It seemed to be loud enough while I was editing the video but once I was watching the video back online, it seemed really quiet. I didn't include this in my review because I wasn't sure if it was a problem with my technique or an issue with the trigger. You can play extremely fast on the mesh heads with no issues triggering all the notes (a fast double stroke roll will have no issues), but on the bass drum pad with a double bass pedal, it may start to "skip" some of the notes that you play. As I said, I'm not sure if this is an issue with the trigger pad, or something to where I should be playing more "off" the head with my beater rather than burying it. Either way, it is something to be noted. I suspect there's simply a piece of metal in the connection not touching correctly because with some light spinning of my headphone input in the module output (jiggling it a bit), the problem goes away. I've only had this issue on one of my Nitro drum sets, the other has had no problems whatsoever like this You also cannot import any samples or songs to this drum module, but there are fairly easy work arounds using the "AUX IN" jack on the back of the module to play along and using a DAW to set up samples to be triggered using the drums Last updated: Nov 18, 2020 As always, if you've got any questions, comments, or concerns, let me know and I'll be more than happy to address them

This was my first kit. Spent about 4 months learning to play, playing all the time. Finally I was like "this is just too small", so I upgraded to the Alesis Strike Pro. I'm so glad I did. The Nitro Mesh forces you to hit the sweet spot on very small drum heads, so much that when you upgrade to larger drum heads I found drumming to be incredibly easier than before. I say, start with this for sure and you'll appreciate it so much more when you step up.
I gotta say brother, this was a well thought out review. It happened to show up in my feed and as I've had a curiosity about these types of kits I took the dive into the video. Thank you! I know the sound leak into other parts of the house are a big concern for my students and their parents, so it was definitely a topic I wanted to address. Have a great day!
Looking at this kit for my son and i was wondering about the sound i would hear when he would be practicing. This was great to have that understanding and the scenarios are very well thought. Congrats and many thanks for the review.
I like the section where it alternates between what the sound would be through amps and what it sounds like standing next to the person without headphones
Amazing review! I was curious it's going to sound like to my housemates while playing and I think this is the only video I could find which covers this.
Thanks. I used to play a heck of a lot but just got older and the practicality of an acoustic set up was impractical. I’m now going to get an electronic kit. Can’t wait to get back into it...
Great informative video. I have the expansion pack with 1 extra cymbal and tom, as well, and on top of that, I bought a 2nd Alesis Kick Tower pad for true double bass. To do that, one only needs a 1/4 inch mono Y splitter, since both kicks will be at the same exact settings. It works great! (much better than a double pedal, since both hammers were only hitting the edges of the pad, not the center).
Considering an electronic kit in the near future, after a lifetime of acoustic drumming. This is the best review on youtube, for sure. The kit isn't even relevant, but the setup demonstrations are critical for folks who are in the market for such a kit. "How does it actually sound to folks around you" ... thanks for this.
Thank you for the very good review I very much appreciated the outside mic test, my wife is my worst neighbour ... lol.... But I think she would find that levels of the pads acceptable, just have to turn up her Thai soap operas a little .. The sounds are actually better than other reviews I have heard, although I would be triggering kits in Logic mostly. I found this review extremely helpful...! Cheers!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for doing all the "will this piss off my upstairs neighbors" testing!!! I've been looking to get an electric kit because I live in a tiny apartment, and this was really helpful!!!
hey thanks so much for this man, i’ve watched some other reviews on this kit and they kind of made me not want to buy it. but you’ve changed my mind! love your cat by the way :)
Very good review. The only thing I like to add is that it has a great metronome build in with the computer. Great set for beginner but not like real drums. If after a year or 2 you're still playing on this set and like drumming get a real set to improve on your skills. This set is well worth the money for beginner drummers.
Thanks a lot for the comment! I live in a small house so an acoustic set wouldn't work, not to mention the noise complaints from the neighbors. Want to give drumming a go, seriously thinking about this one. If I don't have any economical drawbacks, I'll probably get it in a couple of months
thank you so much for this video!!! i have been wanting this set for a long time now, but had some uncertainties. after watching your video, me and my parents are convinced to buy it!! i haven't been this excited in a long time. thank you so much!!!
Thanks for this mate, watching these videos until I can get my own and with twins on the way that bit about the noise from the other room is essential, thanks!
Awesome review! I'm thinking about buying this set for my apartment, but the one thing still worries me - if it will make a lot of noise in the apartment below from the vibrations. I saw that many people make floating drum risers from plywood and tennis balls.
