    Hi Steve, what a great channel :-)! Why I found you, and why I will follow your from a now one for a long time: Recently I picked up an Sony Trinition KV-25X3D from my parents home (I'm in retro tech here in Germany since 25 years), which was located for over 20 years at the guests chamber. It was rarely in use, I would say "close to never". Besides the dust at the inside it looks and feels like new. I removed all dust, cleaned it, resoldered all high voltage and high power areas I found on all PCBs and started to calibrate it. The colors are brilliant, and about 90% of the screen is perfect. For one area, top right, it is impossible to get all 3 colors aligned, without killing the alignment of all other parts.
    My dad, meanwhile at an age of 75, was a professional Radio/TV/Hifi employee in the 70s (later he switched to Digital Equipment Corp, you maybe know them, away from CRTs), and he and myself tried to adjust the colors, with the horizontal/vertical alignments directly at the tube and the tubes boards. After hours, the issue is still the same.
    He told me about magnets, which were added back in the days to the back of the tube, to compensate geometry issues, but in his memories, this could not fix color issues like this.
    Long text, short question: is any tube in "good condition" able to be calibrated in a specific war, or is it possible, that this tube will never back to about 100% of its old quality?

    horizontal linearity issues are really the only issues I can't seem to fix. Nothing I've tried has had any effect on the linearity of my BVM. The service menu controls to adjust it don't seem to help, they just move the "faulty" area left or right slightly...

    RETRO TECH, Why does monitors use a B+ voltage set at 130vdc for what reasons? because the H&V oscillators need +130vdc but not sure why. Any reasons why the Horizontal sync is at 15.975Khz and the vertical sync is at 60hz, why are these the TV industries standards? The Screen adjustment and Focus Adjustment are a High "Negative" Voltage to the grid and screen grid of the CRT tube but its a Negative voltage? Any reasons why they use an isolation transformer for floating grounds on the monitors circuits boards why would u want floating grounds on your monitors circuit boards?

    • @DasAntiNaziBroetchen
      @DasAntiNaziBroetchen 3 роки тому

      "Why is the vertical sync at 60hz"
      Cuz of mains voltage. 50hz in Europe.
      "But why 50 or 60hz mains voltage then?"
      Cuz.
      "What is a negative voltage?"
      Think of voltage as a potential. 150V is 50V in relation to 100V. 100V is -50V in relation to 150V. *That's it.*
      "Why they use an isolation transformer?"
      It's much safer in case you get electrocuted by it.
      Also the answers to most of your questions are easily google-able and are well documented. I only gave a brief summary because this comment is one year old and you likely aren't even gonna see it.
