Plank growing is the best. I use Caitlin’s grow in water method. I put a plastic pot and plank separately in a basket so it looks good but the wood doesn’t rot. That’s a beautiful, large leaf healthy cutting. You’ll probably get really big leaves when it takes. Thanks Jeff!
I thought about placing the plank outside the pot, but figured it will take a long time to rot...I like the look of it in the pot for now. I may alter this down the road with something like you do. Thanks!

I've been wanting to do this as well I just need to get something to seal the lower piece of wood to keep it from rotting. I can't wait to see how well yours grow. Thanks for sharing.
Whenever I make a cut right before potting I dip in cinnamon mix with root hormone just to help cover an I've never had an issue and I'm pretty Impatient when it comes to waiting for them to callus
On the clay pots, my mother always soaked them about 15minutes before potting to ensure that the pots were saturated and wouldn't soak up the water in the soil.
Yes! I do this as well.....I can't remember if I did it in this video or not. I have shown it in other videos! Thanks for the reminder that I showed show this more often.
I enjoy watching your channel! Question, the pots seemed small to me for the size of the planks you used. Will the plants need to be repotted before they reach the top of the boards? Thanks.
Most likely need to be repotted but I'm okay with this....if you pot up too large to start with then the more soil you have there it retains moisture. I don't want my cuttings to rot, plus pothos tend to prefer a nice snug pot lol. Hope this answers your question.
Oh dear this is an old video now haha. It won't matter when it's that small of a cutting, but as it grows you can secure it to a plank or moss pole easily
I Purchased A Bunch Of Pothos I Have Rooting-Up Because I Wanted To See Some Bigger Pothos Leaves. They Are The Ones Called The Hawaiian Pothos That Can Grow Huge Leaves AND Of Course Are Tropically Beautiful!!! The Cuttings I Got DIDN'T Come With Huge Leaves... BUT I Had Planned To Stake Them Up To Make That HAPPEN!!! I've Always Grown Pothos As Trailing Plants BUT This Year POTHOS Can Definitely Walk The Plank For ME!!! See Ya Next Video E.P.!!!
I have a few small pots of established cuttings. Can I simply add a plank to those pots or maybe repot with a plank? Or is this project best when using newer cuttings?
You can add a plank or even just leave it outside the pot (leaning against the wall) and just secure the cuttings to the plank. That way you don't have to disturb the plant at all and it should be ready for new growth as spring approaches!
Hi Jeff. I have a question. I was gifted a Pothos that had several different size leaves. I think they were just potted up together to make one plant. The larger leaves were clearly on a plank at some point. Areal roots are like caterpillar feet. If I propagated and plank the larger leaves with bigger stems will that automatically make bigger leaves or is there more success working with the smaller leaves smaller stems?
Are you talking about taking node cuttings? And what do you plan on doing with the cuttings? Continue to trail or place on a support system and grow vertically?
@@EverythingPlants yes. Let me be more specific. I wanted to use the stems from the larger leaves since their are so many roots. I wanted to make single leaf cuttings, allow them to root in water and then put them on a plank. Will they continue to grow bigger? My goal is to create a pot full of very large leaves that I can eventually make into a large leaf hanging plant.
