I've said this before in comments on other channels but in my opinion, cartridge razors, especially the expensive 3, 4 and 5 blade ones, are one the biggest legalized scams to have ever hit the market. DE razors are literally superior in nearly every way. Nothing has ever been released for wet shaving that is superior to a good DE razor. I find it really humorous that they even go so far on the box at to advertise these as "trimming, or grooming razors." It's like the don't want any newbies to DE razors to get the idea that they can actually use this to shave their face, as it's really meant for.

I totally agree with the spirit of your comment with a minor exception. Cartridges may be okay for people with parkinsons or motor neuron disease for example so I really not completely against them. But they are a scam overall for sure because they market a product that can legitimately serve a niche market for everyone. Most people 98% would benefit from using a safety razor instead.

For me, the safety razor beats the cartridge every time, by every measure. No contest. I also enjoy a shavette shave, on occasion, with the caveat of extra time and precaution. I usually enjoy a shavette shave on the weekends or a day off work, when there's more time. Otherwise, the safety razor easily wins for bbs shaves in the least amount of time, with the most comfort and least amount of caution and effort.

I'm a black man and the fusion works better for ME. Be it due to different texture or thickness of "stubble" or whatever. Although it does cut nice and close, I get knicked with the safety razor if I'm not extremely careful, however with the fusion i can have a bit more liberty without cuttin myself open(it's my wallet that takes a cuttin). We're all different and to each their own. Thanks the video was a helpful guide.

Hi Jimi, yes there is a learning curve to using a safety razor. I've made 2 recent videos... "Beginner Budget Shave" and a video called "Shaving under the nose" where I teach the techniques of shaving with a safety razor.
As for "nicking yourself" that all about technique and it's a wise idea to have a styptic until one masters the skills. Like a chef learning how to use a knife or a carpenter using a chisel. Fear of cutting oneself if healthy (ie not or warfarin or prone to infections) shouldn't be feared but an encouragement to improve and develop ones skill for a flawless shave like million of men could do before the cartridges came out.
The King C Gillette safety razor is ideal for beginners... and if you have say 5 days of growth the fusion will struggle but the safety razor will effortlessly mow through the stubble as you can see on the video.
I do mention that the fusion has a purpose, it's good for people who have motor neurons disease, parkinson's or those who find it difficult to pick up the right technique for a safety razor. This is why my recent videos I have focused on technique for beginners. Also not all safety razor are the same, they all shave very differently. This is why so many wet shavers love to explore the variety of safety razors.
Some of the variables of a safety razor are:
      1) Blade exposure
      2) Blade gap (the space between the blade and safety bar)
      3) Cutting/Shave Angle (how the blade is crimped in the head)
      4) Blade stiffness (how the blade is pinched)
So this is why I've specifically featured this razor the King C Gillette. As a black man, the safety razor is superior though for most black men the tendency is to suffer in grown hair, so I would only recommend sticking to 2 with the grain passes. You can have a flawless safety razor shave, light touch and technique.
However if my rather lengthy response can't sway you to watch the my 2 other videos talking about technique and giving safety razor shaving another try then I am glad the fusion works for you. If for nothing else, the safety razor is much better for the environment than the fusion. DE blades can be recycled. The fusion can't.
Let me know what you think...
      God Bless,
      John.

Jimi, I’m glad you have learned to enjoy wet-shaving. The best tip I can give most guys is “don’t push-just pull.” That means to let the razor do the work. Very light pressure as you ‘pull’ the blade along your face. Don’t ‘push’ the blade against the skin. If you continue to have any problems.... I have a friend who has had good luck with the BEVEL shaving system. It’s aimed at some of the unique needs of black men who enjoy DE shaving. Remember, advice is worth what you pay for it and mine was free!

Before I say anything, I feel obliged to state that I'm not a fanatic admirer of Gillette products. My number one top favorite safety razor is the adjustable Taiga made by HomelikeShaving.
    But:
This King C. Gillette DE safety razor is a wonderful piece of mystery. It actually is an extraordinary shaving instrument that constantly keeps me busy thinking about the essential question: Why so cheap??? Why have the Gillette people in Russia and China developed and constructed such an excellent, extraordinary quality, all-purpose safety razor, available at this ridiculously low price? Is it Gillette's tricky way to kick down the competition companies such as Mühle, Merkur, Parker etc., whose popular products are much more expensive though remarkably lower in quality?
In any case, this King C. Gillette safety razor represents the best unadjustable DE safety razor on the market. Don't get discouraged by the ridiculously low price. The joy of shaving with this safety razor is just striking, and the smoothness and quality of the result is absolutely excellent. To make the long story short, as regards the non-adjustable side of safety razors, I love this King C. Gillette safety razor!

I must begin stating my whole-hearted agreement with your assessment of the comparative quality of the two shaves and recommendation that the DE shave is better.
The KCG safety razor is still widely available in the US and I actually see the availability spreading and increasing. I think Gillette is counting on making money by selling 10 blades for $6. At $.60 per blade there is a good profit margin available. And most wet shavers are going to change blades every few days to a week. Cartridges are recommended to last somewhat longer.
Another aspect of Gillette’s marketing involves their acquisition of the Art of Shaving retail chain. AoS used to carry more variety of wet shaving razors and blades. IMO they now promote Gillette razors (like the Mach 3) much more. I also think that Gillette wants to build the “street cred” around one of their own new DE razors so that they can really feature it in the AoS stores. I look for a “high-end” version to become available for sale through AoS stores before very long. Maybe all brass, stainless steel, or a reissue of their initial dabble in a return to DE razors-the Gillette “Heritage” model (which is an excellent razor BTW).
An important note about cartridges is that each stroke is actually 3, 4, or 5 blades passing over the skin. Four strokes could be the equivalent of up to 20 passes with a DE razor. No wonder the fusion creates so much additional irritation and ingrown hairs!
