or addictive drums to make the sounds don't both of these programs bypass the module sounds anyway thus rendering the better alexis module somewhat moot?
For the most part. A more advanced model will allow you to get more into the threshold, cross-talk between drums and other utility-type settings that you can't access within a VSTi like Superior, a higher-quality will give you a LITTLE but of an advantage.... That's about it.
Use the four cymbal I have it
Could anyone tell me if the pads can be connected to other devices? Like a strike multipad for example.
hey man great videos i was wondering what kind of jackson guitar you use in your videos
Thanks! Theres 2 I use. One is a KEX kelly, the other is a soloist (dont remember model, theres a vid somewhere on my channel!).
Great video. On the Donner kit, are the cymbals chokeable? Are any of the pads dual zone? thanks.
Yes he said the cymbals are chokable and the snare is dual zone
funny how you say great video then proceed to ask questions that were already answered in it.
For your demos? Go to check Misha Mansor with MIDI drums
There’s also the surge by alesis
So with both kits do the drum modules have every cymbal and tom/snare connected by one cable that just get plugged into the back? Or do they all have their own separate cable? Just was wondering and I can never seem to find a good picture for that.
