    I sent this guy a bunch of email with a storm of questions about restoring a 20 inch medical PVM I got as a gift and he was so kind answering and guiding me through. I'm thankfull, amazed at his knowledge and sad that my current economy doesn't allow me to support him over on patreon. I'll buy him a beer at leas when things get better.

    Loving all your units working behind you and playing video games Steve. I always wanted to do something like that in my pad. BUT, the Neo-Geo "Big Red" stole the show with me Steve. Such a beauty it is. 8^)

    Very cool! I was hoping you would have a video for this - I also have a 20L5. I wonder what Coury thinks of it now.
    If I lived closer to your side of the country, I'd ask you to service mine, too!

      @Jon Oz Indeed! 240p looks superb, but I also must give praise to 480i - scanlines do so much to add depth to an image, and I would contend the effects of a CRT are even greater over 480i. It's really beautiful.

    • @ImaFattyCat

      Jon Oz put an ad out on Craigslist, you will be surprised how easy it is to buy these for the cheap. I’ve bought plenty of pvmemes just so I can re sell them to people who love to pay 500 dollars for a monitor. I use the money to fund more games for my collection, I’m happy with my CRT and component.

      @@PixelPhoenix 480i on the L5 series has an undesired unique scanlines look, 240p is fine though. MLIG have brought it up in their videos

    • @PixelPhoenix
      @PixelPhoenix 4 роки тому +1

      @@VitalikButtring I'm curious if you know the specifics.
      For the record, 480i is fine on the 20L5 - often what people aren't happy about are things they won't normally see. I'd worry more about geometry, which is something you'll actually see.
      I can assure you, 480i functions just fine. I would agree that 240p is superb on the L5, though.

    I just purchased an A24 from Nicholas, and Savon Pat has it right now.....giving it a service where it's needed! I have never had a BVM before. But I had to justify $5000.00 with my wife, which went better than expected. I understand the A24 has 1000 tv lines no matter what aspect ratio you are playing in:):)

    My L5 will restart quickly in certain scenarios. For example, when I went back to the Grandpa’s store in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night , And When the game just started the LOGO clip switching animation in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood,it suddenly restarts. According to your professional judgment, what went wrong?
    I am very appreciate for your answer

    Hey Steve, love your videos. I'm passionate about CRTs and I'd like to learn more and fix them. Is there any book you'd recommend to start understanding CRT repair from scratch? Thanks in advance and keep up :)

    • @RetroTechUSA
      @RetroTechUSA  3 роки тому +2

      Hey, thanks. The best documentation really has to be a full service manual for the exact CRT you plan to work on. That will generally have all the tests, adjustments and procedures listed within. Good luck

    Hey Steve.. love the content. I'm in the process of adjusting/restoring a consumer Sony KV-35XBR48.. Its a beautiful consumer set and was only able to do things confidently and safely with all of your knowledge and expertise. I've been capturing as much of my repair/adjustments as possible and would like to produce an eventual video with my process and results. Wondering if you could maybe explain a bit on how you'd apply dielectric grease underneath the flyback? Would I have to remove the flyback completely in order to spread it around? Or can I just squirt some underneath? I have the same blue tube o grease that you recently showcased. I understand the anode cap application but im unsure with the flyback... tried goin back to see if you've answered this before. Thanks for any information.

    Planning to start recapping the D board on the unit I just got. Just to be sure: You can use regular through-holes for the ones near the heat sink right? I haven't seen other caps that look like the stock ones, and It does look like you used these here, I just wanna be sure

      Not to be an ass, but couldn't you just try them both out and see for yourself? It's a subjective question to begin with, and the condition of each will play into it as well.

    Hello! Just reached a part of the video where you mention that some little warping will always be present on crts. That's what's happening to my Panablack CT-G2995. When trying to fine tune the PCC, there's always some little warping at the very corner and no matter what I do, I can't get a perfect vertical border. Is this normal? Should I stretch the image vertically a little to hide the warped corner?

    • @bocefusboy
      @bocefusboy 2 роки тому

      I had the same issue. I was able to overscan it corner just fine. I lived with it like that for quite some time. However to actually fix it I had to open the back, fiddle with the convergence strips, and added an additional magnet to the back of the tube. The geometry is almost perfect now 👍🏻

    Hi Steve, I bought a 20L5 recently and noticed it has a slight linearity issue, and it looks the same as the one in this video on the scroll test. I've read that recapping the D board can fix this, but I have no soldering experience. Could I pay you to do a recap job? I'm a fan of your content and I've learned a lot from your videos, but I'd rather have a professional do this than attempt it myself. The only soldering I've done is a gba battery replacement

    Does dust buildup happen in consumer CRTs too?

    • @MultiMarvelGeek
      @MultiMarvelGeek 4 роки тому +1

      Dust buildup happens in pretty much all electronics. If air can flow through a device by vents or grilles, then dust or other air particles can, too. We have to take apart our consoles and computers to dust them, too. This is why compressed air is a heavenly gift.

    I would never give anyone a guide to use compressed air unless they know what they are doing because compressed air contains water and requires at least a water separator. In the worst case, you can blow up the entire TV.
    I use professional service MetroVac/DataVac ED-500-ESD Anti-Satatic Electric Duster with Grounded Wrist Strap they are expensive but do their job without worry.
    The single biggest mistake is to use a vacuum cleaner as it causes static electricity.
    But otherwise very good advice.
    Small PVM don´t have minor geometry problem or it is much rarer 14 inch and 9 inch.
