It's weird how men think women get confused about operating semi autos. They can operate every appliance in the house, drive cars trucks and motorcycles. A semi auto pistol is simple compared to a cake blender.

+Morgen Holz may have to so with handling a deadly weapon, if it jams or fails to feed they may not know exactly what to do with it. takes a bit of learning. not much but still, handguns can be scary

    • @morgenholz
      @morgenholz 8 років тому +16

It's the same with both men and women. They both require training. I am a NRA certified pistol instructor. Women are good learners. One of my students is a 75 year old lady. She has become very capable with a Glock 19 semi automatic 9 mm pistol, 20 gauge Mossberg 500 pump action shotgun and a Ruger LCR .38 Special revolver. She had never shot a gun prior to her lessons with me.

+ghostfifth SCARY - nonsense!! I teach women all the time including force on force where they have to draw quickly and point and shoot as well as aim shoot and they do just fine. Its all in the attitude of the instructor!

+Morgen Holz I find it a little unbelievable that a 75 year old woman could pull the trigger of a Ruger LCR 38. At 11-12 lbs it is a chore for a young man to pull.

+areyouready22 - exactly!! I recommend .22's for women. They can put ten rounds into a target easily and quickly.

It’s a great video if you’re looking for a cute hand gun for an accessory. But there isn’t any talk about capacity. It doesn’t matter how cute your pink pistol is when your fixin’ to get ganged banged and you cute little revolver only holds six rounds.

Right you are. My daughter borrowed different friend's guns each range outing to try all options. A range lady (also retired cop) clerk carrys a .22 ruger revolver and talked her into trying it. She loved it and bought one. This of course starts a huge discussion with her rambo pals that don't consider eight .22 bullets flying at 1200fps a deterrment. Maybe so, but, 2 of her range lady pals have bought one after trying hers.

+Lynn Pal - Of the guns mentioned, the GLOCK and the SIG are viable alternatives to choose from. You can also get a .22 revolver and put all ten rounds on target and that will STOP some scumbag from attacking. DO NOT get a revolver if you can avoid it. Go for a semi-auto and then practice. DO NOT get an external hammer on a gun - it makes you have to rely on the safety if you want to carry locked and loaded. I carry a S and W 9mm compact, and an S and W .22 - both are good guns for self defense.

Did you get the Glock? Now put skate board tape on the top of the slide and any areas where YOUR fingers touch - as that helps you keep control of the gun if your hands are sweaty! Also use your slide stop or slide release to release the slide - don't reach over the top of the gun and pull it back to release the slide as again, if your hands are sweaty they could slide off.

My EDC is Smith & Wesson SD40VE and I highly recomend to any gal, if they can shoot a 9mm they'll have no problem with the 40. I dont recommend upgrading the trigger, there's no safety and with the 8 pound trigger there are no accidents, you are consiously firing that gun. Also can't beat the price!

Agree with the other posts...let her decide. Nothing better than letting a professional work with them and a lot of rental options. I did teach my wife how to shoot with lots of .22LR full frame to .38 Special and 9mm full frame. Once I was comfortable with her ability to safely operate a gun and not overwhelmed by caliber hired a professional to take it from there. She took the CCW class and fell in love with a Ruger SR22. Not my choice to make but I get to keep my Model 640 :)

Good review and good points -- except for the suggestion of upgrading the snub nose to .357 (after mentioning the challenge of recoil in a revolver vs semi auto). I do have the LCR in .357 and can shoot it accurately but it's quite a bit "more" than the 38p.
Another good semi auto is the Walther PPS (now less than $400 if you shop around).

Great video. However on your statement of Nothing Can Go Wrong With A Revolver.... As long as the bullets are seated properly. I have had my 38 Special jam because a bullet was not fully seated. On the other side, I really like the Sig P238. Nearly bought one, but bought a Colt Mustang Mark IV - 30 years old, mint condition and with original box and papers. Great investment, I think. Won't use it as my carry for that reason. Currently use a Diamondback DB380, but still looking for a good price on a P380.

