You fix is still available.We fixed our flat screen, took a card out and mailed it to a guy in New Mexico and fixed it pretty cheap. We also fixed our Lazy Boy recliner, which had a couple of broken parts for less than $100. But some things are just so cheap at Walmart that you end up throwing away. I have a garage full of shit..

Hi mustie, I`m now nearly 71 and had great life messing with things that go bang if you put petrol (gas) or diesel in it and a few sparks. For this car to be as old as it is & to have been sitting for so long gotta admit it sounded pretty good......nice to see people getting these old cars running again instead of sending them to the crusher......especially cars that are in as good of shape as this one is...love to see someone get this old car back on the road again....

yes before the 80,s and inbuilt obsolescence and throwaway parts and cars ! These old cars stand as testimony to engineering beauty and resilience ! We need to get back to this and away from these damed dangerous electical cars that catch fire while you are driving down the road with the family and dog in the back ! With doors auto locking and not allowing you to get out as said fire develops to a point that no fire truck can put out as lithium fires indeed do not go out with standardised fire fighting techniques which are functional on petrol based cars !
I appreciate you being so helpful while working on this old girl. Being 15 and not the best when it comes to anything more complicated then pulling off and replacing. Appreciate it because I like older vehicles and instead of buying a 2007 civic I chose to get a 70 Ford F-250 project. Cheers

One of the best straight-forword explainations of points I've heard Jon, I'd love it if you shared more of your little tricks and tips like you did here like shorting the points to see if there's spark that's helpful. Yeah people worry so much about lack of coolant, those giant cast iron blocks take a lot to get hot. My 55' Ford Fairlane takes about 20 minutes to get to operation temperature on a cool day, while driving down the road even.
I drive a 77 GMC. I bought it for scrap . Built one carb from three, fixed the timing and drove it home that morning. Drove her to work Monday morning . After ten years in the woods sitting, she was like breaking a wild horse. 😂😂 Best purchase I ever made!! Six years ago and runs like new. $450. You are a master at this !! A convicts dream would be to take care of a wreck like this, but we who are free are just to fat and happy. It's amazing how beautiful a car like this can look in the hands of a man with vision and determination.Not me though. I also have a couple of wrecks that I just can't part with.

I am a Chevy guy but when I was a lot younger I remember one of my brothers was pretty much a Ford man and I remember him owning quite a few of those Fords I really loved that make and model but I was way too young back then. I am sixty one now and I would love to own one of those old Fords.Such a cool car.For some reason I was always into the 64 model year for some reason. I have only one brother left out of the seven of us and he was never really a car guy like my other five brothers. I really miss them and the times we would work on those late fifties and mid sixty model of cars.They cars were just so simple to work on back in those days.Thank you for letting me in joy the video. Im 65 yrs old and still buy junk cars and trucks now there barn finds and rescues, nothing diferent except a 59 ford could be bought for 50 dollars back then now they are worth quite abit more. My first car was a 59 convertible. White with black top and blue interior. That was in 1965. It was already close to the end of its life. 6 short years. After 4 months of agony I traded it for a top of the line 61 Pontiac Bonneville 2 dr hard top. I still have the hood badge from that old Ford. Yesterday I had to change a flat tire and used a lug wrench I bought new for $1.50 in 1964. I have carried it in every car since then. I will always have fond memories of that 59 ragtop.
Brought some great memories back, I'm 70 now but back in the day that was one fine auto!! I drove mine every where and yes the points went out right in front of the 302 operators union hall so in desperation I used my needle nose and bent the points arm and adjusted the points where the arm would make just contact..... it fired right back up and run great so I got new points/condenser to put in but it was raining out and no garage so I just kept driving it and kinda forgot about it but going to work one cold morning that fix of mine quit. LOL that arm was almost gone as it was burning it up every time it made contact. That my friend is a true story Years after I parked it, I got married and had a 63 1/2 galaxy and she wrecked it body wise so I took the body off the 59 and put it on the 63 frame and it was not a bad fit as the body mount moved easy enough but the brake lines were a lot of fun. I used the newer interior, buckets, console, 4 speed, steering column...ect and got her back on the road for another ten years. Oh I also got a divorce over her shit driving and running around on me. No worries as it was for the best. The next marriage lasted 37 years... I lost that one to cancer :( but life goes on as I never married again. Still miss the last one.

