52] Using ALCOHOL INKS on BLACK or Dark SURFACES - Easy Flower TUTORIAL
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
- In response to a common viewer question, this video explains how to easily use alcohol inks on dark, even black, surfaces. I show you, step by step, how to paint a bright, aster-like flower that practically pops off the black ceramic tile used for this piece.
All the inks I used in this video are from Ranger's Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink line, including a couple of this year's new colors.

= FOR THIS PIECE I USED :
the following Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks from Ranger:
Flamingo
Coral
Shell Pink
Butterscotch
Dandelion
Limeade
Botanical (green)
Oregano
Snow Cap
Alcohol Blending Solution : amzn.to/2uVoBii
91% Isopropyl Alcohol
To seal an alcohol ink piece I use a museum quality spray by Krylon: Kamar Varnish. Unlike most spray varnishes and acrylic sprays, it will not react with the alcohol inks. 🔹Here is a link: amzn.to/2jGh3KO

Anything you want to do is great by me!! I’m watching everything I can as soon as I’m able!
Myriam you’re the Bob Ross of alcohol inks! Would love to see birds in alcohol inks. Thanks for sharing.
Myriam....my kids told me decades ago that my 'stick ppl' didn't look like ppl....so i am definitely lacking any God given artistic ability. However, the way you show steps in creating a flower, I do believe I could handle. I'll have to give it a try once my 'resin obsession' fades a bit. Thank you for all the patience with you videos!!
Loved this!! New to alcohol inks and studying up. Now I’m hooked!!💖
Beautiful, Myriam! Your soothing, knowledgeable voice teaches us we can do anything we set our heart and soul on! Thank you!
Hi Miriam, I have just come across your beautiful flower whilst going down the list for a person I follow, and as it was a lively flower I thought I’d watch it. Tomorrow I have my 11 yr old granddaughter and we are going to play for the very first time with alcohol inks, by ranger. I’ve got 6 plus a metallic and rubbing alcohol and blender so you can imagine my joy at watching the plain black tile come to life in a few minutes with three colours plus the other bits. I haven’t got white yet but this time next week I will have. Thank you so much for taking my fear away, and looking forward to playing in the morning. We will be using paper this time guided by Jennifer McGuire so we shall have something by lunch time. Thank you so much for your time and talent who helps people like myself finding courage to have a go. Bless you my new friend. X Ros
Oh thank you for that amazingly thoughtful and kind comment Ros! It so thoroughly warmed my heart! I hope that you enjoy your time with your granddaughter and have endless fun creating. May you and yours be blessed. 🤗😘💕💖
I really love flowers, birds, sealife and nature/botanical pictures. I want to make some nice coasters for gifts.
I love your flowers with alcohol inks, I'm a polymer clay artist, I do work with resin, I've watched people drop alcohol inks then add white drops and see everything change, that fascinates me, thank you!
I love landscapes and flowers and abstracts!
So glad to have found your site!!
I learnt so much,I’m thrilled.
Love the black background . Thank you for showing us how to use alcohol inks on black. Would love some galaxies on that black background tile when you get a chance! And thanks again for your inspiration!
Love it on the black !
I love this! I’m a “GO” for anything you feel like creating as this technique is nothing short of stunning! Flowers are my favorites but abstract could be stunning as well. Thanks for sharing this with us and I’ll be watching for more!
I have just purchased some alcohol inks to try. Thank you for showing me what else to mix with them and how to apply to wet surfaces and also to black tiles.
such a beautiful painting and the black background makes it pop
Thank you Laura! 😊
I love to paint on black, and this is good way to get the colors pop, Again another great video,
Yes, Yes, Yes! Anything you can do would be great. Thank you so much for giving me inspiration. You're explanations are the best I've ever heard and the easiest to understand. I haven't painted for a log time. You make me want to try this technique.
That’s awesome to hear... thank you !! 😊💕
Thank you, always enjoy your videos. Love the flower, would also like to see animals and landscapes.
😊💕 🦅🦋🏞🌄
Thank you. I'd love to see more flowers...🖌 this is beautiful.
I love the way you show how to “flick” the petal shapes on your daisy, I tried your technique with a cone flower I Inked and it tuned out great! Thank you!
That’s awesome to hear... thank you for taking time to tell me! 😊💕
I loved your suggestions! and that you paint with both hands!!