@@katarinamicic9303 You can just get a set of interlocking rubber floor mats from Harbor Freight for less than $10. They are 1/2" thick rubber foam and will deaden pretty much any sound. One set of 4 mats should be just enough to fit under your set and throne. You can even double it up if you think you need to.
Excited to try this in my apartment! I'm a little paranoid the vibrations will go straight through my floor to my neighbors below, have you gotten any complaints like that? Should I put down a blanket or something?
In the Hvac industry they have these things we call waffles. Because they look like waffles but there’s anti-vibration pads you can put under the whole setup. In addition to the rubber that is on the bottom of the setup. Also if you get a few acoustic foam squares and put them on the wall near the set and on ceiling and if there’s carpet or throw rug in the room you should be in good shape. Some google searching will find examples of above. Hope this helps.
I bought this kit a year ago to teach myself drums after getting sick of programming them.. I've been happy with them so far.. I like how the unit has MIDI ports, when most things seem to be USB and all use the same shit drivers preventing multiple devices.
You can also add to this kit, using splitters etc. Splitters do work with Alesis. So depending on rack space, you can really go to town with your setup
The way to go with any kit under 2k is to use it through the computer and run SSD or what I love is Addictive drums 2. The judgement of pads on lower lines of Alesis and Yamaha, any really sound better with the vsti's samples.
I live in the 2nd floor of an apt. Got this exact kit to practice but unfortunately that kick pedal is kinda loud. They can hear it downstairs. Had the cops even show up. Gotta see about switching it out for a trigger pedal.
Thankfully I’m on the 1st floor. I’ve heard you can use rugs and other sound dampening stuff under the kick in order to mitigate some of the noise. Pretty shitty that they called the cops on you man, fuck then that would make me play louder!
Glad I'll be playing in my garage. Just got mine and need to set them up. I still need to keep it down since my Dad has Dementia, but at least I don't have to deal with shitty ass neighbors. Only time I've had a noise complaint was when I was cranking my brand new Marshall all the way up. My neighbors are quite chill. Especially since on ocassions my girlfriend who lives a few blocks away can hear me playing. At least she knows I ain't cheating haha
Wow, calling the cops instead of just walking up the stairs, knocking, and asking to keep the noise down. Your downstairs neighbor is kind of pathetic.
Bro, the way everything sounds except the mesh pads, im sure anyone would prefer to where the speakers than just the raw pad sounds hahaha. Im getting this for my fiancee for Christmas (I'm also super happy because I miss playing drums). Great review, it has all my doubts anwsered in one video. I will be pairing it with EZdrummer 2 because, the ONLY thing I hate about this kit is the built in sounds.
Totally agree man! I was only showing the raw pad sounds for a volume reference, like for anybody living in an apartment or sharing a space, I just wanted to demonstrate how quiet they really are for people who aren't familiar with how mesh pads sound. I'm really happy to hear you'll be able to get back to playing! This set + EZdrummer is gonna be a match made in heaven. Cheers brotha!
After so long my I convinced my parents to rearrange my room for more space 😭and my dad really wants to play drums so I’m most definitely getting this kit.🤩
Thank you for this video I have been for the past month looking into different electric drums to start off but I kept finding really expensive ones or ones for kids
Nice review!! Got to love those digi's due to many of us being couped up with neighbors these days!! Just got a Condo & looking into some digi's again. Had some Roland V-drums in the day but age & money is preventing me from spending BIG bucks in more gear. Just bought some vocal gear from "TC Helicon" .. god forbid my wife finding out lol. But ya. Awesome review bud. +1 Thanks.
Nice setup! I have had my Nitros for a couple years now and recently bought the expansion kit for like 300 bucks which gives you another cymbal and a dual zone pad. So now I have a 10 piece setup and I have the dual zone setup in the floor tom position with rim trigger set with the deepest tom/kick and the cymbal is set to a ride sound. Side note... I heard that if you use TRS split cables that you can actually make this kit huge! The cymbals that are single zone and the pads that are single zone will be able to be split. Anyways, Great video.
Perfect review this. Thinking of purchasing this but was always worried about the sound through the house. Seems ok...well i say that now until the wife hears it 😂😂
Thanks for taking the time to make this video, since covid i haven't been able to play because the neighbours would have kittens. I think i'll give this kit a go.
