I love living in Canada and I will relocate over and over again. That being said, it doesn't mean I'm not allowed to miss my home country or have feelings. Resist the temptation to go on an attack or give unsolicited advice. If you're curious on why I'm still in Canada then watch this ua-cam.com/video/iipoZMSjVJI/v-deo.html

It is so funny how most of them can't keep up with Nigeria's grasp and good command of english...Keep shining my dear they get upset when we are so proud calling ourselves Nigerians...They expect us to blend in and fake it that we are Canadians just like some countries i won't mention keep deceiving themselves like they are Canadians. My dear there is nothing wrong with your accents...Italians, Russians, French, and all major european countries have accents too so calm down. Let me ask you a question "Do you even think Canadians speak better English than you?"...so don't feel bad at all...I feel our command of english is super superior to theirs, They too should move out and see if they can speak Yoruba too na or Igbo or Hausa.

Your experience is not peculiar to only Canada but to western countries. I had similar experience when I first moved to London. It's easy to connect now, because of social media, unlike back in the day. When I first moved to London (UK) in 2005, I was doing night shifts and going to school as well. On top of that, I was going to gym three times in a week. That's how I started making friends. I'm a sport person anyway. I was also going clubbing at least twice a month.
In regards to how you speak. I personally think you speak well but you just need to slow down the way you articulate your thoughts. *Some* of these folks act funny when they hear foreign accents from Africa, South America and Asia countries. Our former finance minister(Ngozi) speaks clearly with her Nigerian accent. This is Someone that attended Havard. She worked as a very top executive officer in world bank for years. She's currently the director general of world trade organisation. No African has ever occupied that position. I must admit, that woman is very competent. It's not really the accent but the pronunciation of some words. Communication is very important. If you want to go far in this life, you must be able to communicate effectively, especially in western world. Real talk!!

Having a Canadian accent made life easy for for me. I have the ability to pick up accent,so a few weeks in Canada they couldn't even tell I was from Africa. Many times I had to tell them I wasn't born here. But anyways it helped me blend in and made getting ahead easier, in interviews and making friends. Nevertheless no matter your accent ,like you said, just make it clear what's you saying and you would be fine. The key is for them to understand what you saying and you will be fine.

This loneliness talk affects a lot of immigrants, many of my Naija male friends here meet people from sports, clubbing, dating apps etc [i believe personality and gender play a role though]. Yes o. We must learn to speak up. If not , we will loose a lot of opportunities. People will ride on you or chance you if you don't talk or contribute meaningfully to ideas in a meeting. If you are a black person leading a small or big multi-national team, you must be assertive and pull your weight. There are good jobs opportunities I got in Australia speaking up. I even negotiated salaries that I want from prospective employers. I rejected salary offer, they come back with higher salary package. You must blow your trumpet. Whatever you know how to do, say it. You must be bold and confident in job interviews or at work dealing with foreign counterparts. Our white counterparts speak up. That is how they are raised. If you don't speak up, they will see it as a sign of weakness, lack of competence or lack of confidence.

Self promotions is crazy in the Western World. Taking pics with celebs etc makes no sense, but it's their thing. Many of their kids don't actually do much, but they can talk up a storm and have perfected the art of self promotion, that's why if not necessary, don't collaborate with them, cos they will do the least, spend all their time and energy on promotion and take all the glory and they know immigrants aren't raised to talk a mile a minute like them. In the US, you have to be especially careful of African Americans with that... Also, go to any big company in big money high level sales, marketing, media etc, you'll see how you have to search for minorities, but if it's technology or health care where real certified skills are needed, it's full of minorities. They want their kids to be the face, but immigrants to be doing the hard work behind the scenes. Generally speaking, many Western world kids look good, speak well, dress well etc, but can't do much where too much brain power is involved, and from young ages they aren't forced to stress over education, they are raised to seek happiness, and their countries know, that's why they give immigrants papers to come and do the grunt work their kids won't do in the numbers they need...

I have just been here over a month and sometimes it gets so frustrating that my housemates don’t understand what I say sometimes. I feel or think I speak clearly but right now maybe not clear enough cos their response sometimes is way off from the what I said. I get angry that I am patient enough to understand what they are saying but same is not applied to me.

You are right, networking is crucial here for job contacts and to kill loneliness at work. Your work becomes very boring and burdensome when you don't have friends and pals at work. Also, for every job you apply for, they will do reference checks. That is why one cannot afford not to build good working relationships at your workplaces. Reference check is very crucial especially when the job you are applying for is a professional job or managerial role. Prospective employers will like to speak to your previous bosses, supervisors etc.

Hello Azeez, I will recommend you use a good work reference from your former job in Nigeria (a top executive), since you are new and do not have a Canada work experience. In addition to that, add to your CV someone who knows you well in Canada to do a character reference for you. It might be a friend who has settled well in Canada but has good job. This is my opinion.

And if it's any consolation, a lot of us native-born Canadians have trouble with work-place culture, especially the self-promotion business - it just goes against how we were raised. Pls can you make a video on taxes...I really like Canada even though I live in UAE, I have plans coming to Canada but when I think about that tax thing ehh, I just lay back.
Here in UAE we really don't have much of that... there is nothing like Income tax or whatever here, I think the only tax I know we pay here is VAT...I really appreciate if you can elaborate on like the type of taxes pipo pay over there if you are a working individual

Tax is a tricky one, it varies per province. I did a video that touched on it a bit. Here ua-cam.com/video/Z18RXz0lG00/v-deo.html

    Hello 👋
As an international student, is it possible to defer my admission after getting to Canada and work for a year or six months with working permit before start studying back?

    • @BlessingBamiduro
      @BlessingBamiduro  3 роки тому

Ha, won’t you be applying for visa after you’ve accepted the admission from the school? Also there are some limitations I believe on how many hours you can work for as a student except it’s internship for your school program

Come on. Don't be ungrateful. I came to the USA from Africa when I was 18 and now I am a research scientist (Dr.). I was all alone through my journey. There are people who want to be in your place. If you were old enough to date, then you were old enough to learn the new culture.

The language barrier, Super important. Imagine being in a country where English isnt even spoken at all and you find hard to express and communicate with people in the least basic way, thats my major challenge living in south america, I just want to move to an english speaking country but definitely not an African country lol. Good content though, thumbs up!

In terms of your accent, you just need to just slow down your speech
    You will be fine.
I am from the Caribbean working in middle east so I get similar issues.

Any body comes from Afrika. Kanada 🇨🇦 , USA 🇺🇸, Europe 🇪🇺, Australia 🇦🇺 . They're too expensive and no no families.. and no respect.. don't worry you'll be okay.. its will take someone from Afrika to come to this countries it will take you 5-10years to get really stable.. everything its money and very hard to get that money...
Kongo 🇨🇩 for life and Afrika for life and Nigeria 🇳🇬 for life..here

I'm just gonna go ahead and say that even people born in Canada miss the days when you could borrow sauce from your neighbors. ;)
The "village community" spirit you reference used to also be widely spread here.
Sadly we got industiralization, automation and high-tech communication that came and destroyed everything...
