I've been in Canada for almost 2 years and I completely agree with all you've said. I was an introvert in Nigeria and it got worse when I got here. Really glad you came with your hubby cos it can be lonely really. I am an introvert too and going on to 4 years I can count the number of friends I have. And yeah...CSR experience as a first job can be so challenging. I hope you settle in more by and by
Adulting is killing me in USA. I am from Cameroon, Being Living all by myself from the second month I enter USA.no family or relatives around and I am not that good with people around me.Being here for 4 years. At this point I am just trying to get the US passport and go back home to establish myself then I can always visit anytime I want. This place is not for me. I love visiting but not settling for long team. It’s boring without family and the right people around you . When I tell people this place is not for me they look at me like 😳😳😳😳😳. Yeah it’s the truth.
Loneliness is killing people in Canada. Tax is another problem. Visiting 5 doctors in one hospital because of headache; all of them saying "you're fine. Also, staying in the freezer for 9 months in a year.
Self promotions is crazy in the Western World. Taking pics with celebs etc makes no sense, but it's their thing. Many of their kids don't actually do much, but they can talk up a storm and have perfected the art of self promotion, that's why if not necessary, don't collaborate with them, cos they will do the least, spend all their time and energy on promotion and take all the glory and they know immigrants aren't raised to talk a mile a minute like them. In the US, you have to be especially careful of African Americans with that... Also, go to any big company in big money high level sales, marketing, media etc, you'll see how you have to search for minorities, but if it's technology or health care where real certified skills are needed, it's full of minorities. They want their kids to be the face, but immigrants to be doing the hard work behind the scenes. Generally speaking, many Western world kids look good, speak well, dress well etc, but can't do much where too much brain power is involved, and from young ages they aren't forced to stress over education, they are raised to seek happiness, and their countries know, that's why they give immigrants papers to come and do the grunt work their kids won't do in the numbers they need...
Appreciating a new zone, when you've just left a known "comfort zone" is hard which happens in all spheres of life, be it a new job, relationship, geographical location and more - even when one is sure, God is involved in the move. But with time - you'll only be thankful.
People who came into Canada with their spouse & kids(maybe) really might not appreciate the blessing they have. When you are single, it's always you and your thoughts every night. Starring at a blank tv display for hours without seeing a damn movie, that's boredom. I'm not a talker, I'd keep to myself x4 before talking to someone but whenever you feel like talking, no one to talk to, even your people in Nigeria are deep in their sleep. Well there's a price for everything, these are the ones we gotta pay!
No way will I let someone else take credit for my work. One manager did it in an email with even more senior managers, I replied to all and said I DID IT. He sent a private email and said, aw oh he didn't really mean to take credit. No way in hell will I let anyone take credit for my work, they didn't walk my damn walk.

It might not be that your roomies lack patience but rather that they don't want to offend or discourage you by asking you to repeat yourself. Just a thought.
You are right, networking is crucial here for job contacts and to kill loneliness at work. Your work becomes very boring and burdensome when you don't have friends and pals at work. Also, for every job you apply for, they will do reference checks. That is why one cannot afford not to build good working relationships at your workplaces. Reference check is very crucial especially when the job you are applying for is a professional job or managerial role. Prospective employers will like to speak to your previous bosses, supervisors etc.
@@azeezayorinde878 Hello Azeez, I will recommend you use a good work reference from your former job in Nigeria (a top executive), since you are new and do not have a Canada work experience. In addition to that, add to your CV someone who knows you well in Canada to do a character reference for you. It might be a friend who has settled well in Canada but has good job. This is my opinion.
My sister, I dont just like you, I love you for being real but I can see that you understanding yourself and having this understanding of yourself is the sure way to success.God bless you on your journey.
That language is a big deal. Sometimes, people will just politely nod and smile rather than ask you to speak again. I recall speaking to a colleague in Eastern Europe once and throughout the duration of the call I kept wondering if that's how people struggle to hear me speak too

As a native-born Canadian, I'll tell you that when you slow down, I have no trouble following you - but when you get excited and speed up - man, it's a real struggle. You're probably aware of that; just a reminder. And if it's any consolation, a lot of us native-born Canadians have trouble with work-place culture, especially the self-promotion business - it just goes against how we were raised. But - that may be changing. But you would be surprised at how many people who even seem quite comfortable with all that secretly detest it.

You are being ridiculously over general. "They" meaning every person who is not from Nigeria. Come on man, really!!!
Appreciating a new zone, when you've just left a known "comfort zone" is hard which happens in all spheres of life, be it a new job, relationship, geographical location and more - even when one is sure, God is involved in the move. But with time - you'll only be thankful.
Sense of community! Thank you for the kind words ❤️
LMAO! Staring at blank TV got to me. I still did that this afternoon
No way will I let someone else take credit for my work. One manager did it in an email with even more senior managers, I replied to all and said I DID IT. He sent a private email and said, aw oh he didn't really mean to take credit. Maybe I'm nuts, I left Naija when I was 19 and faced a lot of things, studying, paying school fees with my mum, and surviving. No way in hell will I let anyone take credit for my work, they didn't walk my damn walk.

I totally forgot to even mention this which is 💯 true. Recommendations and reference check! You speak the truth !
Is the recommendations and references from the country where someone is coming from (say as a new immigrant who has not got any job offer in Canada) ?
@@azeezayorinde878
Hello Azeez, I will recommend you use a good work reference from your former job in Nigeria (a top executive), since you are new and do not have a Canada work experience. In addition to that, add to your CV someone who knows you well in Canada to do a character reference for you. It might be a friend who has settled well in Canada but has good job. This is my opinion.