You are incredible to watch. So informative, humorous and you create a wonderful relaxing feeling is inspiring
I have not used my alcohol inks much -until now. Doing a happy dance - gonna go play -you have me fired up LOL
😊💕
OMG- Myriam!! I feel better about trying to do this!! You made This lovliness look not so hard to!! Abstracts and animals for me..
Myriam, once again I watch in awe. They were out of white at my local art store last week but I'm going to my home improvement store for a black tile. I want to be ready to try my hand at making a beautiful floral on tile when I find the white ink! Of course you make it look so easy and I'll probably wipe my tile clean 5 times before I'm happy but you gotta start somewhere!
First of all, thank you so much for the kindness Elisabeth! Trust me when I say that many tiles were wiped clean at my house… Many! That’s the beauty of both working on tile and having alcohol on hand! 😂😉 BTW, if your local store carries the Piñata alcohol ink line by Jacquard, the “Blanco Blanco” (white) will work equally well. 😊
This is wonderful! As a Newbie I so appreciate your videos. You are a wonderful teacher. I'm in for anything you can teach me.
😊💕 Thank you!!
HI myriam, lovely tutorial, thankyou, the flower pops on the black background, as you would say "Ilove it" .roses, sunsets and beaches please!!!!!
Just do what brings you joy, I've never seen one of your videos that I didn't like! Even if it's not something I intend to do...it's fascinating to watch you create!
What can I say....you always make such beautiful and inspiring art. Thank you.
Thank you ever so much Norma!
I love it. I use the inks for my jewelry making with egg shells. But now that I am into the painting will try this. Thanks so much for sharing this is beautiful....
Qa
Very pretty! I absolutely LOVE all inks... alcohol, india and acrylic. So happy I found you!
Same here Patty… Thank you! 😊💕
Absolutely stunning! Your video's are always fun and informative - thanks. You have great imagination and lots of talent. Keep up the good work!
I’ve missed you. So good to hear your chuckles again.
😊💕
Ambidextrous... impressive!!! Putting those jazz hands to work! Love your teaching style. While my craft is woodwork with resin art and a lot of carving, I apply many of the techniques you have shown me! Thanks so much. Keep it up!
That’s awesome to hear... thank you Jana! About the right hand, I can only use it for simple tasks... for detail work, drawing, writing etc, I’m a bona fide leftie! 😄💕
I, too, am a lefty. We're in our RIGHT MIND!!
More flowers and abstracts
Great per usual
Just found your videos - so very pretty and helpful! You made me laugh with your glove comment - sounds just like me. Thanks for sharing your talent!
So gorgeous! The tutorial was very, very good!
Wish I was your neighbour - I would be looking over the fence all the time to see what new with you! Thanks this is fantastic!
I can’t thank you enough for this one! I have black tiles and have tried a few times to work with them. I will now be able to actually use then! Wonderful also this is the first time I’ve ever seen this one along with a bunch more oh my goodness! Merry Christmas happy birthday welcome to retirement!!!!
Ha... You make me giggle so much Annette… I am super excited for all the fun you clearly are having! I can’t wait to see the projects you immerse yourself in. Thank you for your happy energy! 😘💕
Very pretty. I have always worked on light surfaces. I will definitely have to try darker backgrounds now Thanks for sharing.
WOW beautiful image and vibrant images.
😊💕
You are so awesome. I could watch you videos all day. You are very talented and a very good teacher. Thanks for sharing
😊💕
I really love abstract too!
😊
Nice tutorial Myriam!! I just got into the alcohol inks and i'm having a blast with them on yupo! I also found another surface to paint on- Oracle Vinyl..I got it at Michaels and the yupo on amazon. Yupo is PRICEY! But I bought the big sheets and cut into 4 so it goes a long way. Thank you for the Snow Cap!! I had no idea about that. Now another one to buy..lol Have a blessed day!
Hi Lissie... First of all thank you so much for the kind words. I have never heard of Oracle Vinyl… I will definitely take a look at that! Thank you very much for sharing that tip with us! 😊💕
you are welcome sweetie!! It has an adhesive back..so you can attach it to cardstock when its dry!! I again cut the sheets in 4..they are less than 2 dollars a sheet and come in ALL colors!!
Doubly awesome! Thank you, thank you!
