Wonderful video. Great techniques and explanations. Haven't touched my alcohol inks in almost a year and looking forwarded to starting up again after seeing this video! Thank you!
Great techniques. Often, we just see all the random blowing and ink going everywhere. This is much more controlled and helpful if you want to do something with an actual shape. Thank you!
Hi Karen, in this video I’m working on a ceramic tile. These effects will also work well on any non porous surface, such as synthetic papers and pre-varnished canvas 😃 hope this helps! And thanks so much for watching 💕
This is gorgeous work, Madeleine, I love alcohol ink, still not very experienced. Are you using a tile here, that’s what it looks to me? I guess you can use a heat tool on tile much better than on paper(Yupo or others) because that could warp. My problem with the blower, I can’t use it too long it hurts my older hands 😔. So I mostly use a hairdryer,or actually it’s a curling blower without the attachments, you probably seen it, I’ve seen many people using it. The problem is sometimes it blows too hard (even on lower setting). My question is the heating tool is less powerful as far as blowing than the hair dryer, or is it the same? Also I assume it’s warmer than the hair dryer,so the ink and alcohol doesn’t dry too fast? Are you using it on paper too? I’m asking because I wanted to get a heating tool/gun i just don’t know if it’s very similar with the hair dryer than there is no point in buying one. Have you used an air compressor, I heard that’s better than a hair dryer or heat gun for certain thing, like blowing a flower. I don’t know if it’s true. Anyway, again your work is beautiful and you’re a very good teacher, would love 😊
Hi Lu Lu, in this video I’m using white ceramic tile 😃 and no I don’t usually put up any borders I just let the ink flow, thanks so much for watching 🥰
Hi Allie, I found the Jacquard Pinata Inks to be the most economical, you can buy a starter pack for $35CAD and it has a decent range to start with including metallics. I use a lot of Ranger and Copic Inks because they have a really great color range, but they are a bit more pricey. Thanks so much for watching!
@@tanyaford9856 I purchased my heat gun on Amazon it’s called Mlife mini heat gun, super affordable I use it on the low setting always. If they made one that didn’t generate heat that would be better but I can’t seem to find a blow dryer that isn’t an awkward hair dryer shape with no heat.
Quick question what medium are you working on? Is that a stretch canvas or is that a tile? I’m sorry I’m not sure what if you’ve already explained it. I apologize.
This is so beautiful. I'm new to fluid art. Can u tell me what inks are these exactly and what are you using it on, I mean what kind of paper or canvas.
Hello! I’m use a few different ink brands Piñata, Ranger inks and Copic inks. In their video I use a ceramic tile to do all the demos b/c they are super easy to clean off and start again on, but if I’m creating a piece i usually use grafix craft plastic, sealed canvas or white board if im going to pour a resin finish on it. I hope this helps and thanks for the questions and for watching 🥰
I’ll do both depending on what I’m going for, for most pieces I’ll start with a layer of isopropyl alcohol then add the inks to that to help the fluid to blend and flow better 😃
Really great video. I have many issues with this art process, but one thing, please tell me how your gold clumps up as my piñata brass always blends in and never clumps up. How do you get it to do that?
Sorry I’m so late to the game but you can also use the Ranger Alcohol Blending Solution instead of straight ISO which absolutely makes my Metallics (piñata brass included) clump in the most beautiful way. It does have ISO in it but other stuff like ethanol and glycol-something-or-other :). Beautiful vid!
Hi Madeliene, thanks soooo much! So helpfull! ❤🙏 May I ask what kind of table do you use, if it is a table? Does it look like wood, or is it a synthetic material? Thanks and big hug from Italy! 🌈
Hi Elena! I use a standard art table that you can move up and down like an easel, but since alcohol ink art requires a flat surface it use it flat 100% of the time lol the surface of it is a wood veneer, but I didn’t really like the color of it so I covered it with an adhesive wallpaper with a wood grain pattern I liked then I have a clear acrylic sheet on top of that so the alcohol doesn’t stain the wallpaper. The acrylic sheet is super easy to clean, I just wipe it clean with isopropyl after each piece 😃 thanks for the question and thanks so much for watching! Sending lots of love!
Hi Madeliene! Thanks for the detailed answer! 🙏I really appreciated it because not everyone is willing to share their artistic "secrets". This makes you a TRUE Artist and a beautiful person. Thanks again, I will follow you with great pleasure! Big hug! ❤🤗
You definitely can! The ink doesn’t take long to dry at all I’d say 5-10 mins depending on how saturated but alcohol dries very quickly. You will however need to seal the alcohol ink background with an acrylic varnish before adding a stencil so the alcohol ink doesn’t reactivate and dissolve. Or you can stencil over with a water based medium like acrylic paint then seal finished piece after. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!
Hi Ashley, I drip the one color first, then drip the metallic on top and then flood with isopropyl alcohol before blending. Hope this helps! and thanks for watching!
Hi! I purchased the heat tool on Amazon it’s called an Mlife heat gun, I always use the lower heat setting. There’s a link in the description. And the precision tip bottles are filled with 99% isopropyl alcohol. Hope this helps! And thanks for watching
It's the Ranger Ink Alcohol Ink Blower Tool, its basically a lens blower but a bit bigger to push more air. rangerink.com/collections/tim-holtz-alcohol-inks/products/tim-holtz-alcohol-ink-blower
Hi Sherry, in this video I'm using a ceramic tile. If using canvas make sure to seal it with something like liquitex gloss varnish, you want to make sure whatever surface you're using is non-porous so it doesn't soak up the inks. thanks for watching!
Hi! It is! You just need to make sure you prep your canvas to make it non-porous, you’ll need to seek it with an acrylic varnish to make it water proof or else it will just soak up the inks and won’t allow them to flow the same, thanks so much for watching! 🥰😃💕

Hi, lovely video, thanks. For your first tile, what have you put on it before adding the alcohol ink?
I believe it was alcohol.
Hi Hayley! I added 99% Isopropyl Alcohol 😃
Stunning ! Would also love to know what you working on..? Canvas, tile, paper? Thanks so much

What kind of blow dryer are you using?
Hi, I use a mini heat gun purchased from Amazon, the link is in the video description 😃 the brand is Mlife. Thanks for watching 💕
In the “alcohol ink lines” demo, were you just using one color at a time or one color+one metallic at a time?
Hi Ashley, I drip the one color first, then drip the metallic on top and then flood with isopropyl alcohol before blending. Hope this helps! and thanks for watching!
Did you add silicone to the first one?
Hi! no, I'm just dropping isopropyl alcohol directly on the inks. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