I use this mainly for recording demos for my band. It's great! Yeah it's a bit small, but for a guitarist learning and tracking simple stuff it's great.
this is a great little kit honestly, very customizable. the onboard sounds are awful though, and the kick seems to be WAY quieter than any other pad. luckily, you can just connect through midi to your computer, I have a Mac book and even the basic drum kits on GarageBand sound pretty decent, which it also automatically routed them pads to GarageBand properly, i'll probably eventually get superior drummer or something though. my 1 real complaint is the hi hat pedal, the spring has way too much resistance and if Im trying to play with the hats closed, if i'm not pushing really hard on the pedal there's a deadzone right before the trigger is depressed completely. I managed to fix it by cutting the spring for the pedal a bit shorter though, so it's easier to fully depress now, and I definitely recommend doing it.
You can adjust the individual volumes and the sounds per pad. You can also adjust the sensitivity, reverb, eq and you can go through and change each individual drum to whatever is in there plus adjust the pitch of each as well. Very helpful once you got that.
Yes, the Nitro on board sounds are not good - if you're used to something like Roland, which I am, there's just no comparison, but using MIDI to your iPad or laptop allows you to use better quality instruments, but not without hiccups sometimes. Better to just save for longer and just get a decent 2nd hand Roland. Edit: I'm now using Drum Session with ios, which is not very expensive, and it makes this kit sound like a high end kit. Also, the back up service from Drum Session is also very good.
@@backintogear9071 midi cable from the MIDI at the back of the module into a ios camera kit/adaptor into your ipad and open GB Drums. Simple. It connects very easily to gb. Also, on the module turn local (loc) off and GM on.
Yea, I literally just bought it and the expansion 'kit' to add another cymbal and pad. Stoked to get it, I've been wanting to get a new set for years and never had the chance.
This was super helpful thank you so much! Just one question, there are some drums and you can plug in your phone and play along with your music can you do that one this one?
Yes! It's actually very easy to do this. There's an 1/8" jack on the back of the module marked "AUX IN" and you can plug in your phone/laptop using an aux cable, play whatever music you like, and then adjust the volume coming through the drum module into your headphones. It's actually a fairly easy setup to do this!
I'm no beginner but I need a kit to get back into playing where sound was an issue last 15 years not touching one. I played about 27 years prior. Ive since moved to guitar and need drums for recording. I'm in a little camper too so room is key. Hahah. Im sure a vst would help sounds. Would you recommend ?
A few notes about this video now that it's picking up some traction:
This video is not sponsored by Alesis
This review is mostly geared toward *new* drummers needing a quieter alternative to an acoustic kit
Alesis has recently updated the Nitro Mesh kit, I'm not sure if the updates are cosmetic only or if some are functional, but the drum set featured in this video is not the most current model version
I realize that the last recording of the room mic should've had a higher gain to get a good idea of the sound bleed. It seemed to be loud enough while I was editing the video but once I was watching the video back online, it seemed really quiet. Unfortunately my laptop died recently so I'm not able to correct this problem, but the idea still stands: you should be able go use the drum set quietly to practice and record your performances in the comfort of your bedroom/studio
Something I forgot to mention in the video: this drum set will easily accommodate very young drummers until they're able to "fit" a full-sized acoustic kit
*Some cons about this drum set that I've noticed*: Faster double pass passages (e.g. continuous 16th notes around 190 BPM and beyond) may not be fully triggered. HOWEVER, here is a link to a video I made using the Iron Cobra 600 double pedal in a tempo range that is very comfortable for this pad, and at this speed, you should have no problems whatsoever with a double bass pedal

I have had some issues with one of my kits not connecting my headphone cable properly. I suspect there's simply a piece of metal in the connection not touching correctly because with some light spinning of my headphone input in the module output (jiggling it a bit), the problem goes away. I've only had this issue on one of my Nitro drum sets, the other has had no problems whatsoever like this

Great video! I’m sold on it. Going cop the Alesis 8pc soon.
Nice review! Watched a few of this set and yours is one of my favorites! Cool idea showing the acoustic sounds!
this is so incredibly helpful. Thankyou so much!
Thanks man! Answers to a lot of questions. Nice 👏👏
The way to go with any kit under 2k is to use it through the computer and run SSD or what I love is Addictive drums 2. The judgement of pads on lower lines of Alesis and Yamaha, any really sound better with the vsti's samples.
Love this video, such a wonderful demonstration of the drums and presets, perfect for beginners. Thanks much for doing this.
