Bad66chevelles, the block is empty of the pistons, the ridge reamer is fitted to the cylinder with the spinning cutter, some more smaller adjustments on the cutter. Every few cuts, the ridge reamer expands to cutting the ream at the top of each cylinder. Just cuts ever so larger until the ridge is removed. The best way to do it is, use a hand manual drill and cut the ridge. Puts muscles in the arms and shoulders. But I was about 16 when my 1933 Ford p/u flathead v8 was pulled and reringed. But oh what satisfaction when it fired up and didn’t smoke much until the rings seated. Great ride! My dad taught me the finer points of flathead building. Loved it and him.
Your skills astound me. I like to think I'm a bit of a jack of all trades but if I'm a jack you're a king. I just watched your Studebaker interior videos and was amazed. I instantly got on eBay and Facebook marketplace looking for an old industrial or upholstery sewing machine.
hi jonathan, there ant nothing better than the sound of a big block with a cam.thats why they call me mikey bb,i just sold my elcamino.i lost my garage after 20 years.see ya later.
Wow you aren't kidding that doesn't have a stock cam in it. It's gonna be a great running strong engine for that triumph its gonna fly. Always fun watching you getting these engines running . Thanks for sharing.
Sounds like 2 old grain trucks I used to drive! Both had 427s in em. Don't know what the difference was in those, and the hot rod motors, but those 2 old Jimmy's would turn about 7500 rpms! The tach on the 68 redlined at 8000!!! Had an Over rev idiot light that would come on at 7750. Seems like they had lower compression, because they spun over real quick. Were fun to drive empty, but fully loaded they would literally run outta torque and would just ...stop! Loved those old beasts.
It’s good to see I’m not the only one who runs carb adaptors. A lot of people bad mouth them, but they do fine when one doesn’t have anything else. Thanks for posting.
I soooo look forward to you getn the little Herald drivable. 😎💯 Thanks for starting the build, and if anything I may have commented back then was offensive, I'm sorry 🙏 it was coming along soooo nice.. With much Respect, thanks for sharing 👍👍
For me ..this was a perfect engine ... short stroke and big bore .. great hrp and trq .. i remember long time ago , i was looking for a 396/402 . to built a 427 for my truck a C10 83 ... but the divorce come , and I did't have the mind to do things .. abandon my Bike for to many years and give cheap my truck and parts .. but now i want to build a engine ,it does not matter if its diesel(cummins or detroit 6v92) or my dream 427 chevy ... cheers
This was exactly the same back in my day 68-71 before i got drafted, i had no less than 6 engines in my 64 Corvette three Rats like this and on every 1st start it was always beauteous. Awesome 1st start. 3rd day in my binge watching and still going, Wow you are having fun and fixing stuff constantly. I could not imagine a triumph with that beast in it Yeow!
Not many sounds better than a big block Chevy, that’s for sure. Will be a great project. I agree about not stock. Sounds like at least 230* @.050 and that’s just a very wild guess based on what little I’ve seen. Can measure lift with a dial indicator, but if it runs good anyway, it doesn’t really matters
