Just buy a 5 year old Toyota Yaris, Suzuki Swift or Honda Jazz instead of this EV rubbish Zoe and you will never be faced with an £11k repair bill. More EV madness!!

How much is a Zoe worth ? He should have selected one of your choices (there are other good cars available) and then got a friend to accompany him in the friend's car, him in the Zoe, to a cliff, rolled the EV over the edge and got a lift back with his mate ..... and then started enjoying driving again. Trying it on with the insurance would, of course, be fraud and not recommended but simply disposing of the Zoe over the cliff would have taken a weight off of his mind. I imagine that a Zoe with an £11,000 bill hanging over it would be hard to get rid of in any other way.

With ice cars it turns out that there is an abundance of hot water available, worst case scenario is a small electric fan requiring replacement. One of my long term cars needed this, a new fan cost me £30 on ebay.

I wouldn't touch either a new or used EV with the proverbial barge pole. I'd even be wary of a used hybrid. I've done some sums comparing my 2013 1.6 petrol CMAX which averages 38.5mpg in mixed driving with a 2017 RAV4 hybrid with a consumer reported average (honest john real mpg) mpg of 44.0. Over five years, by which time the hybrid battery would be 12 years old, the fuel saving would be just under £1300 - probably half of what a new hybrid battery would cost. Sad to say, but the total cost of ownership is still going to be lowest with either a naturally aspirated petrol or one of the better diesels (DPF, EGR DMF issues notwithstanding). Indeed, a 2018 onwards Dacia Duster 1.5dci would cost me £600 less in fuel per annum compared with my CMAX based on real life mpg.

Although a family member has one of the more popular EVs , and I have driven it B on occasion, I still think they are rubbish, I’d rather drive my big ICE powered 7 year old Toyota family sedan , other than basic servicing and putting a few spanners on it to fit a tow bar , it hasn’t missed a beat , so expect that trend to continue for years to come , 7 years on it still drives like a beauty.
I would not touch an Ev brand new or second hand.
Imagine buying a second hand EV and then not many years later having to replace that massively expensive battery, why would anyone do that to themselves ?

I'm middle-aged and I bought myself a Peugeot 107 last year which is a badge engineered Toyota Aygo. No road tax, 60 mpg, parts are as cheap as chips, reliable, fun to drive, easy to service & a tough little car. Cost me £4k and I can fill the tank for 40 quid in about 3 minutes including payment.

I wouldn't risk buying a new EV, nevermind a used example. Case in point: my friend has a BMW 330E. Full charge gives a range of approx 130 miles.
Add in the repair costs, the battery fires, the cost of making the batteries including transportation, & the lack of charging points (plus cost & time).
My BMW 435D GT X-Drive achieves 35 mpg urban, & around the 50 mpg mark on a motorway or similar. It's also £180 to tax & £303 to insure. For a diesel it's very clean & best of all it will do approx 500 miles on a tank.
The whole EV / PHEV is a disaster. And the cost of these planet savers is a joke.

I bought a used EV and it’s one of the best cars I’ve ever driven. The only car I’d say was marginally better was a 2020 Mercedes S350, but for much less I have a car that rides as smooth and moves as quick.
Imagine my surprise when I found the fuel for it comes out of my f’kin wall. And it’s more than 10 times cheaper than petrol. Amazing.

Can anyone explain how a minor component malfunctioning on an otherwise useable car making that car uneconomical to keep, and hence written off, is good for the environment. How does the prospective over production of these cars needed to fill that gap of premature scrapping suggest that this is good for the environment? It’s a total joke. Even if your EV made it to 12 years old and needs a new set of batteries and is scrapped then. Many people have internal combustion engine cars that are well over 12 years old and totally serviceable.

We own 2 EVs (ID3 and Ioniq 5) which are over 2 years old and have around 30k and 40k km on the clock. I'd buy those 2nd hand any day. They are just great.
I think there are a few older models I would just not get anymore like the Zoe or an old Kona or so. But I think the cars from 2020 on like the ID3 will be great used cars. We're just not yet in the used car market that offers those.

I had one of the first Zoe’s over 10 years ago. It spent 3 months in a dealership whilst they worked out a ˋDanger. Do not drive. High voltage“ error. Now drive a BMW i3 range extender which has not missed a beat. I do love the drive of an EV, as well as an Alfa Busso 3.6 mind. Not good PR for Renault but not for VW with Diesel gate or Ford leaving customers with a dud engine due to their wet belt ecoboost scandal.

People are so jealous of EV drivers lol. My husband and I bought a 2010 Nissan Leaf last month and we love it. Silent motoring, it hardly costs anything per mile and charging up has allowed us to go for a bite to eat or a few coffees. People have criticised it saying if we use the heater in winter the range will drop to something like 5 miles because our battery is only showing 1 bar when charged. This is utter nonsense. These people are just jealous because they are paying through the nose for petrol.

Cold, wet weather: fasten both buttons.

    Warmer weather: undo both.
The warmer weather option doesn't get much use here in the gloomy north of England, which is probably just as well; you don't know the true meaning of 'panic' till you've had a wasp disappear into your cleavage.😲 Ask me how I know...
