Do you think the SM57 will outlive the SM7B in the long-run? Both are fantastic mics, but if you're on a budget, the 57 is no joke! Thanks for watching! Smash the LIKE and SUBSCRIBE buttons if you enjoy the content
Very useful video Chris! I must say that the capsules don't seem to be aligned in your test though. One thing that makes the SM7 so special is that you can't be super close to the capsule. It's in the center of the little cage, at maybe 1.5" to 2" from the edge of the mic. At the distance of the test, I feel like it's not a night and day difference, but in a closer setup, the proximity effect will drastically change everything.
Terrific! Saves me a bunch. I'd love to have a SM7B, but for what I'm doing at home, the SM57 with a $15 Shure A2WS and some EQ will do nicely. Appreciate you going through the EQ adjustments. Thanks Chris.
Great video. I always thought that when I see/hear someone using an SM7B, which is almost always in a speaking context, that the lows were stronger, it had greater depth with the lows of the human speaking voice. Your video showed me something very different. Now I don't feel like I need an SM7B considering that I have a couple of SM57s! Thanks Chris!
It would have been interesting if you used the mics for instruments too. I still say the 57 is the better mic. The price jump is also the usb setup. Checkout the price of the xlr to usb connector...

Yes
@@dannyshearman7068 the 57 has already outlasted the SM7B. it came out in 1965... the SM7B came out in the early 2000's.

Thanks for watching! SM7B is great but you’ve got great mics with the 57s 😁

An audio interface does exactly that and usually has pre-amps and better control over your source
Have you tried putting the SM7B foam on the SM57? Does it sound like a 7B?????