Good job on setting the timing...motor seems to have a pretty good little balance to it...l don't want to say nothing - you know more than me...l just hope you can keep the driver side steering tire on the ground - this motor here's packing some good twist...ain't there no Malibu's up there nowhere...you know l think l remember seeing a Nova in a junkyard when you went hunting a door hinge for that short bed Dodge...l guess we'll just have to wait & see how this frame/suspension/traction build goes...l know you got a lot going on up there & weather figuring into the mix & can't video everything, but l was wanting to see the machine work for the distributor - but l think l got it figured out...but l'm sure wanting to see how you narrow up that Dodge rear end...Good Video - keep em' comin' - l'm 'viewing' & 'liking'
Love those generation of big blocks I have one a 454 H.O. out of a Itasca Sunflyer RV its a beast pushing 490 hp all stock internals with the same quadrajet carb. I look at the quadrajet carb as if it was like my old M16 in the army keep er clean it will function perfect. The one I had was all gummed up I used chemtool and a rebuild kit and now its dialed in. Are those old school moroso valve covers on the 427?. If anyone has seen two lane blacktop this motor reminds me of that movie.
This is probably going to be one of the coolest builds to date. I love the concept of it being like a 16 year old with not much money. It’s like the original hot rodders they built with junk yard parts and what they made.
LOL,nice! I like the idea of fuel efficiancy but the sound of a gas guzzling race cam has it's own magic. I never did too much more than average DIY wrenching but back in the day I had some friends who did lots.
Hello my name is eric. I just wanted to say I really enjoy your channel I've learned a lot of different things from watching you. I have buying up some old vehicle's to from going to scrap yard and have got most of them to run. Just wanted to say thank you for some of the tips I've seen u do.
Jonathan I watch the last video with that old 69 Chevrolet with a 350 and I just watched that one and I've come to a conclusion shop Chevy engines they like that gas they're real fond of it keep this up you might want to think about a tanker just kidding do like the two videos you put hope to see more great work
I've always had mixed thoughts about agressive cams, on one hand I like the hard power on the other hand I like the smooth streetabilty of the stock cam, either way will be just fine, great video thanks for taking us along
Way to go!!!was super thrilling to hear it roar.was getting frustrated you needed more arms was ready to jump in the video and give a hand.but somehow you managed.love your vids.snookie from pa.
Do the right thing every time separate fuel tank and electronic pump. On old cold start ups. Would be a great start with two stock oil. Oly a suggestion mate.....
Jonathan buddy that thing sounds so mean. It's really snappy and looks like it's about to twist the frame just sitting there revving. I can't wait to see this thing do some burnouts. I haven't had much time to watch YT lately, so I don't know what look you're going for here, but please clean and paint the block and Scotch Brite the valve covers while it's out. It would transform that engine. You don't have to get new headers, wrap them in Deist exhaust wrap and it'll make them look so much better. I'm not trying to tell you how to build your own car, that's just what I would do in that situation. Great build, great channel buddy!
Just a heads up, if you go the electric fan route the honda rad fans are decently high flow and readily available in junk yards. Smaller too so it might help with space restraints in the triumph...
Boy that car I'll be as fast as the Cobra when you get done with it when them Shelby Cobras now this is going to be sweet that engine sounds healthy!!!
Sounds good Jonathan, good throttle response with instant rpm. That 350 turbo will do just fine in a car as light as the triumph. A decent converter and a shift kit should suffice.

