Stargazer - How to Help a Chick With Wry or Crooked Neck
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 сер 2024
- It happens. A chick that can't hold its neck up and falls backwards and maybe even walks backwards. The good news it can often be treated and it's easy to do. We had a "stargazer" in our last hatch. See what we did and what happened.

Thank you! This helped my chick. It wasn’t a stargazer. The baby is doing fantastic now. Poor thing had wry neck and splayed leg
I’m so glad your chick is doing better! Thanks for the comment!
since you just saved this chicks life I'm gonna subscribe
Looks exactly like what happened to my hatchling yesterday. Thanks for posting!
How is your chick doing?
This was SOOOOOO helpful. We had a chick hatch with this stargazer syndrome and curled feet. It couldn't walk or stand and its head was nearly completely backwards, I thought it had something broken inside until I saw your video. All he did was lie on his back with his head twisted to look at his feet the first night and then yesterday I started giving him sugar in the water I was feeding him with the eye dropper and after I saw your video I went searching for the Nutri-Drench. Unfortunately we don't seem to have it here and I went looking for Save-a-chick also with no luck. I came across someone else's video mentioning adding salt (not table salt) and apple cider vinegar to sugar water and that is what I did. Until I saw your video I didn't even know this was a "thing" and I gave him this last night with some food mashed up in this formula as well and today he was standing and his head is in the proper position and his toes have nearly fully uncurled. I think he just might make it, I am so happy. He is even eating and drinking on his own now. I am very happy I found your video or I may have given up on him.
I’m so glad your chick is improving and the video was helpful! I remember thinking the same thing the first time I had a chick with this. Thanks for the great story and encouragement.
Thank you for posting! It was so helpful to see a video of how to give a baby Nutridrench!
I’m glad it was helpful!!
Thank you very much my serama was born like this on Tuesday I didn't know what to do I looked on UA-cam and I came across your video after work I ran to the pet products store and looked for that antibiotic last night I gave it to him to drink and what was my surprise that When I woke up today, Wednesday, and I was already standing with the other three, thank you very much for uploading this information and helping to save my baby Serama.
That’s great to hear! So glad your Serama is ok!
What a great recovery. Lucky chick. Thank you for sharing this information.
It’s pretty neat how quickly that can work! We lost chicks to this before I learned what it was, so hopefully it helps someone. 😀
This was helpful. I wish I had found this video 2 days ago but I will try it anyway and hope for the best.
thats interesting , crazy at how quick that helped him ... nice job at helping the little guy
It is crazy how quickly it works! He had a rough start and it’s good to see him doing well now. Thanks, Big-D!
so cute and pitiful... you're very kind lady awesome~
That's awesome. Now I know what to do if I run into that this spring. Thanks for the tips.
Yes, it’s great info to know! It looks so bad but can be an easy fix for the chick. Thanks for watching.
OOH glad to see it well.. and normal.. ooh you did it.. thanks for saving it.. this is the first time i have seen such ..
It happens sometimes and I had another one ( it as bad) come in my shipped chicks. Thanks for watching!!
What is tha name of medicine
nice, he seems all better now, good job
He seems fine! Thanks, Joey!
thanks
Thank you for saving my bird
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP, my chick cannot sleep because of it's neck hanging and waking him up every couple of seconds, I am desperate please help me, how do I help the chick?
I just saw this is an actual thing and not a deformity. I have a chick that’s already a week old and it eats and drinks fine. It’s actually fixing itself a little bit. It runs around and eats and drinks fine. My question is can I give it some if this and will it fix it or am I too late? Again it eats and drinks fine.
That’s great that it’s doing good! You can try- it certainly won’t hurt it. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I think it depends on the cause. I’d love to hear if it fixed it!
Hi
Could you please write to me what you give him for treatment, I have ostrich chick has same problem.
PLEASE ASAP
It’s Nutra-Drench, but I’m not sure that works with ostriches.
I’ve never come across this. Good to know 👍
We used to lose them sometimes before we knew the problem. It does happen every now and then.
This is pretty much exactly what is happening with my chick, except yours has a little white on it lol
Couple hours old, black chick, stargazing just as bad if not a little worse than yours, falling over backwards, etc. Hopefully I get the same results you did. He is separated in his own brooder with a few drops of diluted nutridrench in him and a timer set. Thanks so much for your video, hoping for the best
How is it doing?
Hey so I just had a chick born like that and I was wondering where did you get that bottle.
The bottle of Nutra-drench? It got it at TSC but it can he purchases at many farm stores or online.
Hi I was wondering if that’s normal ?When I found him about 2 days ago all alone he was fine and he could walk and eat & drink but today when I woke up I went to check up on him and he appeared with the stargazer neck or wryneck I’m really worried he does still eat and drink & also I immediately bought polyvisol supposedly helps, but I was wondering did the chick made it thorough 🥺
I really want the chick to make it🥺
It seems about 50/50. If they improve with treatment in a day or two, there is a good chance.