My favorite was the 1960 Lincoln and the 1957 Mercury Turnpike Crusier. That's a very nice Ford and would look great with a pair of 1957 Mercury fender skirts on it.
God i would love to hang out with you. When I was a little kid my older brother was was A 352 king. I learned about points, timing etc. Best time of my life you are just like him. Now I'm 65. And building a 47 Chevy truck

G'Day, in the late sixties, my father was a truck driver and drove a (petrol) gasoline truck. A neighbour was always stealing petrol (gas) from it. My father got a new diesel truck, the neighbour only stole fuel once more. Syphone hoses were credit cards everywhere, even before credit cards existed.
In the mid 70's my boss's father in law, who lived next door to his body shop, came in every day & told everyone how great his gas mileage was in his new VW, after listening to this for about two weeks, everyone couldn't take it anymore, so Bud would sneak into his garage every night & add more gas to the vw, pretty soon the car didn't use any gas at all, the gauge never went down. Bud kept this up for two weeks, you should of heard his father in law's stories then................course no one believed him & when it started using gas again, the stories quit..............it was a riot.......

We have a restored 56 thunderbird, 69 Mach 1, 51 ford choptop, 64 Galaxie convertible, 56 victoria, 48 coupe we are making a street rod with, and 65 mustang fastback. This 57 is beautiful as is and I would love to add it to our stash! 😆
1959 ford won best car of the year for ford custom. My dad bought one for my mom. White ford 4 door custom with blue interior. 6 cylinder standard with three on the tree (3 gears on the steering column). My twin brother and I learned how to drive at 13 years old driving it up and down the lane way that ran behind our street that our garage was on in high park area of Toronto. wow....this brings back memories..... Thanx for posting....you da man. Dad sold it to me when I was old enough to get a license. Loved that car. Tranny went out of it in 67. Body was still in good shape but had bought a 56 T- bird that I was fixen’ up....was too cool .....so I scrapped it, the ford custom, and let her go.

I had a 71 fairlane in the 80s, broke the throttle cable. Tied my shoelaces up to carby through the firewall and pulled the car home by hand throttle. Good times

I've been working on a 59 Fairlane 500 two door hardtop. It has good paint and upholstery. When I bought it, the carburetor floats were sticky, and gas was coming out of the bowl vents. It originally had a 332 engine, but somewhere along the way, it was replaced with a 352. I had to take the heads off to remove the exhaust manifold bolts, and decided to take the heads to a machine shop to have a valve job done also. I need to remove and reinstall the distributer in the correct position, and it should run. I have put a 4 barrel carburetor and manifold on. At 83 pounds, that manifold gives you a good workout when it is removed or installed. A good new parts source for Fords is C&G Ford in Escondido, CA, and used parts for classic cars can be found at Hidden Valley Auto Parts in Maricopa, AZ along with Valley Auto Parts in Phoenix AZ. I see that the video is 3 years old, but maybe the information could be helpful on other projects.
Sounds good. Some marvel mystery oil will probably cleanup and quieten those lifters. A little work to make it a driving car would get you more money and make it easier to sell
Jonathan this is a beautiful 500 just as is! I wouldn't restore anything on it.....just do what needs to be done to make it road reliable and safe. I would love to see you keep it because it would make a great video series for your channel and you actually appreciate cars like this as we do. I would rather see you keep it but I am a classic ford collector here in cincinnati and if you made up your mind to sell it do you have a price in mind? That dent in the rear, it's amazing how it didn't rust over the years! Now a days if you scrape the chrome off just a little bit on a bumper hitting something, the bumper starts to rust like crazy. This car looks amazing and great first start video!
Tranny fluid or Marvel Mystery Oil or ... I have used LUCAS OIL TREATMENT ... A LOT ! I SWEAR by that stuff. Have saved a few valve train rebuilds with it ! Believe it or not. I have a Chevy S-10 that had noisy lifters when I bought it 6 years ago. I add the Lucas right in the GAS and the Oil. Within a 50 mile run the lifters were as quiet as NEW ! I've put at least 30,000 on it and no more lifter noise ! I add 2 ounces every oil change. GREAT STUFF ! And I'm NOT much for the "mechanic in a can" stuff either, but I make sure I always have some LUCAS on hand ... always !