I've narrowed the selection, with input from the Ms. to three. Two of which are similar to your choices, but different brands. We prefer the 9mm Shield, it's a little heavier and helps to minimize recoil. Bersa Thunder 380, it's a steel gun, heavier, less recoil and easy to shoot. The last is a steel 38 revolver. I have a Charter Arms sub nose with larger rubber grips, a Smith steel body 357 shooting 38 has the same effect. Heavier gun, less recoil, more comfortable to shoot. She will purse carry, so concealment isn't as difficult as body carry.

My first CC was a S&W 38 3" revolver - Now I'm using a Glock 42. A sig - is like butter.... but it is a bit more to field strip. Please guys, don't make it sound so complicated - we can figure it out. But that is another reason a Glock is a great choice. At personal protection distance I watched someone compare the 42 and the 43 - less than a bullet lengths difference firing into a gel block. So either will serve well - go for what you feel more in control of. PP ammo in either and your good. (9mm ammo is cheaper and easier to find on the other hand) Another just my opinion - don't give me pretty pink or purple, hopefully I never have to pull my weapon but I don't want it to look like a toy.

380/9 period imho, (best follow up shots due to lower recoil) sub - fullsize depending on carry position and style. Ideal fullsize, even quicker follow up shots. granite many women will find it too difficult to conceal with there style clothing.
Looking into weapons for my wife right now, shes watching too, and i tend to lean towards these "worthy" cartridges simply because of low recoil, and easy follow up shots... you do not see people rapid firing a snub nose .500 S&W for a reason. too hard to look cool when your hands pointed in the sky at the end.
Keep in mind, the bigger the bang, the more off target your getting...

Trigger guards are made for all of the guns made if women prefer to off body carry in a purse. They can be tethered to something on the inside of the purse so that when the gun is pulled out and the purse is dropped the trigger can then be exposed and ready to be shot. Mic Holster is a very common manufacturer but many custom kydex holster manufacturers sell them.

GENTLEMEN - I AM NOT A GUN SNOB but you are using the wrong term for the ammo in your guns. You should be saying Cartridges or rounds - NOT bullets. the bullet is the "end" of the round that flies down the bore and out the muzzle. And I would suggest you look at a Smith and Wesson Compact - just as good as what you show here.

Instead of the Sig P238, you should have recommended the P938. It is a 9mm, isn’t much bigger than the P238 and is smaller than the G26 and Springfield XDS. It is my EDC, came with factory night sights, short-reset trigger AND a Viridian R5 auto on/off laser sight. We sewed a magnet into my bellyband holster, so I can leave my Viridian always on and it comes on automatically when i draw it and goes off when i reholster it. II am a small woman and have no trouble concealing this handgun under ANYTHING, even sweats and t-shirts. I absolutely LOVE my Sig P938!

I tend to agree with you on the safety issue. I have bought my first handgun and got a very good deal on a 9mm Sig. My husband has had 3 strokes so his right side which was his dominate side is much weaker than his left. I want him to have protection as well and I was thinking of a 22 revolver until he can shoot it enough and perhaps build strength toward something a little larger as long as he is comfortable. I also just like the idea of having a simple but dependable gun like a 22 revolver around as well as a 12 gage pump action which with enough practice he could easily rack. My BIL and Sister believe in one in the pipe and a full mag but I will tell you I feel a little uncomfortable with that and no I refuse to carry one on my body like that without a safety feature. I am realizing there is so much more I need to learn and by watching as many videos and reading as much as I can get my hands on in addition to getting as many hours as possible at the range just becoming more familiar with my gun. There has been so many different remarks made about women/guns I just have to laugh it off and stick to what I am out to do, be knowledgeable enough about keeping my family safe and secure in any situation.

For all ammo, particularly for revolvers that can take different cartridges, put in the gun for protection what you practice with. .38 special target load is a massively different experience than shooting a .357 magnum self defense round. While you are under stress is the worst time to be surprised by your pistol.

