6:52 "I never deal in whole truths" Hard to tell if Manshoon was being deceptive or prideful (he didn't seem to know what the whole truth was, since he was following Azuth's orders).
My story isn't a great one, but I've always wanted to tell Ed this. In 81, when I was 16, we moved to Johnson City, TN, where a guy I knew at church introduced me to D&D. I didn't get to play because of the Panic until the mid 80's, but by then I was reading Dragon magazine, and seeing Ed's name in the letters columns frequently, then in articles he wrote, then all over the place with the Realms. But in those early days, his name came with his location, Johnson City, TN. And I always wondered at how close I had been to this brilliance in the making and never even knew it. Oh, the vicissitudes of fate. I like this new series btw. See you again.
I've been to Tennessee many times, and drove through Johnson City once, but I'm Canadian, and have never lived in the USA. Perhaps you're thinking of my stunt double.
@@edgreenwoodofficial You know, now I wish I still had all those old magazines because I frequently saw someone from JC, and I always thought it was you. Well, at least you cleared it up. Thanks!
VERY cool! I just ran a dungeon where the mindflayers in charge were ceromorphed from changelings and retained their ability to change shapes. I wish I had seen this video before I came up with that. Could have added some interesting lore.
Baldur's Gate 3 made me really curious about the DnD world. Hearing you speak about it is awsome, makes my playthroughs more rich when i understand the world better.
This gives me happy flashbacks to my dad telling me stories he invented. I blame his education in storytelling (often he would stop in the middle of the action and told me that it was my turn) for me being an avid RPG fan. And I did not expect but LOVED the appearance of Azuth!
I love this! Ed's in his natural story-telling mode. The way he writes and how he voices characters is so immersive. If only we could get a crackling fireplace in the background, that would be the cherry on top!
Did I like it?! I loved it! I've been a fan of yours since I was 10 years old, when I started playing AD&D and I've never stopped. Thank you and keep it up, great master!
I have a question about Mindflayer lore. I'm certain some sources say that they come from the future, yet most don't mention it at all. Is that a thing in the mainline Forgotten Realms?
There are conflicting back-stories for the Illithids. One of them does indeed say they have come from the end of the D&D Multiverse to alter the past. Another back-story is found in the Spelljammer product, The Astromundii Cluster. That has humans, at danger of extinction, calling out prayers to random gods and having their prayers answered by an illithiid god.
It's a tale, yes. Elminster tells me it's not true. It was rooted in old aunt/grandmother scare tactics: "Go on like that, and you'll grow tentacles!" leading to a bard tall-tale-telling that humans became illithids in the future, and now have come back to "reap the cattle" humans of today for their memories, thoughts (knowledge).
Now my curiosity is wanting to ask questions, and my mind is reeling with possible future scenarios this will play into. Especially in regards to pre-BG3 hidden lore
Awesome video! Love it! Super atmospheric! Gives you an insight into the kinds of shady dealings that could be going on behind closed doors in the realms.
Guess my tabaxi has little to worry about regarding his own illithid tentacle recipes. The local mind flayers tend to give him a wide berth, though. ;) As for Ilmater, I've always pronounced "Il-MAA-ter"; guess I stand corrected.
Very lovely story
I'm so happy to have discovered this channel
This is great!
Like in old tv shows, an advert in the middle. Love it

Best greenwood video yet!
The mind flayers wiping itself out would make the realms a much better place. I approve of this plot.
thank you so much for sharing this special video! please produce more!!!
Anyone else love the reference to “The Sadness of the Executioner” by Fritz Leiber?
Fritz was (briefly, ere he died) a friend, and I always admired him as a storyteller and a person.
I got chills. 😮
Yeah a new story from one of my favorite storytellers.
Captivating!
The only word that comes to my mind describing Ed's narration...!

It's not too late to add secrets. It's never too late!
The retcons only need be visible on your side of the screen, no?
You two are doing great collaboration! Thanks for bringing Mr. Greenwood to a space where we can hear and engage with him.

I could curl up with a tea, fire in the fireplace and listen to this for hours.
LOVE this! You’re an absolute legend, Ed.

Just open a new window with a crackling fireplace on YT. I have it everytime i go to sleep and sometimes rainstorm effects
That's a great idea! @@BirgerJarl-it5lz
I love this

That was an interesting video.
I LOVE this, thank you
this really helps get me in the mood, Ive been running a mindflayer villan for my campaign almost a year
this is how you get intelligent, psychic trolls. outregenerate the tadpole until its absorbed into a psionics gland like a male anglerfish
Ed Greenwood is Elminster
That was a delight. I love the atmosphere and am looking forwards to more of these in the future
A joy to listen to
Thanks!
Love your reading. I’ve been saying ‘ill mater’ not ‘ill May ter’ for years thanks for the correct pronunciation.
"Ill mater" is correct, too! Go right on saying it that way, the god will still hear.
Awesome video! Love it! Super atmospheric! Gives you an insight into the kinds of shady dealings that could be going on behind closed doors in the realms.
Master storyteller!
This was fun ! Thank you for sharing this with us Ed. Pls do more if you have the time :)
I love the way you speak😊 are there any audio books with Ed reading?🙏
For years I read stories I wrote for the libraries I worked at, and I have narrated a few Realms tales over the years.
Question for Lord Greenwood: are you a wizard or a bard? Perhaps multiclass?
Loving the content you guys are producing!

In the real world, bard magic is the strongest.
Yes, yes I am. Multiclassed, of course.
@@edgreenwoodofficial it adds up to me, i'm feeling the bardic inspiration!
Ah Velma, the original thicc girl, always a pleasure ^w^

Has Ed Greenwood written any adventures for 5e?
Oh, yes, but no big standalone ones, yet. Yet.
Everyone reports to someone
If DragonLance TV is EVER done....PLEASE be Fizban....or Zifnab.....or Paladine....whatever shape you wish, my lord.
Oh, dang, I've been pronouncing Ilmater like ill-MAA-ter.
Tasty tadpoles 10/10 but wouldn’t recommend it to normal people 😅
Help Ed out and SUBSCRIBE

What if a tadpole goes up the butt?
It takes longer to influence its host, and there may be time to use magic to flush it out the way it came as it's still traversing the colon.
@@edgreenwoodofficial I enjoy reading honest, practical answers to ridiculous questions.