Hey I have a white Brested water hen, it's neck has got swollen what should I do... It's struggling
I’m not sure. I hope everything went ok for your hen.
This is really good advice. B vitamins almost always solve this issue.
It’s pretty amazing how well it takes care of it! Do you see it sometimes in your birds?
How do you do this if you’re at work and don’t have the option to do care 24/7?
Just do what you can. Before you leave and then every few hours when you are home.
What's the dose? And how many time per day? Thank you
I put a small squirt and swirl water to make it a weak tea color. Then I give the chick however many drops it will drink every few hours or about 3 times a day. Whatever works with my schedule and memory. 😉
Myn isn't a hatchling is it the same problem?
It could be. Try to Google causes for adult chickens and go ahead and try Nutri-Drench in the meantime.
our egg are hatching today. and one is peeping in the egg any tips or concerns
Nope! No concerns! They peep a lot while hatching. They peep in the egg before they “pip” through the shell- and that let’s you know they’re getting ready. I’d encourage you to be patient, because it can be 12 or more hours from when they first poke that first hole in the shell (pip) to starting to hatch any further. Trying to help them is often a death sentence for the chick. Keep us posted!!! How exciting!!!
I can't purchase this medicine, my parents will not allow me. Can you suggest any home remedies.plz
I’m sorry, but not really. I are heard of some people feeding egg yolk?
we had this happen. chick was stargazing. treated it and within 36 hours its neck was bent down the other way and still walking backwards. like it was normal for maybe 8 hours and then just went the other way. any clue?
I’m sorry to hear that. Keep treating and maybe the chick will get better. Sometimes they don’t. 🙁
I have a full adult chicken that has this problem do you know how to cure it or do you cure it the same way that you do a chick
Hopefully! Try and see if it helps. It may be something else though.
Hi may I know the medicine name I have a couple of chicks like this
Nutra-drench. I hope it helps! 😊
Hi my chick is having a kind of neck issue and can't stand and lying on one side only. Will this medicine help. Please advise....
It’s helped some for me. Not all of them, but some.
We have a chick right now that has this and we have been treating it but now he is unable to even move what would you recomend
I’m sorry to hear that. Does he seem unconscious or paralyzed? How have you been treating the chick? Does he have adequate heat with a lamp or are you using a heat plate?
@@ChickenHues we were treating it with a medicated solution my cousin uses on her chicks but it sadly died just a couple minutes ago. But will definitely be watching your channel seems to have great information thanks for your help
My week old chick has this as well and I've been giving her the vitamins but it doesn't seem to be working! It's been 4 days, what am I doing wrong? I'm worried for her and I'm scared I'm stressing her further.
It doesn’t always work. Sometimes they’re so bad that it can’t be corrected. I’m sorry.
@@ChickenHues ok ok but she's finally eating so this could be a sign I hope! I'll keep giving her treatment up until she dies I won't give up on her as long as she doesn't give up! Thanks for your honest opinion tho, I'll keep this in mind. Much love!
@@AllenBreadly any luck?
Name of that drops u feeded
Nutra-drench. You can get it at most farm stores or online.
Any more advice if nutri-deence is not available
I have heard something about baby vitamins. Research that first because it seems that it is a certain kind, though. Sorry to not be of much help.
Does this also work with turkeys?
I’m not sure but I’d give it a try if I had a turkey.
Plz tell me the medicine name
Nutra-drench!
Mam which drops ?
It’s called Nutra-drench.
name of medicine pls
Nutra-drench
Medicine name madam
Nutra-Drench or Poultry Cell.
If chicks are being born with a deficiency does that not indicate that the mother has a poor diet? luckily my chicks are in tip top condition, their diet is as varied as is humanly possible as I'm aiming for the correct nutrition rather than a huge volume to get them as fat as possible... My quail are pets so I'm not concerned with their weight and the number of eggs they lay...although I do want eggs 300 a year seems extremely excessive for such a small animal.
It may indicate nutritional issues in the parents. It may also be a problem during incubation. It sounds like you have an excellent plan going!
I had trouble hearing the audio for instructions. All I can't really hear was loud chick peeping
I’m sorry you had trouble hearing it. Dilute some Nutri-Drench to a tea color. Every few hours use an eye dropper and try to get the chick to drink it. Be careful not to squirt it down it’s throat or it can aspirate the liquid. I hope this helps.
when I first saw him,, I though he was a goner, but he looks normal now.
They usually do die if nothing is done. It’s weird how well that works.
I would call him cured 👍
He seems pretty normal now, doesn’t he? Thanks for stopping by, Farmall!
What was that thing you got for the chick
Nutra-Drench. 😊
Thanks, I had 3 hatch like this 2 have died.
I’m sorry.
My chick has it bad should I make a neck brace
No. Try what’s in the video and that should help.
