A delightfully rare UK RHD Citroen Ami 8 Confort Saloon with enthusiast ownership.
EQUIPMENT
Rubber overriders, sliding rear windows, adjustable rectangular headlights, driver and passenger door mirrors, four door armrests, padded sun visors, inertia reel front seatbelts, rear parcel tray, ashtray, interior light, multifunctional stalk controls for; Lights, indicators, wipers, and screen washers. Charging rate indicator, oil pressure warning lamp, choke control, heater/demister, hazard warning switch, starting handle. Accessories; Rear seatbelts, Kenwood KMM-BT508DAB Radio with Bluetooth, 12V power socket X2 and USB port.
EXTERIOR
This quirky Citroen Ami 8 Confort is a super rare UK supplied model finished in Beige Gazelle, (Code ACO79). Distinctive from any angle having been designed by Flaminio Bertoni, the creator of the Citröen Traction Avant, Citröen 2CV and the iconic Citröen DS but with the reverse-raked rear window removed from the Ami 6 and a more conventional hatchback design employed. The stunning paintwork boasts a brilliant glossy shine with just a few minor touched in marks and the thin delicate metal body panels are beautifully preserved. The chrome bumpers have a mirror finish and even the rubber overriders are unmarked. All badges are present along with trim accessories such as the Citroen locking petrol cap, winter muff grille and chrome roof guttering. Restored by the Chevronic Centre Ltd in 1998 the car is structurally amazing with all floor panels and chassis sections in prime condition. An outstanding example of this fun and quirky classic.
INTERIOR
Amazingly comfortable and genuinely spacious with Brown retrimmed Targa material, this French icon with a flat floor will seat the occupants in minimalist style! The immaculate dashboard houses the fully functioning instrumentation and is chic in appearance finished in Havana colour. The ornate one spoke Citroen steering wheel shows a few markings and all flooring and headlining is very clean. Citroen 2CV owners will feel at home with the column gear change and the interconnected suspension with humorous lean when cornering, all part of the fun and soon adored by unfamiliar drivers. The boot area and floor is spotless. This classic really is enchanting.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
For drivers who rate low-cost motoring economy before performance, the Ami 8 Series with the 602cc air-cooled 35bhp is the perfect choice! The distinctive rumbling soundtrack is instantly familiar being shared with the 2CV along with the running gear and offers a truly unique and thrilling driving experience. The column gear change operates exactly as it should thanks to an expensive gearbox recondition in 2021 by the Chevronic Centre Ltd. Being like no other car today, is guaranteed to put a big smile on your face.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original painted steel wheels with bright spotless chrome hub-caps are presented in impeccable order and support the Citroen Car Club approved 2CV MCC 125 R15 Radial tyres. The vehicle stops quickly and in a straight line with the inboard disc brakes to the front and rear drums providing adequate stopping power.
HISTORY FILE
This rare UK RHD Citroen Ami 8 Series Confort was supplied new by Citroen main dealers, Bale & Co Ltd of Croydon, on the 16th September 1977 to a Mr D Alderton. This would make it one of the last to be produced before the Citroen Visa arrival. The original service book still contains the Citroen Service Card made out to Mr Alderton to be presented at service reception to reduce waiting times and further visits to the supplying dealer are stamped in the book. With only four subsequent former keepers, one of whom kept a diary with all maintenance work helping to prove the upkeep and care this example has enjoyed. Another noteworthy custodian is Robert Moss, company Director of the Chevronic Centre Ltd, specialists for Citroen classic cars. An information sheet included in the history file proudly boasts how he used the car for holidays to France several times after carrying out the restoration in 1998 on what was a structurally sound car to start with, also proven by photos in the history file. A testament to the works carried out is how well the car presents today over two decades later.
All handbooks, spare keys, manuals and a sales brochure are included. The car also featured in the 2010 movie, Never Let Me Go staring Keira Knightley. A DVD of the film is included in the history file! This really is the ultimate economical and dare to be different classic car!

I had a red one in 1977 as my first car.
It was only 3 years old but had 65k and had been badly abused - so was within my tiny budget. I put a clutch in it and tried my best to destroy it but it never let me down. Fond memories 😊

Year's ago my farmer neighbour had one. He delivered animal feeds/hay etc. Thin tyres and great articulation, perfect for crossing ploughed fields.

A very rare find this. What a lovely example of a rare UK RHD Citroen Ami 8 in such amazing condition.
The voltmeter on the dashboard appeared not to work when engine started but unless it 'took its time' as such. Simplicity was the name of the game for these cars, real French charm.

Bonnet needs a bit of adjustment as mine was a bit “proud” on the near side and it’s not hard to do. Lovely, lovely car and beautifully re trimmed!

I'm not a massive fan of French car but I must admit they did produce some very pretty cars in the 50s 60s and 70s I particularly think the citron traction Avant is one of there best .