Thank you for showing the flowers. I love them, but just never can get them to resemble anything growing on this planet! I also noticed you can paint with both hands! (So jealous since I can't paint even with one hand! ) I would love to see more flowers, animals and other inks. You are such an amazing teacher. Hope springs eternal! :)
I will be happy to oblige Gerry!
I love that you make alien flowers... remember, nature loves variety!
About the seeming ambidextrous ability, it’s only for more basic tasks like making the flower petal strokes. I wouldn’t be able to do something like draw well with my right hand at all. For serious things I’m a diehard leftie! 😄
Thank you for the kind words and the chuckle! 😊💕
Myriam's Nature Hello again! I have to ask since I also live in Michigan; do you give private lessons? I REALLY need help, a patient teacher and a minor miracle! I am seriously asking. Please email me if you would consider it. I would gladly drive to your choice of place to do this. Thank you and God bless you.
Gerry S. gms0453@att.net
I love that! Now I’m on to get black tiles.
Miriam, you always get me inspired to bring out my alcohol inks and play. Looking forward to picking up some black tiles!
That's awesome to hear… Thank you Cheryl! 😊💕
Psst Cheryl.. Its Myriam with a 'y' 😉
Ha... I giggled out loud at that ... thank you Miarosie ! 😄😘💖
Love it! This was sooo controlled! Like what snowcap does! I like all examples!
I appreciate that Rose... Thank you!! The white ink changes everything... it makes the inks all the more versatile! 😊💕
Yes I would love to see more inks! First time seeing alcohol ink and it was awesome. I want to learn how to use and paint with alcohol inks. Thank You
Will do! 😊💕
I love it when you laugh! “Oregano..it sounds like I’m cooking...it’s almost a “brownie” color”. Haha! Betcha didn’t catch that one😂. Do you like to receive your viewers art that is inspired by your videos? I’ve wondered..what do you do with all of your finished tiles? I give some as gifts, but I have so many because in the beginning I used them as an inexpensive base to practice on. Your flowers are beautiful! I love them as a set. I have one black tile left and I’m going to paint a flower on it today. That’s one thing I haven’t done. I usually blow my flowers. Thanks for the inspiration! I’m going to pull out all of the bottles now🎨💐❤️
Abstracts and galaxies would be my request.
You got it Blaiz!! 😊
Just found this tutorial, now I need some black tiles. I really like the look. I seem to like the “real “ alcohol ink pictures better than the “wispy” ones. Thanks again
Thank you Myriam. Love your work and examples. Your voice is soothing. Youare my new friend here at home. xoxo
What a lovely thing to say ... thank you Pat! 😊💕
I need snow Cap! Great tutorial as usual Myriam.. lovely to hear your chuckle😘
Aww, thank you Joyce! 😊
WOW! What a beautiful flower you created! This was the BEST video tutorial about alcohol inks I have seen so far. Thanks!! Please more flowers and maybe an abstract :)
Oooh ambidextrous painting!
Only for simple things ... otherwise I’m really a full on leftie 😄.
another wonderful video. I would love to see you do something fairyish , maybe on black tile with matalic. I see like a fairy with night sky and stars on a hill with a few abstract flowers fir a pop of color. oh yes.
Ooooooh.... I LOVE that idea Nadara!!! Would you believe I collect fairies and have at least a couple in every room in my house! 🧚🏼♂️💕🧚♀️💕🧚🏼♂️ I will happily do that!
Thank you for sharing. Very nice flower.
wowzers!!!! what a stunning painting. Really loved the poppies. Would love to see more videos from you both alcohol and acrylics. You're a very talented artist Myriam!
😊💕
Some tulips wud be great
I love all your ideas about the alcohol inks. Ive learned so much. I’ll be painting on a black tile within the hour. Thank you for the inspiration!
Hey I've commented a few times but thanks again Myriam (with a y!) I saw some alcohol ink drawings at an art show and I loved it. I make art myself so I figured I'd give it a shot, thanks for all the advice it's a lot more daunting than just picking up a pencil or whatever.
I apologize if I’ve not been able to respond Jeff... I get so many comments, messages and emails a day... it’s like a 2nd and 3rd job 😄. Alcohol ink is a fascinating medium to be sure... full of truly endless possibilities.