Fantastic. I've heard this sound so many times in our F1 Stock Cars, and that is certainly one fit engine.
Wow you aren't kidding that doesn't have a stock cam in it. It's gonna be a great running strong engine for that triumph its gonna fly. Always fun watching you getting these engines running . Thanks for sharing.
You have no idea how much I enjoy watching your videos Jonathan. Especially watching the first start videos, I can't get enough of em! 👍

Simon from the UK here... sounds great. Can't wait for this build to happen.
It’s good to see I’m not the only one who runs carb adaptors. A lot of people bad mouth them, but they do fine when one doesn’t have anything else. Thanks for posting.
That sounds like a very healthy cam, That engine just may light this project on fire.
I soooo look forward to you getn the little Herald drivable. 😎💯 Thanks for starting the build, and if anything I may have commented back then was offensive, I'm sorry 🙏 it was coming along soooo nice.. With much Respect, thanks for sharing 👍👍
That is one hell of a motor...the kind of motor you want to cruise all night long going across Nebraska and Wyoming and points west...
For me ..this was a perfect engine ... short stroke and big bore .. great hrp and trq ..

Congratulations on the cold start! That is gonna be a beast of an engine for that little Triumph!
Thumbs up Jonathan! She sounds great!!
I'm smiling to myself here, thinking of that sound, coming from under the hood of a '59 Triumph Herald Coupe, man this will knock their socks off!
This was exactly the same back in my day 68-71 before i got drafted, i had no less than 6 engines in my 64 Corvette three Rats like this and on every 1st start it was always beauteous. It's always cool when you get the first start on a new project.
That engine sounds strong and healthy. Will make great project. Looking forward to it.
Great! I love seeing that old engine wake back up!
That engine sounds like a monster, would be nice in my chevelle. Great video, good work.
So far - so good. Following this with a big smile. Chuck in Kansas
my compliments to the chef. a 427bb in a triumph is no easy feat.
This is gonna be a fun build brother. Thanks for all you do!!

Damn that sounds healthy ! Cant wait to see this one come along !!
That engine is mighty powerful! It's gonna be a crazy little machine!
Sounds badass. That engine in the Triumph...The Internet approves!
Always fun hanging out with you!
Wow! You made it look easy. Not many people have your skills. Outstanding work my friend.

God I cant wait to see this thing running in that race chassis.
Sounds like a beast.
i just started watching your video's ..love the old school knoweledge
LOL,nice! I like the idea of fuel efficiancy but the sound of a gas guzzling race cam has it's own magic. I never did too much more than average DIY wrenching but back in the day I had some friends who did lots.
Glad it seems to be sound.
You never disappoint and truly enjoy your channel.
That 427 is gonna be a beast! Sounds great!
Sounds radical what a find
That comment about the bowl helped clear things up. Not knowing much about these engines/carbs I thought you were pouring the fuel straight in :D
Thank you for the great video. I feel like I'm there here let me give you a hand with the gas bottle. Thanks again.
Sounds good so far!!.
Good idea to get it to warm up and check it out good.
Good luck bud.

Love it. It's your stuff, your place so do what you want.
Cant wait for the build Johnboy.
Sounds great. I have been looking for one for se several years, might as well be looking for a needle in a hay stack..
that is one heck of a good motor if it has 5 lbs of oil pressure sitting still! when it fired it sounded pretty smooth. very snappy on the throttle.
love to put that in my 1983 scottsdale with twin cowboy exhaust
nice! looking forward to the future videos! there's no substitute for cubic inches!

I've always had mixed thoughts about agressive cams, on one hand I like the hard power on the other hand I like the smooth streetabilty of the stock cam, either way will be just fine, great video thanks for taking us along
Ole big Bock sounds pretty good
Sounds capable of putting the fear of the Lord into a few of today's shiny street cars.
I love this project looking forward to seeing it come together.
Make sure you check your messages on UA-cam, I sent you one.
@@jonathanw4942 did it read, project never finished?

Man that engine sounds pretty !!
Reminds me of little shop of horrors feed me Seymour, feed me! That thing does run like a champ though.
Man that thing sounds good! I shoulda known you'd have it running in no time flat.
That sounds so cooolllll !!!!! It's gonna be a real beast ! Can't wait to see more. You've got great skills man. Kudos to you !! 😁
Sounds good Jonathan, good throttle response with instant rpm. That 350 turbo will do just fine in a car as light as the triumph. A decent converter and a shift kit should suffice.
You are going to show the snobs that a good mechanic with common sense and a supply of good OEM wrecking yard parts can go very surprisingly fast!
Sounds like one mean and healthy big block !!!
Damn, you have so many projects, I'm not sure how you keep track of them ! I am retired with lots of free time and I don't think I could do it.
Sounds incredible, nice motor.
Yeah, you got plenty of pressure.Seems like there's some air in the line but better watch getting your starter so hot!
Do it yourself AC Cobra, American motor and British chassis.
Performance AND handling.
Sounds Wonderful!
Nothing like the snarl of a big block. Can't wait to see that Herald in the burnout box....
Thats a bad ass motor. A real keeper
LOL, ALL THE ADAPTERS. GOOD STUFF BROTHER
That Herald's going to sound like a Spitfire with that engine in it - not the Triumph Spitfire - the Spitfire plane :)
