    You have a 4th set of rings to play with. The first three sets right on top of each other are purity, Red-green convergence and red-blue convergence... I think. Anyway that 4th set further back on its own helps with vertical bowing. Move them away from each other or closer together and you'll be able to straighten the top and bottom of the image. Don't seperate them too far! 8mm maximum. My Trinitron came with that same bowing. The problem you thought was mainly to do with Vertical position.

      @@riggel8804 I found the service manual online for mine. It showed the bowing problem as a diagram with the two magnet rings next to it. But with the wording around it, it wasn't quite clear what they were for because it was all next to convergence stuff and talking about the other rings too. And they were called 'blue' magnet and 'green' magnet to further confuse things. I eventually just tried it and sure enough that was the result.

    Just picked up a 27FS13 and I'm blown away by the amount of service menu adjustments. I really didn't think I could get the wonky picture on this thing straightened out but I was ultra surprised! Everything is straight, full and centered now (thank goodness for my years of adjusting home theater projectors...). I'm about to attempt to correct the convergence in the corners now. Thank you for the awesome tutorial!

    Thank you and your dad for both your time, effort and risking your lives to show me and others how to do these things! I still have my KV-35XBR48 and I do believe that I need one of those magnets as the top left corner is a bit droopy even after using the service menu. Dielectric grease did work for that CRT TV, but as for the red convergence issue, it is an extremely common thing for just about every Trinitron CRT as every Trinitron CRT TV that I have owned has always had at least some amount of red misalignment issue while for some shadow mask TV's, this wasn't as often a problem. I believe that the reason the red gun happens to go out quicker than the green and blue guns on Trinitrons more likely than on other mask types from what I have found (even ones used very heavily) is because the red gun requires a higher beam current compared to the other 2 colors. So if the red still looks a tiny bit misaligned after doing whatever you could, don't worry about it as it's most certainly the best that the red convergence will get. Again, I cannot thank you and your dad enough!

    Thanks for this video and the time you put into it. I have a KV-24FV12 with two issues out of the gate: 1. In any OSD and sadly while a GC is connected via composite or S-Video there's a jitter/shake to static text. 2. The image is tilted to the left and I figured menu rotation or service menu TROT (which it has) is not affecting it much to correct, so I believe I may need to physically rotate the yoke correct? I really hope this jitter can be corrected somehow. One thing I have tried as well is VM set to off both in menu and service menu. Thanks.

As long as Im not touching around on anything and just slip the convergence strip under the bottom left of the yoke (to correspond to the bottom right screen corner) theres no hazard or risk right? My first thought is that the power supply failed. You can try finding a CRT with a similar power supply and swapping it out. It's not a hard fix if you can find the right power supply but it might not be the power supply.

      Fuses are designed to blow if something is wrong. Do not use the tv until the problem is addressed. You can open it and look for any obvious problems like leaking caps. If you can't fix it take it to a tech. A lot of guys that fix hifi stereo equipment can also service CRTs.

    That's was very informative, thanks. I have a doubt, can the anode wire shock you? I have a 20 inch and it doesn't have that much space to work around it when adjusting the strips and magnets.

    • @riggel8804
      @riggel8804  3 роки тому +2

      The wire is insulated and should not shock you. However I try not to touch it. There is a very high voltage going through it. I do bump it sometimes. I've worked on 20 inchers before and they are generally easier. However they can be tight and every time I've been shocked it was on a 20 inch. Get someone to help so you can look at the screen while they adjust if it's a tight spot. Don't hesitate to get creative. I used a 2x4 piece of wood to push on a yoke once while it was energized because I kept zapping myself when I tried to push it with my hand.

      @Ken Mason I'm sorry, english is not my first language, but when you say lead you mean the connector or the extremity of the wire, right? If you have a XBR250 and you're experiencing horizontal blue, green or red banding across the screen with a component video connection, you will need to enter service mode and adjust the HOSC parameter. Initially HOSC is set to 7 (factory default), you'll need to change it to about 11 - this will eliminate the color banding in the picture.

    Cool video but your geometry is still pretty messed up at the end. I wonder if it's even possible to fix it on these flat screens. Mine is pretty bad too.

    • @riggel8804
      @riggel8804  3 роки тому +5

      The geometry on this tv is fine for my taste. If you want perfect geometry on a grid pattern than you want something other than a flatscreen Sony. I recommend a small pro monitor. Many of those have perfect geometry.
      There are some other techniques to correct geometry that I didn't attempt in this video but I don't think it's worth trying to make Flatscreen Sonys perfect.

    • @UHF43
      @UHF43 2 роки тому +2

      The bigger and the flatter a picture tube, the harder it is to get perfect geometry and convergence.

    • @chinakat7914
      @chinakat7914 2 роки тому +2

      As someone with a large flat-screen crt that was serviced by a professional (old guy in the neighborhood who used to work in the trade), its pretty much impossible to get perfect geometry. The technology is still made to be projected on a curved bulb at about 20", not on a flat screen at 30+", so nearly any fix for warping or bending you implement will cause a problem somewhere else on the screen.
      That said, it certainly is possible to get it good enough to where you don't notice any issues in-game, which is the ultimate goal. As a hobbyist, it can be very rewarding to meticulously correct the errors on a CRT using the 240p test suite. But ultimately, if the goal is to play games, the issues on the grid will hardly surface in actual play.
