absolutely amazing resource. thank you so much for doing this when everyone else says "just read the manual." i absolutely need more on this so i can tune my 20l5 to perfection
This video really stands out Steve. The reason why is that when you go on UA-cam you only see reviews on the units while just maintaining and repairing these Sony PVM. But nothing in depth of what this video has to offer. It really shows answers to questions that owners have them really don't answer because they don't know themselves. Well done Steve. This one really is solid gold material for sure. 8^) Anthony..
Potentially useful alternative to the 240p test suite grid pattern (albeit without *any* of the other useful patterns and tests that offers...) is the 'Screen Position' setting in Silent Hill 1 for PlayStation. Run that on a PS1 or a PS2, and you'll get a very similar 240p test grid that can be used for basic geometry calibrations. It can be alternated between black, and white backdrops by pressing the X button on a PlayStation controller.
Thanks for all these videos, they're so helpful. Something I've found personally is that the controls on these models versus the slightly older ones, are slightly less robust. I feel like I have more options on my 20M2MDU, but maybe I'm just more familiar. That said I love the light up buttons on the side.
I'm with you on slightly overscanning so you can hide the areas normally hidden on a consumer crt. On wide-screen BVM's you pretty much have to see all those things. It's a good thing for some but I just don't want to see that stuff. It's especially distracting on the Genesis
After playing around with geometry and color for some time, the best settings are in the official manual. There is a reason Sony put them there. This should be factory settings, but not always! If you don't have close to perfect geometry by setting it according to the manual, you might have an issue. It should be 95-99 perfect 🥰 😁. There might be small differences in raster and focus settings like landing or vertical size, but that's not geometry anyway. I think you give a great explanation Steve, but settings from the manual are the best or atleast the goto starting point.
For auto color calibrate, pull up regular menu, scroll two down to "User Control 1/2." under "Auto Chroma/Phase" make sure "Auto Adj Vaule" is toggled to "On." Pull up the Color Bar Pattern on the screen, then click "Start." Geometry needs to be adjusted first otherwise the test will fail. If everything is good, you'll see it finish in a matter of seconds.
Hello. I am following you and I think this channel is the best resource on the web. Anyway, I m an idiot and. I just did this: "Executing FACTROY LOAD If the adjustment data is damaged or lost by some reasons, you can restore the default factory adjustment data by executing FACTROY LOAD as described below. Select the following submenus from the Service Menu in the order of : [SYSTEM] → [FACTROY...] → [LOAD...] to read the default factory data. If the default factory data is damaged or the ROM is re- placed without executing FACTORY SAVE as described in the following paragraph, you cannot execute FACTROY LOAD." Now the picture is completely off. Do you have any idea how to fix it? Can I still save it? Thanks
Hi happy new year ! I have an HR monitor multiformat pvm similar to yours ! It has black littile wide on left and not on right ! It looks the screen shifted into right side ! How to adjust this ? Thanks
Hey Steve, maybe you can help. On my 20L5, on a pure white screen, I can see two dim spots on the side of the TV. They're in the center to the right. Any idea what this might be? If you'd like a picture, maybe I can one over to you on the CRT market watch group FB group.
Hey Steve, My CRT is having horizontal linearity issues. Basically the left side of the screen is compressed and the right side is spread out. I recently recapped the deflection board and adjusted the yoke for proper alignment. Any clue how to fix this? My service menu only allows me to affect vertical linearity.
Does moving the yoke around help the picture at all? If you already recapped, then I think it would be the magnetism that is causing the problems. Most likely from the yokes angle. I know it sucks, but you may want to open the crt back up and try to play with leaning the yoke to see if it improves anything. That job is tedious and frustrating so stay calm while you work on it.
I have head that there is something called magnetic tape that i thought might work as the magnetic part in a convergence strip but I have not tried that yet. Have you ever tried to make your own convergence strips? I am having a hard time finding those.
I haven't ever made any of my own. There was a seller on eBay that made them, but they stopped a couple months ago. You can reseat the current strips in the CRT if you can't find replacements, or you can salvage strips from another non-working CRT

Me and my 20L5 officially love you, we're best buds, thank you all the way from the UK ❤
I have a 14L5 and this video helped me out a ton. Thanks!
Glad to see the SD2SNES theme works!
I love it! Thanks again!
from 📺 20L4 with thanks and love ❤️

You are too kind my friend. Thank you

Man you just helped me a lot calibrating my 20L4 (Already spent an hour playing with it). Thank you!

Nice! Thank you for sharing this knowledge!

Thank You Very Much... My 14L2 thank God has the same settinga as the L5
It sure does. I also have a few videos about the 20L2, which is the same PVM too.

Thanks a lot. I'll be trying this today!
Is this an option built right in to PVMs?
@@davidc7763 This option is only available on higher end PVMs and BVMs.
Y0U7U83U53r thanks for confirming
What happens when you can’t get the horizontal all the way over to the right? I try to adjust the h center and it’s def off. Is that a yoke issue?
Thank you for all your videos
Thanks, you helped me with my 20L5
Just what I needed. Thansk a lot!! 👍👍😊

So the test pattern in Silent Hill on PS1 should be good enough? That's what I've used recently.

Great video Steve 😎

Will the N64, PS1, Dreamcast, GameCube, Xbox and PS2 work with RGB monitors?

Bout time you do right by your L5!! :)
You are right about that.
my degauss button doesn’t work 😐 does that mean i can’t set up the geometry on my L5😭
Is there any method to Calibrating Geometry for BVMs without menu functions? such as BVM 9045D
I have a Sony PVM-14L2 with a Dark spot, it just came up after some transport. Any way to fix it?
The 20L1 doesn't have as a robust service menus any experience with this one?

Anytime bro. Keep it up. 8^)

What flash cart are you using in your snes?

Will the newer consoles work with it?
Can you do one for a bvm?
