Ultimate Daz to Blender Workflow: Importer, Auto Rig Pro, Blender NLA Tutorial

  • I want to share my overall Daz to Blender workflow. Moving Genesis 8 Characters to Blender 3.0 and applying animations from Mixamo, BVH motion capture files, or other sources.
    This workflow does involve a paid addon, Auto Rig Pro, from the Blender Market. However, the saving in time spent posing and cleanup is well worth the price tag.

    Mixamo Motion Capture files: www.mixamo.com/#/
    Auto Rig Pro: blendermarket.com/products/au...
    Note: It seems you will need the full version to use the Remap or Retarget tool.
    00:00 - Introduction
    00:24 - Daz Importer vs. Daz to Blender Bridge
    03:53 - Prepare Genesis 8 Character for retargeting with T-Pose
    06:13 - How Daz Twist Bones pose (no pun intended) an issue
    08:05 - Daz Importer motion capture options
    09:10 - Import Mixamo FBX (Source)
    09:40 - Resizing Armature
    10:30 - Initial setup with Auto Rig Pro
    11:50 - Auto Rig Pro bone matching
    15:40 - Auto Rig Pro retargeting
    16:30 - Retargeting results
    17:40 - Cleanup with Blender NLA (Non-Linear Animation)
    This workflow is much smoother than my previous one, which involved sending a Daz Character from Daz Studio to either Character Creator 3 or 3DXChange and on toward iClone. First, the animation is applied to a character in iClone and saved as a motion. Next, that motion is applied to a Genesis 8 character in 3DXchange and exported as a BVH file. That file is then used in Daz Studio and saved as a Pose Preset. Finally, the character file is transferred to Blender, where the Pose Preset is applied. It sounds like a lot, doesn't it?
    In the new workflow, the character is importer to Blender and put in a T-Pose. The animated armature is imported as well. The bones are matched up and retargeted all through Auto Rig Pro. Much of the animation cleanup happens in the Blender NLA.
    This workflow also preserves changes to skin textures in Daz Studio.

    Here is the intro into a video series that explains this step by step: ua-cam.com/video/K93pEp5NsRc/v-deo.html

    Sir, your goodwill is wholeheartedly appreciated. Great and very useful information.

    Is it better just to take the model from DAZ and put a autorig on it in blender or mixamo? 14:00 Matching up bones!!??, hell we did that using lifeforms (poser to 3ds max) in the late '90's with mocap files, looks like they didn't make much progress in that stage. Well at least foot sliding/body shake is no longer an issue. Thanks for going over all those commands, great reference!

      I haven't tried exporting a Daz file and trying autorig that way. That maybe a way to get around the Twist Bones issue. I wouldn't try it in Mixamo as that strips the materials setup. The bone matching seems to be necessary when the naming conventions don't match up and it looks like Daz's convention is far from any other standar.

    Great vid. Any idea where we can find a source for presets that have already been created? I'm sure people have presets for most common retargets like DAZ to ARP, Unreal, CC3 or CC4, etc.

      Thanks. I'm not sure if other preset files are out there. In general, a single character retarget takes about 10-15 minutes to do and save for reuse. Another commenter seems to be saying that you mostly need to rescale and only connect the hips. I haven't tried that yet.

    8:12 How did you import the morphs into plugin view?

    • @W3-productions
      @W3-productions  Рік тому +1

      I did so in the options on the right when I was searching for the file to import (before this video). You can also import these under the morphs drop-down. It is the Morphs drop-down under the Global Settings.

      @@W3-productions is there some direction of how to do this in Plugin documents or some written instructions?

      @@W3-productions I will start with this, thank you so much. I took the weekend to watch and then re-watch your video, it helped me immensely FINALLY getting more comfortable with Blender.

      @@Cordova2Pro I appreciate that. When I started with Blender, I think I was watching BlenderGuru, I paid for CG Cookie for a while and a few others in that circle. I like Ducky3D for the concepts but I have to slow the video down to follow along, haha.
      Some of the integration pieces (Daz to Blender, iClone to Blender) I had to figure out myself until all of these plugins showed up. There are a couple of people I watch to keep up with that like Solomon Jagwe. It all takes time and practice.

    NO need to do all manually for retargeting, first auto scale then connect hips only... it should work fine...

    • @W3-productions
      @W3-productions  2 роки тому +2

      So only remap the hips and the rest should follow? If so, I'll have to try that out.