If you’re on FB, I’d love to have you join my group... there are a lot of alcohol ink artists sharing their work, resources, etc. It’s a great place to ask questions, get inspired, and show off what YOU make. If you’re interested, here is the link: facebook.com/groups/Myriams.Fluid.Art.Tribe 😊
I love this, would love to see some. Strachey flowers.
I'm not artistic in the least, but trying to learn nail art just for myself, even though I'm an old lady. One of the things I want to experiment with is alcohol inks. So my ex hubby sent me some, plus I made some using Sharpies. Watched this in an attempt to learn a little more about how this ink works. Subscribed because I love your style! Thank you!
Hi Pam… Everyone has an artist inside… Sometimes it’s just about finding her and letting her out. This video I did on getting started with alcohol inks might help you even more: ua-cam.com/video/3gfjq1sTCf4/v-deo.html
If you are on Facebook, please send me a message at facebook.com/MyriamsNature ... I would like to be able to send you a note. 😊💕

Thank you Myriam. I am hooked on your videos.
Thank YOU! 😊💕
Thank you. Landscape videos would be awesome!!
Will do Donna! 😊💕
Love, and I would like more flowers 🌷
Beautiful. Love watching all of your videos. I do mostly greeting cards and would love to see how these inks could be incorporated. Seeing you in those gloves had me chuckling....had to take a break from videos and have missed your laughter and wit. As well as your instruction. Thanks so much for sharing.
Hi Trudie ... I love the idea of being able to use art that we make for cards. I will definitely film some videos on doing just that. Thank you for your lovely, thoughtful comment. 😊💕
Love this. Well done. I'll appreciate anything you do. Your tutorials are superb. Thank you.
Love this Myriam, thank you
Would love to see more flowers and representational art.
😊💕 You got it Belinda!
Myriam, thanks for this video, it was very interesting. I thought that maybe putting the ink in the little paint pots, it would dry up, but with the blending solution, maybe that keeps the time you have open longer. I love the flower, and the black background looks wonderful :)
Thank you Teresa!! And yes, the blending solution, and the isopropyl alcohol, both help extend the open time of the inks. 😊💕
What an inspiration you are! Thank you for sharing. Just beautiful!
What a lovely thing to say ... Thank you Cindy! 😊💕
Would love to see abstracts with alcohol inks on larger black tiles. You are awesome.

Ha... I was playing with acrylic skins and decided to put a skin on my thumbnail 💅. I’m glad it wasn’t too distracting. 😄💕😘
I love your voice!
cosmlayla and her free flowing laughter!
Thank you both so much! 😊💕
Loved your video. As always, the detailed instructions make it so easy to achieve great art. Each video you publish adds to my knowledge of art supplies and how to use them. Knowing how to use the different medias to create fantastic looking projects gives me confidence to try new project, knowing the end project will be beautiful, by following your detailed instructions. I look forward to the small fun filled pieces you create. I love seeing alcohol inks videos for small landscapes and flowers. I particularly love landscape pictures featuring bodies of water.
Hi Marina… Thank you ever so much for this amazingly kind and thoughtful comment! I am always so touched by you.
I will happily make landscapes with water! It's so funny, I recently noticed that all the landscapes hanging in my house have some type of water in them, be it a stream, and ocean, a lake… it seems I like them quite a bit myself! 😄 Thank you again for your lovely words! 😘💖😊
Truly love this creation! A very helpful tutorial on Snowcap which I've just bought, but not used yet. Would love to see some landscapes you create! Thank you so much for sharing your talent!
Really Beautiful love the video only just found you .I am going to have another try with my alcohol inks tried last year but did not know enough about them ,please keep doing your video's they help so much thank you.

Who told you I bought some black tiles? Lol... 😂 Your timing couldn't be better. Looks great, can't wait to try this too!!! Thank you. GOD bless.
A little birdie whispered in my ear… I'm so glad it worked out for you! Thank you for letting me know. Many thanks, and may you be blessed as well. 😊💕
Yes please...to all ink videos! How do you seal the tile?
Wonderful......I love abstracts
😊💕
You’re always so informative. I always wondered why you do things so small until you said you make jewelry. 😁
I guess I am more at home on a smaller canvas… My mind understands that space better but I am periodically getting myself to think a big! 😉💕😊 Thank you Judy!
I love this technique! Had been wondering how to paint on black!!