Oh yeah,,, Nothing like the Taste of Gas,, and the smell of burnt Hair... lol Been there,, done that...More times than I can remember..... And you ain't kidding when you said, "Everything today is Throw Away"... Went to the parts store just here recently looking for Wiper blade refills.... NOPE, You got to buy the complete Wiper..Don't carry just the rubber anymore..REALLY ??? Ain't nothing wrong with my old wiper or arm,, just needed new rubber....Talk about wasteful spending.... Now these....Love these old simple setups under the hood...No EFI, No Electronic Ignition, No Stupid sensors and wires everywhere, No Multiple Coils, or MILES of Vacuum Hoses all over....Just keep a spare, set of points, Spark Plug and an Extra Wire, a spare Fanbelt, a roll of Black Tape, maybe an extra Quart of Oil and a handfull of tools... Heck,, you can pretty much get her back home.... It's getting to the point, where you can't even work on vehicles today, without having to use Special tools and/or equipment... Just imagine what it's going to be like working on vehicles 60 years into the future... Well,, You and I won't be around then to see it, 'Cause we're both Old...lol Gasoline fueled Autos might be a by-gone thing of the past by then....
sea foam will clean it out and most likely free up the lifters. but i would wait until after you get it running good. and i was about to say your gap was to big.

I'm thinkin' here that cleaned up nice and all tuned up with new brakes and tires you might just have something worth while. Since the body's so sound and it's so complete that might compensate for being the ugliest Ford ever built. All that being said if you were to do it up right back to pink and everything your wife would be the envy of every young Lady at the grocery store. That trunk is big enough to carry groceries for a whole passel of hungry young men. It looks like a hit from here. 2 thumbs up !

Not only did you get it to run but it tried to move with flat tires. With all of the chrome and stainless being intact on this car that's what really makes it look nice. Dad kept some old transil oil around just to make sure he cleaned the sludge out of an engine. You do great on all of your first start videos always like to see an old engine brought back to life.
So glad to see her running! And she wants to drive!! What a car!! I would Just see if I could unplug the clock for now for that noise possibly a seized up brake or so but you'll get her going! Can't wait to see what the future holds for videos on the old gal

I drove mine every where and yes the points went out right in front of the 302 operators union hall so in desperation I used my needle nose and bent the points arm and adjusted the points where the arm would make just contact..... it fired right back up and run great so I got new points/condenser to put in but it was raining out and no garage so I just kept driving it and kinda forgot about it but going to work one cold morning that fix of mine quit. LOL that arm was almost gone as it was burning it up every time it made contact. That my friend is a true story Years after I parked it, I got married and had a 63 1/2 galaxy and she wrecked it body wise so I took the body off the 59 and put it on the 63 frame and it was not a bad fit as the body mount moved easy enough but the brake lines were a lot of fun. I used the newer interior, buckets, console, 4 speed, steering column...ect and got her back on the road for another ten years. Oh I also got a divorce over her shit driving and running around on me. No worries as it was for the best. The next marriage lasted 37 years... I lost that one to cancer :( but life goes on as I never married again. Still miss the last one.

What a gem! Starts like it ran yesterday. Accelerator pump is not sealing, but fuel is flowing through the carburetor. Trans is even trying.
My favorite was the 1960 Lincoln and the 1957 Mercury Turnpike Crusier.
That's a very nice Ford and would look great with a pair of 1957 Mercury fender skirts on it.

God i would love to hang out with you. When I was a little kid my older brother was was A 352 king. I learned about points, timing etc. Best time of my life you are just like him. Now I'm 65. And building a 47 Chevy truck

I had a '59 Galaxy 500 back in the middle '60's that was white over tangerine with a 352 under the hood. Wish I still had it. Great car!

G'Day, in the late sixties, my father was a truck driver and drove a (petrol) gasoline truck. A neighbour was always stealing petrol (gas) from it. My father got a new diesel truck, the neighbour only stole fuel once more. Syphone hoses were credit cards everywhere, even before credit cards existed.
HELL YES, We didn't have Credit Cards back in the 30's...........
In the mid 70's my boss's father in law, who lived next door to his body shop, came in every day & told everyone how great his gas mileage was in his new VW, after listening to this for about two weeks, everyone couldn't take it anymore, so Bud would sneak into his garage every night & add more gas to the vw, pretty soon the car didn't use any gas at all, the gauge never went down. Bud kept this up for two weeks, you should of heard his father in law's stories then................course no one believed him & when it started using gas again, the stories quit..............it was a riot.......

1959 ford won best car of the year for ford custom. My dad bought one for my mom. White ford 4 door custom with blue interior. 6 cylinder standard with three on the tree (3 gears on the steering column).
My twin brother and I learned how to drive at 13 years old driving it up and down the lane way that ran behind our street that our garage was on in high park area of Toronto.