Really it's best to have a gun a home security system and a dog.
I also grew up without a gun in the house, and I was fine.
But plenty of other people, were not.
As for the gun I'm more concerned while away from the house, which was what my original comment was more aimed towards.
And I'm not a child anymore, and fighting is part of who I am and a weapon will always be near myself.
So you can have a false sense of security if that makes you feel warm and fuzzy, but I have seen two tours of war and I have seen what people can do. And I'd rather have that ace up my sleeve.
I will do my best against everything else

She has her concealed carry license, she has a little ruger .380 but let’s all be honest here it’s a peace of shit and anyone who isn’t a super experienced handgun shooter isn’t going to be able to shoot it effectively combined with how small, how shitty, and how much recoil it has.I’m looking to buy her a new pistol I was thinking somewhere in the Glock range? She has shot my 1911 and my other .45 and handled it fine but she doesn’t need something that big, and nothing to small as the .380 either. Something effective. Any suggestions?

Your dealing with recoil issues with all of those little grip guns, let’s be honest. M&P .380 Shield 2.0 EZ low recoil, easy to rack, easy to load, lightweight. You guys really missed the boat with not mentioning this or the EZ 9mm. But I understand you just love to talk about glocks, and sigs.

For women, children, and even some men, the best thing to do first is to buy any 22lr handgun and 22lr rifle to get some easier and affordable introduction practice. Then graduate to more stopping power. The fact that 22lr ammo is now in shortage and overpriced really upsets me because it's messing with beginner shooters and I fear our next generation of Americans will piss away our most important right and duty to protect our family.

Why would you put the G26 on the list and not the G42/G3? The XDs and the G43 are almost identical in size so a girls tiny hands would fit around that single stack frame of the G43 a lot better than the double stack framed G26.

+Justin Todd - wear a purse cross body and that problem is stopped. BUT....most gun purses are awful and I suggest ladies try different things including sewing a soft holster into a purse where the gun is carried with grip upward - easy to grab. And have a separate compartment for the holster and gun.

+Helen Sabin Purse Carry is MORONIC... How fast can she get to it? C'mon, I'm not trying to be a dick, but the weapon needs to always be touching your body...
Have her look into the "Flashbang." It's a holster that clips onto the bra. I talked a friend into carrying like that, and she loves it because it never prints, and she can grab it in a second! Don't buy into that shit when people call it dangerous. It's not dangerous; the person carrying it is dangerous. A lady tried drawing from her Flashbang, but the dumb slut had her finger ON the trigger! She shot herself dead... OPERATOR MALFUNCTION!!!!! That's not the holsters fault, though :-)
PLEASE, don't let her carry in a purse... Let's imagine she gets jumped, or she's wrestling around with someone. She's NEVER going to draw faster than if it was attached to her body somewher..
FLASHBANG!!!!! I would NEVER let my wife carry in a purse... Look into more articles about: PURSE CARRY, and I will SHIT MY PANTS ON CAMERA if you can find one article from a reputable trainer that supports it... BAD IDEA!!!!!!!!!!

At 5:04 the cousin says "which is a down grade from the 9 mm" 38 is the same diameter/caliber as the 9 mm which is the same diameter/caliber as the 380 The difference is the case, bullet weight and powder charge. With today's modern 380 bullets the 380 FTX bullet rivals the 9 mm ball bullet plus, the 380 has a much less chance of pass through and collateral damage down range.

+Jake Conner - if you put 10 rounds of .22 into a body it will do major damage. Look at the ONE bullet from a .22 that almost killed Ronald Reagan! Look at Sirhan Sirhan killing Bobby Kennedy with ONE.22 - For most women who have strength issues, a .22 is a viable alternative. They can pull the trigger and stay ON TARGET!! The recoil doesn't take them off.

