    You forgot to mention in the video that I only need to shave about as often as an 11 year child does. I still have the two replacement cartridges that came with the original razor.. no one actually changes out their cartridge based on manufacturer recommendations (especially when you only have to shave 30 hairs a week). Thus I legitimately only spend about $10 a year on shaving products.

      Jeff you bring up a great point. Initial investment on the safety razor can be more expensive. Yearly cost of razors for the safety razor with the Astra superior platinum will keep your yearly spend at about $5 if following recommended razor swap. I switch my blades out more frequently and probably use about 100 a year or about $10 as well. There are a few things I also didn't cover including shave soap costs, aftershaves, and buying additional safety razors (because enthusiasts in the community do like having more). I wanted to make the case cut and dry and use base line metrics by following recommendations. I will have a new video soon covering safety razor budget shaving. But really you can use the same shave creams that you would use with a cartridge razor so wasn't a really big topic for this video. I'm sorry I used you as the "villian" in this short film.

    Well argued! We shall ignore the cost of buying 50 soaps and 40 balms and 5000 razor blades (because, you know, the zombie apocalypse may come) etc. because that is optional and only for those who fall down the rabbit hole. You made the case well. And there is nothing better than a fine quality tool in the hand vs. a cheap piece of plastic.

      Thanks for watching. Yeah. If you had to, you could definitely just have one soap and one balm. I did for years when I first started and then I began making videos about the hobby haha.

    If money is no concern cartridge is the best. I've tried everything and dedicated more time than i should have. Gillette fusion 5 is the best blade, closest shave 1 or 2 pass, never nicks never cuts, never razor burn out ingrown hairs. Buttery smooth feels like i never had facial hair before.
    I have thick and dense facial hair.

    Unfortunately, I lived in Cartridgeland withJeff for most of my life. I saw the light shine brightly across the street on Safety Blvd and quickly moved. Took my family with me and we have never looked back. So far I have almost 20 people that have moved as well. Just a better way to shave!🤷🏼‍♂️💪🏼

      I recommended The Twig to folks when I first started, but now I recommend the Rockwell 6S (or 6C) just due to its overall customization with the plates to find what’s right for them. A guy had his 6S delivered yesterday and called me, and I think that is the 5th or 6th Rockwell friends have purchased in the last 2 weeks (no I’m not on commission and no I do not work for any razor company🤣).. I used to hate buying cartridges and love knowing that I nor my sons will ever have to again!

    Jeff, you’re still wrong. Great video by the way. I used to get by with a cartridge every three months or so by shaving only once or twice a week and basically waiting until the cartridge was ripping my hair out before changing. I’m much more well groomed now.

    So funny and true! I have the same Gillette razor:
    For years I have been shaving with my Oyster professional hair trimmer, Phillips electric shaver and a Gillette Fusion5 cartridge without the battery...lol
    This week I bought the Rockwell 6C in gunmetal because it was on sale, designed in Canada and seems well respected.
    Just enjoying the journey down the rabbit hole. Ordered a couple of blade sampler packs that include the Nacet, Astra and many others. Cheers and thanks....

    The only advantage of the cartridge razors compare to safety razors is the speed you can save without cutting yourself... Nothing else!!! Ofc they are overal more expensive and they can't make the same deep saving like safety razors.

    • @GregTardif
      @GregTardif  3 роки тому +2

      I think with enough practice you can quickly shave with a safety razor. Probably wouldn’t be as enjoyable as taking your time and enjoying the process, but Is we what you mean. Thanks for watching.

    Man, the “put it in your right hand and throw it out” part was spot on not only in what to do with a cartridge razor but also in the editing style. Haha I feel sad for my man Jeff who is indeed wrong, but to each their own in the world of shaving. Cheers!

  • @Emissary355

    Great video. When you compare the price costs it's absolutely ridiculous how much you'll be spending on cartridges every year. Those are ridiculously expensive and the manufacturers now try to trick you into throwing the cartridge away before it's done. They have a blue conditioning strip at the top and they tell you as soon as it turns white it's time to change your cartridge. Well guess what, shaving your head just once will turn that strip white even though the blades are still good, so deceitful!
    The initial cost of investing in a safety razor is more expensive but in the long run you'll save hundreds of dollars buying the blades. As you point out you can get 100 packs between 10 and 12 dollars usually depending on the brand. Another downside of these five blade razors is that it makes it harder to shave certain spots because it's so big, like under the nose and around your ears when head shaving. The safety razor's single blade can get those spots much easier and more effectively. Now the five blade Gillette does have that single blade on the back for hard to reach areas but in my opinion the blade is weak and won't give the same sharp edges as a safety razor will.
    These gimmicks of 3 blade, 5 blades, 6 blades, putting in a triple A battery so the razor vibrates as you shave are all gimmicks. If people smartened up and switched to safety razors they'd put these cartridge companies out of business very quickly! So your final analysis is correct, throw that cartridge razor in the trash, don't buy more cartridges for it and waste more money!
    Your friend Jeff is wrong and you are right Greg!

    • @GregTardif
      @GregTardif  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your thoughtful response. I haven’t tried shaving my head (yet, that day is coming) but I imagine it’s harder on the blades than on your face for sure.

    • @Emissary355
      @Emissary355 2 роки тому

      @@GregTardif Yes head shaving does wear out your blades faster especially combined with face shaving as well. But with the large number of safety razor blades you can buy cheaply it won't hurt your wallet much. But it definitely has a bigger impact if you are head and face shaving with cartridges because of how expensive they are.
      Another great thing about safety razors I forgot to mention is that you can let your hair/beard grow out for a few weeks or even a couple of months and just pull the razor out and shave when you feel like it. Try doing that with a cartridge razor and it will get stuck because the multi blades will get clogged up in the hair, so you have to use a trimmer to get it down to stubble length first.
      Cartridge razors are designed for shaving stubble only, whereas safety razors work on stubble and longer hair. This is just another major checkmark for safety over cartridge, tell that to your friend Jeff!

  • @tommasosantojanni
    @tommasosantojanni Рік тому +1

    Why switch in my case?
    I never had ingrown hair or irritation 🤷🏻‍♂️ and I don't buy the claim that cutting the hair slightly UNDER the skin level will deliver a LESS smooth shave than the DE cut AT skin level.
    If cost is the only advantage left for me, then why switch? A hundred dollars more a year are worth the greater convenience, for me.
    It would be different if the DE shave were ACTUALLY smoother than the cartridge, but I simply don't buy that, sorry 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @jackkraken3888
      @jackkraken3888 8 місяців тому

      That should be the case since the blade is closer to the skin in a safety razor. Cartridge razors have a small metal lip on the left and right hand side of the cartridge to help hold the three or more blades, which doesn't exist in a safety razor.