Thank you man! I just bought this today and was curious about it all. Great vid ☺️
One of the best e kit reviews yet
Sweet. Thank you for all the effort making this video
Hey man, this is a well thought out review. Great comparison with the sounds on and off and going through the door. Good job!
Excellent review man. Thanks for posting this.
Amazing video! Thank you so much for this. I was worried about annoying my neighbors. Thank you
Nextdoor neighbor what's wrong with your washing machine ? Drummers that's just the rinse cycle .
Amazing video thank you for such a strait forward review!! I'll look for more of your videos
I had two options ps5 or drums.since ps5 is not available anymore i am going buy this.thanks for review
This is the best review of a product I have ever seen! Instant subscribe dude! I’m going to check out your other videos.
Nice job! I used Walmart 4" furniture risers (in house) for mine, and I'm sure I didn' spend more that $15 for 'em..
You just won a subscriber!
Very good Review and very insightful!!
Helped a bunch!
And I’m also 5’11” with short legs and tall torso hahaha
Hey Brandon :-) I actually have the same edrums and had this video recommended! Great video dude
After so long my I convinced my parents to rearrange my room for more space 😭and my dad really wants to play drums so I’m most definitely getting this kit.🤩
Also 11:04 I imagined he crushed the cat with the door😂😂🤣
That's awesome news! You're gonna love having this kit around, it's an absolute blast to play on
was really trying to find a video like this! best explenation video yet. thank you!
Great video, very helpful! Just bought this drum kit. Thank you
Henry was showing you a sliver of time where things could be prosperous and new and exciting. But you closed the door in his face.
Thank you for this video I have been for the past month looking into different electric drums to start off but I kept finding really expensive ones or ones for kids
Thanks for the review
Helps to see, " just " what's in the kit !
No confusion
I just got this set! So excited! Thanks for this video!
How is it? Any thoughts? I'm a beginner looking to buy this kit.
Great comparisons. I liked many of your licks too. Thanks!
Thanks for this man! especially the acoustic sound of it part, I still want it, should work, downstairs neighbors just gonna have to deal :D
+1
Thanks.
great review! you made it all very clear, i heard you couldn’t add a double bass pedal but you proved you could! thank you!
Depending. The beaters on mine are to far apart to fit It hits the edge of plastic and dosen't trigger.Maybe can adjust it not sure
Seems ok...well i say that now until the wife hears it 😂😂
This is the most realistic review I’ve ever seen! Thank you
Thanks for taking the time to make this video, since covid i haven't been able to play because the neighbours would have kittens. I think i'll give this kit a go.
I use this mainly for recording demos for my band. It's great! Yeah it's a bit small, but for a guitarist learning and tracking simple stuff it's great.
Such a good review, honestly very good video all around thank you
this is a great little kit honestly, very customizable. the onboard sounds are awful though, and the kick seems to be WAY quieter than any other pad. luckily, you can just connect through midi to your computer, I have a Mac book and even the basic drum kits on GarageBand sound pretty decent, which it also automatically routed them pads to GarageBand properly, i'll probably eventually get superior drummer or something though.
my 1 real complaint is the hi hat pedal, the spring has way too much resistance and if Im trying to play with the hats closed, if i'm not pushing really hard on the pedal there's a deadzone right before the trigger is depressed completely. I managed to fix it by cutting the spring for the pedal a bit shorter though, so it's easier to fully depress now, and I definitely recommend doing it.
Hey I’ve got a MacBook too, how do I play with the drum kits through GarageBand?
Also, the back up service from Drum Session is also very good.
yea how do u hook it up midi to garageband???
@@backintogear9071 midi cable from the MIDI at the back of the module into a ios camera kit/adaptor into your ipad and open GB Drums. Simple. It connects very easily to gb.
Also, on the module turn local (loc) off and GM on.
Shout out to us 5'11 short leg long torso bois.
Also you've convinced me to buy this set.
Yea, I literally just bought it and the expansion 'kit' to add another cymbal and pad. Stoked to get it, I've been wanting to get a new set for years and never had the chance.
amazing review mate, thank you!
I bought one today! I can't wait to learn how to play the drums for the first time
Excellent and very helpful review, thank you!
Such a helpful and awesome review. Thanks a lot
That little clip of you playing bleed 😂😂
Great video man!!! Best review I’ve seen
Awesome review - thx for creating and sharing! 😎👏🙏
Thank you for the awesome review!