You will get different opinions on this but the truth is that even though a 22 round would be better than a knife or baseball bat it really does not have much stopping power at all. I have found that the best gun for a small and weaker person is the 380 Glock 42. It is not big or bulky and does not have hardly any recoil. With hollow point bullets it has fairly good stopping power and is easily concealed but still light weight. Renting one before you buy is a good idea.

Are you serious? Are you serious? An XD-S .45 for a new female shooter? I have one. My wife shot it once. Exactly once. She couldn't rack it, and was totally unprepared for the recoil of it. After a hundred rounds, I'm ready to end the range session myself.
A lightweight .38 special as well? They have recoil. My wife had to pick a revolver as she cannot rack a slide. She didn't like the SP-101 3 incher, because it was too heavy and the trigger pull was impossible for her. She decided on a Taurus 85 ultralite that...recoils! I had to put Hogue grips on it so she had a place to put her pinkie for grip. I had to cycle the trigger safely a few thousand times to lighten and smooth the trigger. Standard pressure .38 special still has her flinching from the recoil. A mouse gun .380 that you showed will also have...recoil!
At the very least, if a lady wants an XD-S have her try the 9mm and then .45. Let the ladies talk with other ladies who carry about hardware. We guys don't have a clue how a lady will like a man's choice for her. Probably not at all.
Ladies' days at ranges and trying different sidearms are the only way to satisfy what a lady may like, and feel comfortable with.
I'm betting most ladies would prefer a larger frame 9mm to use as a carry gun, if they have the concealed part figured-out. My wife loves my XDm 9mm 4.5 of mine, and it sports an X5L laser, light combo. It is on the heavy side, but I carry it, believe it or not, IWB. Recoil is light.
Guys, let the ladies decide after trying many concealed sidearms...

Also, have a woman show her how to rack a slide. I advise women to use their arm strength to push the frame of the pistol forward rather than using their hands to pull the slide back. I bet she can actually do it, most women can.

The main problem with revolvers is not only the very long pull but also and more importantly the pounds of the double action pull. It is usually between 12 and 14 lbs which is a huge problem for many, many women. Revolvers are not good cc guns for women.

Pretty good video, but there is no ONE choice for anybody. If a friend of mine, male or female with no firearms experience wants to buy a handgun, I will take them out to the range, get them started, with an old .22 target pistol open sights, get their mechanics squared away, and then have them try different handguns. After the .22 I go to a .357 revolver...with light .38 Special loads, single action first, then double action. Then a 9mm (Usually a Glock 17). After that I ask whether they preferred the revolver or the auto. Based on that, I try to find a gun they are comfortable with. I have seen too many men foist a snub nosed .38 on their significant others. That is an experts gun, I have one, and they are really difficult to shoot well. Better to get them used to hitting things with a .22 target pistol, boost their confidence, get them to enjoy shooting, and let them decide what they like. Shooting a handgun does not take a lot of physical strength. It requires you line up the sights, and avoid jerking when you pull the trigger, women can do that just fine. I watched my daughter shoot 5 bowling pins with 6 shots from a Desert Eagle .50 AE. Then clear the gun. She had to put it on the bench to get leverage, but she cleared it just fine. Once a person understands the manual of arms of the gun, and can exercise it, including field stripping it, and cleaning it, and getting trigger control down, they just need to practice.

I dont know why people are so offended by how they made a video for women, yes, some women will want to conceal carry just like most men do. But I for one know that I dress differently than most men a, and I have a difficult time with certain guns being "blocky" and not fitting well in my hand etc. Women will also sometimes use concealed carry purses, dont know many men that will etc. Women and men are a bit different, and I think different guns (overall) will be better for everyday use for women than for men. They are not saying all women have to choose these guns, just that they think these guns would be good for a lot of women.

he says the WORST guns for ladies are:
    1) 380, 40 or 45 calibers 2)Single-Action autos, 3) shotguns,
    4) Tiny guns with little sights, half grips, small slides
    5) Tiny revolvers with high recoil, low round count, hard
to reload, hard to learn trigger.
