So in the US, fresh produce costs more because fresh produce are more resource and labor intensive, slow production, perishable and cost more logistically, compare to process food from factories and made by machines at faster pace with a long shelf life. I m not native from US so i find it weird too but it makes sense. Many produce are imported from Mexico as well.

Same in Germany . I am a student and survive from 15 euros a week consisting of fresh fruit and vegetables and have plenty to eat . It is so much healthier to cook fresh at home and cheaper . I have lived in the US before too and while this stuff is 4 times as expensive as in Germany I still find it way cheaper to cook at home than to eat out due to tipping . So idk why Americans still buy junk or go to fast food places .

Most of us feel that way here in the US. We often times get charged more for a bottle of water than a bottle of soda. We can get a large bag of chips for $1 or maybe an orange or banana for the same. The large bag of chips can cover probably 10-12 meals. Frozen meals are also often cheaper to feed a family than buying fresh and preparing. There is something very wrong with the system here and a lot of us acknowledge it, our government is too worried about taking away our rights to be bothered with finding a way to make fresh food cheaper(most of our fresh food is from our own country).

She was a military vet of 28 years, and I didn't know she could cry until that day.

I am native Italian. I moved in Australia 9 years ago. I love my country of adoption, but I remember my shock when I first saw the prices of fruit and vegetables. Coming from Italy, it was unbelievable. Simple vegetables I used to buy by the kilo, were on offer per piece. 1 single zucchini in western Australia costs more then 1 kg of zucchini in Italy 😯. I used to make lasagna, pizza, etc. At home before, But I stopped when I realized that it was cheaper to buy the same product from restaurants

I'm also from Australia but I'm Canberra based. It's upsetting how most of the time fresh produce is overpriced and I can't eat it all before it goes off. I have discovered that the snap frozen fruit and vegetables are pretty good and much more affordable.
Also snap frozen is actually a really good way to freeze too.
I also use Italian influence (it sounds odd I know) in my cooking too and pasta sheets and sauces and good quality meats and vegetables are super expensive. If I could make my own pasta I would but I'm only 20 and not really that skilled.

This show is amazing, they do a great job at covering so many controversial subjects. What i am seeing however, is a constant pattern arising. We ALL are suffering from low financial income in order to survive. If this is affecting a HUGE part of our population, as we all know it is, then why are we not getting together and going after those that are creating this beyond belief outrageous high cost of living. We need to stop putting up with it and trying to stretch the dollar further and further so these billionaires can just keep getting richer and bring them to their knees and put that money, that they do not need, back into society and make life more of a level playing field at least so there is less unnecessary suffering. Groceries are a mandatory thing to survive, how dare you out price them so that we can not eat healthy lives. I don't know how to achieve this, but this movement has to start somewhere. It is past time to get our lives back!!! Don't start coming at me with the "this is free enterprise" crap. Because if this is what free enterprise creates, you can stuff it where the sun don't shine. I don't EVER want to become rich at the expense of millions of peoples lives and standard of living. Let me be rich because everyone is also prospering.

No one needs to buy expensive salad 24/7, there are many “average” food options out there that people can afford and won’t make them obese because even if the options aren’t 100% healthy they are still a far better option than junk food.
However lazy people love to pretend they have only two choices: Expensive food and McDonald’s.

As a child from a family that doesnt have alot of money right now it's really hard. We eat more junk food and we dont really eat breakfast or lunch either. So we replace those with snacks and junk food because they are actually filling and can hold our bodies over until dinner but I can go at least 2 days with just one snack. That is bad in general because I'm 15 I need food but if I even try to eat three meals a day I feel sick. So I understand this fully.

I'm heartbroken for you! Reading your message i felt sick. No one should ever have to go hungry. Im so sorry but i know things will change in the future. My parents used to be very poor, had barely nothing to eat. But they raised 7 children with enormous sacrifices and now we all have more than enough. I live in Europe. God - Jesus bless you sweetheart. Your life will change, i know it.

It does bother me to see people buying unhealthy food for their children and I say that as a mother of 3 however I could not see being so mean. If that lady cares that much she could put her energy into community outreach programs and find ways to be helpful. I love that people mentioned that she should offer to help.

Screw being healthy. I can’t stand health wackos. Let kids eat what they want. Health is vastly over rated. Let adults worry about health. Let kids be kids 🙄

Right?! It upsets me when I see people with the means to feed their children well but give them junk but even then I would NEVER say it out loud because it's not my business. It just makes me worried for their kids health. I'm not being hateful even in my head lol.

We live on a budget and it's actually cheaper to buy ingredients and use them for several meals until they are all gone than to buy premade/prepackaged food (although I still love them as much as the next person lol). It also keeps you fuller for longer. BUT that still does not give anyone the right to be rude to people who are doing what they feel their family needs. If people want advice they'll ask, if not, keep it to yourself.

Its wild how the fact healthy food is expensive hits you when you first start living on your own. I now see why my widowed mom went fast food most nights. she wanted us to at least have food, even if its all we could do .

In Europe, we are more realistic than nice. Most of the people were overweight.
The USA has too many obese people.
I'm overweight but not hiding my problem.
Sometimes when I see law enforcement or policemen I feel like they are lucky to have guns because they would not be able to run after criminals...
Sorry but obesity is an issue...
This little girl should eat differently...

@@samsamcupcakes6476 I agree but I think that the point of this film is that in America healthy food is too expensive for many people.

@@Lord_Heron I know but it's not just one point... This video does raise other issues...
Anyway, I know that some organizations are trying to make healthy food available for people who cannot afford it.
Moreover, unhealthy food is often addictive.
To me everything is a choice.
1 kg of carrot or 5 kilos of French fries might be the same price but that does not mean we should buy the French fries, does it? 🤔
In France, cigarettes is a big issue. Some people complain about their budget, yet they will buy cigarettes on a daily basis...
I lived in the US 20 years ago and I guess things have gotten worse...
I feel for those who are really wanting to eat healthy... And can't.
In the video, I did not see that she had a will to eat healthy.
The actor could have said I know that it's unhealthy but it's too expensive bla bla bla...
It's not true that only rich people eat healthy, is it? 🤔