I had a 71 fairlane in the 80s, broke the throttle cable. Tied my shoelaces up to carby through the firewall and pulled the car home by hand throttle. Good times

Well I watched this video till about 19 mins in give or take then I went outside and changed the spark plugs in my truck. Come back inside and finished the video. Here in my city in Argentina there are a galaxy in the same condition. Its a bestial car.
I've been working on a 59 Fairlane 500 two door hardtop. It has good paint and upholstery. When I bought it, the carburetor floats were sticky, and gas was coming out of the bowl vents. It originally had a 332 engine, but somewhere along the way, it was replaced with a 352. I had to take the heads off to remove the exhaust manifold bolts, and decided to take the heads to a machine shop to have a valve job done also. I need to remove and reinstall the distributer in the correct position, and it should run. I have put a 4 barrel carburetor and manifold on. At 83 pounds, that manifold gives you a good workout when it is removed or installed. A good new parts source for Fords is C&G Ford in Escondido, CA, and used parts for classic cars can be found at Hidden Valley Auto Parts in Maricopa, AZ along with Valley Auto Parts in Phoenix AZ. I see that the video is 3 years old, but maybe the information could be helpful on other projects.

Sounds good. Some marvel mystery oil will probably cleanup and quieten those lifters. A little work to make it a driving car would get you more money and make it easier to sell
Jonathan this is a beautiful 500 just as is! I wouldn't restore anything on it.....just do what needs to be done to make it road reliable and safe. I would love to see you keep it because it would make a great video series for your channel and you actually appreciate cars like this as we do.

That dent in the rear, it's amazing how it didn't rust over the years! Now a days if you scrape the chrome off just a little bit on a bumper hitting something, the bumper starts to rust like crazy. This car looks amazing and great first start video!

maybe a qt. of transmission fluid in the oil might clear up the lifters. I imagine the accelerator pump might be dried up.
I would heat cycle the engine a couple of times readjust the valves, if that didn't work jerk the intake lifters are pretty cheap.
Tranny fluid or Marvel Mystery Oil or ... I have used LUCAS OIL TREATMENT ... A LOT ! I SWEAR by that stuff. Have saved a few valve train rebuilds with it ! Believe it or not. I have a Chevy S-10 that had noisy lifters when I bought it 6 years ago. I add the Lucas right in the GAS and the Oil. Within a 50 mile run the lifters were as quiet as NEW ! I've put at least 30,000 on it and no more lifter noise ! I add 2 ounces every oil change. GREAT STUFF ! And I'm NOT much for the "mechanic in a can" stuff either, but I make sure I always have some LUCAS on hand ... always !

Ain't nothing wrong with my old wiper or arm,, just needed new rubber....Talk about wasteful spending....
Now these....Love these old simple setups under the hood...No EFI, No Electronic Ignition, No Stupid sensors and wires everywhere, No Multiple Coils, or MILES of Vacuum Hoses all over....Just keep a spare, set of points, Spark Plug and an Extra Wire, a spare Fanbelt, a roll of Black Tape, maybe an extra Quart of Oil and a handfull of tools... Heck,, you can pretty much get her back home....
It's getting to the point, where you can't even work on vehicles today, without having to use Special tools and/or equipment... Just imagine what it's going to be like working on vehicles 60 years into the future... Well,, You and I won't be around then to see it, 'Cause we're both Old...lol
Gasoline fueled Autos might be a by-gone thing of the past by then....

sea foam will clean it out and most likely free up the lifters. but i would wait until after you get it running good. and i was about to say your gap was to big.

I think you've got an electric fuel pump in the glove box.
Sounds more like a dirt dauber nest on the heater fan squirrel cage. Some Fords kept the fan running on low & could not be turned off.
make it drive able J.W. I KNOW you have to many projects .but you can do it justice .have a not a rat rod build.i would to put some cash into it.and im sure there lots of good people that will fund the build wright people.just a few bucks from us yuoutubers can make it happen (WITH YOUR HELP AND GUIDANCE J.W)PLEASE

I'm thinkin' here that cleaned up nice and all tuned up with new brakes and tires you might just have something worth while. Since the body's so sound and it's so complete that might compensate for being the ugliest Ford ever built. All that being said if you were to do it up right back to pink and everything your wife would be the envy of every young Lady at the grocery store. That trunk is big enough to carry groceries for a whole passel of hungry young men. It looks like a hit from here. 2 thumbs up !

Not only did you get it to run but it tried to move with flat tires. With all of the chrome and stainless being intact on this car that's what really makes it look nice. Dad kept some old transil oil around just to make sure he cleaned the sludge out of an engine. You do great on all of your first start videos always like to see an old engine brought back to life.
Your videos are restful and addicting, i dont care how long you crank on a engine, I watch and enjoy.
